I like that trade change a lot, it decreases micromanagement and it is also pretty true to the time-period (in the Viking age even countries at war would still trade sometimes).
I should've specified needless micromanagement if you want to be pedantic, i.e. actions required by the player that do not require thinking. Managing trades is like that, since you never NOT want a trade agreement in Total War (since they are completely beneficial). Micro in a strategy game should always be involved with some trade off: f.e. do I put my population on food or production tiles in Civilization, do I want more productivity later or finish the current construction faster? In Total War the buildings are a good example of good micromanagement, there are significant oppertunity costs assosiated with what you put in each slot.
Rewatching after my veni-vidi-vici run. Run, the old fucker, lived until fullmap. 87 years he was when I finished the campaign. 😂
YES! OUR REINFORCEMENTS!
It's exciting that you're enjoying this game so much.

Jasper van Heycop why's it better that micromanagement is disappearing from the game tho? That's the whole point of total war games.
