  • Hello everyone !
    To everyone who has subscribed to this channel, I want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU ! The channel has just recently surpassed 500 subscribers!!
    Ok, back to business...
    Now that the engine has a bigger intake, bigger turbo, we have to give it a way to expel all that additional exhaust! Time to get an upgrade on the exhaust.
    On the docket for today is the installation of a DP/FP combo from RV6 and a cat-back kit from Magnaflow (links below)
    I'm particularly proud of myself for making this episode - all this talk about gases and exhaust and I only dropped ONE fart joke !!
    Hope you all enjoy and as always, thank you for watching!

    These install videos are so killer!! Love your professionalism, and your edits are very fun to watch and are so informative 🙏. Keep up the great work, you're setting the bar very high for DIY automotive content, and you deserve way more subs and views 🔥. I wish I came across your channel sooner, it's channels like yours that have inspired and motivated me to create my own content and help the car community 🙏.

    Hey Richard,
    I finally got around to watching a few of your videos. I checked your very first one and finished with this one. I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about with regards to all of the work you’re doing with these vehicles but what I will say is that the production value of your videos has improved leaps and bounds and is night and day from where you started to where you are today. I think that if you keep this up, your channel will be going places. Next time we see each other let’s talk shop! (TH-cam videos, not cars). Have a good one!

    FYI - V Clamps should only be torqued to 7 ft lb per Magnaflow tech support. Found out the hard way after breaking the bolt on one clamp. Magnaflow was nice enough to send a new one though, great customer service!

      I got lucky on 3 out of the 4 - thankfully the new turbo came with fresh studs. Still had to replace the one on the OEM turbo ☹

    You have some great vids man - Thanks! I'm also contemplating on RV6's catted FP/DP combo for my Si. Either that or 27Won's so I can keep the theme going with my 27Won CAI 😅

      I ended up tearing the threads off of one of the studs taking off the OEM exhaust. Be prepared to replace them just in case. Hope it all comes apart for you.

    Rick's Garage Can you please make drive by videos on exhaust? Or just review on exhaust itself.

    Did you place an O2 sensor spacer on that RV6 DP? Also, did it help with no CEL? or did you flash it to not show?

    • @RicksGarage
      @RicksGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent question - The RV6 DP came with a 90 degree diverter/spacer. No CEL, no need to tune it out

  • @mikem9870
    @mikem9870 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why aren't people hollowing the stock cat out and disabling the sensor on the tunner?

    • @RicksGarage
      @RicksGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A definite option for a catless exhaust but vehicle "safety" enforcement in Vancouver can border on Orwellian proportions. A catted option will hopefully ensure less attention from the police.

      I was told by a friend who has a 10th gen Si and is also a state certified inspector that Ktuner disables the O2 system and an inspector can tell the O2 system is not working. She extended her O2 sensor cable and plugged the O2 sensor directly into her PRL cat. I don't know what they do in other states and countries.

    Great video!
    May I ask something that bothers me. I am considering buying DP/FP combo from 27won or PRL. The point that bothers me is the diameter of the pipes - 27won will be 2.5" in the end and PRL is 3" on its end.
    Is it normal/OK that 2.5/3" will run into the bottle neck of 2" stock exhaust? (Not planning to change it for now)

    • @RicksGarage
      @RicksGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your excellent question! IMHO, an exhaust diameter change of 0.5" or less will make a difference, but a negligible one. The exhaust will behave most closely to the smallest section. You will encounter a power loss due to the restriction of the stock exhaust, but if you're planning on upgrading the rest of the exhaust later, it'll be a short term issue.

    • @ProzentoLSD
      @ProzentoLSD 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RicksGarage Thanks for the reply!
      I am not planning to pass 250HP on my FK7 so basically I think 2" stock will be enough.
      So you say that this bottle neck of 2.5/3" into 2" won't cause any problems but only will apply some restrictions? And if I may ask what combo you think is better...full 3" DP/FP to stock or 3.125->2.5" to stock?

    • @RicksGarage
      @RicksGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProzentoLSD I think the restriction in the exhaust will cause a "problem" of power loss. Unfortunately I wasn't able to dyno my FC1 with both exhausts, so I cant tell you how much of a loss/gain there is between stock and aftermarket, so it may be a small power loss. Regarding tubing diameter, if you're planning on keeping the catback stock, I dont think it matters too much if you drop from 3" to 2" or step down from 3" to 2.5" to 2". A restriction is a restriction. However, I think a smoother transition will flow better as the exhaust is being funneled as opposed to hitting a wall at the flange where the size changes. Hope that helps!

    Is there a jack point near the real axle? I just bought the same exhaust for my '18 SI. When I change the tires I jack up the back by using the side jacking points one at a time but I'd rather lift the whole back end at once for the exhaust install as I will be lifting it higher. Thanks
