"Champ champ tell me about your fiery francophile the Parisian torpedo Tony Parker. Can he continue to be your main butter and egg man and still cook the boys in big D?"
He keeps doing it with all the ex-Spurs of today too. They're all having success and they took the next step. Hopefully the Spurs will draft a foundational piece to go back to their contending level.
He is the greatest coach in NBA history and when he retires he will have the most wins of all time with 1 team. You can have Pat Riley and Phil Jackson. Give me Pop.
That is true. But also notice how Phil also picks teams with emerging top 20 all time talent? Yeah, he took a good team and turned them into championship teams, no doubt, but I don't see him rebuilding a team. Nor do I see him changing his philosophy like Pop has done. Im a Spurs fan, Ive seen the change from the 4-down with Duncan to the most beautiful offense I've ever seen that we have today. A system that wins without talent. Coaches need talent, but I'd love to see how many championships Pop wins with Phil Jacksons talent pool. I'd dare say that the Shaq Kobe Lakers would have stayed together longer.
That was a reporter asking him a question that was A) incredibly stupid, and B) already pretty much answered itself. Pop gave an answer that matched the absurdity of the question.
No, the reporter was asking a question that would allow the reporter to write a clear story for people who can't devote that much time to basketball to be able to get a general and interesting picture of what happened in that night's game. Those are the people who buy the merchandise and tickets, which pay his fucking salary and allow him to make 7-figures a year telling people how to bounce a ball. Understand?
I believe one of the reasons that the Spurs were so successful as a team is that their most important players (Duncan, Ginobili and Parker) had personalities that matched perfectly with the type of coach Pop is, being the 3 of them really hard working, resilient and unselfish guys, putting collective goals above individuals. I don´t wanna throw names, but am not sure if other "diva-like" superstars would have a good time with this man coaching them.
