The "Monica can hold her own" comment was of a broader context about how she was not intimidated by Gilfoyle and could push back when need be; it was not about the equality of her coding contribution on the overnight project.
Gilfoyle seems to respect that in Monica, like when he tells her "I like you" and then immediately feels awkward. Knowing Gilfoyle, that is probably the highest honor of respect he ever bestowed on anyone. Words such as "like" usually only fit in Guilfoyle's vocabulary as terms of derision for what Facebook users do when they see something that makes them happy.
He knew she wouldn't put up with his BS but he also knew that he didn't have to constantly worry about hurting her feelings. She knew he was a really good coder and out the misfit band of coders, he was the least immature. There was a mutual respect. They were a good work couple.

His character's dialogues are so brilliantly written. He's always so literate coming up with the most complex insults, but whenever he opens up to someone he's at loss for words (e.g. "I like you...not in that way").

And in the world of programmers, you have a much higher likelihood of encountering like-minded people. It's the fact that he doesn't seem to deal well with conversational nuance, which he'd regard as overexplaining. For him, the purpose of speaking is to communicate what you mean as quickly and efficiently as possible. So simply stating "I like you" shouldn't communicate anymore than the simple, platonic meaning. The underlying romantic nuance in such a simple phrase is, to him, an obstacle getting in the way of clear communication.

I can't honestly say I ever thought about the "authoritarianism" part of it (though I see what he's saying), but I have NEVER gotten the appeal of parades. Even when I was a little kid.
