I love Carmen Basilio - all action all the time - all heart all the time. He delivered the fights of the year vs Tony DiMarco and then two vs. Sugar Ray and won 2 of the 3 and would have won all 3 if it wasn't for an horrible eye !

Bert Sugar is not without racial bias because his ratings play to the great white hope syndrome: rates Marciano in the top ten heavy weights ( ridiculous),said racist statements about Joe Louis were acceptable because it was " normal " for those times. He should have condemned that racism. No way Marciano could have defeated Norton, Holmes,
Shavers.Marciano had hard time with well over the hill Walcott, Charles,Moore, and retired rather than fight Patterson.

I agree. he fought no greats in their prime and would not have beaten the likes of Frazier, Ali, Norton, or Foreman. He did however beat all he faced in his time and could not have done more, but top ten, I do not think so!

I'm tired of ppl using the old man excuse ,it's racist period .yea black ppl are racist too. But aside from racism look those great fighters ,lewis ,Walcott ,Charles, would have fought if you remove Marciano, they would of still fought and know body would be talking about it ,but because it was a lil white guy ,their is a problem ,ah,finished with it

While Shavers may be the hardest puncher in hw history, Quarry stopped him in one round. He also got ko'd by Ron Stander.

Are you kidding? Marciano walks right thru "chinny" Ken Norton! Holmes was a sucker for a right hand...Marciano had one of the best right hands of all time! Ask Renaldo Snipes...

@@drobson8004 thank you sir .see that's what I'm saying quarry takes out the hardest luncher In heavyweight history ,yea lil white Jerry quarry .so don't give me that Marciano fought over the hill men ,when anyone of those men were capable of turning out his lights .the best man one plain and simple .would Marciano have faired against Frazier,Norton ...I'm not speculating ,it's wrong too.well never know period,so just go on speculating ...just like they are about Jordan and LeBron ,see they'll always be a comparison of the current greatest against past greats ,always has always will I think is fair to say
