  • Safiyyah Cotton makes $7.50 an hour working at McDonald's. So how does she stretch her budget? With a lot of help from the government. Here's a look inside the life and budget of a low-wage worker.

LOL, well ... birth control, abstinence, sex without intercourse, and abortion ..can all "happen" before the 3rd trimester of pregnancy .. there is no justifiable excuse for being such a poor provider for a child. • @GreenGretel
      @GreenGretel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      That doesn't work. State-level politicians receive relatively low pay (not minimum wage level of course), but all that has lead to is their ranks being filled with rich businessman who can afford to do legislating as a sort of hobby and often fundraise their own campaigns (and make laws that suit the interests of themselves at the expense of the rest of us). You need publicly financed elections and a fundamental overhaul of the lobbying/legalized bribery that dominates the political process to get real change. Constitutional amendment-level overhaul because the corporatist Supreme Court justices were literally appointed _because_ of their willingness to enable/legitimize the bribery, so they'll gut most federal laws meant to change things.

    The saddest part is that this was 6 years ago and nothing has changed regarding minimum wage (I know it’s been like this longer just talking about since this video was made). There’s not a “labor shortage” in 2021, there’s a shortage of people who want to live like this! Don’t let these big corporations fool you. Don’t judge people who are on govt benefits either. Even with that help, the struggle is clearly still real.

    This woman chooses to get pregnant with a dead beat whose in jail, and is complaining about her living situation? Sorry, you made your bed, now you gotta sleep it. And before you attack me, saying I'm a privileged white man... Listen to this.
    Grew up dirt poor. Had no one but my parents. Both my parents worked retail jobs at the mall. They always told me to study hard and stay in school, to stay away from drugs and make friends with the right people. I listened to EVERYTHING they told, and I'm glad I did.
    When I got old enough, I started working to help my parents out with bills. We couldn't afford a car, so we took the bus everywhere. I used to stay up until 3a.m doing homework and sleep about 4 hours. High school was hell for me, but I was the first in my family to graduate.
    Couldn't afford university, so I went to my local community college. Fell in love with Biology and decided to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse. Took me 5 - almost 6 years to complete my Associates Degree because I had to work 2 jobs just to support myself and my parents. Now, after 26 years of busting my ass, it's all paid off.
    Currently a Registered Nurse, making close to 70k a year. Saving money to attend university and complete my BS to further my career. Nothing was handed to me. I worked my ass off for everything.
    It pisses me off when people like this woman here, who makes all these shitty choices, then expect other hard working people to help them out because they're too damn lazy to get an education. I grew up with nothing. Now look at me. I started from the bottom. You make the bed you sleep in. Listen to parents. Stay in school. Don't have kids until you have a career. And don't expect people to hand you anything.

      Everyone saying that it is for a student is primarily incorrect. The video in it's self disproves this, as it states what working minimum wage will provide 6,000 a year, and that is full time. Of course college students aren't working full time; they have school as well. Furthermore, who do you think is working weekday mornings? Clearly not college students, because that is when their classes are happening. Minimum wage jobs are for those who are not presented with the opportunities (i.e. college) that the more privileged, upper class citizens receive. The phenomenon is called a 'poverty cycle' and it has 15% of Americas trapped in it. So, the statement that minimum wage jobs are for college students is wrong, and I don't mean this comment in a confrontational way, just to inform.

    It's up to the government to increase minimum wage. In Australia, our minimum wage, for a 22 year old and older, is USD$15 if you are part-time/full time which includes paid leave, sick leave and guaranteed number of hours per week, or USD$20 if you are a casual employee. Both include a bonus 10% on whatever you earn which goes towards your retirement fund. This is all legislation. It's up to the government. Why would McDonalds want to voluntarily pay more money!? They don't gaf about their employees. McDonalds is a business. They want to earn as much profit as possible.

      hi. triggered special snowflake feminazi libtard here. Can you please tell me why bringing a child into a live where they're basically guaranteed to be impoverished and to live a bad life is a better option then not bringing them into the world at all? You're probably gonna say something about using a condom. First of all, teens are irresponsible and stupid. Sex is mostly done for pleasure. I bet a lot of people say things along the lines of "Oh, I'm too big for a condom", or "it doesn't feel good with it on". And your killing babies argument. Elighten me, and inform me on how vacuuming a clump of cells (the average abortion is at 12 weeks gestation. at this point, the baby/fetus is about the size of a LIME), is equivalent to murdering a birthed baby? The only abortion methods that you've heard of is probably the coat hanger method, or bleach down the hole. And not only that the baby is the size of a lime, it doesn't have a brain. It literally cannot think. But whatever. Go off.

      minimum wage is for kids going to college until they are done and are able to get a better job , it is not ment to raise a family , this is why we must show our kids that they need to better them selves before starting a family , be able to pay for child care , food , rent , and insurance , if not you fall into this type of situation on foodstamps housing assistance childs assistance , and once you fall in its is one of the hardest things to come out of it could take generations or never happen, but the youth doesnt listen as didnt i and had to learned the hard way ,
