Strip Piecing with Scraps! The Beautiful Descending Blocks Pattern.

  • This quilt pattern was originally made to be a doll quilt. It is the perfect size for a table topper though. I use fairly flat batting so that I can put "decor" on it. I hope you will dig through your scraps (or yardage) and spend an afternoon playing in your fabric for the joy of it!

    I love this.. and thank you for validating my style of quilting..... i'm in this world to find the joy... not be judged or be judgy.... Your work is fun... would love to see you doing the FMQ as you did on this little quilt... the wavy echos!

      I like the quilts that are meant to be used and made from old clothes. But I also like the geometric ones on quilt book covers lol. I guess I'm trying to say it should have character, like a house should look lived in and homey, not pristine like a museum

    Thank you so much for another great (and fun) video that gives us permission to just have fun and don't worry about being "perfect". I like that you don't apologize if you need to "fudge" (like on your borders) and just keep going. I love the border because it adds so much interest. Can't wait to see what you do next. You are so inspirational to me :)

    • @merrymabelmarket

      Yes - absolutely. You can even use bigger squares. Just draw up a pattern and size it. You could put it together in sections until it is the size you want it.

  • @kathleenmayhorne3183
    @kathleenmayhorne3183 ปีที่แล้ว

    So why use 17 colours but not 17 strips? I like the idea of bonus piecing instead of just using the same bit over. Why not use the other set to chain piece, instead of using a thread saver at all. That horse saying is a traditional phrase, from centuries ago possibly. My sister likes to say, it's not rocket science.

    • @kathleenmayhorne3183
      @kathleenmayhorne3183 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do pieced cornerstones or sashing for a quilt as leaders and enders, and get them all done at once? You can do 4-patches from odd squares, for bonus quilts as you go?

    WHere you have 2 strip sets, instead of using the thread saver scrap at the end of each strip sewn, I would start with it, then sew the first set, then continue onto the second set and back to the first set and not use the thread saver scrap until the very end of sewing the sets.

      The little crystal pin pot is a container (shaped like a wheelbarrow) that my mother bought me years ago. I just use pins in a way that I put them in there with the heads up. I know it is an odd way to keep pins, but it has worked for me for years. I like to use a LOT of pins (when I use them).
      I will write a blog post about them and post it next Friday. So you can look on our website and see a close up picture after that time.

      I think you mean the cotton on my ironing big board? You can see all about it here: studio.th-cam.com/users/videoc-JES6cVTR4/edit
      Around eight minutes and fifty seconds in - I show all about my big board.

      @merrymabelmarket Thank you! I am learning so.much.stuff as I watch through your videos! Hate to think about how much TH-cam time, but it has been so valuable. I started your pajama quilting videos on your website this afternoon. 😊
