Californian here. Completely agree about hotels. I have driven PCH too many times to count between SF and Santa Barbara, Drive SOUTH because crossing the road for turnouts is dangerous and you might kill a motorcyclist. The views are better and its just more adrenalin fun. Drive North if you have a fear of heights. Drive early spring or fall and make sure to check if it's open. Landslides often shut down the most beautiful section and closures can last a year or more after a stormy winter. Please don't stop for a beer, wine or weed, the road is dangerous enough as is. Enjoy the ride.....
