lionheartx10 Great playing a game with your country in it I am expecting the next assassin's creed game because it will be in my country but in ancient Greece XD.
As a welshman, its really cool to see all the different places, especially when you've been there and seen the ruins of the castles, really interesting to see how they've decided to build them
Gwined: Episode 1 Lionheart fought 5 battles where as he has autoresolved 3 and played 2. He won 4 battles and lost 1. He killed 1607 enemies and lost 846 Welshmen, at least 1 due to friendly fire. His longest winning streak was 4 battles. (Ep. 1) His longest losing streak was 1 battle. (Ep.1) His Scout Horsemen killed the most enemies in one battle with 185 kills. (Ep.1) Rip Iowerth
Three things. 1. I am glad to see a new historical series by you, it's always interesting. 2. A suggestion for the army, The Red Dragons. 3. I think that declaring war on Powis would be a mistake as they are your closest ally with a good chance that Mercer will declare war on you eventually, they seem the type they were scouting your towns, you will need allies. Plus the ruler is the kings brother. Just a suggestion.
I'll always remember Gwynedd, if only because the Duke of Gwynedd was a massive pain in my ass for multiple generations during my CK2 game starting as the Earl of Sussex. In fact, I only got rid of those assholes when I created Britannia and gave away the Wales title to someone. They were those types of dicks that made all sorts of trouble in council, but always managed to avoid assassinations and never did anything to give me a legal reason to revoke. I was busy fighting off the Byzantine Empire, of all things, a result of a matrilineal marriage and a duke title given that seemed great until somehow the 10th son my daughter married inherited the Byzantine empire, sucking away all of Wessex, so I couldn't afford to have him and his cronies in Cornwall and Deheubarth rise in rebellion. Still irritates me all these years later.
*Wow this videos not been out 13hrs yet and you guys and gals have already smashed the like target on this part! Thanks for the amazing start to the series! :)*
I think his use of cav in this video was epic. Getting to the king just as the spears were reaching his unit. Whether it was just good timing or luck I cannot say but I think it was skill.
The Dragon's Conquest Part 1: King Anaraut stood by his modest throne and looked down upon the nobles who had been summoned to hear the King speak, “My father left a united Wales and what have my brothers done? They have torn my father’s work apart. The men of Wales who gave their lives to unify this land would be turning in their graves.” The gathered men groaned at the thought of it. “If God is with me then he will help me unite Wales once more. I am my father’s first born and by blood right, all of Wales should be mine. The devil must have corrupted my father’s mind when he decided to split the kingdom.” At the very name of the devil, all of the gathered men made the sign of the cross. “Today will see the beginning of our conquest for a united Wales once more!” The gathered nobles began to cheer and the noise filled the hall. Anaraut signalled to his guards who bashed their spear butts on the floor until the hall was quiet once more. “Eager as you are my friends to see this fight won, we have a fight closer to home to win. Men of our kingdom have risen up against us and would be glad to see our heads on spikes.Caswallon, you rode with my father but will you will ride with me?” “Aye m’lord. It would be my greatest honour to ride with you!” Caswallon bellowed. “And you Awen?” “I will always be by your side m’lord until the day the Lord takes me.” Awen replied “So who else will ride with me?” The other nobles began to chant Anaraut’s name and Anaraut allowed the chanting to continue for sometime before he held his hand for silence. Eventually the nobles composed themselves allowing the king to speak. Anaraut turned to the bishop who had stood silently alongside him, “Bishop Dedwyyd pray to the lord to strength our arms and send our arrows true. And now brothers we ride!” Anaraut drew his sword, which reflected the torch light, and strode towards the heavy oaken doors, which swung open before him.
Dragon Arising; Part 1: Arneth looked out onto the settlement that lay before him. He took a deep breath to calm himself. It had been two seasons since he bade farewell to his family, two seasons since he had took up arms, set sail with the king, and joined the Royal Army, otherwise known as the White Shields. He had been put on a ship with 59 other men, all armed with axes and the courage to fight for their king and country, no matter the cost. However, that had been several months ago. Now, the men were starting to grumble, complaining about the deep seas and seasickness. Many were considering disbanding once the ships landed on Seisyllwg territory. What they hadn't accounted for, however, was that they were going to be immediately put into battle once they landed. And here they were, slowly creeping up towards the settlement of Aberteifi. Arneth could see men swarming around the settlement, armed with spears and shields, ready to defend their home to the last. He shuddered. How had it come to this? Brother fighting brother, and fellow countrymen, once united, ready to kill each other for their kings. Still, this is what he had volunteered for, and he would carry out his duty without a second thought. Suddenly, the captain of their company, Duryyk, shouted, "Helmsman! Steer to the left! We're going to break down their walls!" There was a commotion among the men, some were panicking, others grumbling, but the majority of the axe company were quiet. Arneth spoke, "Under those towers? We'll be slaughtered!" "Aye! With all of us crowded at the gates, the enemy will have an easy time in picking us off!" shouted another axeman. "Most of the damage will be already done by our cavalry!" shouted Duryyk over the grumbling. "We'll be charging in with the KING!" Many of the men got quiet after that, including Arneth. He drew in a quick breath, watching while on the shore, the cavalry was breaking down the enemy gates, "Very well then, let's go. The king needs us." These words, while quiet was heard by everyone on the ship. The men started nodding, grunting in agreement, and taking up their axes. Soon, they were on the shore, charging across a small beach and crashing onto the walls of the enemy. Arneth hammered at the gate with all his might. Horses and men were screaming beside him, whether in pain or in war fervor, he did not know. Once the gates were down, it was Arneth who led the charge up the pathway and he was the first to crash into the enemy spears that were lined up, ready for the Welsh. A spearman jabbed at Arneth, which nearly gutted him had he not parried with his axe just in time. He then body-slammed the man, making him sprawl to the ground. Arneth swung his axe down on the man, and, with a final scream, the man was dead. Arneth then turned to his next opponent, and then the next, and sometimes, he had to fight off two or even three spears. A red haze flooded Arneth's vision as he cut men down left, right, and center. A man cried, "Where is the king going? He's leaving us!" "Who cares! Keep fighting!" Duryyk screamed back. However, the men were wavering. Around half of them were dead, and the spears outnumbered them. Some were even starting to rout. Then, a man shouted that reinforcements were coming, and soon, friendly cavalry had smashed into the rear ranks of the spears, causing them to rout. After a few more minutes of cleaning up the remaining survivors, the battle was over and the day was won.
Anxel Torrente who said he was a friend? I'm impressed a youtuber has taken any time at all to try and pronounce names correctly in my language... The only youtuber I have seen who has even attempted it.. You sir, are strange
I feel like I have an emotional attachment to Anaraut. When I played Gwined he lived till 80 and got to conquer all of Scotland and Ireland. Poor thing didn't live to see all of the isles unified. RIP Anaraut, you did well.
i think the best thing about being a TH-cam personality would be getting games early. BTW love your channel ive been a sub on my other channel for a long time. basically learned everything i know about total war from you.
To be fair they never did, the Normans (they sort of just merged with England) showed up and eventually did conquer Wales though (All be it for a short time in 1098). Damn French coming in at the end to take England + Wales after the Welsh began retaking land. The Welsh constantly faught back with revolts though until the 15th century when Henry Tudor became King as he had Welsh blood (his ancestors fought alongside Owain Glyndwr in his uprising earlier in the 15th century).
Wales was not conquered fully until Edward I built the Ring of Iron in the 13th Century, note that that is over a thousand years after the Romans landed on British Shores (they were never able to fully conquer Wales either). So in other words, it took over a thousand years to conquer a nation with a longer contiguous land Border with England than Scotland, and a population outnumbered 20:1 Many writers of the period described the Welsh as easy to defeat in battle, extremely difficult to defeat in War. Pitched battles were not their preferred method of fighting, they were far better in Geurilla style hit and run attacks using the terrain to their advantage. They simply did not have the men and materiel required to meet the English armies in the field the majority of the time. The Ring of Iron, one of the most intensive fortification building periods in European, let alone British History gives you an idea of just how difficult Edward I found it to conquer the Welsh, and keep them conquered.....
Lionheart with a successful cavalry charge? Impossible! lol In all seriousness, I am very impressed with what I've seen from Thrones of Britannia so far. It seems like there's a lot of depth to the game.
Love hearing tne welsh accsent on a total war game!! Living in auz this one is personal cant wait to play. Lionheart you did a very good job pronouncing !
Man this game looks slick and amazing. One of my favourite time periods in British history too (although a War of the Roses: TW would be the creme de la creme). Brilliant video and a series I'm looking forward too! Btw totally name an army after a Tom Jones song. Something tells me this series is somewhat appropriate for this
Fun fact, Wales is the country with the most castles in all of Europe. I’m from Caernarfon and in a 20 mile radios of my house there are least four different castles.
Most castles per square mile I think, rather than most outright. Some of those were the most advanced for their time as well, Harlech and Beaumaris spring to mind, the latter was never completed, its walls are only about 50% of the height they were planned to be, but its still an impressive castle. The fact it was not completed is probably the reason for it surviving the English Civil War, when so many others were 'slighted' (blown up basically!).
"When you recruit you only get about 48 men and they get replenished over a few turns" that's really nice, no more Ai instant armies after annihilating their last one.
I think a nice addition to difficulty in this game would be. In the diplomacy screen, it shouldn't tell you if your offer will be taken as an insult, intriguing, etc. So it wouldn't be as easy to secure easy trade, relations, etc.
TBH your pronunciation of most of the Welsh is acceptable, If I was speaking to you I could t show you the difference between DD in Welsh and TH in English, but they are a good enough match. LL is always hard for most Englishmen but if you almost role the L and extend it and exhale at the same time, you should be near enough. FF is just an F in English whilst a single F is a V in English. I also thought I'd put the correct spelling of Gwined, Gwynedd to make it easier to pronounce with Welsh in mind, just put less emphasis on the E and more on the DD amd it will sound more natural. IO starts a lot of Welsh names and just say it as EOR. Welsh is really easy once you learn the alphabet as most words are said how they look. Also put emphasis on any verbs that start or end a word, AberffrO.
Connor Kenyon When I first saw it a 'Gwined' I thought something was wrong with the spelling. I got the d off the bat, but just couldn't remember for the life of me what else was wrong. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the 'dd' in Welsh sounds more like the 'th' in 'the' rather than the 'th' in 'thing'?
Connor Kenyon yup CA, sound like they need help with their pronounciation guide. You would pronounce this faction by saying it like this 'gwyn-ed'. Being Welsh our alphabet and pronunciation is confusing as D on its own Is pronounced 'duh' and a Dd is pronounced 'vv' sounding like the start of the English word 'the' Without the e at end. Our Alphabet starts, A, B, C, D, Dd etc and sound nothing like the English equivalent. But for a non speaker you did well, and represented the son of Big Rhodri (Rhodri Mawr) well so all is forgiven. Oooo and Army name, would have to 'Plant am yr ddraig' (children of the dragon). Cymtu am byth, boes Bach!!!!!!
Gwined does appear to be one of the harder starts from what I’ve seen. Also, it seems that playing lip service to joining your ally’s war while sailing south to finish your mission first might have been more successful. But then again, maybe this will still work out well. I also find it a little funny that conflict with Mierce may end up making Guthred and Anaraut best friends.
I would suggest vassalizing foes that you beat into submission, if you can't take their last settlement. This will prevent your defensive allies from taking their settlements, which will contain their own power and increase yours.
Hell yes, last time i saw Wales in a game it was medieval total war. I know your playing as north wales and im from the south but Wales all the same. Cymru am byth!
The P to B and the others always confused me hence why I got a D in my Welsh exam xD (that and the fact my teacher taught Welsh in Welsh with no explanation in English)
i find it odd that aberfraw is the settlement on anglesey. its not even a big town today. maybe i need to look up how old some of these towns are, like the one i live in
Army name: the Bane of Cair Avaghn, or possibly The Gwenid Eisteddfod National Tour, 879. (7:35 -- A dry day on the first roll? In Wales? What ahistorical nonsense is this? Creative Assembly plz fix)
From what I've seen of this game, non-walled settlements are key to food, so Powis' taking all the hamlets is really screwing you in that department, you need to counterpunch quickly to get all the hamlets back from them
Yay! As a passionate Welshman myself, this series is going to be a favourite and I know it! (Just a side note, Gwynedd the "dd" is a hard "th" like the the word "the") 😊 Can't wait for the rest! Cymru am byth!
4 tips for Gwined Campaign beginning 1. Choose a statesman who has good command (if he has bowman, spearman ,axeman, swordman, horseman, much better), adopt him and make him become heir, raise an army from him , the upkeep is 50%。 2. Keep public order of each provice higher than -5 , there is very little chance revolt will occur, so you may tax +25% or even +50%。 3. Use 2 armies as your main force to fight each battle, so generals can gain experience at the same time. Raise 2 armies with only 1 general and 1 spearman to take minor settlements and run off enemy single general. 4. Iarmuma province's capital( a province in SouthWest Ireland) has monastery , capture it and upgrade monastery , so you may research civil tech to speed up you research.
Everyone wants the army to be named The Red Dragons - Yr Ddraigau Coch I like how that's always the name we go to lmao. At 14:50 cair is pronounce kairh and Mirddin would be Me-rh-thin I in Welsh is pronounced E also Dd sounds like the "Th" part in the word "the" anyway nowadays its called Caerfyrddyn or Carmarthen in English as for nearby Dinefwr (din-eh-foor). Its a place I go metal detecting though I haven't found anything too old there some guys did find some Roman coins years ago though.
Hey! Thanks for making this great content for us to watch. I cant afford any total war games rn (my friend told me about this game but too much money for me LOL) but thanks for letting me experience this game through you. Subbed and liked.

I always wanted to know, how Welsh palaces used to be, before castles came to existence.
Like, the palace of Rhodri the Great.
Recruitment in Lionhearts army:
“You have been selected for the twelfth cavalry”
“Excellent, who is my commander?”
“Lionheart”
“Oh bugger...”

Fun fact for nerds; Lord of the Rings language, Sindarin, is based on Welsh. That is why some of the names sound similar and familiar.

Nice to see my humble little country getting some gaming love! ❤️
"When you recruit you only get about 48 men and they get replenished over a few turns" that's really nice, no more Ai instant armies after annihilating their last one.
Can’t wait for a Game of Thrones overhaul mod
Which House ?
Army name:
The Sheep Shaggers
I know I know, it's just too easy...
Thomas Newitt who proceeded to sell said Sheep to the nearest Englishman with special welsh sauce included. 😂
Nada Barton my god we're a sucker for that secret sauce...
You mispelt your own name, Dimwit. Don't embarrass yourself further.
When you discover that the English shagged sheep to stop the welsh from stealing them.
man oh man am I happy to see this! I've been watching you since I was like 15 thanks for always making such great videos
Actually watching this in the first min out... cool! Excited for the series and keep it up!
whoever made that art design, is a fucking badass.. those animated event pictures look so wonderful..
lol 40:44, Wish I could just jog through fences like they were nothing XD!
I think a nice addition to difficulty in this game would be. In the diplomacy screen, it shouldn't tell you if your offer will be taken as an insult, intriguing, etc. So it wouldn't be as easy to secure easy trade, relations, etc.
Finally a letsplay of my home land!
41:59 - Did anyone else hear a PREDATOR in the background?????
Dave Smith good call I hear it
TBH your pronunciation of most of the Welsh is acceptable, If I was speaking to you I could t show you the difference between DD in Welsh and TH in English, but they are a good enough match.
Connor Kenyon
When I first saw it a 'Gwined' I thought something was wrong with the spelling. I got the d off the bat, but just couldn't remember for the life of me what else was wrong. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the 'dd' in Welsh sounds more like the 'th' in 'the' rather than the 'th' in 'thing'?
Tom Laptain Yes! That's a great way to explain DD.
Our
Alphabet starts, A, B, C, D, Dd etc and sound nothing like the English equivalent. But for a non speaker you did well, and represented the son of Big Rhodri (Rhodri Mawr) well so all is forgiven. Oooo and Army name, would have to 'Plant am yr ddraig' (children of the dragon). Cymtu am byth, boes Bach!!!!!!
The double L how I would describe the pronunciation of it is try to use an s, w, and L all at the same time. As a result you get a similar sound
The welsh will rise
Once again I return to my favorite total war player ! Thanks for what you do !
" heres meee Anaraut, heres meee whacking the difficulty weellll uuuup! ", that new IGN unofficial commentator
you can take our lives but you can never take our sheep
Excellent content again dude, love watching you play total war. Can’t wait for this to come out 😬
Gwined does appear to be one of the harder starts from what I’ve seen. Also, it seems that playing lip service to joining your ally’s war while sailing south to finish your mission first might have been more successful. But then again, maybe this will still work out well. I also find it a little funny that conflict with Mierce may end up making Guthred and Anaraut best friends.
i keep falling behind on lionheart videos and then the amount of videos becomes rlly daunting. Heres to hoping i keep up with this one!
I would suggest vassalizing foes that you beat into submission, if you can't take their last settlement. This will prevent your defensive allies from taking their settlements, which will contain their own power and increase yours.
Love your work Lionheart and already loving this series!
Army name: The last dragon legion
This video wrecked my already crappy sleep schedule
Welsh for The red dragon
Y Ddraig Goch! For an army name?
George Ap Gwalia is that a DXD reference
No, The Red Dragon is Welsh. It's on our flag....DxD used our Dragon.
Xordania
Is DxD = Dungeons and Dragons?
Hell yes, last time i saw Wales in a game it was medieval total war. I know your playing as north wales and im from the south but Wales all the same. Cymru am byth!
Army Name : "Y Pen Ddraig's Tân"
Means The Pendragon's Fire.
The head dragons fire* but it should be "Tân yr Penddraig"
Sam Woods Tân y Benddraig
The P to B and the others always confused me hence why I got a D in my Welsh exam xD (that and the fact my teacher taught Welsh in Welsh with no explanation in English)
I love that Bardr of Dyflin is a Drama Queen
The city details damn this game is already amazing
i find it odd that aberfraw is the settlement on anglesey. its not even a big town today. maybe i need to look up how old some of these towns are, like the one i live in
The battle, the city, the speech of the units, the theme songs ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Im glad i found you lol by your empire total war series 3 years ago you were talking about 10k subs now your 293k subs nice job man
A siege with more than 1 wall?! SORCERY!
Army name: the Bane of Cair Avaghn, or possibly The Gwenid Eisteddfod National Tour, 879.
(7:35 -- A dry day on the first roll? In Wales? What ahistorical nonsense is this? Creative Assembly plz fix)
harbl99
I thought exactly that when I saw it was dry. I was shocked.
Idea for your first army's name: "Blood of the Dragon" Both Welsh and a nice GoT reference as well ... Cymru am byth!
Loving the soundtrack
Army suggestion: Bob Bradley's Bashers.
If you understand the reference you're a great person.
not watched your channel for two years god i missed this
From what I've seen of this game, non-walled settlements are key to food, so Powis' taking all the hamlets is really screwing you in that department, you need to counterpunch quickly to get all the hamlets back from them
"The white death" keeps part of original name but still badass
first part enters in non agression with several viking factions while being an englishmen cant wait to see what sessux says about that
This is my favorite game ever!
oh noez, Mercia is rolling down the Ariva train line.
"Dannedd Y Ddraig Goch" meaning "Teeth of the Red Dragon" a fitting name for the dragons army.
Yay! As a passionate Welshman myself, this series is going to be a favourite and I know it! (Just a side note, Gwynedd the "dd" is a hard "th" like the the word "the") 😊 Can't wait for the rest! Cymru am byth!
Aberffro is pronounced "ah-bare-fraw" (f like the word "fan")
Anaraut is like "Anna-right"
Caer Mirddin is like "Kai-r Mir-thin" with a hard "th" (Welsh for Merlin's Fortress I believe and modern day Caerfyrddin/Carmarthen.)
All these pronunciation guides are based on modern Welsh as a native speaker rather than Old Welsh.
I dont even play total war but this was so enjoyable to watch my home land being played on
4 tips for Gwined Campaign beginning
1. Choose a statesman who has good command (if he has bowman, spearman ,axeman, swordman, horseman, much better), adopt him and make him become heir, raise an army from him , the upkeep is 50%。
2. Keep public order of each provice higher than -5 , there is very little chance revolt will occur, so you may tax +25% or even +50%。
Love his game played it at EGX :D im glad they got proper welsh actors :) never felt so proud playing the welsh :) for Rhodri !
First historical Total War since Shogun 2 that looks really fun to me! I mean, sure Rome 2 and Attila were good, but this looks much better!
THE WELSH ARE COMING! THE WELSH ARE COMING!!!!! 😨😨😨
chocolate biscuit a famous quote from lionheart
lionheart love your vids keep it up i enjoy wtching your lets plays everyday
Cant wait for blood mod for this game
Finally something gives recognition to Wales
also it looks like their is a bit more of a correct path finding sort of for the siege battles.
They should be named The Red Sheild, as in the blood of the fallen and the sheild of the Welsh. Like to see more you earned my sub :D
i mean pretty straight forwards names for amries; dragons tooth, dragons claw, dragons breath, plaid cymru and in the valleys
Thank you for doing Wales!!!
I can't wait for this and more!!!
I only just discovered your channel aaaaaaand, I subbed! Because you made me laugh. Good episode!
Its a place I go metal detecting though I haven't found anything too old there some guys did find some Roman coins years ago though.
i swear this game makes me wanna say "pound the earth!" everytime i get into a fight
May 3rd! Still Waiting! I'M SOOOOOO Excited for the tournament and this game!
Hey! Thanks for making this great content for us to watch. I cant afford any total war games rn (my friend told me about this game but too much money for me LOL) but thanks for letting me experience this game through you. Subbed and liked.
