Good morning! I am a new tractor owner. I watched a bunch of your videos, gaining needed information prior to purchasing my new 2024 John Deere 2025R, with a loader, back blade and snow-blower (I live "out of town" in Duluth, MN and have a 1000' driveway!). Thank you for doing these You Tube Videos! They are VERY helpful!
Power curl down. Works same as the float but on the curl down function. Push the loader joystick to the right then push a little harder. It gives the curl down function the enough power to lift the tractors front end off the ground. I just learned this the other day watching another channel and I’ve had my BX for about 8 years and use it almost daily. I’m hopeful to have the 3 point float pin on my tractor. It’ll be nice to use with the brush hog and land rake. Thanks for sharing, I enjoy watching your channel.
One of the biggest hassles when hooking up a PTO shaft is getting the teeth to align properly. They almost never match up and manually rotating the implement to align the teeth can be difficult to nearly impossible. After owning my John Deere 2720 for at least 10 years, I just discovered this year, an incredibly easy way to do this. I don't know if this will work on all makes or models, but if you have both a rear and a mid PTO, whichever one is not engaged will turn freely. When I go to attach my rear PTO, I simply put the selector lever in the mid PTO setting. The rear PTO output shaft then turns completely freely and you can rotate it with two fingers to line up with the implement. Once everything is hooked up, simply put the selector back into the rear PTO position and you're ready to go. I never found any mention of this in the owner's manual and the dealer never pointed it out either.
I have a feature that's on my tractor that is rarely found on most today. A small hole in front grill that lets you insert a crank. This allows the user to hand crank the engine, in case of starter failure. I have had to use this feature for the last 8 years. The starter worked for 60 years prior to that, with few failures.
@@pws3rd170 I agree, it is insane. The tire now is completely bald,,, the texture looks like elephant skin (cracks),,, and the hardness of the hard is incredible, like a rock. There was a 20 year period when the tractor sit still. During that time all the tires lost air and went flat, except for that original rear tire. It can with stand a field of thorns without damage.. Very helpful tips. Thank you! That mirror and also storage in the loader tube are great ideas. Another one it seems people often don't know about on the smaller tractors is the cruise control. Handy for long mowing stretches to give your foot a break.
Regarding the 'extra' hole at the top of the loader post, in addition to the mirror mount, my neighbor mounted a bolt about 4" long to use for a handle to get on and off the tractor. Works great. Regarding the tube on the loader frame, I use mine for holding shovels, etc. with the use of a rubber strap. But the main thing I use the tube for is to temporarily stuff the hay net or string in when I'm feeding cows. It'll hold 4-5 until I get back to the house; then I pull them out and dispose of them.
That tube on the loader is for keeping the operator alert. This is how it works- wasps build huge nests in there. Then every time you use the tractor wasps swarm around as you move. Keeps the operator wide awake!
I enjoy your videos and your style of presenting them. Keep up the great work! As for the hollow crossbar in the front loader on my 4320, I stuff the handle of a shovel all the way in until the shove; head touches the arm. then I've drilled 2 small holes in each corner of the shovel to hook a small bungee cord to and wrap around the loader arm. The Shovel stays put until I need it.
I just recently discovered the bucket float position on my loader (Kubota BX series). I had accidentally engaged it before and thought something was wrong with my tractor, so I was careful not to push it too far. Then in a random TH-cam video I saw a guy describe that feature. It has transformed my use of the bucket. Spreading gravel on my driveway when I maintain it is so much easier now.
Good morning, I installed a BoltOnHooks Loader Grab Handle in the hole on the left side of my loader and it really helps me getting on and off the tractor. Enjoy your videos.
Yes. Bullet connectors. I didn't know about the float feature on the 3 point. I'll check it out. Thanks. One input from me. On my 1025R loader joystick, push all the way to the right and bucket dumps faster than normal. Great videos.
The float function on the 3 point is a handy thing to know and use when doing a lot of 3 point work. I keep mine in lock position when plowing but put it to float when running a rotary hoe, cultivator, or bale mover.
Some good tips but folks need to understand that the 3 point hitch doesn't provide down pressure. Virtually anything you pull with your 3 point is "floating" along on it's own weight. A light tiller or disc won't go into hard ground. You have to add weight to make them cut.
Correct which is one of the reasons I normally discourage discs on small tractors. Almost never enough weight to engage the ground. The bigger machines can handle heavy discs or weight added to the disc.
if you angle the tine blade it will pull in like a plow might have to fit a depth gauge to keep it from digging down. also the space inside the hub on the wheels lots of space evan space under drivers seat keep looking youll find lots of spaces
All good stuff here btw, both for the newbie & veterans alike... I run a 2003 JD990, I have some of the features mentioned here, but not all of them. Over the winter I completed my own version of a 3PH carryall/tool rack at 60" wide along with a headache rack using expanded metal ( steel ). I also incorporated a rec'r hitch. All of my tools, rakes, shovels, pruners, chains, chainsaw holsters, etc. now have a home. The " Big Tool Rack " currently on the market sells for approx. $1500.00, I built a larger version & far more versatile with folding sidewalls for less than half the cost @ $644.00... After ( 17 ) years running this tractor, the carryall build is by far the best investment I could have ever made for my tractor... Thanks for sharing this video, very informative! The carryall/tool rack was a game changer for me in so many ways... :~)
You told me about the float feature on the bucket, I asked because the stick kept getting stuck and I thought something was broke, LOL Thanks for the mirror Idea, I've been thinking about putting one on since I do a lot of road work with my 3046R.
On the subject of the loader lock-out switch ... On my Kubota BX2380 I remove the loader when I put the mower deck on to mow the lawn since it makes it so much easier for maneuverability. I engage the loader lock-out switch so that the loader joystick isn't accidentally moved to load up the hydraulic lines and fittings with pressure for the front end loader. Makes it easier to reconnect the lines since they will not be under pressure when the front end loader is reinstalled. Yeah I know, the joystick could be moved in all directions to relieve pressure on those lines but at least I'm not dead-heading those lines if the joystick is moved with the loader off. Great vid!
I have actually just started noticing the floating 3 point hitch secret. Now every time I am looking at tractors I am searching out these various hidden enhancements. Wow, thank you for pointing these out.
Oh. Something i just learned from reading my 650 manual, some tractors have little hooks on the outside of the 3pt draft arms to hold an extra set of pins on them.
Common rail diesels dont have glow plugs for those that dont know. But if its really cold a good block heating element is in order. Or an intake grid heater.
1 thing I have been planning to do (since 2013) is make the cupholder improvement that will keep my water or travel cup from bouncing out. I'll do that in my spare time.
On the FEL torque tube tool storage trick... On a JD 4720 with 400cx FEL I had, I used a pair of "Plastic Mechanical Test Plugs" to cap off the tube ends. They're available in various diameters at big box stores. Hopefully you can find one to fit. I think mine were for 4" tubes. The whole trick with these is that you inset them into the tube then tighten a large wing nut that expands a rubber ring which then seals the tube. Slicker than frog fur! 😉. One caveat... The torque tube will be completely sealed. That'll keep things in there dry, but it'll also keep moisture in (like storing a wet chain or tow strap, etc.).
I saw those when doing some research. Question: Any issues shoving the chain in or retrieving it? Or, does it tend to stay in place or at least accessible?
@@GoodWorksTractors I used a long chunk of 1/2" PVC pipe with a flat bar "hook" on one end. The pipe was just long enough to fit inside the torque tube with both plugs in place. That pipe was used to feed a chain into the torque tube as well as to pull the chain out. It was then just laid on top of the chain before closing up the torque tube with a plug. That said, the PVC "tray" you showed is probably a better solution.
On the top of my skid steer cage a made a light bar that goes around the outside edge out of 1" box tubing and mounted thin strobe lights to it. The advantage it also adds a place on top of cab to carry a couple chains and the don't fall off. I also throw my chainsaw up there when I'm trimming trees and it stays there
Those "float" function pins on the 3PH draft links are really more intended to allow lateral float between the two draft links vs easier parallel draft link up and down flotation (which is, as stated, already built into the 3PH mechanism). This lateral float lets the 3PH implement oscillate from side to side relative the tractor's rear axle, so implements with side to side skid shoes or gauge wheels follow ground contours better.
The three point float lever is about left to right float. With no power down a device will float but will be forced to be flat across the arms. Most useful IMO for mowers but I will use it will back blades and such on a driveway. Opposite is when you want to create a crown you need that locked so you can force a box blade off level.
yes awesome, just realised my branson also has this ability and from quickly looking at pics on my phone of tractor it has around 4 inches of float at this point, that will assist heaps with my verge flail mover on uneven ground
Great video. I was not aware my tractor may have a float feature. Thanks. That should be a big help. If buying a tractor, check for the rear implements float down feature. My older New Holland does not have it...unbelievable. That is tough on my bush hog or my tractor if I try to stop it in the middle. I would not have bought it had I known.
I have a John Deere 3520 tractor on which I think the left draft bar is bent. Is removing and replacing it a DIY project or dealer service only. If DIY, what are the steps needed to replace it? All looks rather straight forward except for the pin where the draft bar attaches to the tractor housing.
Bullet connectors (I have them on my Kioti 3510 also, behind the seat). You can buy a splitter on Amazon. LIXIN 14AWG SAE DC Power Automotive Connector Cable Y Splitter 1 to 2 SAE Extension Cable, www.amazon.com/dp/B07TVWZLTD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fgHDEb9RHWT This allows you to not only add your lights but some specific implements (I have a small towable sprayer) use 12v at a low current.
Thank you for your videos. I’m a new tractor owner. I purchased a new 1025r in August. I currently have 10 hours, and looking at preventive maintenance. Attachments include loader 120r, box scraper, bush hog and quick hitch imatch. I watched your video regarding lube / shuttle and have a question. You recommend using Mos2 moly grease and lube shuttle recommendations for compact tractors is to use G200 multi purpose grease. Not sure what type of grease to buy.
You mentioned 3 point hitch float. Using this feature can be very important as float allows your attachment to follow the contour of the ground. Sometimes, if the attachment, like a 72 inch flail mower, cannot follow contours, your attachment frame can become bent with twisting force. What I have done is to replace the vertical lift arms with a piece of heavy chain. so that my flail, chipper, rotary cutter can follow contours without damage.
So the float that is being described is not really up and down and much as allowing each arm to go up and down some individually.... Like eliminating the twisting chance?
@William Mack Chain is a great idea for wide implements being used on side-to-side undulating ground for when you don't want one side of the implement digging in from the weight of the implement, or lifting its opposite side off of the ground!!!
The quick connects on the wiring harness in the ROPS is so you can remove the ROPS to preform maintenance. There are 2 purple wires there you can use for additional lighting. Be sure and install a quick connections on the wires you add for the lights mounted to your ROPS.
Great tips. One that I thought of was in my 200cx loader. I used the top pegs by the quick attach to hold “extra”pins when I broke one off. Also, it sounds lame but a hidden feature could be to flip the tires around to get a wider stance. I read though my loader instructions on line since you published your video on balast. The manual tells you that you HAVE to have a minimum tread width to use it. My 4410 rims are reversible however I would need to make sure they are wider. This is quite helpful BEFORE I fill it with fluid and try to reverse the rims. One feature you have talked about on a few posts was with regard to the Joystick and rock shaft knobs. I also the rock shaft rate knob to lockout my rockshaft Incase my kids jump on and bump the lever to lower it and have the ballast crush someone. I also do the same with the joystick lever. Oh I also use my tubes on the loader to conceal my extra rolls of toilet paper that I’m hoarding. 😉
Geeez, Mike, I realize the 2nd wave is coming but I thought the TP hoarding thing was over. Maybe I better go buy 600 rolls tomorrow just in case. Thanks. Clever comment. I love it.
I have a JD 1025R and have used the wires in the back to add additional lighting on my ROPS. You pointed out wires on both sides, do they only have power when you turn on the light switch or is there a set that has power with the key switch. I would like to have power to the back of my tractor to run a sprayer.
One day I was driving my 5320 John Deere cab tractor threw town and decided to stop at a Dairy Queen to get a bite to eat. A couple of the employees may a fuss over my John Deere tractor, say how they like tractors and they said it was the first time anyone ever came in there driving a tractor. I have had people ask me serval times if it was fun to drive my tractor , and they said it looks like it would be fun. I was farm raised growing up driving tractors. I would have to say yes it is enjoyable "fun" to drive a tractor. Using them with all the different equipment. I like all the different brands of tractors , I do have a few favorite brands John Deere and Massey Ferguson's. I love all the older model tractors. Good video.
@@donaldthomas5852 I drove a tractor once when I visited my home land of Italy. My uncle owned Lamborghini and I just fell in love . I believe my fascination is with all the options the gearing and attachments allow this beautiful machine to do.
For cold weather starting on earlier JD sub compacts, instead of cycling the starter switch several times to heat the glow plugs, you could engage the pto switch or shift the hi low range in gear. Either one would keep the starter from engaging but still allow the glow plugs to heat when you turn the key to the crank position. Once you’ve held the key in the crank position for 30 seconds or so, turn off the pto switch or shift hi low to neutral. Then start engine as normal.
I added some lights to my JD 2035. I used Grote bullet connecters. They are 180 diameter Grote is a trucking light manufacturer They have wiring harness.. I did not think about the splitters
This was a fantastic video! I didn't knit ha about that loader lockout button! I'll have to check to see if my JD 2320 has that. You just don't know how many times I'm doing something with the 3 pt looking behind me.... Not knowing my leg has made to loader with the bucket or forks go down.... And I make some very destructive alterations to the lawn! This will be one of the more useful things I take advantage of! I also use the forks as a lift for the smaller mower tractors for maintenance. I back them onto the forks, chain the back of the tractor to the forks so it can not roll off the forks by accident, then raise the forks so I can work under the lawn tractor. It works great like a mini hoist. I usually place bricks under the forks though so they can not accidentally lower.
I love the mirrors. After 3-4 hours of cutting hay and having to constantly lean to the right to see the haybine, I have frequently fantasized about putting a mirror on the loader arm just like that. But as far as not getting on off on that side? I wish. A LOT of times the "step & handle" side is up against barbed wire or a thick stand of hedgeapple trees (especially when I am running the wood chipper) and I can ONLY get on/off on the loader controls side. Curse Kubota for not having a step (and handle - save the steering wheel) there - several times I have sprained my ankle by slipping off trying to climb up that side for the 20th time in a day.
Safety is a Definite must,my 2032 when running the Brush Mower and engaged in reverse, would kill the tractor, was frustrating from killing it,but found a u tube video that took you thru steps and the control board, and easily made it so I didnt have to push the pto button afterwards, great video again

I have a 2017 1025r TLB. I'm interested in attaching a 5000lb Badlands winch to trailer hitch mount for occasional use. Do you you know if there are any wiring plugs in the rear I could use for this purpose? Thanks Karl
The wiring harness will not carry the required amperage to power a winch. I did mount one of those 5000lb winches on the front of my 1025R. Very, very handy around my place.

Can you do a segment on the brush grapple and compare it to a 3rd function remote operated grapple? Talk about the durability, cost difference and uses. And do they make one that would fit a New Holland Workmaster 55?
At 9:30 he states rolling the bucket forward to drag materials that should never be done if the rams are on the top side. If something solid is the way the rams will bend.
Yeah if you're going like hell and hit something solid, things can bend or break. But out in the middle of a smooth open area like a driveway, dragging backward with the bucket is one of the handiest uses of a loader and bucket. Just take it easy and watch what you're doing.

I have actually just started noticing the floating 3 point hitch secret. Now every time I am looking at tractors I am searching out these various hidden enhancements. Wow, thank you for pointing these out.
Loving the videos while on self quarantine
Stay safe Warren!
@@GoodWorksTractors thank you to you too Courtney!
Look after yourself!
Thanks for sharing all the features I already have, but never knew.
Haha, thanks for watching!
Where is the link to the Good Works Tractor Amazon store link you mention at 12:25?
love the chain draw idea in the loader frame
Yes, me too!
Yep... been wondering where to store that!
Agreed. Didn't explain well. Thanks for your input!
Ph? Pt?!?
3PH mean Three Point Hitch
The three point float lever is about left to right float. With no power down a device will float but will be forced to be flat across the arms. Most useful IMO for mowers but I will use it will back blades and such on a driveway. Opposite is when you want to create a crown you need that locked so you can force a box blade off level.
all the years of operating my tractor i thought i knew it all. the 3pt hitch floating position, i did not know that. you are awesome!!
Ha! Happy to help and thank you for watching!
yes awesome, just realised my branson also has this ability and from quickly looking at pics on my phone of tractor it has around 4 inches of float at this point, that will assist heaps with my verge flail mover on uneven ground
The holes in the loader frame were used to hold the loader to a wooden pallet during shipping from the factory
I Put a Hydrolic Cylinder as a top link, Works great for hook ups and with my Box scraper.
Just bought my first new tractor John Deere 2032 for bush hogging 6 acres and tilling a small garden.Loving the tractor!
Great video, I pick up my very first tractor (JD 1025R) this weekend. I am very excited..
Awesome, have fun with it!
Thanks for watching!
I use the tube on a loader for shovels or rakes if I'm spreading gravel.
Yep, good use for sure
I do the same thing. One shovel or two rakes fit and sit quite well
Cool, I could of done that this past week
My Kubota 3301 doesn't have some of these features, but there is some great info here on those it does. Thanks.
LIXIN 14AWG SAE DC Power Automotive Connector Cable Y Splitter 1 to 2 SAE Extension Cable,
www.amazon.com/dp/B07TVWZLTD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fgHDEb9RHWT
This allows you to not only add your lights but some specific implements (I have a small towable sprayer) use 12v at a low current.
Good stuff, thank you for posting!
Both floating features are super useful and I had no idea! Thanks man!
This was very helpful, I just started driving a tractor and knew I was missing something important to save time and used the tractor correctly.
Happy to help!
I just bought a John deere 870 with a belly mower. How do I get the 3 point hitch to work? The only lever I have raises and lowers the mower deck
Really useful video and tips for this cool products for new omner as me! Good job man!
Thanks so much, have a great day!
Great video and I ordered a mirror of my JD 1023E
Awesome, enjoy!
At 11:05 is that a 1025R with double wide back tires? Is that a supported John Deere configuration and can you add that to a 1025R existing tractor?
Hi, I did it because I wanted to. I've done a couple videos on it. I didn't really care if it was JD approved or not, haha!
Very helpful information
💥 This video is gaining some traction. Good tips! Great job.
Keep on tractoring! 👍
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while 😂👍
You mentioned 3 point hitch float.
Hi William, that's a really good idea especially if you're running a dedicated attachment on that back side. Thanks for sharing!
So the float that is being described is not really up and down and much as allowing each arm to go up and down some individually.... Like eliminating the twisting chance?
Correct. Still up and down, but it's independent on the right and left arm. Basically it adds float to a second axis.
@William Mack
Chain is a great idea for wide implements being used on side-to-side undulating ground for when you don't want one side of the implement digging in from the weight of the implement, or lifting its opposite side off of the ground!!!
I just checked my JD 2320 and it doesn't seem to have that option. Bummer
What a great, well done video. I learned a lot about my JD. Thanks!! I ‘liked’ and ‘subscribed’.
Glad you enjoyed, thanks Ted!
Just found your channel. Good job and good information. Thanks1
Thanks for watching!
A few good to knows in this. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
The quick connects on the wiring harness in the ROPS is so you can remove the ROPS to preform maintenance. There are 2 purple wires there you can use for additional lighting. Be sure and install a quick connections on the wires you add for the lights mounted to your ROPS.
Tim, are these purple wires in the connectors he showed on the video that are tucked in the back?
Great info Mike, thank you for taking the time to share!
Geeez, Mike, I realize the 2nd wave is coming but I thought the TP hoarding thing was over. Maybe I better go buy 600 rolls tomorrow just in case. Thanks. Clever comment. I love it.
TP is overrated! An old towel is better! Butt floss n toss! (Even works when wet! Try THAT with TP!)🤪💩 😜🤠
I use the loader tube for rakes and shovels storage.
I have a JD 1025R and have used the wires in the back to add additional lighting on my ROPS. You pointed out wires on both sides, do they only have power when you turn on the light switch or is there a set that has power with the key switch. I would like to have power to the back of my tractor to run a sprayer.
My grandfather will put large sticks in the tube of the loader and break them so they fit in his bucket!
I would like to know if you carry or sell a quick hitch category one and what is the price.
thank you
Excellent 📹
I love tractors although I have no use for one .... I would still love to own one. lol
🤣👍
When you buy one you soon find lot of use for it.
Good information! Thanks for sharing!
Very welcome! Stay safe out there!
Great video!!!
Yes, good info for sure!
I added some lights to my JD 2035. I used Grote bullet connecters. They are 180 diameter Grote is a trucking light manufacturer
They have wiring harness.. I did not think about the splitters
Good tricks to know! Another good thing to know is, if it ain't green, it aint mean! Thanks for sharing! 👍👍
Haha, I'll keep my mouth shut!
what john deere
Haha, awesome. Glad you found something new! Stay healthy and safe!
The John Deere rock shaft speed control only limits the down speed. The up remains constant regardless of the down speed.
Correct
I think of it as an adjustable restrictor on the hydraulic return (down) side of the lower link actuator
Great video and I have both Kubota and Deere tractors, so I now I want to use these features on both.
Have fun!
Then you need a Branson! You can get on and off either side,,,
Great info....thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Loved it. Great vid. Can't wait to see your dually in action.
Thanks! Hopefully some good video of it in the field pretty soon!
RIO switch is stupid, find the schematics for your tractor and jump out the RIO circuit with alligator jumpers. Not permanent 😉👍
Safety is a Definite must,my 2032 when running the Brush Mower and engaged in reverse, would kill the tractor, was frustrating from killing it,but found a u tube video that took you thru steps and the control board, and easily made it so I didnt have to push the pto button afterwards, great video again
It is very frustrating. Just a safety issue!
@@GoodWorksTractors ,yea really had me sayin WTH,then I found info and cured it,works great now,but Im sure when I get the 30039R here in a few weeks,Ill have to start over again, for sure frustrating
Great stuff enjoyed that!!!!
Thanks for watching Mike!
I took rubber mat off as always getting crap under it so through it out sprayed it with box liner never wears out power wash scrub brush like new again, also cut some channel 45 degrees welded to to watch blade when snow removal.
The hole on the john deere loaders are for when the loaders come to the dealers they are bolted to a pallet. Great video love watching.
Thanks for your input. Have a great day!
The holes are for paying $90 for hardened edge that you can install.
I have a 2017 1025r TLB. I'm interested in attaching a 5000lb Badlands winch to trailer hitch mount for occasional use. Do you you know if there are any wiring plugs in the rear I could use for this purpose? Thanks Karl
Good question. I'm not sure, but do know I've seen a winch added to the 1 Series before. I assume they tie it in to the battery directly?
The wiring harness will not carry the required amperage to power a winch. I did mount one of those 5000lb winches on the front of my 1025R. Very, very handy around my place.
Th best use of the front tube is to bend bent t-post straight
I also use it to carry tools to the job site
Great video, how do you straighten the black protection bar over the drivers seat. Mine is on an angle and I can’t figure out how position the pins correctly
Some of them don't go straight up and down, but have an angle to them.
How can I get a jd neon clock like the one you show in the back ground??..thx
Found mine on eBay :)
awesome video Courtney, thanks so much learned of two things I had not clue about and should be able to put to use. I love your videos! Don't tell Tim, but while I like his, yours are a little better overall
Haha, I'll keep that between you and I!
good information
Question, does the 1025R have these hide items ? I look, but did not see .
Go, 1025R has it , I look agian
Probably some, but not all
