  • It’s known notoriously that the Honda Monkey Luggage Racks you find on the internet are poor when it comes to the overall weight they can ultimately carry!
I’ve been on a quest recently to try and find a decent rack without breaking the bank to which I’ve been unsuccessful! Instead I’ve decided to work with what I’ve got and re-invent this rack and strengthen it to its max!
This is easily the cheapest and easiest option I believe! Give it a try!

Could grind a flat where the rear lights almost touch, just a few mil off the threaded bar.

Honestly the rods are just touching the chrome plastic of the lights so I’m not too worried. I’d rather not take anything away from my new found strength haha

@@Topboy_Jonny will still move under load and road conditions, the chrome lights are plastic, with it being threaded i just wonder if it will act like a saw and file it down over time.

@@Thegeordiemonkey the only way this rack will move is towards the ground. The bracket it uses to fix to the bike is quite solid and the only way it will flex upwards is if something underneath hits it upwards.
However, you have given me an idea to wrap the rods. Just need to find a decent material to do it really instead of insulation or gaffa tape haha

The only heavy duty rack made is made in the US By T-Rex racing but appears it would not work with the tail light assembly on your model Monkey

Just seen your other comment and I’ve had a look at the trex rack and it still doesn’t look to have the correct braces that I would expect. Adding this threaded rod really did nail the job

I was thinking of getting a rack for my monkey.the flat black one had too much spring to it? Not strong enough? Yet you beefed up the chrome one

The black rack I picked up off FB marketplace is honestly alright for day to day stuff. It held the top box fine and I had no worries using it for that and it’s well made.
However, this chrome rack is heavier to say the pipework is smaller and it didn’t have as much flex when it was fitted on the bike compared to the black one. One other defining factor was the design, the black rack doesn’t have a bar going across the middle of the supporting columns unlike the chrome (it was a flat piece of metal) so there was nowhere to attach the clips. Chrome rack was the best choice

Should probably of added that yes it had too much flex and it wouldn’t support the weight I require it to

@@Topboy_Jonny thank you,the chrome looks nice but I dont like the round pipes, prefer a flat rack with lots of attachment areas.kind of like a molly pack.if I add a milk crate,it would slide on chrome bars I think. Jujitsu2000 has a flat rack on his, think it came from a bike racing place

@@conniewaite1371 definitely get what's right for you. The problem i've had with the honda monkey luggage racks is that they're not wide enough so my bags kind of droop over the edges... good luck finding one!

35kg on the back of a motorcycle weighing 105kg 😮my Honda NT 1100 has a weight limit of 10kg on the rear rack Honda warn in the manual this must not be exceeded all I can say is sooner you then me !

think it’ll make me do a wheely haha? In all honesty it’s not going to be 30+Kg I’ve packed my bags up and it’s coming in at 15kg. A lot of the weight limits are to do with the strength of the rack, as you can see it held all 80kg of me.
