There is no tricking a team into thinking that you can sign away their player if they already know that the player won’t even sign an offer sheet with you. Pistons also need more shooting. Adding players like Cam though might be able to which is why he’s been a hot topic in Detroit. The construction of this roster has been a complete joke for years now under Weaver and he’s been able to get away with it because we’re rebuilding. Monty should definitely help but he needs guys in the locker room and on the court who can lead these kids (Cade, Ivey, Duren) until they develop into the franchise players we’re all hoping and praying they might be.

We also used a 2nd rounder we got in the trade to acquire a top backup PG in Monte Morris. Sitting out this free agency was 100% the right move. When the team is ready to make a jump, sign free agents then, and extend draft picks after F/A which allows you to be over the cap.

Here's some sense to it. The trade was to offer 108M. Which is 27 million a year. Brooklyn matched the price. Cam Johnson wanted to stay in Brooklyn. Remember they already talked. More than likely Troy was in negotiation with them. So instead of taking nothing from this negotiations Troy decided to make the team part of it in order to get something better for this year. Otherwise another team would have did the deal and we will receive nothing. If you look at the board, trade board that is there's barely nobody on there that's valuable. Don't just listen to Somebody rant. That don't have insight. Or don't look at the whole big picture of it. Taking what they say with a grain of salt.

People dont understand basketball and cap space this is a great move by troy. You dont overpay cam Johnson and screw yourself for four years just because he's the best out of a terrible list of free agents. The only move for the pistons is to get expiring contracts and assets to flip or build so you can use that cap space next year when it's some good free agents or trade this year before deadline. I would even trade for tobias Harris Harris expiring contract and have all that money next year to really get somebody good.
