Thank you, Dad, for playing this album for me on vinyl before I started pre-K. Thanks for teaching me to put the needle on the record by myself. This song and its sisters will not leave my mind and heart, I pray, now along with the story that goes with it. And I thought it was a timeless folk song... it is a timeless composed song. Thank you, Laura and DCT for inspiring me and many.
What was once great will always be great. I remember first hearing this in around 1970 and to this day is remains one of the greatest and most soulful songs ever. DCT can still tear it up as well. Not many singers from that era can retain their voices. He sure as hell still has it. What a voice !!!
My wife is 11 years younger than I am. We saw BS&T about 2004-05. She wasn't familiar with them, was just along for the ride. We were leaving and she said, "Wow, is he a sexy singer"! He has such an iconic, commanding voice. Jerry Fisher was his replacement after BS&T4. Poor guy, he was a great singer and made 4 great albums with BS&T, but never could shake the, "Not David Clayton-Thomas" problem!
best concerts I've ever saw him Iat Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver fantastic had a blast with my x wife Deeana outstanding performer David clayton-thomas
wow that is a voice i never even knew what was his name for decades all i knew every time i heard this song i would stop in my tracks blood sweat & tears was the band thats all i knew what an eternal sound he had imortal it was david clayton thomas was his name & i lived nearly 50 years to find out and when i die what a song sing for as long as you want david thomas
David Clayton Thomas is, quite simply, the embodiment of a jazz rock singer. BS & T tour with another singer now - GIVE ME A BREAK. BS & T without DCT is like Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band without Bob Seger, The Doors without Jim Morrison, or the Jimi Hendrix Experience without Jimi Hendrix.
Grand Funk without Mark Farner,Styx without Dennis De Young,The Guess Who without Burton Cummings or Randy Bachman,Herman Hermits without Peter Noone,Paul Revere and The Raiders without Mark Lindsey,The Monkees without Davy Jones and on and on and on.
The bass player's name is Jim Fielder. Jim was not only Nyro's boyfriend but also a childhood friend and bandmate of Tim Buckley. These artists were 2 of the most complex singer/songwriters of the 60s and 70s. They changed the history of composition and/or voice. No one matches them now. Lucky Jim -
Brian and Chief Kurtz - If I am the lead singer in a band, you are my bass player and I am your singer! It works both ways. If we don't own what we do, it ain't worth doing. You could argue that Blood Sweat and Tears was Al Kooper's band except he quit after the first album.
Saw BST a couple of times in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.First time in 1968 at the Concertgebouw at a night concert.Last time in 2010,25th of april in Paradiso.Great singerDCT.....
Is is the best, no question about that. And the story behind the licensing of the name Blood, Sweat and Tears is a very sad story to read. Read his autobiography!
LAURA NYRO had a relationship with Jim Fielder. Also with Jackson Browne and the drummer for Crosby Still and Nash, Dallas Taylor. After them she wisely gave up on rock stars. Nyro was a well known artist before BS&T became known.
Sure. And I'm not sure how seriously Nyro considered being the singer after Al Kooper left. But apparently her manager, David Geffen, was against it since she had an established solo career. Nyro was Geffen's first artist under management, and her success was his springboard for his future mega-success.
I'm sure David has told this story so many times, he may actually believe it happened that way. Laura was Jim's girlfriend, but at the time David joined the band (1968-he's not an original member, Jim was), and was going to cover 'And When I Die', it had already been covered by Peter, Paul, and Mary, Laura had already released two LPs (2 more than David had), appeared on the TV show "Where the Action Is', and performed at Monterey Pop Festival (which David hadn't). So, it's great he admires her and her talent, but for him to make out that she was some unknown talent, waiting for BST to 'make' her, is absurd. And technically, Jim wasn't David's bass player, David was Jim's singer.
I listened to him and his group when I was 16 years old. Love all its songs!! That is Blood, Sweat and Tears!!

Great song and there is only one David Clayton Thomas
That’s what is called singing. Great performance commanding the stage with presence and voice.
Amazing that his voice has stayed pretty much the same as when he was younger.
Loved your voice from the first time I heard it DCT....thank you for your soulful gift...God bless the child.....🙏

Great live singer. Very under-rated and many never know of this greatness.

Lost but GOD gifted me with MY "ONE!" LIVING. HERE..AMEN!.
DCT still sounds great.
this recording doesn't do the band credit......I was there and my clan was floored by his preforfance
Finger lickin good!
oooohhhhhhyes
Power and -- healing -- in his voice. Wish he'd come to Denmark, why not Tønder Festival, eh?
bene bene bene bravo bravo bravo
I wanted to hear the harmonica in the very beginning...... I wonder why they left it out?

The current Blood Sweat & Tears has none of the original members. Seeing them in concert is like seeing a Blood Sweat & Tears cover band
But they weren't all replaced at the same time, so it's like grandfather's axe.
Not even David was an original member.

steel town hamilton great world city
They should have told those rude people to shut the --- up!
All these damned drunk, babbling blabbers blabbing all over this superb performance are annoying.
