You're definitely right. It took a coat of primer and three coats of a high quality paint to cover a bright red bathroom that was in my house. I cringe now every time I see red on the walls of a house.

I love that Marylou said, "I went with classic craftsman colors.", no... just nope. Classic craftsman colors were, sage, mustard, cream, brick red, robin's egg blue, and white... None of which were what she chose.

If it’s original craftsman trim and it’s undamaged, you ruin the value by painting over it. I have stripped quite a few pieces of painted trim. It’s pricey and it does damage the trim a bit.

I especially love that they kept the bright blue in the second bedroom. The breakfast shelf and computer area downstairs is great. Even tho I like brighter colours, the yellow didnt go with the kitchen cupboards so its nice that it got toned down a bit. The master bedroom looks a bit bland. It could have done with a splash of colour like a set of small bright pillows on the bed. Very nice altogether :) It hopefully will sell quickly!

It will sell better now with the changes. That's real estate for you. But I didn't mind the original colors, although I'd have probably better enjoyed a toned down version of each. I agree with the homeowners in that some color on the walls look great in this era of home. It was a good idea to create the new blue bedroom, although I'd have used a not so bold shade of blue.

It's REAL! My sister and BIL were investors - buy, fix up, rent for a while and then resell when the market was better - we had two memorable houses. The "Dr Seuss house" was ALL primary colors. The "Depressed House" had battleship grey living room and Pepto Bismol pink and depressing blue bedrooms. Even the handyman didn't want to stay in there and work.
Nothing a few hours and some 5-gallon buckets of Hi-Hide white tinted to "Swiss Coffee" couldn't fix but the repellent effect of colors is real.

Why oh why would you ruin lovely wood trim by painting it? It just looks cheap when you do that. Certainly it is an easy, quick, and inexpensive way to decorate but styles change over time and stripping the paint back off when it is no longer in fashion will require a lot more effort than decorating around the beautiful wood trim in the first place. A real estate professional might suggest painting trim because they are after a quick sale. However, to me it devalues the house.

I would make an offer on this house with the cost of a new kitchen/ bath figured in. New hardware and a little polyurethane are not going to cut it. I am surprised potential buyers don't make a low offer with the thought of rolling up their sleeves and maker it their own home.

Realtor should have told them pre listing to paint it white.

Marylou's expression at the very end, to me, is one of longing for what could have been. I suspect their new home, and perhaps her condo office too, will be transformed into a calm oasis as their now former home became.
I'm seeing a twist on the sweet Disney animation Cinderella. Fairy Godmother stands in the dining room with her magic wand singing,
    ⚡Bippitty Boppitty Boo
    ☀With loving magic
    ⚡I transform You!
    (and POOF it is so)

There is a beautiful medium vibrant blue that was kept or in other words not painted over. This is near the exact color I painted our office. As I watched this video from the beginning, I wondered if my color choice would get the ax. A great color is a great color. Good, they had the discernment to keep the blue.

White paint is nice. Lite blue color in kitchen... not soo nice. White cabinet pulls on kitchen cabinets look cheap for home priced at $549K. Like the office but could have installed cabinet doors to make it look more custom. Especially since it's 1st room buyers see.

We bought a condo at a great price because a colour blind man had decorated. I’m not even joking. He was colourblind. He told me. The colours he had chosen were bubblegum pink and canary yellow !

yes the result is better but pleaaase don t call it slime green anymore...you could have said...I understand that you like it green it looks good matching your red hair...but the next owners are most likely not redheads therefor the color needs to be changed for the next owner...otherwise the springgreen looked like fun but it s time to prepare the house for the next person to life in...that would have been much nicer than calling her taste slimegreen.

The general plan is good .The green was too much, but NO color is boring. The clay color on the walls looks dead to me. The kitchen looks sad and the livingroom looks cold and unimaginative. For some reason, the light from the windows isn' t translating into the room. It needs a soft warm color on the walls.. As it is, the only "life" in the room is the art over the fireplace. I would bring a balance of color at least, in throw pillows on the couch and into the rug.
