Field Tuff 2 Row Corn and Bean Planter for Tractor / Assembly & Use

  • I took the plunge and bought a Field Tuff 2 Row Corn and Bean Planter at @Tractor Supply Company for our gardens. First use and impression; this planter is the real deal and would be ideal for medium gardens to large hobby farms. It can plant more than corn or beans! If the seed is smooth and not too small, I think it will plant the seed. Spacing will be the only is you will have to deal with. I was extremely pleased to see all the grease fittings. I expect a long life out of this planter with good maintenance. I don't recommend leaving this implement outside. This is an indoor implement unless in use. I recommend only tilling 3" to 4" deep when preparing the soil. This means less work for you and your equipment, and the planter works better when the loose soil is only about a few inches deep. @TYM Tractors

    Thanks to your advice you gave around 3 years ago at a tractor trade show I bought a TYM 273 compact. I have had it for about 2 years now as I was trying to get back on my feet after a major spinal injury/operation. This tractor has become an integral part of my life and there is no way I could do what I do with out it. I love the machine because it has given me back a lot of independence that I lost prior!

    • @TonysTractorAdventure

      I am aware of the concept, but this is new ground. It has tons of organics in it: grass, sticks, and such. I will add sawdust from the sawmill this fall and turn it under. • @jasone679
    @jasone679 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You hit the nail on the head, you really don't know for sure for 10 to 14 days whether you got it set up right. Also, not exactly sure how the seed tubes are on that planter, but with the one and two row planters I've used it's important to not stop moving at the end of the row, just pick up the planter and keep rolling. This keeps any damp soil from plugging the drop tube if you would drift back any when stopping, oh I've had it happen and you don't realize it until you go to switch seed and find a seed tube all jambed up and you have no idea where it started.

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem with the drop tube this time. The ground was fairly dry. It really cooled off after we planed. I hope it comes up.

      It sounds like your soil is too wet. This is what I have found that works best. Till your soil. Allow one good rain to pack the soil down. Once the soil is reasonably dry, plant. The planter works better when the soil is not fluffy.

    You measured from the center of PTO shaft to outside of tire and then chose 32" as the measurement. The angle of the video may have been deceiving but it appeared that the planter was actually planting in or very near the rear tire imprint. Each size tractor will have different tire widths and one has to adjust to what they have and work around it. What was the measurement from seed shoot to seed shoot if one wanted to max out the toolbar, what could be the widest row based on the toolbar? There are many types of ground as it relates to how it compacts but was questioning if the planter would drop seed at a consistent depth if one tried to drop in the rear tractor track due to the lugs leaving an imprint that the plow might not take out.

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I planted it so I could plow one row at a time. It is the first time setting one than more planter at a time, so the row are wide. It should be easy to plow or spray.
