    I actually liked the before also, even though it's not really my style. This house was so clean and uncluttered. I love it both before and after! And the couple seem so nice, and willing to do what they need to do to sell it.

      Actually don't think it didn't sell because of house, but because of the owners outfits and styles personally. I bet if they both changed into less dramatic outfits it be a really different story or were never seen use real estate agent only.

    Among all the videos in the series, this is the first time I was thinking, "What's wrong with the original house?"
    I guess our home style has changed since 2008. If we strip off the red, we'll get used with monochromatic color like minimalistic style nowadays has.

      I think the main thing was the 'harsh' impression. The kitchen Reno was probably the best one, and maybe painting the walls. But lots of plants, and adding some neutral colors to soften the bold would have done the trick.

    I can't for the life of me see anything wrong with the original, other than the reds and the lack of prep space in kitchen...

    This reminds me of our decor in 1969! Honestly, it was wonderful, stylish, easy to keep clean. 50 some years later, I honestly wish we could have it again! I am so sorry these zippy young people couldn't sell their house with their own stylish decor. I love it!

    This is the episode that really dates the series. In 2008 people wanted sage and mocha. In the intervening years, gray is all the rage. We've just changed one "neutral" for another. Watching in 2021, I feel that all they needed to do was soften the black-white-red slightly and fix the cramped kitchen. The "example" kitchen was country and blue with 80s cabinets - today, people would run away screaming. Then they were shown a country and red dining room, which Sophie has criticised often. So this particular episode is quite comical in 2021.

    That house is actually not bad, except the kitchen, probably that's the reason it's not sold. It's not even a kitchen it's a pantry.

  • @markjsound

    The house she took them to for an example was horrible. Generic furniture, laminate countertops, and a giant dish cabinet in a blood red dining room? Where in the world do buyers prefer that?

    I bought a historic house that the previous owners were making contemporary with remodeling and decor. Didn’t fit the property at all. We were able to see past what they had done and knew it had a ton a potential to make into our dream house. There were no neutral colors, bathroom was pea green, wall papered with ducks and whales….yet we still bought it immediately. I don’t get all theses”people can’t see past it”!

    I can't understand why there were unable to sell a house. It seemed cleaned, well-maintained and nicely decorated. It is one of few houses that regardless of small kids living there is clean and declutter. Kitchen was small but come on! A mother of two is fine. I am European and maybe this is why I don't understand why Americans need gargantuan kitchens.

  • @sharonkinsella7435
    @sharonkinsella7435 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This one struck a wrong note for me. The idea of the couple being "different" was overplayed. They're lovely and open minded, with a unique but certainly not wild style, and their house was beautiful and well taken care of. The constant statements about their less sophisticated style were offbase; their style was actually more sophisticated, not less. The kitchen improvements were nice though. Maybe a smaller fridge would have opened it up a bit more too? Regardless, I hope this couple is still out there expressing their own style somewhere today!

    The cracked driveway is a problem. It's something that buyers could potentially spend a couple of thousand dollars on, depending upon how they repair it. Before we sold our house, we repaired the driveway and several people commented that other driveways in the area looked like they were crumbling, but ours looked new. Houses in the neighborhood were approximately 25 years old at the time, so it was no surprise that many of the driveways were crumbling. At my parents' house, which was 10 years older than ours, loose bricks in the stairs created a hazard. My parents had the stairs repaired and the rail replaced and it made a big difference.

    I agree about not enough room in kitchen, but the rest is okay any thing needed done is just the buyers preference ? The comparable house is bland !!! Paint color in dining room ??
    Their house is bright !! Other place is uninspiring !!
    One thought is not everyone wants a pool ? The upkeep is expensive , first time homeowners might not want that expense !!

    The designer was way off on this one. She showed a near by house that was more cluttered and 90’s style with red walls, the grey walls are in everywhere now. She had no vision. Outside did need new curb appeal.

    • @fannycraddock99
      @fannycraddock99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      13 years ago grey walls were not in vogue unless you had great taste. I agree that the '90's house with the red walls was awful even 13 years ago and would be a complete no no today.
