I heard this when I was 19 years old on tape. Now I am 52 , alive and kicking in the Netherlands. And when I die I want this tuba solo from "when I die" on my funeral and the rest will live! Wauw!! love Margo

Dave Bargeron was the first horn player to play a tuba in rock history. Very cool to see a tuba playing a rock song.

Dave was (and is still) part of a Howard Johnson centric group of NYC low brass players that I always think of as "Gravity". HoJo's health is sadly in decline but his crew is still largely alive and well. Depending upon how one defines "rock" ...
Dave wasn't in the part of Gravity that Taj hired for the Fillmore East concert that produced the double album "The Real Thing" (Howard Johnson, Earle McIntyre, Joe Daley and Bob Stewart) but he was surely part of the clan.

Also, "rock"? Dunno but Joe Daley is still playing tuba in a great not classical/not Sousa band, Hazmat Modine.

I saw this group onstage in 1970 and it was the first and last time I ever heard/saw a tuba solo - it was amazing then and it is now. I am so glad I found this video - those were the days of $3.00 concerts at the old Civic Center in Baltimore - DCT invited everyone to come closer to the stage - and we did - sat on the floor in front of them - it was very warm and memorable.

So why did the guy make the tambourine stop playing? Other than the obvious reason that there should always be less tambourine? Lol...

This great tuba solo influenced my whole life! I listened to it in the 70ties and was convinced, that i should learn tuba. Unfortunately i am such a thin guy, that i ended up as a bass trombone in the end. But that is also a nice instrument.

how tiny you are doesn't change anything
i was a tiny girl and was bone and skins when I started. I got a little bigger but I'm still super tiny
(tiniest of all my friend and I'm the one that play tuba)

The Tuba player is Dave Bargeron, who also plays trombone. This was during the time when Jerry Fischer was the lead singer, in the mid 70's.
