I just had this talk with my buddy the other night. His wife bought a stilleto, and then returned it because she thought it was illegal. Was happy to educate them about the legality of switchblades in our state. No restrictions whatsoever, carry whatever you want. She bought the knife again, and I sold them one of my OTFs the same night. They were geeking out over my knife collection over dinner, I brought out a ton of stuff for them to check out. I think I might have even got them into the hobby. Time will tell!
A switchblade is whatever the cop you run into says it is.
I love this!
Mr. Doug is a fantastic human.
I loved the history about the knife laws and who it was targeting (I knew some of it, but didn't know all of it). I am going to do some research and explore about this.
Keep it George and the filming team. This was great.
Me and my buddies have been talking about knife legality literally all day. I feel like Blade HQ is psychic
Excellent video. Knives are fun to collect, but they are also essential and life-saving tools. Doug Ritter and others who are working diligently to repeal illogical (and yes, racist) knife bans are doing important and necessary work to protect our rights.
Thanks for what you do. I sure hope Minnesota to see future success in Minnesota.
In Tennessee you can carry any knife open or concealed. Just no knuckle dusters.
Yup. Just don’t tell people that they’ll start moving here and we already have a cali infestation. I have a deep resentment for them.
Educaate me please I have heard the term knuckle duster but in my 58 years on this planet do not know what that is
Brass knuckles maybe?
Brass Knuckles, Dummy!
I'm Telling You Mother!! 😮😮@@looseballs1966
@@looseballs1966During WWI,. The US trench knife issued had brass knuckles integrated into the handle. Some also had spikes on each knuckle as well as the pommel.
im enjoying these types of videos yall are doing... thank u
"Are switchblades legal" - every person i know who doesnt know anything about knives
LMAO! Right!
So we can have switchblades in our possession, we just can’t carry them on our person. Cool. I always leave my wallet at home too
@chuni2753 Instead of holding your prejudiced attitude toward people who are lay knife users and are asking questions, it would be more productive to answer their questions or point them towards resources instead of posting a comment making fun of their ignorance, which only serves to give people a negative perception of that the knife enthusiast community are unreceptive and condescending pricks towards people who may benefit from our understanding of knife laws.
And anyone that knows anything about knives knows there is no reason for them to be illegal. Almost any folding knife opens with one hand. Well except slip joints, I haven’t figured out how to do that yet.
So you expect someone who doesn't know anything about knives to know something about knives?
I love the Kershaw Barlow knife , such a nice traditional/modern piece of steel
Doug is the greatest hero of the knife community.
Is Civivi Elementum 2 a gravity knife since u can hold the button and let the knife deploy with gravity?
"The Right of The People to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed" Arms, not Firearms. so knifes swords and other weapons should ALL be protected by the Second Amendment just like guns
Made respect to blade hq for being a supporter of the BIPOC communities and pulling the veil off the origin of knife laws
Save your little made up pet names for minorities they aren't your little puppy dogs. Weirdo
Save your little racist pet names
😂😂😂😂
If a person of color is using the knife, there will always be a made up reason the knife is illegal. Until recently my state prohibited several types of blade shapes without actually defining those shapes anywhere in law so that it could be selectively enforced. In NYC, even a Victorinox Tinker is a "gravity knife" because it's affected by gravity.
Thanks Doug!
This is why I love living in a state with no knife laws
What was that gravity blade he was showing???
Yes in Texas and a few other States
I'd really like a Ritter hogue rsk, basically griptilian with better grind and automatic
NH is the most knife friendly state, you can sport a Katana and wakazashi walking down the street, no problem
Idaho is even better.
I get asked if my knife is legal all the time. Or I’ll get the “aren’t switchblades illegal”
What about keister knives? These are knives you can easily conceal up you butt. Are these legal?
A Knife story-
Today, I stopped for Gas in Capital Hill, Downtown Seattle area.
As I was gassing up, I spotted a young lady wearing a big fixed blade, in a nylon sheath on her belt.
I said hello in a friendly way and inquired about her knife.
Hey cool knife, is that a Bowie?
She stopped and smiled, she said sheepishly, It’s a big kitchen knife, and motioned as if to pull it out and show me.
I said No no no, you keep that thing down there.
Then I said, well it’s a nice looking knife but I have some bad news..
Oh she said?
Yes, although your instincts are correct, you do have a right to carry this according to the Supreme Court, and the state of Washington, and King County, but you do not have that right according to Seattle..
Wow, that’s a bunch of B****SH*T ! She said.
I said yes it is, you can go to jail for a year just for carrying that and not bothering anyone.
What? She said and began to hide it under her hoodie..
I said nope can’t do that either, that’s a concealed weapon, big no no, you need permission from the state to conceal arms.
WFT!
Yes, you should probably remove that and put it in your grocery bag until you get home, but even THAT is illegal.
Wow.. she said.
Yes, you can only have an exposed knife, that folds, and is less than 3.5 inches long
I can’t believe it, she says, that’s probably why everyone was staring at me so weird…
I said,
Imagine If I told you that women have a right to vote, but not in Seattle
Or you have a right to be a Buddhist, but not in Seattle etc etc..
That’s just bizarre she said.
She said she had to go.
I said be careful out there…
Knife rights are human rights
With 5 Minutes of Practice, you can open a Standard Folder faster than an Auto. The Knife World doesn’t have to Worry about UK Knife Laws (Ban on all but Slip Joints) Until they Ban Firearms… The Government always has to be Banning Something “It’s the Worst”, “Think of the Children”.
Uhhhh Duhhhh, YESSS......Just Don't Get Caught😬
Yes! lol
I live in North Carolina where you can have a switchblade knife on your own property but once you leave your property you can be put in prison for 2 years. It makes walking to the mailbox an adventure. Please somebody please change this law so I don’t have to go out and get a pistol or assault rifle.😊
Just do what you want. Just don't kill anyone. Don't be such a SHEEP!
Depends on where you're at. However, most states consider them a deadly weapon by nature. So any state that doesn't have constitutional carry laws you would be required to get a concealed carry license or "open carry" the knife. This isn't legal advice but unless you've done something wrong that will get you searched by police who's gonna know?
just randomly clicked on this video and im glad that i did
Firearm laws enters chat.
Switchblades and gravity knives are legal in my state. Then I found out that they are not legal in my county. How stupid is that? I found this out after I got my Reate Exo M. So bummed.
I asked the sheriffs department.
ARE BALISONGS LEGAL TO CARRY IN NY STATE?
move to wisconsin anything goes here
Mr. Doug is a goddamn american hero!! 😢🫡🫡
Everything is legal in Texas
go to breakfast with ka-bar on the hip
They are legal in Indiana.
Odd camera angles are back. Not your best work. Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.
They are in the great state of Texas. 🇺🇸
NO it is not our responsibility as law abiding citizens to follow uncostitutional so called laws but to defy them and remove from office those who would go against constitutional and God given rights, as far as I see it (and how it should be seen) is that knives of any kind are no different than guns of any kind where it is provisioned within the constitution we as American citizens have the right to keep and bear those arms period and shall NOT be infringed PERIOD.
App downloaded.
Everything in NY gets ruined by a single city not being able to handle any sort of sense of public decency and responsibility.
Legal in my state as long as you don't take it off your property. Illegal in public
The police will take a nice otf or another nice auto. I live in Missouri, its kool if i pack my glock 20 around but can't carry an auto knife 😂
Knife laws are cringe
Nah fr
We never see Ballistic knives because for the most part it’s not practical nor functional. For it to work properly it’s in essence a harpoon or similar concept and no longer a knife 🤷🏻♂️

They are not full tang.
What the F auto gearbox on car not illegal?
To each his own, I'm a knife enthusiast to the core...but, I never liked OTF's, or Stilleto type switch blades...old fashioned preferences on my part I guess. Even these newer blade grinds and shapes , ( tantos, compound grinds, fancy , exotic blades , etc) just don't grab my attention.
That's why I'm eventually getting a Buck 112 automatic.
Whether the knife opens by button or manually doesn't change what it is! Italian stilletto or OTF? Give me a break! 🤣👎
@johnruiz6743 - that's why it's a "PERSONAL preference". Some dudes refuse to buy premium steel, others can't live without it. Who knows why our brains do this ?
🙄
I don't think balisong origins are up for debate. They were originally French, where it was brought to other countries like the Phillipines, and Benchmade (previously Pacific Cutlery) brought them up to modern USA standards in the 80s. Now there are a myriad of production, semi-production, and custom makers who have brought them 2 steps forward again with even more iterative improvements. Now there are a ton of perfectly machined, well balanced flippers with all of the aesthetic, customization, and function that you'd expect from all of the high end folders that the non-balisong people would appreciate but are otherwise unaware of because of how the balisong niche is bifurcated.
"Are switchblades legal?".....not in UK or Germany. You will go to jail with one of them ;) Even with a one hand opener which locks.
"Are switchblades legal?" Who gives a cfuk? I sure don't.
Wow. DEI in a knife vid. Pathetic
QUIT the stupid side camera angle. You're not making a Movie!!
Stick to selling knives.
I'll carry whatever I want, and I always have. No matter what.
