The reason why Ragnar wants both to stay is because he loves Lagertha but he also knows that he’s been promised great sons and he knew Aslaug was the key to that, he was doing what he thought the gods wanted him to do but he tried to cheat them by attempting to keep the love of his life, but she had her own destiny to fulfil

He's talking about when they lost their unborn child he was heart broken but what about her?! She carried the child and he didn't think about her or her feelings just go in knocked up another woman and stepped out of their marriage
If he thought through a bit better and acted out more patiently, respected Lagertha's position and pride, he could've done right by Aslaug (he did impregnate her, after all) and he could've kept the love of his life by his side. Instead, he acted impulsively (stupidly), didn't choose his words wisely and lost the love of his life. It all played out how Aslaug initially imagined, she was always after the position of the Queen and Ragnar was able to provide her with that, and in return, she gave him sons, but they never truly loved each other, and that's sad. Because Ragnar needed long years (decades) to comprehend that having more sons with the person who didn't get him and with whom he didn't share that true bond was not worth it. He always pinned after Lagertha, until the very end, they are what we like to call today 'soulmates', they were meant to be together and they were in the end, in death. Ragnar was foolish in this regard, he could've played it out differently, alas wisdom comes with experience (and age) and he didn't have it at that time :( Lagertha remained loyal to him in her heart until the very end.
lagertha did that she bought bjorn to her 2nd husband to take care for. Went to ragnar despite being married with other man? Even cheated him with rollo. Isnt she a horny bi!ch woman? Stop defending woman cheating then. Psycho.
Ragnar just being selfish and greedy. Doesn't even take Lagertha and Bjorn's feelings into account. But of course got no blame, Aslaug being the other woman got all the blame and hate from other characters and fans. Can't believe Bjorn did the same when he was king.
I mean. Their relationship was kinda rubbish to begin with, first Lagertha Cheated with rollo, then Ragnar cheated and got himself Aslaug, but then Aslaug cheated with the wanderer. Though the entire cheating cycle did infact begin with Lagertha and rollo before Bjorn was born. Aslaug has no dignity, and I lost a lot of respect for Ragnar. He knew he was on hot water, yet he still humiliated Lagertha. So proud of her for being the strongest and better person.
Aslaug had more dignity than lagretha . Lagretha was super ambitious and hungry for power. She only really cared for Bjorn and herself and ragnars dream. But mostly, being the most famous shieldmaiden . While auslag only had eyes for her husband's rule and here sons ❤ The fact that lagretha killed auslag from the back while she wasn't defending herself says enough . She is also single handly responsible for the constant tension and arguing between the brothers. This all could have been avoided if she had just put aside here lust for power and recognition.
I couldn’t stand how no matter what Latherga always showed up for him but when she needed his help when her earldon was usurped he only went to ask for his ships and warriors to go to Paris with him, but she was able to get back her earldom and justice/revenge!! ❤Latherga!!❤❤

I started watching this show today, was on the final episode of Season 1 and as soon Aslaug entered the story, I did a quick Google search and learned Ragnar betrays his wife. I was done and closed the season. I don't like the thought of a man betraying his wife like this. Men are so stupid. See a pair of boobs and an attractive face and that's it. That's how weak and stupid some men are. Others who are faithful are stupid in other ways.
He apparently never considered that she would leave and Bjorn would go with her. In a way, he ended up trading one family for another. Then he wondered if his sons would ‘enjoy more’ fame than he… his reaction to Bjorn’s future fame was telling. Almost like he realized that he could have stayed in that happy marriage with Lagertha. Still would have had Bjorn and Bjorn would have still been the king of all Norway. And Lagertha might have had a second healthy son given that she got pregnant again years later. He spent the rest of his life questioning the Gods. No regrets and every regret.
Yeah the other one doesn't even do it for me. I wouldn't say no if she offered to buy me a beer at the bar, but I'm with Lagertha all day every day. Ragnar was stupid. Sometimes you have to know when Good Enough is Good Enough and that is PLENTY GOOD ENOUGH bro.
It's funny how, because of his embarrassed body language, Ragnar looks smaller than both of them. I'm sure that's kinda how he felt 😅 too much on his plate
It's bad enough that men cheat and knock them up but to ask the wife to be the bigger person or anybody to be a bigger person and take the high road. They already are the bigger person for not being a coward and a liar in the first place. What their asking is for freedom from their own guilt. That wouldn't happen in my life. Ragnar would have been kicked to the mud.
Aslaug was a total instigating hypocrite. Happy to make advances on Ragnar, sleep with him, bare his child and move in with him at what would inevitably be the expense of his wife, love of his life and mother of his children, Lagertha, but then kicks off at him for speaking with an attractive slave girl? I actually get that, as Athelstan pointed out, it might have even been as much because it was a slave girl but still, the absolute hypocrisy of moving in on Lagertha's turf in every single way then complaining and whinging to Ragnar when he wasn't even close to doing what she stated.
And this is how you speak to your Queen!!?? Right after shes just lost your son, buried your daughter!!! U force this on her at a dinner table for everyone to see and hear. Lagatha was right in leaving. U lost a QUEEN Ragnar, because Aslaug was nothing but a spoiled child
Also, for the people saying he wasn't wrong and that's just how things were back then. Well, in the context of this scene clearly it wasn't common for someone to take two wives as he said he's heard of this and it's not that unusual trying to convince her. If it was common practice among their people he wouldn't need to convince her in this way.
@@Aesirnordic and I was saying that regardless of it being common historically. Clearly in the show it's not the total norm or else she wouldn't even have expectations of monogamy to begin with

@@phuphovlog she was dating Rollo before Ragnar. She didn't cheat

Ragnar was foolish in this regard, he could've played it out differently, alas wisdom comes with experience (and age) and he didn't have it at that time :(
Lagertha remained loyal to him in her heart until the very end.
lagertha did that she bought bjorn to her 2nd husband to take care for.
So i think we can all agree that the real Homewrecker here is Rollo, he was the one Who started This cycle in an already morally Questionable home to begin with. Merely making it worse, but then again, Blame EVERYBODY! cause thats the fair way to go :)

While auslag only had eyes for her husband's rule and here sons ❤
The fact that lagretha killed auslag from the back while she wasn't defending herself says enough .
She is also single handly responsible for the constant tension and arguing between the brothers.
This all could have been avoided if she had just put aside here lust for power and recognition.
It was not so much the infidelity that broke Lagertha, it was the sharing, being upgraded (a new wife to give him sons) and shaming her in public.

What man in his right mind would pick Aslaug over Lagertha 😛
I started watching this show today, was on the final episode of Season 1 and as soon Aslaug entered the story, I did a quick Google search and learned Ragnar betrays his wife. I was done and closed the season. I don't like the thought of a man betraying his wife like this. Men are so stupid. See a pair of boobs and an attractive face and that's it. That's how weak and stupid some men are. Others who are faithful are stupid in other ways.
All I was thinking was Ragnar shut up, shut up man shut up
Would’ve done exactly what lagertha did
He apparently never considered that she would leave and Bjorn would go with her.

Ragnar is embarrassed? I didn't realize men felt that emotion. Ragnar blew it!
Shut up idiot
He already knows aslaug will stick around no matter what so he’s trying to make lagertha stay
I fucking hated Ragnar and Aslaug during this episode. I really felt sympathy for Lagertha and Bjorn.
Ragnar is best❤
Lagetha is like “this b*tch has got me f*cked up”
He was a jerk. And mentioning her miscarriage to manipulate her was despicable.
Thank God Lagertha left him, for once the woman wasn't a doormat. if she had stayed, she would've been a slave for everyone in that house.
