    The box wedge is one of the most misunderstood pieces of kit. People tend to think you can push any timber, no matter how knotty, and it will cut the timber perfectly, reality is it doesn’t. Yes it will break it up, but you get a lot of waste. The box wedge is intended for clean timber, and a rapid throughput of timber. It is a production machine. We have been trying over here for the best wedge for knotty timber, and have found the four way is best. Because you can control the split better, something commented on in this video. But if you have clean timber greater than say 12” in diameter, there is no faster way of splitting, with minimal effort.

    Just watched this again, and that was a great demonstration of the box-wedge on that splitter, Andrew.
    Now, the ultimate, most useful, demonstration needed on those high-flow splitters is to temporarily remove the flow restrictor from the log lift and see how far you can catapult a log. You need to be holding a beer when you do it, just for aesthetic effect. :)

      I was thinking of a name for the new model that you have proposed. Because it cycles continuously, what about calling it a super cycler? If you had a machine to load it, the labor to operate it would be close to nothing.
      For a generic name, universal splitter, would be better than kindling machine.

    The box wedge is part of the versatility that make the Eastonmades great. On my 12-22 set up, I use it for oversized fairly straight grained wood, which is probably 20% of what I split. I’ve found the tall 4 way is the ticket for 60% of the wood I split and the 6 way fits that remaining perfect size wood. I’d recommend all 3 wedges when buying a splitter. I got my 12-22 in February and have put 50-60+ full cord threw it! They are awesome machines. Hey do you have those fancy Eastonmade hats available? -Steven

      What happens when
      you put two or three or four
      (smaller) logs on the box wedge
      at one time? Perhaps you have
      never tried it. I suppose the first bite would be smaller in some cases. In other cases I suppose the log would move out of place. The output and versatility of the box wedge may be increased.

That 24D with that 7-way box is a real cocker it really does a great job. I am not a wood guy but in my younger years I had many friends that were mostly for heating their homes we would all get together on weekends to help cut and split firewood so I did have a little experience working around firewood only there were no splitters available to us back in those days two would cut two would split with a mall. So I was just wondering about something. I happen to notice there were no or I didn't see any grease fittings on any of your splitters is that by design? oops, I did see one video that showed the assembly where there was one area there was some kind of lubrication between the brass and plastic but maybe one on the lift would help some, But what do I know I'm just a computer guy from Boston lol

      24D is a diesel unit with 24 tons. The 22-28 is a gas unit with 37 tons. The 24d cycles twice as fast as the 22-28.

    Andrew, have you guys thought about rotating the Axis engine 90 to direct the cooling air away from the oil tank and operator? Down hear in Georgia, the hot air coming off the engine is brutal. Splitter is great, but I’m getting roasted.

    • @EastonmadeWoodSplitters
      @EastonmadeWoodSplitters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only hard part with that is placing the hydraulic pump that much further from the engine and the engine being in an awkward spot. Might get away with turning it 90 degrees. Havent looked at it for a while. Appreciate the feedback

      @@EastonmadeWoodSplitters I don’t understand your comment regarding pump being “that far away from the engine and the engine being in an awkward spot”. My thought is to swivel the engine 90 degrees CCW where it is. This would direct the cooling air horizontally, towards the lift table end and away from the oil tank. This will also put the engine exhaust the farthest distance away from the operator as possible.

    Hello, Andrew, nice to see and hear You again. This is Your viewer from Europe exactly from Lithuania. I make and sell about 40 cords of firewood every year. Until now I did it only with a chainsaw and fiskars axes. But I want to go bigger, so because of Chris "In the woodyard" channel on TH-cam, I decided to buy an ULTRA wood splitter. Because my sister lives in the UK, she ordered one for me at "Logs and saws". I can't wait to get and try it. And my plans are to buy a dump trailer for firewood deliveries and transporting ULTRA. The problem is I couldn't find dimensions of Ultra, so, I don't know how big my trailer should be to fit it there. Could You tell it for me, I'd be very thankful..? The other questions is how I could get those nice Eastonmade caps for summer and for winter..? I would really like to wear them by doing firewood. I like your machines and this channel. Good luck for You. Best regards from Lithuania.
