I broad cast seeded Northwoods Whitetails screening last year in two plots. Grew to about thirteen feet. Best part It stood up all winter. Great seed combo.
I would’ve hit that with a 3 pt tiller and just skimmed the top to get all those clots down before using that seeder. While a disc is good for preparation it leaves a rough finish that often times seeders don’t like. Also I’ve drug a light gauge chain behind my seeders and seed drills just to make sure everything gets covered. Great video!
Good video. I planted the same thing for the 1st time this year. I did broadcast a triple fertilizer ahead of time. I also plan to hand broadcast some 46-0-0 once the plants get to a foot tall.
How do you think this equipment will hold up? The metal sounded thin when you hit it with your hand, and a lot of plastic for seed tubes that may not last long if stored in sunlight.
I was lucky enough to find a Tar River Saya 505. No idea why it was still at the dealer but I got one. It works quite well. I need to wait for a rain before I use it to make sure it can bite enough to do no-till. Had a few issues out of the gate but I got them straightened out. My brother's been using it to plant soy beans and corn with it.
A 2 point quick hitch like “Pats” should work fine. I use that for all my hookups rather than the three point fixed since I usually have to adjust the top link length anyway for each implement
I used a screen like this at about 5 feet wide a couple years ago. It was awesome up until late October when the leaves started yellowing. Suddenly you could see through it. After the first heavy snow fall it was mostly matted down. Last year I planted it about 20 feet deep. That fixed it so it worked until we got a lot of snow.
At the end of the day, based on your experience with this unit, would you recommend a hobby farmer on budget purchase this ? We plant 4 acres of sunflowers in Spring and Peas/Oats in the Fall. Total acres per year the machine would plant is probably 10ish. Do you think it is worth the money? Thanks for the review
When we used to prep new ground we would plow, disc while pulling a drag and then my all time favorite thing to do (Not really) pick up rocks and haul them to the edge of the field. Then obviously put seed down.
if you rubberbband sandwich bags to bottom of tubes then drive a set distance (say 100 ft) - then its just math from there - you will have a weight of seed for a square foot area at whatever setting you are on --- change setting and run again
Great Channel ! Hi Courtney, I just discovered your site and right off the bat I find it great. You videos are diversified, interesting, and full of accurate and useful information. My 19 years old son just purchased a JD 4066R for is snow removal operation (here in Québec , Canada). We'll be back on your channel regularly , that is for sure. By the way, do you speak french by any chance....? I was hinted on that in this video.... All the best to you and this endeavour !
Id like to see how well thos would work in a no-till scenario. Maybe put a row or two in that grass section next to your tilled section. If it has enough oompf to notill it, alot of people would choose that approach for planting food plots
Part of the reason you might have exposed seed is because of your seed bed prep. Here in eastern Canada, we use a disc as part of a 3 step process, never to break virgin ground. (Moldboard plow, disc, harrow). This gives you a lot softer seed bed, might be something for you to try in the future
I mentioned in the previous video that we wanted to till, but didn't realize the PTO shaft would be too long to fit our other tractor. I didn't have tools with me to cut it down, so we disced. My original plan was to till, gotta roll with it.
What is the quality? You seemed pretty happy with the seeder. I was just at RK today and saw they had one in stock very similary they wanted $3600. Great video!
I just came across this video. Since it's been a couple of years since you made it, I'm wondering how that Chinese seeder is holding up. Have you had any issues since the video was published? Broken parts, etc.?
Great vidya. I don't see a link to the seeder in the description nor can I find it in your Amazon store. I'm probably missing something. Can ya help a fella out? Thank you kindly.
The farmer down the road in central Georgia uses a larger rig, a drill, rather than a seeder. He does not plow or disc his land any more. But then, he uses GMO seed and roundup. It is strange to see corn growing with hardly a weed in sight. The neighbor we have raises bees. He has to drive way out because his hives would die off from the chemicals the local farmers use, from GMO pesticides bred into the corn to spraying the peach orchards. Yup, I am living in chemical land and sooner or later, it will get into our water supply. So far we have trace nitrates in the water well and a pH of 5.0, low soluble ions though. I think most of the things we grow are doing OK with the water but the strawberries hardly put out anything. I suspect the pH has something to do with it. Modern days in farm country, has its good points, and the few bad ones that could be better. Local farmers do not appreciate the eventual water they will be drinking that they contaminate yet, but in time, as in the ag areas of California, this stuff will accumulate, and they will literally drink what they sowed.
Hopefully he will improve notill drill is great. The chemical/gmo big four develop the majority of the world’s gmo seed and pesticide field trials year round in Hawai’i. Maui voted for independent environmental and health studies the companies sued to overturn the vote and other laws and avoid test. Monsanto (now Bayer) Dow-DuPont, Syngenta-ChemChina and BASF seem too big. The fines paid don’t actually pay for the water pollutions true costs. The notill drill and cover crop rotations like many organic farmers are doing would help the land the bees and all of our communities. Think many are catching on to the no till hopefully Courtney will sell some setups and have a video I’m going to ask.
@@JCWren peaches, yeah bees probably helpfull; corn is totally capable of pollinating by wind & gravity. Bees may feed on corn idk, but corn definitely does not need bees. Fruits, melons, legumes helped by bees.
Did you say that you were using a JD 3025?? How did it handle this unit. We have a kubota L2501 and what we have been finding is that class tractor cannot handle the weight of any no till drills….
Could you sell or does northern tool sell low cost notill drills for standard L weight tractors? The Landpride notill drill likes Grand L or similar or heavier tractors and is pricey. Avoiding ordering anything from that other company mentioned but Northern or a small retailer like yourself would be good to support. Is shipping still to 35 states or are you shipping across country now? Great videos 🤙
Glad you asked. It's a piece of junk. Just yesterday I was trying to seed plots with it and it's falling apart a year later. Chain won't stay on the gears, plastic drop tubes are cracking and falling apart, inconsistent seed depth and coverage. I would avoid it.
Fyi,you were correct using a cultipacker after planting. Most wisconsin farmers do. Because it captures the population of seed per inch per row required by seed company.
Yeah, planned to make a full circle video on that towards the end of the year...try to show how it looks at least through hunting season or into the winter. So far, so good. Impressive stuff!
well its made in china so better tight all that you see as it came long way to you and well people forget a bolt here and there to tight at factory, also this is grain drill not seeder.
