    The only issue when they put the switchblade so close to the individuals face or other body parts they can't properly calculate how the blade will come out if there to close it may cut the individual or stop the blade from fully opening basically defeating the purpose of the knifes threatening history in general

    What the hell is with the way everyone holds these knives....They hold it in the way that would give you the least amount of grip, right on the end of the handle.

    • @ShinKyuubi
      @ShinKyuubi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it's all about the shock value of the knife coming out and keeping their hand outta the way. A good few of these switchblades I'm seeing in the movies are ones that open from the side so you gotta keep your fingers outta the way so the blade can come out, unlike out the front/top switchblades. Back when I was a kid they had switchblade combs. They had a push button and flipped open out the side just like most of the switchblades here, if you hold it with a full handed grip it ain't gonna come out cause your fingers are keeping it from actually flipping out so you have to hold it in a way that lets it come out then you switch your grip to a more conventional grip whether it be a hammer grip or ice pick.

    Neat knives these are once opened they are put to shame by many razor sharp kitchen knives, or any fixed blade fighting knife, and reliability was always an issue with these. Not to mention the cheap quality blades that couldn't hold an edge. But still,,, the "joe cool" image is huge. "SNAP"..

    As much as I like cinema/ film, unfortunately these knives in film is the reasoning why automatic knives particular Italian style automatic knives (stilettos/ “switchblades”) are “weapons” when they’re not, have stigma, and are associated with criminals and are Illegal to carry in half of US states. However majority of US states it’s legal to carry and almost in all 50 states it’s legal to own. But not carry. As a knife head and a knife enthusiast for many years I can tell you these knives weren’t made as weapons when they first came out hundreds of years ago. They were pocket jewelry, and just handmade luxury luxurious pocket knives used for everyday stuff from cutting things (utility), cheese or any cutting work (what knives & pocket knives are REALLY for) and collectors pieces. They were going out fancy pocket-knives that were like the Cadillac/Rolls-Royce of knives if you read the history about autos, but particularly in this regard - Italian style autos.
