I went with the Macan S in a Night Blue Metallic with a tan interior. Absolutely amazing! I didn't go for the larger wheels because I wanted more rubber on the tires for the NYC streets. My upgrades include heated seats and steering wheel, panoramic roof, lane change assist, Porsche entry and drive, 19' Macan sport wheels, upgraded Bose sound system and high gloss black window trim. Total: $68,510 USD. Test drove the others except for the Volvo and for me, nothing compared to the Macan S! I previously owned 2 Maserati Ghiblis.
As it should be for a Porsche. My wife and I were looking for a more luxury "family" type German crossover. The roads here in Maine are awful and I am also looking for some comfort too. I still have my sports package A4 for my toss around vehicle. I am an Audi guy so we went with the Q5 PP. Decent value for this level vehicle. $16,000 less. Enjoy your Macan!

this has to be one of the best comparison videos I’ve ever seen on TH-cam with the exact list of SUVs I’m considering. Love the approach and length of time in each vehicle including driving performance and super-clear HD (maybe 4K?) video. The end comparison is exactly how I feel right now, indecisive :)

With reference to your comment that the Volvo XC60 has a “soft” steering, as an owner let me point out that the “stiffness” of the steering wheel can be adjusted to your liking through the car’s options from the center infotainment screen. I have mine set in the middle, not too soft yet not too stiff. You can also adjust other driving preferences in the same way and save them as a “custom drive mode”.
3:24:33?? It feels like triple length rather than full length. Liken all of them, was hard to see them all in a video, thank you for this detail review!
Thank you again for your awesome reviews. Now that I'm 70, and had my share of V8's, my wife and I decided it's time for a 2020 luxury compact SUV. It had to be approximately 185 inches long to fit easily in our garage. It had to be a solid colour, because metallics are very difficult to touch up, so we chose white. So much for Lexus, Toyota, Acura, etc. We also didn't want sport seats, with big side bolsters, nor did we need an SUV with a V6 or V8. After looking at all the reviews and taking many test drives to check turbo lag, quietness, handling, ease of infotainment use, etc, we narrowed it down to four vehicles that met our criteria...the Audi Q5, BMW X3, GLC 300, or Porsche Macan. The Audi was nice, but is getting a mild refresh for 2021, so we didn't want to buy a 2020 model. The X3 felt big inside, had lots of cargo room, but we couldn't get the rims we wanted with all season tires. The salesman said we would have to buy snow tires as well, and we weren't prepared to do that. The Macan was very nice, but has too many buttons, HUD is not available, and you have to open the rear door to put the seats down. These may be minor points, because all of these SUV's are good, but I think they are worth mentioning. We ended up ordering a fully loaded GLC 300, Polar White with Night Package, Bicolour 20 inch wheels, but NOT the interior sports package with the sport seats. We traded in our 2012 M3 and 2012 Honda CRV for the GLC. With the run flat all season tires on the 20 inch wheels, the suspension is perfect, and the ride is nice and quiet. The GLC 300 with it's 2020 refresh, new 255 hp engine and MBUX seemed like the best choice for us, and we would definitely recommend it.
Outstanding video. I am cross shopping the X3, GLC and Q5. Having a hard time deciding but this video does provide a lot of very useful information. Keep up the great work.

Very well done and informative video. I had a Q5 coming off lease and was looking at all of these SUVs EXCEPT the MB GLC (just hadn't thought about it). The Volvo held a top spot mostly due to aesthetics as all are so very close in specifications. After watching this, I went and drove the GLC, eventually finding the best deal on that car vs the others. I've had it for 3 weeks and am very happy. Thank you for a very comprehensive evaluation that enabled me to feel certain about my choice.

Happy New Year. Thank you for video. I would love to see a similar length review of the XC60 PHEV, with all assistance systems, mid trim level. I would predict 6-7 litres mixed cycle with it.
I was ready to get one, really excited, until I learned it is limited to 180 kmh. For most people that is not a problem, but for me (in Germany) that is a deal breaker as I use to drive faster. Sadly, I'm not even test driving it anymore.
Thomas, Enjoyed the SUV comparison, as I am in the market this year. As you have noted before, picking a car is a very personal and emotional choice, as seen in the wide variety of responses you have received on these cars. My personal take on these cars goes like this- Audi- boring, boring, boring, your grandmother's car. Tacked-on infotainment screen looks like an afterthought. Volvo- interesting interior, but handling is a zero. Exterior styling looks like a Volvo (boring) GLC- Interior looks nice, but I think MB tends to make their interiors look too "glitzy" (think E-class). I considered an E-Class wagon as an alternative. Tacked-on infotainment screen. Column shifter is a downer for me. Exterior- generic SUV but not bad for the segment, second only to the Porsche in this group. Alfa Romeo- Several of your readers mentioned this one. Nice car but reliability is a zero. Macan- Scores high in everything IMHO. Great handling. Great looks. Integrated infotainment touch-screen looks much nicer and works great- not "tacked on". Great cockpit design, analog gauges, normal shifter. Good choice of rims and tire sizes (I know, for a price!). Contrary to some reviewers, I LIKE the buttons on the console. A lot better than digging through the screen menus. Just punch the button! Other cars (like Lexus RX) have just as many buttons but they are scattered in multiple places. At least with the Macan they're all in one place. I figure in this price range one should get a car that one really likes, with as few compromises as possible. As for me, I ended up ordering a Macan S. The E-Class wagon was my second choice at almost exactly the same price as the Macan S. Yes, Porsches are higher and lots of things are options. But I figure over a 10-year ownership period, the price difference probably only amounts to two or three dollars a day, well worth it in my opinion to get the car that I really want. Macan = exciting. Others = boring and nothing to get excited about. My two-cents' worth......and to each his own!
Hello Thomas, Your comparison came at a wonderful time. My wife and I are planning to buy an SUV and this hit all the spots. My questions is this we’re looking at GLC 43, X3M, SQ5, XC60 w polestar upgrade, or the Macan S. Would you stil rank them the same or does going up to the 6cylinder change your thoughts. Thanks again Thomas, your reviews are so enlightening and comprehensive!
Detailed and informative video. This makes it so easy when choosing between these vehicles and their competitors. May I suggest you include in your videos the general long-term reliability and maintenance costs of the brands when discussing these vehicles. You could also have a part of the video showing 3 people sitting in the 2nd row to show the 2nd row space. All in all, amazing video and keep up the fantastic work! 👍
i've driven the base model Macan and was in love with everything but the power... it costs way too much to be so slow ... you have to go to at least the macan s!
Coming to the end of my lease with an x3 and trying to decide what to get. I just test drove the xc60 today and loved it not to mention I think it’s the most attractive looking model in the segment. I’m glad I came across this video which compared these different models very well!
Best wishes for 2020 The most impressing thing in your review is that you look and experience every auto as a Consumer , who is very careful about his choice and pays maximum attention to each and every Detail of the product , which he is gonna buy and the price he will have to pay for it . Consumer’s satisfaction and trust on your information is based on the feeling and impression you let the viewrs get that you are standing on the side of a possible buyer/ consumer , which is very important and you have it . Just like always , very detailed very broad informative review. Thanks .
@@autogefuehl OK, I watched it again and yes, you essentially did. I suppose I'd hoped you would overwhelmingly confirm my personal bias. I'm in the midst of selecting one of these or something close right now. Again, great reviews.
I am debating between used macan and used glc (both year 2019-2020)? In my country macan is 30% more expensive, but then the glc does seem to depreciate less than the macan. Any thoughts? I might thinking of reselling the car again 5 years from now.
Will go now for the Volvo XC60 PHEV T8 R-design. Drove 200.000 in the 2015 model and had never one single problem. Comfortable, safe and very reliable.
I regularly change my cars….and this year…the 3 I short listed..x3 M sport….GLC 220d amg….Macan entry…I had the Macan previously…and a x5….the toss up was between x3 and GLC…..ordered the GLC..await delivery end february
I think the interior quality may equal the German cars but Volvo has more style. I just wish Volvo would work out their steering/handling/quietness/ride comfort dynamic qualities more. I keep waiting and waiting and they get closer but they should really work at it more. Seems Genesis is getting closer to it that than Volvo is. Because the Volvos really are nice looking now and have very nice interiors.
Hello, must say that your comments and review are serious and helpful. To answer your question I went for GLC 350e with airmatic instead of GLE 500e. I don’t drive on autobahn so for me local roads with 40-100 km speed limit with 30km/day works better. GLC 350e is very nimble and has a sharp start, that is very helpful when entering bigger roads from side roads. Airmatic is working good and daily drive combines dirt road 2-3km with tarmac. When running on battery (circa 23km after 6h charge from 220V) car is very responsive, when driving on mud or snow the el drive is perfect. So after 10k km with the GLC I am happy with the decision. Only concern is how long will Airmatic last? Can you say something about maintenance of models from 2017 onward and overalls reliability? Keep posting 😀
Shout out to Thomas for making such in-depth review for these 5 SUVs. Extremely helpful for any serious buyers. Just curious about the 2020 tüv report mentioning GLC being the most reliable used vehicle in the 2-3 years range, is the tüv report somewhat similar to the J.D. Power in the U.S.? I mean, if the tüv report is an independent and creditable source for information, I am quite impressive with GLC topping the list.
I have a fully loaded XC60 T6 R-Design in white with 22" rims. Because of the 22" rims, it has wider fenders and looks badass. I just prefer the exterior and interior over the Germans and I got great leasing rates. I have no problem with the Infotainment system. The two major negative points are the bad fuel economy and that the suspension/ride quality is worse than that of the Germans (even with the air suspension). However, since I drive less than 15.000 km a year and mostly on smooth roads, both negative points are not a big deal.
Thank you for such a lengthy video and detail of each car. This is really lovely for comparison. I love all these SUVs very much. My favourite is the Mercedes-Benz GLC, mostly due to the new MBUX infotainment that comes standard where I live. I love the new design and integration of it. There is so much the driver can do. The GLC's infotainment is also the easiest in my eyes to use and it is very clear. Maybe that is because I am use to Mercedes-Benz's elegant style. The customization range of the GLC (colour, seats, exterior body, interior, headlamps) is so wide. There is so many cool options. I love a vehicle with many options and variations regardless of trims. Fuel economy is good for me. It is quiet and comfortable like a C-class. Another positive is that is is not just a smaller GLE. It has its own character. It feels like a C-class just as the GLE feels like an E-class, which it is. The GLC is truly the C-class of SUVs. My next favourite is the BMW X3, mostly due to the looks of it and the infotainment. The BMW I-Drive is also really nice. I love the MBUX more, but the I-Drive is not far behind at all in my eyes. It is rather nice. Good fuel economy. I like that the BMW X3 is is not just a smaller X5, rather it is unique and stands on its own, especially in options. Quiet and comfortable for sure.
This channel manages to produce some of the most elaborate and German-esque reviews and, to a certain extent, analysis of the given vehicles. Its like writing a Karikaturanalyse for your Geschichte Abitur examinations, except its about automobiles 😂
One of the very best reviews of these models so surely appreciated, thank you!! We have owned a 2012 Volvo XC60 (and currently own a 2020 mod XC60 too), owned an BMW (X5) before that...test drove the Audi Q5 and also the Porsche Macan AND the Cayenne in the past. For the next car, already test-drove the MB GLE 350de. Still very unsure what to try the next. We loved the X5 iDrive, space and feeling. MB seems very similar. Now, Volvo's control solution is so clean and kind of easy, but, surprisingly - not so very practical in real life...so we think it's a "good bye", even a great car. Anyway a great, balanced review and a good reviewer. Thanks!

I own a 4 year old Q5 Technik, love it but it's already rusting! Had a Volvo before and not a spot of rust after 10 years. I was looking at the Macan but after seing this video, I'm considering going back to Volvo :)
Hello Thomas, fantastic reviews here... hope you will keep on keeping on for 2020 ! Happy new year! Also, may we know which car do you use personally on a daily basis ? cheers
Mercedes GLC in coupe variant is my favorite SUV. I always go for which model is the best looking. 2nd I go for quality of build. I think I’m my opinion the Mercedes comes 1st with the Porsche Macan a very close 2nd. Next year I will be trading my two year old BMW M340i for the Mercedes GLC Coupe.
I just ordered a silver prestige Q5 with black optics package and warm weather package for my lovely wife. Maybe in about 10 years I will order Porsche for myself, if my kids decide not to go to college.
I think the conclusion pretty much sums up how good these cars are lol. If price wasn't a thing, definitely the Macan for me. But I'd settle for the GLC. Or maybe the Q5. But the Volvo's interior is beautiful. Oh, dammit.
Great, thorough video as ever. Superb! All great machines but depreciation in US makes them dumb purchases unless you plan to keep them 10-15 years. New X3 is about US$50K but one 3 years old with only 45K miles costs US$18-20K. Where did the other $30,000 go? Plus all the time you have $700 a month payment with perfect credit and very, very high insurance. X3 is not supposed to be a rich person's car but the math seems to suggest their owners really must have money to burn.
I do plan on keeping my Q5 10 years like my A4. I only drive about 3,000 miles a year. The 2011 A4 only has 46,000 miles on it. The secret to deal with depreciation I heard is to put 20% down to fight that and you won't be upside down if you decide to sell it in the first 5 years.
I vote for xc60.Second x3. I’ve an xc60 right now. I was the owner of an Audi Q5 in the past but I had many reliability issues and quality was not so good despite the premium price.

I would love to see a similar length review of the XC60 PHEV, with all assistance systems, mid trim level. I would predict 6-7 litres mixed cycle with it.
I really enjoy these reviews.
Welcome!
thank you for excellent coverage of all features . additional in put of fullest automatic , without gears would have more informative
That Porsche looks fantastic.
My 2019 Volvo XC60 is the best vehicle I’ve owned in fifty years of driving.
I was ready to get one, really excited, until I learned it is limited to 180 kmh. For most people that is not a problem, but for me (in Germany) that is a deal breaker as I use to drive faster. Sadly, I'm not even test driving it anymore.

That's really strange. I wonder if thats done for safety reasons. Still not great tho
Really like this. Great family car. Can't wait till this available on the configurator 👍🏻
Thank You for including Porsche. As a fire fan of Porsche i'm glad to listen some great compliments about Pride of Stuttgart.
I own a 2019 Q5, It's fantastic
Nice! 🤙
No you don't
@@morrisdennis why not?
Awesome review. ❤️❤️

Thomas, Enjoyed the SUV comparison, as I am in the market this year. As you have noted before, picking a car is a very personal and emotional choice, as seen in the wide variety of responses you have received on these cars. My personal take on these cars goes like this-
Audi- boring, boring, boring, your grandmother's car. Tacked-on infotainment screen looks like an afterthought.
Volvo- interesting interior, but handling is a zero. Exterior styling looks like a Volvo (boring)
GLC- Interior looks nice, but I think MB tends to make their interiors look too "glitzy" (think E-class).
Totally agree
Thanks for review. 2021 Audi Q5 is awesome...
Great review!!!
BMW x3 is my choice ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Jonathan Losito comfort is more important than speed in an suv
Hello Thomas,
Your comparison came at a wonderful time. My wife and I are planning to buy an SUV and this hit all the spots. My questions is this we’re looking at GLC 43, X3M, SQ5, XC60 w polestar upgrade, or the Macan S. Would you stil rank them the same or does going up to the 6cylinder change your thoughts.
Thanks again Thomas, your reviews are so enlightening and comprehensive!
thanks m8! Would do the same
So detailed and informative, thank you.
🙏🙏
Great review- your voice is so soothing- makes you wan to listen!
😊
I prefer the Macan but I bought the Q5 sline 2019 because of my wife, would not be agree :), fantastic to drive, so quiet and responsive!
Great reviews-highly recommended
Thx! Feel free to share it with your friends
The X3 all day 😍
Detailed and informative video. 👍
Thanks! Sadly I cannot comment on long-term reliability and maintenance costs, no idea how I could do that in a representative fashion
i've driven the base model Macan and was in love with everything but the power... it costs way too much to be so slow ... you have to go to at least the macan s!
I agree, but then it's not a fair comp to the others. The Porsche can get expensive real fast for items you can get standard on others.
Coming to the end of my lease with an x3 and trying to decide what to get. I just test drove the xc60 today and loved it not to mention I think it’s the most attractive looking model in the segment. I’m glad I came across this video which compared these different models very well!
welcome! Please share =)

What was your experience with the X3? I’m considering it. Did you like it?
I just bought BMW X4 and its awesome!
Me too - 2022 X4 m40i :-)
Best wishes for 2020
The most impressing thing in your review is that you look and experience every auto as a Consumer , who is very careful about his choice and pays maximum attention to each and every Detail of the product , which he is gonna buy and the price he will have to pay for it .
Consumer’s satisfaction and trust on your information is based on the feeling and impression you let the viewrs get that you are standing on the side of a possible buyer/ consumer , which is very important and you have it .
Just like always , very detailed very broad informative review. Thanks .
Thx m8 all the best!
Excellent review, as usual. I wonder which one he'd pick if they were all the same price.
Didnt I say? :)
@@autogefuehl OK, I watched it again and yes, you essentially did. I suppose I'd hoped you would overwhelmingly confirm my personal bias. I'm in the midst of selecting one of these or something close right now. Again, great reviews.
Volvo XC60, try the hybrid one. Second is the Merc GLC, for me.
I am debating between used macan and used glc (both year 2019-2020)? In my country macan is 30% more expensive, but then the glc does seem to depreciate less than the macan. Any thoughts? I might thinking of reselling the car again 5 years from now.
Macan is overpriced indeed!
Light interior gives additional 10 points for the car.
Omg I’m glad I came upon this video! 💙 BMW it is for me.
Welcome!
What is the color of BMW please tell.
Good review
Thanks 🙏
I pick the XC60.... because I have one, and I love it.
Yes indeed
Glad I saw this video before deciding. Thank you!
Great great video, thank a lot guys! Macan is beautiful.
Thanks for the feedback!
definitely Macan.
I think ur right
between the macan, GLC, x5 and q5 it seems x5 uses less fuel?
which one has the best sound system?
Quiet and comfortable for sure.
thanks for the feedback :)
This channel manages to produce some of the most elaborate and German-esque reviews and, to a certain extent, analysis of the given vehicles. Its like writing a Karikaturanalyse for your Geschichte Abitur examinations, except its about automobiles 😂
welcome =)

Also, may we know which car do you use personally on a daily basis ? cheers
Execellent review 👌🏾🌹
Macan & X3 😻
Mercedes GLC in coupe variant is my favorite SUV.
I always go for which model is the best looking. 2nd I go for quality of build. I think I’m my opinion the Mercedes comes 1st with the Porsche Macan a very close 2nd.
Next year I will be trading my two year old BMW M340i for the Mercedes GLC Coupe.
Audi Q5 owner since 2016 I’m going to upgrade with new Q5 best one
I just ordered a silver prestige Q5 with black optics package and warm weather package for my lovely wife. Maybe in about 10 years I will order Porsche for myself, if my kids decide not to go to college.
Happy new year, to you guys and to all car lovers and entuziast ! 🥂🍀😎
👌
Wow best 3.5 hours of my life, slept like a baby.
Lol
Audi Q5 - the best all round...👌🏻
I think the conclusion pretty much sums up how good these cars are lol. If price wasn't a thing, definitely the Macan for me. But I'd settle for the GLC. Or maybe the Q5. But the Volvo's interior is beautiful. Oh, dammit.
😂 1st world problems.
What year was your Q5? I currently have a 2019 and I’m concerned about long term reliability
Meldoy32 u better sell it n get get a Toyota rav 4 or highlander
@@Painandgain943 we’re comparing LUXURY PREMIUM crossover SUVs here, bro. RAV4 and Highlander are not in this league just so you know.
Macan, Merc, BMW, Volvo, Audi for me. If stepping up to the mid size high performance models then definitely the Macan Turbo at number one.
