I just love your relaxed attitude about things. It's so refreshing! I don't have a favorite tool unless it's just my cutting mat and rotary cutter. I began quilting when we were still using templates and hand cutting everything. Quilting has come a long way. At the same time, I think too many pursue perfection and forget that most quilts are to be used and loved. At least that's how I view quilts. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, skill and creativity.
The big board is also my #1 fave. Thread holder is great, and I have most of your other tools but I might have to try the scissors. Thanks so much for your advice!
You can use non Martelli blades. The unnotched center blades (round hole) would not go against their warning. How’s I have used the notched too. Love my Stripology ruler and the 45mm Martelli works well with it. Your iPhone was perfect. I have a pneumatic gun so recovering is a breeze. Thanks for sharing
I made a large rectangular ironing board cover about the size of yours. Can't live without it! Last week Michael's had a 50% sale off all storage. I bought 3 modular towers consisting of shelving. I ditched the ironing board frame and placed the board over the top. We had customed the board with 2x2's to fit the frame. It was a minor adjustment to make it fit the measurements of the 3 cabinets. Awesome amount of storage that freed up room in my sewing closet that was out of control😂
Your video is awesome. Thanks for sharing your tips. Sewing 55 years, and quilting about 10…self taught. LOVE🥰 quilting, bag making, making kitchen items, & working with repurposed jeans. I’ll be visiting my local quilt shops to see what I can pick up.
It's 3am and instead of watching a movie I'm looking at quilting videos! Anyhoo, the wooden thread stand can be made from a paper towel holder just add a cup hook for the thread on the tall post. I don't use a thread stand. I just put the thread cone in a coffee mug and set it behind the sewing machine over towards the right near the balance wheel.
This going to sound weird, but I LOVE my batting scissors. I didn't have them today when I needed them and really missed how much easier it is to cut batting with them.
@@nursevanhelsing4413 They are quite long and the tips are blunt so they glide smoothly along the batting. If you do a google search for "batting scissors" you should see photos of the unique shape!
I'm a big fan of KAI scissors too!!!!!! I have 2 pairs.... Hey!!! What about your sewing machine you use when filming....why not talk about it and tell us all about the fun reasons you love it!!!!!❤
I use packing tape as well. And there’s always a book in my ear. I buy my irons at the local thrift store. Top brands. I paid $6 and $8 for the last two. Going to find that fancy cutter, have my woodworking nephew make 2 spool/thread holders and I will make your ironing board. My favorite batting is Warm and Natural. What’s yours? Bless you for all these recommendations.
The top two for me are non-negotiable & the only things I bring to a sewing day with my sewing machine. Thread snips - Strongly prefer the Gingher ones that have a spring action & a cover Clover ergonomic seam ripper. The last four are from the pile of "find what works for you." Ergonomic Olfa rotary cutter (the one that closes the blade itself) - it works for me so no need to try the heavy one, etc, weird to include but after trying a couple other brands I strongly prefer cutting mats by Olfa or Omnigrid. Another weird one, Creative Grids brand rulers - I grabbed "what the store had" because I needed a bigger square - its numbered weirdly... scissors - I buy Karen Kay Buckley brand scissors, I like how the handles feel in my hands.
I love the board idea! My sewing space is small and usually use my ironing board to cut fabric too. The june tailor template has caught my eye at walmart for months but am not sure how to use it correctly yet. Thanks for this video- I got some great ideas from it!
My mom and I have a craft table that folds down to get it out of the way, and there is an ironable cover for it you can buy. It has the grid printed on it too
I have a kai pressure sensitive rotary cutter that i love. But i may try a martelli. I really appreciate your honesty. Doesnt make me feel inferior by not owning all the fancy name brand quilters tools!
APQS Millenium. It's my 3rd one in my life. I just love it. Owned the first one for 18 years and quilted SO MANY quilts on it. 2nd one was great - I sold it to a friend when I moved across the country. This 3rd one was purchased this year. So far, so good.
I wanted to try the Kai scissors, but, when I checked on Amazon, there were lots and lots of them! Could you please tell which ones you like, the small and the large? There is a multipurpose small that looks like your small pair, but I’m not sure about the large pair. Are they multipurpose or a specialty type of Kai? I hate to worry you. Thanks for your help. Pat Berne
WOW - I just went checking and there are a LOT of Kai scissors out there that I might need!! My husband helped me order the first time, and I think I didn't realize!! Tee hee - now I need more!! The ones I own are: Dressmaking Shears V5210 Also - V5165 Both have the pink handles. (Almost red pink) I love them both! The little scissors are good too. Probably can't go wrong with any scissors that look good to you!
Hi Dawn. Thank you for filming. I love your big board and have sourced a Martelli cutter! 😉 I've started using clappers when ironing multi-seam blocks. They really make a difference. ⚘️
I too love my big board, I got mine at a quilt show and hauled it home, put it on my old ironing board and couldn’t believe I had waited so long to get it. Worth every penny. That small KAI scissors has been in my Amazon cart for months, so maybe it’s time to pull the trigger😊
Oh one of my favorite things is a piece of solid wood molding from Home Depot that I had cut to 24”…its flat on one side and rounded on the other and I use it for setting seams, etc. I also use wooden spoons or wooden flat spatulas too…I also use and love my spinning acrylic round tray that I bought from office supply section of Walmart (Home goods have them too…the ones they use for makeup brushes) that I use for all my sewing tools, pens, etc…all I did was put felt at bottom for center big area that scissors and bigger things go into and cut up a brush base rubber set from $1 store to place other smaller seam rippers and gadgets.
Not local to me. My favorite quilt shop is "Quilts, Quilts, Quilts" in Utah (SLC area). It is across the street from itself (two buildings) and there is handwork with wool, plus LOADS of amazing 100% cotton.
Can you use any kind of rotary cutter with the June T shape cutter or would you recommend the Martelli as the easiest to use with it? Thanks. Pat Berne

I love my Kai scissors as well. And I need the ironing board thing!! My husband retired a couple of months ago. I will add it on to his "list"
Now I know for sure you’re my favorite. I thought I was the only person who talked to my fabric.
And I could sing the praises of Kai scissors all day.
Kai's are the best!
The big board is also my #1 fave. Thread holder is great, and I have most of your other tools but I might have to try the scissors.
Thanks so much for your advice!
Go for it!

What brand of non-Martello blades would you suggest?
I couldn’t live without my Stripology
I totally want to try the scissors! Thanks for the video ❤
I heard that Best Press even works if diluted 1:1!
Ooh, I want that ruler holder. I have a big pressing board as well that I made and love it. Thanks for sharing
I bought it in a quilt shop in Utah. That is all I know about it.

I’m with you about the iron. I use a Russel Hobbs ordinary iron. It’s awesome
Fab. Thanks for doing this video. Lovely as i am just starting @ 71.5 yrs
Wonderful!

What are batting scissors

Best price for Kai ...I bought mine at a quilt
show called Sewing Expo in Michigan a few years ago.
Chesapeake Quilt Maker on etsy had a similar ruler holder. Love mine.
I love, love, love, the ironing board idea!!! Thanks for sharing.
So glad!
Hi!! Fat Quarter Shop carries the blades and the rotary cutter!
KAI SCISSORS.....YES! They are perfection!....well balanced in the hand, micro-serrated, inexpensive! My Fiskars are now relegated to paper cutting.
You totally made me laugh!! We agree!!
I'm a big fan of KAI scissors too!!!!!! I have 2 pairs....
Hey!!! What about your sewing machine you use when filming....why not talk about it and tell us all about the fun reasons you love it!!!!!❤
My longarm and my sewing machine felt too obvious. And honestly - I could have named forty favorite things!!
Great video, thank you!
That Best Press demo was magical!
I had never seen it works it’s magic!
I use packing tape as well.

I especially love Quilter's Dream battings. I hope you love all of your new stuff!
You collect scissors like my nan collects cats 🤭
Ha...ha...ha.... The advantage is that scissors don't shed.
“I have more than one quilting room” oh boy!!
Yep. LOL

The thread holder with a large spool of thread was almost like a gift to myself.
loved that big board too
What size of Martelli rotary cutter 45mm or 60mm?
The one I use is 45 mm,
In need the large thing for holding all my rulers.
Yes!! Everyone needs one!
I kept the video to don't forget the mesure of you ironing board! Thanks.
Excellent, soooo many great ideas , especially the ironing board , thankyou
Kai scissors are my favorites too. But my favorite Kai scissors are the ones with serrated blades. *swoon*
I have a kai pressure sensitive rotary cutter that i love. But i may try a martelli. I really appreciate your honesty. Doesnt make me feel inferior by not owning all the fancy name brand quilters tools!
I love your ironing board topper idea too!
Everyone needs a big board!!
Lol. Ready for combat. I thought i was bad.
I love your tutorials. They’re happy and inspiring with great ideas. I’m just wishing you had more.
More coming. Tee hee...
I love my Martelli cutter but I buy the Martelli rulers to go with it and it works better for me.
Packing tape is called Magic Grandma Tape at my house-mini “laminating projects, book repair…
Funny...
Scrub daddys work well for removing lint and threads from any surface! Wirk well on ironing mats and wool even.
A friend made me one. Sweet of her!
Love Kai and there cutting mats last forever.
Hi, I just started watching you, can you let us know what is the make and model of your Long Arm

Thank you for your comments!
I want that June Tailor!😅
I really enjoy my euro pro iron. It is a little heavier than the others but the steam is what i like. Uses tap water. It is wonderful.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing your preferences. 👍🏻
My pleasure!
100% about iron!
I love your thread holder!
