But Ragnar isn't a man he is a straight-up DOG cause he tried to have them both for three ways :D... That's why Lagethra left him... But the risk of having a 3 way with Lagethra and Aslaug instead of just having one of them is a risk I would also be willing to take :D
it's probably why she chose to kill Aslaug instead letting her go. Lagertha was so salty at this that she sent of Aslaug to Valhalla in the equivalent of a Viking life raft. Just look at how tiny that boat is for a *QUEEN* , even Jarl Haraldson got a full boat with a human sacrifice in tow.
@@m-bronte that tiny boat she sent her off in says otherwise. Even Jarl Haraldson's sendoff was better- Aslaug's shameful funeral (for a Queen) was Lagertha giving her the finger as she left the world.
Auslag's smile tells me that she was expecting it. She had no where to go and since she thinks Ivar is dead she doesn't want to live anymore. That was her way of bowing out gracefully. She "sees" thins so I think she saw it coming.
Vannisa Ratliff i agree, she saw this already happening...actually we see a scene that she already invisioned a war on kattegat and it was lagerthas people. she could have left... but she didnt... i liked aslaug..
No, I don't think that's what it was at all. I think it was more her way of defeating Lagertha. She basically told Lagertha "I'm not going to fight this your way. I'm not going to give you the satisfaction of thinking you are the better person reclaiming what I 'stole' from you. So instead, I'm going to give you no real reason to kill me by surrendering willingly, and if you do kill me, it will cause endless problems as my sons take revenge. So what will it be, Lagertha? Will you act like the heroine you think you are, or will you murder me and show your true colors?" That smile at the end was of her winning.
Me too, but to be honest he only stayed with Aslaug because she could produce children, he didn't really love her, he still loves Lagertha but she was unable to carry a child
Little real history fun fact, Aslaug was Bjorns mother not Legartha. Legartha and Ragnar had no children together. So actual life Aslaug was mother to all Ragnar children.
Alisha Smith no in the sagas Lagertha and Ragnar had 3 children between them. But Aslaug is Bjorn's actual mother and Ivar was actually the oldest not youngest.
If she didn't like cheating, she shouldn't have forced a man to raise a son that isn't his in Season 1 when he came to ask that she judges his cheating wife for bearing a son with another.
I love this scene. Aslaug and Lagertha are as different as night and day, but they had grudging respect for one another. Aslaug's entire speech is flawlessly calculated to make sure that Lagertha understands exactly what she wants and what the consequences will be for her if she obliges, without losing her dignity as a queen in the eyes of the people. Quick breakdown: - Aslaug gives a respect nod to the Seer, because they both know what's about to happen. - "How strange that you should play the usurper. One woman against another doesn't quite fit your reputation." - She's invoking Girl Code, reminding Lagertha that assuming the leadership of women creates an obligation to Aslaug, because she's a woman and about to lose her home and crown. - "I was never the usurper, always the usurped. You took my husband, my world, and my happiness. The fact that you're a woman is neither here nor there," - Lagertha rejects the obligation; Aslaug broke Girl Code a long time ago, she doesn't get to play the victim now. - "I didn't take your husband, he chose to be with me." - Aslaug defends her position. - "You're a witch. You bewitched him." - This is a HUGE admission on Lagertha's part; in Norse mysticism, magic is a woman's art, and Lagertha is a warrior who never even thinks about any form of mysticism, but Aslaug is a volva with a known gift; she's acknowledging that Aslaug has feminine power she does not, and that's why she's confronting Aslaug directly. Aslaug is a worthy opponent, at least in this specific arena. - "If that's what you want to believe ... but it's not always magical, is it?" Aslaug denies using magic against Ragnar for two reasons: one, to make it clear to Lagertha that it was Ragnar's choice to be with a more feminine woman, and two, to make it clear that she doesn't have the power Lagertha thinks, which means she's acknowledging that Lagertha has the upper hand. - "Ragnar is dead, I dreamed it / You don't know that./ I don't know for sure, it was a dream." - Aslaug tells her they have nothing further to fight over because Ragnar is dead. This is important, because if Ragnar is dead, they all know he'd be in Valhalla. She also acknowledges that she does have a prophetic gift, and used it to help the man they both loved. - "I have dreamed of taking back my home" - Lagertha spits on Aslaug's prophecy: Aslaug has dreams that she can't know will ever come true, but Lagertha came here with a dream and is going to *make* it come true. - "I could never fight you, I am not my mother, nor yet my father. I would never win." Aslaug rubs her noble/heroic lineage in Lagertha's face while pitching the Sword of Kings into the mud: none of this means anything to her now, but she's still the daughter of Sigurd the dragon-slayer and the valkyrie Brynhildr, while Lagertha was born a peasant, and that means Aslaug is due a certain amount of respect. - "I have given him those sons. I am just as much a part of his saga as you." - Reminding Lagertha that everyone's destiny is decided by fate, which she knows is one of Lagertha's most closely-held belief, while also flaunting her fertility.. but at the same time, acknowledging that Lagertha is also part of his story. -'But now I renounce everything." - Aslaug is admitting that none of this means anything to her, now that her destiny is fulfilled. - "All I ask is safe passage...to wherever the gods decide." - Notice the emphasis on the word "ask", she's asking for 'safe passage' to the afterlife, where the gods decide what Hall the dead will reside in. That meaning is for Lagertha specifically, while the crowd just hears her asking to leave Kattegat safely. - "You will have your hearth and home, with my blessing, and my sons... will be grateful for the manner of it, and not seek revenge," - Aslaug assures that she wants Lagertha to kill her, but also warns her that her boys will avenge her, so if Lagertha does what she's asking, she's inviting consequences. - "I understand." Lagertha gets it. - "Thank you." So does Aslaug. Lagertha waits a few steps and then puts an arrow in her back, and Aslaug smiles, because Lagertha just slew her in a battle, even if it was only a battle of wills. She's smiling because it means Lagertha is letting bygones be bygones to allow her the opportunity to see Ragnar again in Valhalla.
Aslaug asked for Lagertha to kill her. The "Safe Passage" she was referring to was safe passage Valhalla. She was asking for Lagertha, a fellow shieldmaiden, to end her life in an an honorable manner. Lagertha shot her in the back because Aslaug hand no intention turning around , as she had nothing to fear. "The manner of it" the she was referring to was the manner of her death. She died without fear at the hand of a warrior, the manner of her death would not bar her from Valhalla, she could enter if the gods desired. Lagertha understood this and grantee her request.
sluggo now, she was just making sure that everybody knew what Lagertha really was before she was killed. now everything that could happend will be just her fault. i dont believe that even Bjorn could support her mother after that
It's pretty obvious Aslaug asks Lagertha to kill her: she says she has fulfilled her destiny by giving Ragnar many sons (so she has no reason to live anymore), she asks for a "safe passage" to wherever the gods decide (Valhalla), she says that her sons would "not seek revenge" (for killing her) when they hear the "manner of it" (meaning killing her without making her suffer). Lagertha says she understands and the smile Aslaug gives while she dies confirms they had an agreement.
@@akeeMM of course their sons did come for revenge anyway, she was their mother! It doesn't mean she wasn't asking Lagertha to kill her mercifully, "how it was done" clearly means the act of killing her.
Aslaug asked Lagertha to kill her. Honerable death by the hands of a shieldmaiden she would be granted "safe passage" into Valhalla. Hence, the smile Aslaug gave at the end.
if she were to gain entrance into valhalla that would mean she would be reunited with ragnar..i wonder if lagertha thought about that..that the one woman she hated would be with the man she loved in the the afterlife forever
well she failed to do so..and when aslaug brought that up...that she was forever part of ragnars legacy in a way that lagertha wanted to be and never could..that flipped the "oh bitch, you are SOOO dead" switch in lagertha.Aslaug knew she was signing her death warrant saying that, thats why she said it..now she and ragnar will be in valhalla together and wait for their sons while lagertha will problably be blood eagled by ivat
Brittney she didnt ask it, she knew she was going to die anyway but she left Lagertha a choice in front of the whole village, a way to end it pacefully but she couldnt. Now everything bad that will happend will be Lagetha´s fault, i think that´s the reason Aslaug looked at the Seer before that, the same way the Seer looked at Lagertha during Aslaug´s funeral. Something bad is going to happed,
This scene demonstrated some of the best CODE TALK I have ever seen on TV. Each woman was completely honest in their observation, and committed to their position. They were dedicated in their roles (as actual characters in the story and actors playing them). There were no surprises here, all was done in plain sight. The only ones who were shocked are the ones who struggled to pay attention. Great show.
@@chadstrats2431 I will copy what @sluggo9687 said seven years ago: "Aslaug asked for Lagertha to kill her. The "Safe Passage" she was referring to was safe passage Valhalla. She was asking for Lagertha, a fellow shieldmaiden, to end her life in an an honorable manner. Lagertha shot her in the back because Aslaug hand no intention turning around, as she had nothing to fear. "The manner of it" the she was referring to was the manner of her death. What a childish excuse for her part: Ragnar was the one who chose to have sex with Aslaug and part of the problems Lagertha brought on herself were basically brought on by her own impulsivity. The most fatal flaw of Lagertha is her impulsiveness.
Aslaug dropping the Sword of Kings into the mud like it's a worthless stick should be worthy of an arrow in the back. The disrespect for what that sword represents is astounding.
By killing Aslaug she still betrays Ragnar because she breaks the bond that unites her sons, Ivar’s desire for revenge is justified and everyone would want to do the same as him and that she had to expect
@@Shane-Flanagan They all are far from perfect but in my opinion Lagertha is as bad as Aslaug or even worse, she is selfish, hypocrite : "all we ever wanted was to be farmes" fk off bitch... you wanted power and wanted to be a queen just like the rest of the ambitious women out there, at least Aslaug, Margrethe and Astrid admitted it from the start. She eats shit by saying that she loves her people but in reality she loves her pride and ambitions far more thus starting a civil war.
@@alexbluez7632 All the characters were flawed in some way which is somewhat realistic. I notice you just highlighting the women. They weren't as bad as the men. Maybe Lagertha took power out of hatred for Aslaug. Also she may have wanted to secure the throne for Bjorn in case it was past down to one of Ragnar and Aslaug's sons.
@@Shane-Flanagan Maybe, but I don't think so, mainly because Bjorn was not interested in the throne, at least he wasn't interested at the time that Lagertha killed Aslaug. His ambition was to see the world and go where no viking has gone before. So that is why I don't think she did it for Bjorn, yes, by killing Aslaug she secured Bjorns position to the throne but that was just a bonus for her, the real prize is that she gets to be queen. The men are flawed as well, take Bjorn for example, he judged his father when he cheated on Lagertha with Aslaug but when he grows up he does the exact same thing with other women. Hypocrisy runs in the family.
Rammstein0963 I'll give him that he's meaning it metaphorically lol Although a younger Ragnar and Ivar wish functional legs + Bjorn, can be an unstoppable force...
ahaha Atilla wont come... Neither Caesar/Nero/Aragorn/King Arthur... You fuckers are soon gonna face Thor Odinson/John Connor Face to Face. Then we all gonna see how tough you all really are.
From 2:48 and onwards it becomes very clear that Aslaug asks Lagertha to kill her and send her on to "whatever the Gods decide". Can't believe I missed this when I watched the episode, it's very clear. It's not an ugly smile at the end from Aslaug, it's a smile of gratitude and relief, that Lagertha's "I understand" was truly an understanding of what Aslaug asked her to do. Great scene!
Seems that she wanted to be killed not because there was an understanding between them, but because her sons would avenge her since she wasnt able to. The final smile seems like an "you have done it now, walked straight into my trap." Pretty much an parellel to ragnara death if you will. And so her sons did what she wanted, except bjorn delayed it from happening.
@@Neetia89 i mean...shes dead so it did, no matter how she was killed haha. Either way, her plan was pretty much going according to plan when ubbe and ivar went into the hall to kill her. Without bjorn her plan would have worked but yeah i guess youre right about it not exactly working out as planned.
I always loved Lagertha. I never liked Aslaug . I can`t say that i m sad for her death, but nor am happy to see a great warrior like Lagertha, shot someone in the back. Also she killed many of her own people . First she kills them, then she says enough .. these are my people ... this is hypocrisy. I didn't expect that ,very disappointing.
why would someone love that betrayal slut, shameless, arrogant bitch called lagertha? she has always been the worst among main characters. Even Rollo has more honour than her. Hope Ivar will slaughter her brutally.
I suspect that Aslaug foresaw the misery and calamity that will come, her role was done and I think she was happy to die on a high note. You can see even when the arrow hits her she is still smiling.
Stray mind I agree. obviously i knew Lagertha would kill Aslaug i just didn't think it'd be with an arrow in the back. In previous seasons, Lagertha never wanted to rule; her and Ragnar wanted to be farmers. now she's sitting on a thrown in Kattegat obsessing over a man She left because he cheated on her. Idk what Hirst is doing w/the writing of her character but it kinda sucks.
Nope. They never even met in the real story. Ragnar had long since broken up with Lagertha even before he met Aslaug(she's also the most famous, amongst all of his wives, they just made it differentl in the show).
"I chose to leave this place, became an earl and am relatively successful.. hmm, all the warriors are out raiding you say? Nothing but farmers and workers? Time for a silly revenge plot that makes no sense!"
"I understand..." when those words where spoke the made agreement with each other to,, shoot me in the back but you do know my sons will wont revenge.. They were speaking a whole different conversation than the crowd was listening to.. Thats why she said i understand,, and thats why she smiled when she got shot in the back.. "When they hear about the manner it was done..." Conversation within a conversation.. "Nor yet my father.." her father was shot in the back.. " nor YET..." Vikings fan since season 1 here.. Trust me.. Please like my comment to boost my self esteem.. Been fucking up lately but just got a blessing to day that ensures me that,, I AM special...
I’d love if you were correct but I really think you’re giving the writers too much credit here. What built this show was its simplicity and Travis flamel, not good writing and intricacies.
For a person as smart and strong as her this is probably the dumbest move she did. I get she was pissed at Aslaug but she still should have let her live. She got everything she wanted back already and she knew she would make enemies of Ragnars sons if she did this but still did it. She could have had them as strong allies if she let her live but i dont see them letting this go. Her days are numbered now
@@cynthiacorona9845 that doesn’t really work here. Let’s be honest, if she wasn’t fighting, she was useless. I can’t believe that lazy trick actually worked. The only reason people think Lagertha was so great is because they kept being told she was.
Glücks no she was a princess of Gotaland, she also has divination and seer powers and it was fate that she would bear ragnar’s sons did you see the series at all.
I like how all these fangirls say Aslaug is a prostitute but ignore the fact that Lagertha slept with Rollo, Ecbert, Astrid, Kalf, Sigvard and she even raped Harald.
Yeah, she's laying a lot of the blame on Aslaug instead of Ragnar himself. Kinda disappointing. I mean we already knew she could hold a grudge, but meh, seemed needless.
I lost a lot of respect for Lagertha by the way she dealt with that situation. The way Aslaug was killed was a cowardly act. I was never a big fan of Aslaug, but I don't like Lagertha the way I use to. I use to think Lagertha was a role model for women; she just ruined that.
I suggest you to read more real history on vikings and watch less tv. Vikings followed strict moral codes, even stronger than christian ones. Christian killed vikings more likely than Vikings killed christians. Pagans respected other beliefs or at least didnt care about them, not the same with christians who killed anyone who didnt believe their stuff. Vikings were subjugated by the violence of the church, not viceversa so be careful on what you think of them based solely on the tv.
The moment Lagertha put an arrow through Aslaug's back, she got her deserved long-awaited vengeance & she also made an unforgiving fearsome enemy: Ivar the Boneless!
Aslaug and Lagertha are both queens. Each has own stand, Lagertha is so powerful, a warrior, resembles a manly character. Aslaug is elegant, like a lionness who doesn't attack, watching her den. Perfect characters.
The lioness isn't a passive observer though, they don't just sit and watch the den and get bred. They are the hunters and leaders of the pack. This is not a good comparison.
@megakuli I'm not sure why you would try to correct me when you can't even spell the word metaphor correctly. This was literally already covered in my initial response. It's not a good metaphor. It isnt symbolic of a fucking lioness for the reasons I already gave. Again, it's a bad comparison. Now, go fail to correct someone else.
Understand, people, that in this scene it's Aslaug who is the winner here. Lagertha has always used her position as victim to justify her actions (always the usurped, as she puts it). Aslaug starts the conversation in front of everyone to make Lagertha's supposed motives very clear; Lagertha wants everything she gave up when she left Ragnar back. So, without a fight, Aslaug gives it to her. Now Lagertha has no real reason to kill Aslaug anymore, not without casting a shadow on her reign. Aslaug even announces, rather loudly, that if she is spared there will be peace and her sons will not take vengeance. But Lagertha wants blood. So she kills Aslaug, and the former Queen dies knowing that her killer's rule will be cut short. Lagertha was always power hungry and a little delusional about herself, and assassination has always been her main method of achieving status.
But this isn’t true.. lagaertha was asked by aslaug to be killed honorably so she could go to Valhalla. So with that in mind it wasn’t out of character.
auslaug entered the life of ragnar and lagertha knowing that he was married. as if the fact that she was pregnant with ragnar was not enough knowing that, she still wanted to assume the position of wife beside ragnar. she wanted to meddle in their lives. why didn’t she just have his kids out of family? time because I wanted to be queen too. even if it was to be shared with lagertha. she doesn't have anything. did things very well articulated. obviously lagertha could have accepted the situation but did not. she is a household destroyer, that is what she is. a self-respecting woman will not be behind a man of others.
Don't care I hated aslaug from the start. Which granted is a sign of a well written antagonist (? I guess, not really a protagonist) but still she was vile and I hated her
So by the look of this show, the Vikings never forgive or forget. How would this settle with the craziest of them all ===> Ivar the Boneless. Don't know if this was a good move.
Lagertha was a ungreatful bitch. She couldn’t provide children and Ragnar still said she is his wife and she and aslaug can share the throne. Honestly when lagertha invaded Kattegat is where I started to hate her. Every episode makes me hate her more.
Ragner was only with aslaug to get the kids he should have only made her the mistress he didn't need to marry her I'm sure she would have accepted her role as only mistress then he could have been with lagertha, but I'm sure lagertha would have told him take a shower becoming to bed after your with her, just saying ragner didn't need another wife aslung would have been better off as the mistress then she wouldn't have a say over what he did
Say what you want about Aslaug but lagertha knew killing her would make Ragnar's sons fight. You can't blame Aslaug's sons for wanting revenge and you can't blame Bjorn for defending his mother so Lagertha is the one that started the whole fight between the sons of ragnar and that indirectly caused the death of Sigurd, Bjorn and Ubbe. If she didn't kill him, Ubbe would have been the rightful king to kattegat but he would have let Bjorn be king out of respect. Ubbe would have gone to find America like he did. Ivar probably wouldn't have wanted the throne and definitely wouldn't have fought his brothers for it. He just wanted to raid and live and die like a Viking. Hvitserk would have followed Bjorn and Ivar or Ubbe. The only thing that may still have happened is Ivar killing Sigurd coz those two never liked each other. But the rest of Ragnar's sons would have lived in peace with each other and made their father proud. Also with all of them United there is no was they would have lost any battle against the Rus or King Alfred or King Harald or anyone else.
Nope. Björn could have judge his mother. He did it with Rollo and Floki too So Bijörn is as guilty. The Bild innocent are Aslaug and her sons despite Ubbe
Well, Aslaug could have very well been a witch like Lagertha claimed. I rewatched the first two seasons and I noticed 1. that the seer told Lagertha that Ragnar is in danger from the magical world 2. the seer also tells her that "shadows" will take something she loves away from her (he could've been speaking abot Gyda though, maybe even both) 3. when Ragnar was speaking to Queen Kwenthrith on the ship, she claimed her little brother was manipulated by magic to fight against her and she asks Ragnar wether he ever fell into the hands of magic So it might have been that Aslaug really bewitched Ragnar into sleeping with her. If that was the case, she did really steal him (and that's what Lagertha believes at least).
Agnesa Ferizaj if she did "bewitch" Ragnar or glamoured him into being with her, why was he so harsh to her? I mean if she had control or the upper hand in the relationship why would she allow herself to be beaten by Ragnar? Why would he be sleep with other women if her spell was so strong? (2) the seer had already informed Ragnar that he would have many sons ;which conflicted with his marriage to Lagertha due to their failures to have more children togather. Ragnar wanted more sons and Aslaug bore them willingly and to Ragnars liking so I don't think he was under any spells. He just felt that the gods obligated him to bring sons into the world and Lagertha wanted the honor of doing so but Aslaug was destined for it. Kinda messed up!
Honestly, Ragnar would have fucked many slave women. He is and was a horny guy. If he was stolen from Lag, perhaps she should have tried harder to make sure no other women had a chance. It's her own fault. Lagertha will be killed because of this, Just wait. But first her only Son of her's and rag's will get killed to make her weak. And she will just go crazy. Lagertha set herself up with that arrow. She doesn't have the brains at times. But she is a hardcore feminist character who feminist's love. So bleh. 1 day away!
Nope, Bjorn will not die, he will be a king as Ragnars as it is written in the sagas. Maybe she will die, but i dont know what the writter will "invent" as he is completely twisting the saga by now.
But when it comes to the end it all doesent matter who cheated who and who killed who as long as they die brave and honourable or with a weapon in hand , they all reach vallahala. They believed and fought like they saw it .
Aslaug was killed in the back like her father Siegfried by a person jealous of his glory ... And like her mother Brunhilde she was burned ... Lagherta acted like Hagen Von Tronje and it did not bring him luck...
De Herte Alex Lol, you are stupid as hell, comparing the most legendary hero of Germanic legends to a fucking succubus that died as resulf of her intrigues. You are a fucking joke.
I think she wanted to rule that is why she approached Ragnar but she also falls in love with him along the way. Ofcourse Ragnar's unchanged heart makes her sad and lost confidence but I think she does not lament on that long, they rarely married for love during those time especially if they are of ranks. She got what she wanted.
@@OXO__ wdym? i would like to take back my first statement, after reading about the real aslaug, I feel like a fool. Hahaha I really thought the show told the truth about these people but I was wrong lol, they made it up some parts to be dramatic.
Man, Lagertha was all "dignity and reason and family and farming with a dash of warrior in the mix" for the first two seasons. She was awesome. Since then, she, like Ragnar, has descended into something ugly, violently ambitious, and deluded. Such a sad way to develop such an impressively original character. They've caricatured her these last few seasons.
as Ragnar said, " power attracts the worst and corrupts the best!" we've seen many occasions with all the characters that the more power they gained the more they got ambitious and tried in many "unhonorable" ways to gain more.
I believe Lagertha changed the day she left Ragnar. She was never really the same after that. Although she chose to leave with her dignity in tact she knew she lost either way. She lost her man, her family, her home, and her self respect even after she left because Ragnar did not really stop her from leaving he just let her go and chose to stay with Aslug. That's the biggest blow and she resented Aslaug for that ever since. What makes Aslaugs character so vile is that she doesn't give a fuck how much pain she caused Lagertha or the family as you can see to her response to bewitching Ragnar and her vindictive poke at the fact that Lagertha could not bear Ragnar sons. She is an awful excuse for a human being and feels absolutely no remorse for how much pain she caused Lagertha. At the end of the day she took Ragnar away without even really loving him as Lagertha did. She didn't do it for the sake of love she did for the sake of herself. Ragnar and Lagertha loved each other and she destroyed that love between them. That is what makes her character not loveable. At least if you are going to take away someone else s man do it because you love him because then there is a good reason. She destroyed a love and a family without a care in the world. Ragnar did as well, but he regretted it. She regrets nothing and feels nothing and it was all for nothing. She is indifferent to it. That is why Lagertha despises her so much because she didn't even make Ragnar happy nor care for Ragnar they way she did. After everything that Ragnar did to Lagertha she was always by his side and always loved him till the very end. That's true love stupid as it is! But Aslaug could give two fucks whether Ragnar is dead or not. Just look it the way Aslaug says that Ragnar is dead and Lagerthas response to it. That right there she tell you who loves and cares about Ragnar more.
@@lusinemanukian2567 Aslaug didn't owe Lagertha any loyalty Ragnar did... In the end by shooting her in the back Aslaug ended up being more woman and winning in the human department too... Asluag did waaaaaay more good in the world that Lagertha did and ended up being what she feared the most... Less of a woman than Aslaug....
@@chrisfelder7029 the point I am making is in regards to Aslaug's character and why she is not likeable. I am not saying that Ragnar has no blame in this because he obviously does, but she is no innocent bystander. She seduced Ragnar, had sex with him and then waltzes into his village and proclaims she is pregnant and expects Ragnar to take care of her and the child! For what? For her own advancement! Does she care how anyone feels? And the repercussions of her actions? Not in the slightest! In my book she is a vile and disgusting woman! Even when she came into Kattegat proclaiming her pregnancy Lagertha sat there and even made conversation while that woman sat at the same table next to her husband. Being the warrior she is, I would have assumed she would have kicked her ass! You think if the shoe were on the other foot and Lagertha was the one to come waltzing in her village and proclaim she was pregnant that Aslaug would just sit there idly by and let it happen! Haha I think not! I guarantee you she would not have reacted the way Lagertha did! The worst part of it is that Aslaug's actions come with no remorse or regret! She's like yeah I destroyed your happiness and took him from you, so what? She is unapologetic and gives no fucks! Yet Lagertha is so patient when dealing with this bitch because children were involved! She could have at any point come into the village and take back what was rightfully hers, but she waited and came when she knew the time was right! She is a warrior and a viking! It would not have been too hard for Lagertha to do away with Aslaug a long time ago, but she did not! And even now when she could have literally cut this bitches head off in an instance she shot her in the back! We all know what Lagertha could have done to her! But she instead chose to shoot her in the back! I wonder why? She didn't trust her and it was a merciful way versus the way Lagertha would have killed her if they fought! Lagertha and Aslaug are too very different women with with two very different moral compasses. It's funny how people make Lagertha seem like this ambitious and power hungry bitch, but yet no one states how Aslaugs main motives were just that when she came to Kattegat! You think Aslaug loved Ragnar? No, she loved the idea of him and what he could do for her advancement in life, but Lagertha was with Ragnar when he was just a farmer. Not only that, even after Ragnar betrayed her she always remained by his side whenever he needed her. She loved Ragnar so much! She would have done anything for Ragnar even after he betrayed her!
Loved Lagertha through the whole series but coming back to this scene i cant help to feel bitter sweet. By doing this she unleashes hatred and violence between brothers who could have been the most powerful brotherhood of the era. kind of a dick move when you think about it.
Agreed she knew the chaos she was about to cause she wanted her son to have everything because her own little kingdom fell apart now she came back there but revenge was def sweet
No people don't like her bcus she took ragnor from lagetha even tho she's pretty much the most innocent character on screen besides from her past of being a Morrigan. Lagetha started the war between brothers killed her for power and jealously. Lagetha would do anything for power
She wanted her home back but she knew Ubbe and the rest would never let their mother wander in the wilderness and she'd always be a problem Plus let's be honest. Even though Ragnar didn't come back imagine if he did. How would lagertha explain now she is queen and Aslaug is gone
This is Legertha's mistake, and to shoot someone in back is cowardly act. Revenge and death is expected upon her. Also I don't understand why she seeks revenge when she accepted their fate, and she got remarried. Not the Queen's fault, she choose to leave and pick an abusive husband, which she deserving kill and took over his position. She and the queen worked together, had a threesome and were friends. This part I don't understand.
I like reading the comments and seeing how many people thought Aslaug gave up like a coward, completely oblivious to the battle of wills and words that played out. Because as much as people imagine the Vikings to have simply been raiders and warriors, they were also quite skilled poets and storytellers. You didn't earn your way into Valhalla by simply dying in battle, you earned your way into Valhalla by facing death with courage and honour. Aslaug knew fighting Lagertha with blade was a lost cause as she had nothing left without her husband even if she miraculously won, so she instead chose to challenge Lagertha's conviction and to trust that Legertha would end her life as she wished. Because had Lagertha truly wanted to shame Aslaug, she would've just let the woman walk away. Denied the chance to die honorably without fear to be reunited with Ragnar in Valhalla.
@@flex9931 oh pls. If aslaug seduced then she was bitch but still she don't own anyone. On the other hand it was Ragnar who let himself seduced and took to next level knowing he has a wife and responsibilty. He is no fcking child but a person who made his own decisions...
The way I interpreted the situation as a whole was that lagertha was shown to have lost favor with the gods. Ragnar left her in charge while he went on a mission and a sickness came to the village and killed a bunch of them, even her own daughter, Gita. Then she experienced a miscarriage as Ragnar was foretold to have many sons. Then he comes across Aslaug by the will of the Gods.
starting this series over again and i really love the evolution of torvi. she starts out as this meek; needs saving; damsel in distress and becomes lagertha's right hand woman.
This scene made me hate Lagertha so muchhhh. Half the comments here haven't even watched the show and it shows. They just hate that Ragnar preferred Aslaug over Lagertha. Lagertha was so salty in this scene and shot her in the back. At least Aslaug accepted her death with grace. She was a good mother and never raised her sons to hate their father. Lagertha wasn't even important to the actual Viking stories, the show kept her cause 'woman is badass'. I'm glad the show turned to shit after Ragnar and Aslaug died. Just shows how all the good characters made it more interesting to watch.
Ragnar was with Aslaug because she could give him more children, that's all. His real love was Lagertha and she remained in the show because she was q cool character and ppl like her.
Aslaug knew she was going to kill her, that’s why she had that little smirk at the end. Like I’ll give you this little piece of shit town that I never really wanted, I’ll let you believe you've won, but the real truth is you are as dead as me Lagertha. She knew her sons would seek revenge and that Lagertha is as good as dead also. Totally not a fan of Aslaug but this was a lame move on Lagertha’s part. If she was going to kill her, be more strategic or better at it :/ Meh
Well Lagertha, i know you were losing your mind this last season but pissing off at least 4 sons of Ragnar?! Especially Ivar? I guess i know what the Seer is thinking by now: that you are so so fucked up.. I´ve never been Aslaug´s fan but she died like a queen, i dont think that Lagertha could say the same
I suppose it's a little shocking coming from Lagertha given how high a standard people hold her to, but I still don't get why this is so surprising and outrageous to everyone. This is the woman who killed the man she was planning on marrying the day of the wedding, who castrated a dying guy (asshole or not) just to prove a point. Vikings don't really do honour. Is everyone forgetting the way Ivar and Ragnar killed everyone they were travelling with to England out of sheer convenience? Or that fun time when Rollo (who will always be a viking a heart) killed all of his own men to win Gisla and her father's approval. Gisla said herself that it was a viking thing to do and Rollo never disagreed. Let's not leave out Harald and Halfdan, who are plotting for a way to overthrow the Lothbrok's and take over all of Norway, or the late Earl Haraldson, Jarl Borg, Kalf and King Horik. Yes, they all failed so far but if they had succeeded no one would have been particularly outraged because this happens all the time, it was the reason Lagertha had Siggy's life spared; because if things had gone differently it might have been her and her children in Siggy's place.
I agree, reading the comments actually confused me. "Out of character" to me, this was very in character. Lagertha is vengeful. I don't get why people didn't see this coming or understand the character's reasoning. Talking about "this was stupid, she started a war" I didn't get the impression she TRULY cared about that. She wanted revenge and must have figured IF she dies as a result, she's going to valhalla, so be it. But she's going to have her revenge, and if her "gods" were fair, she'd still have favor.
@@flex9931 Yeah but the show is made to entertain people, there's gonna be deviations and use of dramatic exaggerations; it's not a documentary. Historical accuracy isn't a priority, here otherwise the whole series would be a mess. I get that in rl the views on what Lagertha (and everyone else) has done would be received differently (personally idk, not an anthropologist or a historian here) but that's not what I was trying to get across. I meant, within the context of the show, what Lagertha did was far from unexpected or shocking with all the precedents and her past behaviour. Honor in 'Vikings' is great for people to uphold until it's inconvenient.
@@15Iceheart that’s because the show is inconsistent with true viking honor and historical characteristics for instance they made most of ragnars son peace loving guru in a time of war and hell on earth. besides that i kinda like the show just hate how modernized it is.
Two things made me hate Lagertha with all my heart : 1) When she forced a man to raise a son that isn't his in Season 1 when he came to ask that she judges his cheating wife for having sex with another man and bearing his son. 2) When she killed Aslaug. I hope Ivar makes her suffer before she dies.
Nothing good about shooting an unarmed woman in the back. Ragnar is as much to blame as aslaug but lagertha didnt shoot him, did she?? Needless killing.
Both the best and worst thing lagertha ever did. In the end aslaug won. She GAVE lagertha her throne back, very publicly. If lagertha had let her walk away she'd appear weak whilst being denied her revenge. But by taking her revenge she all but guaranteed she wouldn't know peace until all of ragnars sons (except bjorn) died, or she did. I think aslaug knew that, hence the smirk when she felt the arrow in her back.
This is so messed up!! She shot her in the back!!!??? Lagertha was just mad cause she married Ragnar!!! and she have him more sons!!! She should have been more mad at her husband not at Aslaug!!! She's just as dirty!! I hope Ivar gets his revenge on her!! I liked her but now I hope she gets what's coming to her!!! Aslaug treated her son Bjorn with respect and she couldn't even respect that!! Lagertha you turned out to be a coward!! and just an angry scorned wife!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
What about the fact that Siggy was Bjorn's child and he didn't even care about her? I never see anyone upset that Bjorn abandoned his own child and didn't even care that she died. He didn't even react to her death. Aslaug's reaction was callous, but the child was not even related to her. Why does Bjorn get a free pass for neglecting his own kid?
it was a huge time jumps...its already been 7 years since siggy death...i think bjorn already get over it...but katheryn winnick (lagertha) said they will deal with siggy death at some point...i think bjorn doent not know what really happens to his daughter...but he will find out soon
What's makes you think Ragnar's sons are the ones to die. They are actual historical figures. Lagertha is pretty much mythical so she has a much better chance of dying on the show than they do.
Lagertha is a snake.. thats why hvitserk is fated to kill her,,, all he sees in the hardest time of his life is a snake.. while he thinks its ivar in reality its the murderer of his mother..
I felt like this was really out of character for Lagertha. While in early seasons she was shown to be bitter and upset, blaming Aslaug, later on she was shown to have matured and gotten over something as trivial. She came into her own power and showed she didn't need Ragnar any longer. To suddenly revert to being this petty, jealous, and hungry for power was really odd. Also, I feel like Aslaug knew exactly what was coming. She knew, maybe from a vision, or maybe just knowing Lagertha's character, that she was never leaving Kattegat alive. She almost seems to have a faint smile on her face, for she knows Lagertha has sealed her own fate, Her sons will never allow her to live now.
Wouldn't have it any other way. Much as I hated Aslaug, she went out gracefully and respectfully. And without pettiness. Hell, both ladies restrained themselves from petty insults and Katty banter to simply speak plainly. And Lagertha still granted her request while doing what she came to do. That last expression Aslaug gives is like she was whispering "thank you" to Lagertha. As if Lagertha did her a one and final favor.
This scene is where I hate Lagertha,Aslaug death brought upon the prophecy that she will be killed by one of Ragnar's sons,if she had let Aslaug live in peace,no revenge would have melted on her.Aslaug wants peace but Largertha was foolish and stupid in this scene, well I'm not surprised, that's their way(Vikings)they have low mentality, their lust/urge for power does not allow them to think wisely and properly.
For those justifying what Lagertha did, Aslaug did not want to be killed by Lagertha. She wants to leave Kattegat and Lagertha did not have to kill her. But why do this without her sons? I am Glad she was avenged.

Aslug was more spiritual and spiritually charming
I like how Ragnar aged and Lagertha is still mid 30s.
Thats because mainly horndog bloodthirsty men are the majority of this shows viewers :D
Ragnar married Lagertha in his early 20s and Lagertha was only 6 years old. I know it sounds sick and all but in Viking society it was acceptable. jk
Aslaug didn't age much either. Really NONE of the women did. Judith, Gisla, Angerboda, and Torvi all still look pretty much the same.
Sorry Helga, not Angerboda.
***** Ragnar is 53 now though...
no sane man would have left Lagherta for Aslaug
But Ragnar isn't a man he is a straight-up DOG cause he tried to have them both for three ways :D... That's why Lagethra left him... But the risk of having a 3 way with Lagethra and Aslaug instead of just having one of them is a risk I would also be willing to take :D
A man that wanted more children would. Besides, Ragnar DIDN'T leave. Lagertha did.
Frank Hansen he didnt chose, he wanted them both.
Aslaug is way more regal.
Soulkiss89 I love what you wrote .
Aslaug is a junk of a person .
“And I’ve given him those sons.” The look on Lagertha’s face… Aslaug was rubbing salt in her wounds.
It's what got her killed.
Basically Aslaug lost her life but died with honor and dignity, Lagertha gave her a royal funeral if you remember.
Idk why but I'm starting to like aslaug more than lagetha now. Aslaug is smart af
it's probably why she chose to kill Aslaug instead letting her go.
Reklam för Cinematrix.
Vannisa Ratliff i agree, she saw this already happening...actually we see a scene that she already invisioned a war on kattegat and it was lagerthas people. she could have left... but she didnt... i liked aslaug..
Yeah, I think given the dialogue and facial expressions she made, she was asking Lagertha to release her to Valhalla.
Vannisa Ratliff I think she smiled because she knew her sons would want revenge against Lagertha and in Season 5 it looks like it is happening
Will you act like the heroine you think you are, or will you murder me and show your true colors?"
That smile at the end was of her winning.
I knew lagetha would come back for revenge. I was so pissed that Ragnar cheated on her and she left.
Alisha Smith jnjjbj
Quick breakdown:
- Aslaug gives a respect nod to the Seer, because they both know what's about to happen.
Great analysis

sluggo now, she was just making sure that everybody knew what Lagertha really was before she was killed. now everything that could happend will be just her fault. i dont believe that even Bjorn could support her mother after that

Leave me out of this tripe.
@@hagenvantronje8822 But there is still Cersei, in my opinion.

Daisy Ann ooooh, good point. Poor Lagertha. All she really wanted was to give Ragnar sons.
well she failed to do so..and when aslaug brought that up...that she was forever part of ragnars legacy in a way that lagertha wanted to be and never could..that flipped the "oh bitch, you are SOOO dead" switch in lagertha.Aslaug knew she was signing her death warrant saying that, thats why she said it..now she and ragnar will be in valhalla together and wait for their sons while lagertha will problably be blood eagled by ivat
Daisy Ann I didn't have a problem with Lagertha ending Aslaug. Imo, she seemed like a real trouble-maker.
Something bad is going to happed,
Finally! I've wanted her gone since her first scene!

Great show.
What was the code talk? If Aslaug knew she was going to die, why did she only smile the moment she was shot and not as she was walking away?

@@Shane-Flanagan Maybe, but I don't think so, mainly because Bjorn was not interested in the throne, at least he wasn't interested at the time that Lagertha killed Aslaug. His ambition was to see the world and go where no viking has gone before. In previous seasons, Lagertha never wanted to rule; her and Ragnar wanted to be farmers. now she's sitting on a thrown in Kattegat obsessing over a man She left because he cheated on her. Idk what Hirst is doing w/the writing of her character but it kinda sucks.
Lagertha kill Aslaug in the real story?
EXACTLY.
Lagertha betrayed Ragnar, Bjorn AND her self, by throwing all wisdom out side the window and say "Fuck everyone, I'm triggered".
Made even less sense than Jarl Borg in Season 2.
She said she’s been planning this for a loooonnnngggg timmmeeeeee. Listen peopllleeeeeeeeeeee.

I like how all these fangirls say Aslaug is a prostitute but ignore the fact that Lagertha slept with Rollo, Ecbert, Astrid, Kalf, Sigvard and she even raped Harald.
I hate Aslaug as much as the next guy, but that was uncalled for. I thought Lagertha was smarter than this.
Lagertha murdered her fiance on their wedding and made sure their child died in her belly.
abdou salem common dude these are vikings. they kill unarmed priest without a care in the world. this is no big deal.

No F u. Alsaug is for the streets.

@@PunkySlush How? The lioness hunts but the male both hunt and also protects the pack?
The two ageless wonders meet, and a mere arrow in the shoulder brings down the one with a godly connection.
Oh my god I love this comment
But this isn’t true.. lagaertha was asked by aslaug to be killed honorably so she could go to Valhalla. So with that in mind it wasn’t out of character.
@@jessefulton8841 That's bullshit.. it's plain murder and not a warrior's death.
Haha! then change the script!
Power? Why she left ragnar if she needs power . Hahah!
auslaug entered the life of ragnar and lagertha knowing that he was married. as if the fact that she was pregnant with ragnar was not enough knowing that, she still wanted to assume the position of wife beside ragnar. she wanted to meddle in their lives. why didn’t she just have his kids out of family? time because I wanted to be queen too. even if it was to be shared with lagertha. she doesn't have anything. did things very well articulated. obviously lagertha could have accepted the situation but did not. she is a household destroyer, that is what she is. a self-respecting woman will not be behind a man of others.

Typical that the woman gets the blame for the man's infidelity and greediness. Lagertha thought Ragnar was a saint
That was anti-climatic and a little bit of a let down. I don't think it should have gone down that way.
Auslaug wasn’t a witch, Ragnar was with her because he wanted more sons. Ragnar wanted Lagertha to stay with him, too.
He did it with Rollo and Floki too
So Bijörn is as guilty. The Bild innocent are Aslaug and her sons despite Ubbe
Honestly she didn't steal Ragnar from anyone, he choose her to father his children.
Well, Aslaug could have very well been a witch like Lagertha claimed. I rewatched the first two seasons and I noticed
1. that the seer told Lagertha that Ragnar is in danger from the magical world
2. the seer also tells her that "shadows" will take something she loves away from her (he could've been speaking abot Gyda though, maybe even both)
3. when Ragnar was speaking to Queen Kwenthrith on the ship, she claimed her little brother was manipulated by magic to fight against her and she asks Ragnar wether he ever fell into the hands of magic
So it might have been that Aslaug really bewitched Ragnar into sleeping with her.
(2) the seer had already informed Ragnar that he would have many sons ;which conflicted with his marriage to Lagertha due to
their failures to have more children togather.

Wrong. Lagertha was a low key bitch. She saw that Kattegat became a thriving center of commerce under Aslaug, became jealous and killed her.

The actress who played Auslag was so lovely, that I regretted her departure but her character had it coming
I love how Lagertha blames Ragnar's behaviour entirely on Aslaug. Even then women had misdirected anger.

Bjorn will wreck havoc on boneless if he acts.
steven wagner maybe, or maybe he will understand him. It was Lagertha who started all this family drama
Lyana naw half brother or not nobody especially vikings would let their mom get killed even if she was the one that started the conflict

Nothing good about shooting an unarmed woman in the back. Ragnar is as much to blame as aslaug but lagertha didnt shoot him, did she?? Needless killing.
@@Mira-gu6we Its just catharsis for a terrible plot moment
Then you missen the best!
Lagertha ego tripped and caused chaos, the death of her son, her own death and many people who were important to Ragnar.
at least she died smiling unlike laghertha now for sure she won t be smiling when dying .....
She will get burn as a sacrifice
This is so messed up!! She shot her in the back!!!??? Lagertha was just mad cause she married Ragnar!!! and she have him more sons!!! She should have been more mad at her husband not at Aslaug!!! She's just as dirty!! I hope Ivar gets his revenge on her!! I liked her but now I hope she gets what's coming to her!!! Aslaug treated her son Bjorn with respect and she couldn't even respect that!! Lagertha you turned out to be a coward!! and just an angry scorned wife!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Are you forgetting that your precious Aslaug neglected little Siggy and laughed off her death? She had this coming.
***** It's possible, but they better start showing some grit from Sigurd first, So far they've portrayed him as a whiny little bitch,
Hvitserk made justice finally, Lag is dead and died as she deserved. Aslaug didn't deserve to die.
4:03 that guy is only holding a broken stick lmao, there is no head of the axe attached to it
SHe took that arrow like a boss
holy shit with a smile too
im gonna miss her
Lagertha is a snake..
thats why hvitserk is fated to kill her,,, all he sees in the hardest time of his life is a snake.. while he thinks its ivar in reality its the murderer of his mother..
I never liked Aslaug because of the way she reacted to Bjorns daughter, little Siggys death. She laughed.
The safe passage and leave here in peace to whatever the gods decide: she was asking to be killed with honor by Lagertha to be in Valhalla.
This is my favorite scene from the show, Aslaug deserved this and so much worse
And thanks to lagertha, ragnars sons went to war with each other, which led to lagerthas own death
I'm just wondering how one arrow can kill someone sooo fast in every season
this was the best moment in the series
Lol killing Aslaug was the single and most dumbest move to condemn Ragnar's legacy, thank god for Ubbe though.
The proof in the show that aslaug was a witch was significant. She may as well have bewitched ragnar. With the power between her legs.
As if Lagertha did her a one and final favor.
well this puts ragnars plan on hold if he expects his sons to avenge him lol
This scene is where I hate Lagertha,Aslaug death brought upon the prophecy that she will be killed by one of Ragnar's sons,if she had let Aslaug live in peace,no revenge would have melted on her.Aslaug wants peace but Largertha was foolish and stupid in this scene, well I'm not surprised, that's their way(Vikings)they have low mentality, their lust/urge for power does not allow them to think wisely and properly.
The way I cheered like mad when Aslaug died SHE WAS SO ANNOYING TO ME FELLAS LEMME TELL YOU I WANTED HER _DEAD_
Only Athelstan was the truly good character in this show, everyone else is just so damn evil. Even Lagertha.
helga and gunnhild too? maybe?
Siggy too
When I really think about it. Lagertha caused all the problems with sons infighting lol.
For those justifying what Lagertha did, Aslaug did not want to be killed by Lagertha. She wants to leave Kattegat and Lagertha did not have to kill her. But why do this without her sons? I am Glad she was avenged.
