Sob story incoming. My grandfather was a tinkerer just like you. He raced pikes peak, did formula Ford, shifter karts, etc. I'm 18 now, but By the time I was old enough to go have fun karting and doing stuff with cars, he was pretty far into heart failure. And as such. He passed away before i was able to spend some real time with him. At the time, i was pre-transition, meaning I'm transgender, and i didn't know it yet. He only knew me as a young boy. But he was my idol, and he never even knew who i really was. This is the stuff i would have done with him. And that experience would be worth it's weight in gold. All to say. I wish I could have had that experience with him. Some people say that kids don't want to do things with their hands, and only want to play video games and what have you. But We're here. I can name so many people who would love to get an old motorcycle going. I beg anyone interested to try and have some fun. Thanks for reading. -Rainer.
I’ve fixed many of those old Hondas. A set of rings and lap in the valves, timing chain and dial in the carb. Pull the right side cover off and clean out the sludge and the screen at the bottom. Good old bikes. Get an air filter tho
It definitely needs rings and a few other things but the wore out thing fires up with just a couple of kicks! Might see another episode of it one of these days.
Can't believe how good that stator looked after how the rest of the bike looked for sitting for 33 years! Always nice to see someone rebuild an engine/getting it running. I learn something every time and/or understand a little bit better as everyone has their own style. Great video!
IF you look, that drill bit WAS sparking... I mean, you're right about it just ensuring there's a ground, but look again that drill bit sparked between the tip and the motor!
That’s awesome that you are able to ride on the land you did when you was a kid so much land is being developed now there is no where to ride Great job can’t wait to see the next video
In 1970 I got a Honda SL70 motorcycle! We just moved to a small town in Indiana! I bet I put a million miles on that little dirt bike, wrecked it 50,000 times to , nothing serious! All I ever did to it was points, plugs, change the earl , well besides fix flats an buy a new back tire ! I rode it year around And it was a 1 kick wonder or just put it in 1st. and push it half a foot an pop the clutch!!! That thing was so much fun !!!!!! Thanks for the videos !!! GOD BLESS !!!
The riding in the woods reminds me of my childhood as well, me and my friends spent hours in the woods and playing with engines at home that old bike deserves a rebuild.
Though you are a few years younger, the 80's were a great time! I truely want to thank you for taking me back to a time I can't possibly forget... My childhood. I love your channel so much, and as you do, I do as well, and that is with what I got on hand.
Brought back a lot of Memories. Used to have a 125 oil injected 2 stroke Yamahammer.. Had more fun on the 125 but when I went to 250 2 stroke yz I hated the dam power ban and you had to go too fast to enjoy the ride. Bought a brand new 200 kawasaki 4 stroke that was on close out. I hated it and got stuck in a creek. It buried down past the axle and I could not get it out. I finally told a friend if he could get it out he could have it. I wanted no part of it anymore. It took him and three or four others two days to get it unstuck after it mud sucked it down further. I never looked back started riding three wheelers then bought the first Honda 200 four wheeler hi lo speed that was delivered to the dealer. It took me where ever I needed to go as a hunter for about ten years and many deer. Lots of wonderful memories with my son who died far too young. It keeps me alive watching your videos. Thanks friend you don't realize what you mean to others even though we have never met. We have a kindred spirit.
Very nice. I have a 1974 Suzuki RV125 that hasn't run in 20 years. Had an electrical I have corrected. Now you have me wanting me to get back at it. Thanks.
Thanks for the journey on this one, Chad! Also, nice first look at old Lockjaw!! Foreshadowing!! I really enjoyed the ‘what have we learned’ wrap up at the end of the build. That was a great way to sum things up!
I've got a 76 xl125 that I've had pretty much as long as you've had yours. I'm 45 and bought it when I was in highschool. These little bikes are as reliable as you can ask for. Good little machines.
Great video Chad, I bet you had some lovely moments on the ride through the woods at the end. It must have brought back some lovely (& perhaps some not so) moments you remember as a kid. And how lovely was it that it was on the same bike!! 👍👍👍🏴
I truly amazing video I started to wonder if you were going to get that thing to run. And if anyone ever asked if I ever could recommend a good channel for mechanics you would be at the top of the list. You are truly a master mechanic. Look forward to new videos thanks
That's odd. It says you have 40 comments. Press the button and there are none... Lessons learned, c) Chinese carburetors work. Well done, fella. (Being pulled down the road was priceless. Cheered me up no end).
Little FYI, replace the damn screws with 8mm or 10mm headed bolts, massive time saver if you have to fix again. I usually have my assistant do that to all the old stock repairs. Chain is looking close enough to go. Never bad to replace just because. My 125 is Cdi, pretty easy to dial in. Just have to lube mechanical advance to keep it moving right. I love getting old salvage bikes, fix em up cheap put back em on the road, good rainy/ snowy day projects. Got a trailer full right now to do. Found a 84 Cr 500 and 83 Rm 500. Gonna be fun to play with before I send them. Take them out to Tomacs and play on his new track at his new place. Got one of his old Hondas here I've fixed. Oh well. Love the vid, enjoy what your doing.
I confess I was surprised you didn't pull the jug when you had apart, but it's running and that's great, those bikes are pretty tough and a whole lot of fun, light and simple pretty much bullet proof and can still get some parts
I have just picked up a 1981 xl125s here in the UK, very rusty and a non runner due to the lack of wiring. Hope to have it up and running soon, restored and on the road. Had an xl100s back in 1985 and loved the feel of the bike. Watching your video has given me the boost to get it done. Thank you.
I had an xl100. Believe it was a 75? Not sure. Great bike rode the wheels of it. But you're right pretty gutless. Great looking 250sx too. Thanks for the awesome video!
Little tip for the gas tank use vinegar and large nuts (bc they can be removed with magnets) fill the tank with a gallon of vinegar let sit for a day or so add nuts then shake it any way possible empty tank let it dry then coat it and bam brand new tank
Enough light to leak compression and not run. I'm always on my mechanic assistant to spend the time to do it right. Having your own OHV repair business can be a challenge! Got a Raptor 660 were doing right now. Big bore to 686, needs all 5 valves in the head replaced and lapped.
The light at the bottom of your valve is the wight of the valve. If it was straight up and down you wouldn’t see light but because it’s not the rod is heavy enough to cock the valve to where you can see light from gravity
My fave bikes are Honda's. I would love one of these XL125's to make road legal and register it. Too old now and the price of them is so high here in the UK, it would cost more than the bike is worth.
My friend I Just Started To Watch Your Chanel Recently And must Say Every Video I Have Seen I have Enjoyed But Must Say Your Start Up To each Video I Believe Is Wrong You My Friend Are Certainly Not Stupid You Impress Me greatly With Your Resourcefulness Every Time Can't Wait till your Next Video Have Great Day
The idea for making a battery for your motorcycle is something I might have to do myself. I have a cowasocky 175 but the only motorcycle battery I have is the one for my 1100. It’s way too big to fit in the battery spot but if I can put some of those fancy green batteries together I can make them fit in the spot. I’m getting a little excited about the idea
Oh man I love that honda 250sx 3 wheeler. I recently started collecting them a couple years ago. I got a real rough 250sx I need to build. It runs good but the rest of it is JUNK
😂 sure wish you lived near me!! I have an 2004Arctic 400, that, I don’t know what is going on with it . I had it worked on, and, ot ran real well, for about 2 months, I took my grandson for a ride on it, and, on the way back, it backfired a few times, and, quit. It has never even attempted to run since.😑
oke ..exhaust pipe clean it ! the sound is not oke ... and check on the original spark-plug must be NGK DR8ES ...and try to get a electronic ignition ...and uhh gave you a nice like
Oh wow love the old classic Hondas like to share TH-cam channels a huge supporter of TH-cam channels I don’t know if you heard of Kaplan America or Kaplan cycles ken and ken jr own Run and operate The New England motorcycle museum and if you are interesting in selling any old classic motorcycle give Ken ken jr and the boys a call and they will pick up bikes all over the United States Hey A little trick A old bike mechanic taught me when laping the valves if you can’t get the suction cup tool to work use a piece of fuel line The same Diamme as the valve stem and rub the fuel hose between your hands it works well too
Before you go and hurt yourself, let me give you a little tech tip for towing a motorcycle. I've been riding dirt for 50 years and know just how dangerous it is to actually have a tow rope attached to a bike is. Ask me how I know.. What you do is take the rope and take a few turns around the handlebar and then hold the end on the left handgrip. Th!at way, when things go cowshit, you can let go!!

Chad is also a good motorcycle mechanic what a handy man good video I enjoyed it
Much was learned and fun was had. Thank you.

I'm shocked you got it running. I liked the end. riding through the woods.
That's odd. It says you have 40 comments. Press the button and there are none... Lessons learned, c) Chinese carburetors work. Well done, fella. (Being pulled down the road was priceless. Cheered me up no end).
Keep pluggin away and stay with it. Great job. Brought back a lot of old memories.

Nice work on that old girl!
Great video way to not give up on the ole girl
I confess I was surprised you didn't pull the jug when you had apart, but it's running and that's great, those bikes are pretty tough and a whole lot of fun, light and simple pretty much bullet proof and can still get some parts
I almost soiled myself when the fuel tank fell off…good stuff.
Awesome job and entertaining to boot!! Love watching your videos!!

Boy, did that remind me of my 76- 250XL, I had as a kid. That was fun.🙂
Omg lmao when your being towed only in certain parts would you expect to see that love it, your daddy did a 👍
Crazy old guys!...I see myself doin the Exact same thing 50 years ago out in the southwest desert...
This is a good video, and good job with the Honda, Cheers !
One of my first bikes, they are good bikes
Wish I had my old XR 80 those ol Hondas were great bikes

Lovely sweet little engines.
I had an xl100. Believe it was a 75? Not sure. Great bike rode the wheels of it. But you're right pretty gutless. Great looking 250sx too. Thanks for the awesome video!
I see you =ide right by lockjaw, great ride hopefully you had fun

Very Cool Channel. Just got my 250 running again. New Subscriber.
Preshate it. 👍
Who knew Dick Van Dyke was alive and can ride a 3 wheeler “death trap”😂
My first bike was 81 xl 80. I loved it and it was rough...lol
Good job man the 125 was the deal back then.
Never have had any luck with those aftermarket carbs on any old hondas, just buy them instead of rebuild kits for their floats and gaskets
Get a propane torch to heat up the pipe and cyl head. It will work!!
My fave bikes are Honda's. I would love one of these XL125's to make road legal and register it. Too old now and the price of them is so high here in the UK, it would cost more than the bike is worth.
Was a great bike

A length of bicycle/motorcycle chain is better. It's as good for knocking rust loose and easier to retrieve.
If only it were that simple here in the uk!!

Went through the batteries I had for my cordless drill and I only came up with 9V worth so it didn’t work out
Well, my friend I would hardly characterize myself as dumb if I was as talented as you. Appreciate your videos!
Hi from New Zealand enjoyable video from a down to earth guy…hey your trees over there need some leaves 😂
Hello New Zealand! 👍
Aweaome video,and..... theres lockjaw.
That's wat good bout o rielys and auto zone, from my experience if one don't have the part, the other one does 👍
Could you make a video of how to make a 12 volt battery like you did with the lithium? That’s so neat!
You put that motor back in the frame pretty quick. Could you put my CB750 motor back in for me lol
Great just Great Blessings from Texas
I would like to see this restored it will be a nice little bike when done
Oh man I love that honda 250sx 3 wheeler. I recently started collecting them a couple years ago. I got a real rough 250sx I need to build. It runs good but the rest of it is JUNK

Hey Miss daisy!.. such a cute co-host.
Go on line and find a used tank or a motorcycle salvage yard!
Thanks again 🇺🇲
Do Not ride on the road or go near a golf course! LOL.
The valve stem is wanting to sag towards the ground and that is lifting that bottom edge off. In my opinion of course 😌 😉
Rapid gas tank up in a blanket and put it in the dryer for about 10 minutes
oke ..exhaust pipe clean it ! the sound is not oke ... and check on the original spark-plug must be NGK DR8ES ...and try to get a electronic ignition ...and uhh gave you a nice like
thats a sweet 250sx
Good 👍🏻 job bro
great content
This Worthy Project calls for a just washed Motorcycle
Oh wow love the old classic Hondas like to share TH-cam channels a huge supporter of TH-cam channels I don’t know if you heard of Kaplan America or Kaplan cycles ken and ken jr own Run and operate The New England motorcycle museum and if you are interesting in selling any old classic motorcycle give Ken ken jr and the boys a call and they will pick up bikes all over the United States
Hey A little trick A old bike mechanic taught me when laping the valves if you can’t get the suction cup tool to work use a piece of fuel line The same Diamme as the valve stem and rub the fuel hose between your hands it works well too
Love you're so very much
I'd like to know what kind of meter you have, with that loud of a BEEPER ON IT? THAT'S THE LOUDEST I'VE HEARD!
Don't need battery to make it run, mostly just for peripherals.
It's a battery ignition so yes it's needed to start and if you don't have a charging system then it's needed to run also.
Goes to show that old Hondas die really hard..
Before you go and hurt yourself, let me give you a little tech tip for towing a motorcycle. I like to have that Chevy truck
Saludos desde Colombia!
Be wary about pull starting with a vehicle! I tried it once, the “ puller” went to fast and sent me and the motorcycle sideways!
Real good job
What's up
Kicking way to hard
bicycle lot less pedaling
Hi
👍
if you shook that package of e-clips one more time I would have blown my brains out!
What is the background music on your motorcycle ride
🤷♂️ Might be listed in the description.
Just talking crap, but if that dodge was built up right, it could make a good starting out pipeliner truck.
Elisenore Honda
Japanese reliability compared to bsa etc of the time they knew how to build 4 stroke motorcycles. 😊
Runs like as
