Excellent and very comprehensive review, although I am somewhat surprised by the very generous score. Given the feedback from the review I would expect something like an 8 due to the performance issues in handheld mode, online mode issues, repetitive structure of Bowser's Fury and its rather short campaign.
I suspecting this isn't the final release, Imagine the day mario ended in march they announce the same day with the release with new mario game but who knows surprise is a surprise
Thank you Nintendo Life for not being idiots like IGN. You guys actually gave this game the respect it deserves. Great review and you pointing out its qualities while still acknowledging it's faults shows that you guys are not just dishing out a biased review. Well done
Actually i dont think it is, i have already beaten 3d world on the wii u, so the only experience im having is from bowsers fury, and it was just one day for me to beat bowsers fury at 100%
This is a weird game for me. I decided to give it a shot because it seemed like it was more 2D traversal than total 3D. For some reason my brain can't always figure out where Mario is in the space. I end up missing jumps, not hitting boxes or jumping off a ledge in the background and foreground way too much. I have to take it slow. Maybe it's a sign of age.
Ok but seriously the soundtrack for this extra mode is incredible. If you haven't listened to either 3D World or Bowser's Fury soundtrack yet, go do yourself a favor!
I think my favorite thing about the fury bowser situation besides the music is the progressive difficuly of getting rid of him. First you can kinda just hideout until he vanishes if you arent near a cat shine. Or you can just die and he will be gone after loading. After a while, he wont just go away on his own anymore, you have to collect a cat shine to make him go away and thats it. THEN when you are near 50, he just never goes away, even if you collect a shine or die. He is always a threat until you hit 50. that las concept made the climax so amazing. I did a run where I had to get 3 catshines to hit 50 and i collected all 3, then went giga liona, then beat the fury out of bowser, then beat bowser himsel. it felt like one super long boss fight that began with the collection of 3 cat shines. It was amazing!!!!! and that you can claw bowser, throw stuff at him, or just wat for him to be stunned after his last groundpount to then greoundpound him yoursel. It's just such a dynamic way of doing things and that made this the best bost fight in a mario game for me to date! I was in awe!
BF was fun to play, but as you're nearing the end, the interruptions become more and more tedious, and I was happy once I had completed the game. Mario fans should try this one.
"5 shines per island" Dont you mean per lighthouse? Since each lighthouse has a section... The preview showed the first island (technically 2 islands, but they are just treated as one) and they have 15 or so
I think it’s more worth it just for the better optimized version of 3D world and the multiplayer, but that being said I have been enjoying bowser’s fury more than I expected. It feels a little dated because it’s designed kind of like an oversized odyssey kingdom and the 3D world movement is a little lack luster, but I’m having fun with it. I’m glad to be revisiting 3D world, and bowser’s fury is a fun addition. It’s worth the $60 in my opinion. I’m glad they did it this way instead of making bowser’s fury a stand-alone game because then it would have been disappointing. As sort of an expansion to 3D world I think it’s great
Fr bro. At least from what I could gather the new additions are insubstantial. (The online being short and Bowser's Fury being short and kinda repetitive) Would rather not buy the same game twice
One of my best friends and I are huge Mario fans! However, we live almost halfway across the country apart from each other, so I'm very much looking forward to online multiplayer so I can play this with her!
My daughter was still a baby when I had this for the Wii U. Shes 7 now. She loved Odyssey so I'm sure she will like this, especially since its multiplayer. I love that child 😇
6:50 Watching Mario struggle to hit that blue Piranha Creeper is so frustrating. I really wish they gave the full game 360 degree directional movement.
I'm not one for buying remakes or games that have been re released from a previous generation console, but for this game I was more then happy to make an exception. Brought it on Wiiu on its release in 2013 and it's one of my all time favourite games. It's great to be able to have it on the switch with more content. Wonderful game.
@@derpybreads2212 LOL, the game is fucking 60 dollars, and I have to buy a toy to cheat in the game. Wow such a genius idea. I played in a emulator, I can use the amiibo when I want, but this is a error in game desing, it's like Assasins Creed forcing you to buy DLC to reduce the padding, then the game gets great.

The better question is whether or not Bowsers Fury is worth $60 to people who already have 3D World for Wii U. I’d have to say no. Bowsers Fury should be available to be purchased separately for $20 on the Eshop, which is what I think it’s worth. Why do I need to spend the extra $40 on a game I already have just to play the DLC content? This should have been Mario Odyssey DLC to be honest...
Remember everyone: Tomorrow is the grand opening or grand release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury or Bowser's Fury for short. Are you ready to celebrate?
Does anyone play games when going through tough times? When I play positive games like Mario on bad days it helps me pull through. The games are full of charm and are fun too play. Even though some games are short it's never bothered me since I like playing games to help me relax.
Funny enough, the games where Mario and Luigi are hired for plumbing are small. The first, of course, being Mario Brothers, before Mario got Super. Sure, they didn't really fix pipes much, but they were put in the sewers on a plumbing job. The last game I remember, before 3d World where they actually are hired for a plumbing job was the first Mario & Luigi RPG game. That was literally their first mission, and it brought a smile to my face when the first thing they had you do was a literal plumbing job.
As a non-Mario game switch owner this title does look interesting to me. But I’m still not sure. It’s worth it, but also for someone who never played Mario games and is not sure they will like the platforming? Or are there better entry games for that? I’m annoyed that the price almost never goes down to try it out.
Thank you for the amazing review, you guys truly know how to review video games unlike IGN who gave this gem of a game a lousy poor 7/10. Clearly this game does not deserve a poor 7. Thank you for being critical, presenting the limitations and flaws of the game along with the wins while showing love for this game.
*Question:* In the Wii U version there were section were you had to use the microphone to trigger some actions. The Switch doesn't have any microphone (I guess), so how do those sections works on Switch? I don't know if gyro is used in the Wii U version, so same question.
Criticism and Missed Potential: 1:32 Anyone else wish that NL actually showed the cutscene, because I certainly do. 3:34 Yeah, because we can see whoever played it (my guess Alex) running into the walls of the stairway to the Goal Pole. 5:17 I mean it nice that you at least showed us the "join room" menu but not the Online/Local Menu, come on. Also I love the fact that the Beep Blocks slow down with the music.
I'd rather a few hours of amazing gameplay than many hours of a sucky game. Thankfully, this is a fantastic game that very few got to play when it released on Wii U
I never owned a Wii U but I went to my cousins' house once and played this game and it was so fun, especially with a bunch of people. The Captain Toad bits were only one player so everyone else had to sit out while one person played it, but now that its multi in this game _and_ it has extra content, then I am definitely buying it!
As someone who already played this on Wii U, i HIGHLY recommend this! Hell, i bought the port and I don’t question my decision one bit, even though my Wii U and copy of 3D World are 10 feet away from me. If you’ve enjoyed a Mario game before, you will enjoy this one. EDIT: Bowser’s Fury’s performance in handheld isn’t that bad at all. Here and there i’ll notice a quick frame rate dip or a little pop in but like 90% of the time it’s great in my experience.
I liked this game far better than Odyssey. This game took the best from the classic side scrolling Mario games and the best of Mario 64 and made it into I believe one of the best Mario games ever made. Bowser’s Fury i believe was going to be its own game but I think COVID 19 disrupted its development so it ended up as an add on for SM3D world. The fact that Nintendo was able to produce a secondary game that polished during the pandemic is a huge accomplishment.
I bought the game for Super Mario 3D World which I highly enjoyed on WiiU and launched Bowser’s Fury without any high hopes given the ‘bad’ previews this ‘addition’ had. And color me surprised but that game is awesome, I couldn’t put down the controller for 4 hours straight. This game is the missing link between SM3DW and Mario Oddyssey and it’s pure fun, a real hidden gem. The open world makes you seamlessly explore the world, looking for cat stars and secrets literally everywhere. Mario Oddyssey felt big and empty to me and I often got bored to death of endlessly walking around and in Bowser’s Fury it’s a joy. Stuff everywhere, cats everywhere XD So give it a chance and try it out! Plus it's very long to fully complete
Whats to spoil anyways? Its a Mario game for god sake. Theres almost no story (alway a generic trama Mario vs Bowser, nothing new). I don't understand why people care so much about the length of a game like this (especially when the story doesn't matter since it's Mario). I don't get all collectables in a Mario game once and then sell the game, never to touch it again. I play whenever I feel like it, whether I "finish" it or not. The point of Mario games is to kick back and chill, to pick up and play whenever. You should just want to control Mario or whoever you're playing as. You want to press a button and see something happen on the screen to get some sense of control in your life. As a tangent, I don't look at the running time of a movie, see "59 minutes" or anything else less than an hour, then think "TOO SHORT" and ignore it. If I want to watch the movie, I'll watch the movie.

Given the feedback from the review I would expect something like an 8 due to the performance issues in handheld mode, online mode issues, repetitive structure of Bowser's Fury and its rather short campaign.

I’m happy that more people will get to experience this great game!
I suspecting this isn't the final release, Imagine the day mario ended in march they announce the same day with the release with new mario game but who knows surprise is a surprise
I mean I still expect a second Mario odyssey or (unlikely) a Mario galaxy 3, though I would like odyssey 2 way more
Thank you Nintendo Life for not being idiots like IGN. You guys actually gave this game the respect it deserves. Great review and you pointing out its qualities while still acknowledging it's faults shows that you guys are not just dishing out a biased review. Well done

Short answer: Yes, it is worth it.
Not if you already own the game on wii u. not worth the $60 again for some dinky lil bonus game.
I’d sell my Wii U and get a switch if I were you
@@JessG_20 hey that “dinkey lil’ bonus game” is really fun. And if you enjoyed the main game on wii u I feel like switch version is worth it enough

Totally agree! Also the game seems pretty easy, especially after playing BOTW
Ok but seriously the soundtrack for this extra mode is incredible. If you haven't listened to either 3D World or Bowser's Fury soundtrack yet, go do yourself a favor!
yup!
Spoiler : Before Mario defeats Fury Bowser for the final time, Bowser Jr comes to Mario and says he’s a chuckster
This was one of the major Wii U ports I was waiting for! So happy to have it this Friday. Now I just need Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD!
1:42 F in the chat for that Mario clone
BF was fun to play, but as you're nearing the end, the interruptions become more and more tedious, and I was happy once I had completed the game. Mario fans should try this one.
"5 shines per island" Dont you mean per lighthouse? Since each lighthouse has a section... The preview showed the first island (technically 2 islands, but they are just treated as one) and they have 15 or so
Who cares?
I think it’s more worth it just for the better optimized version of 3D world and the multiplayer, but that being said I have been enjoying bowser’s fury more than I expected. It feels a little dated because it’s designed kind of like an oversized odyssey kingdom and the 3D world movement is a little lack luster, but I’m having fun with it. I’m glad to be revisiting 3D world, and bowser’s fury is a fun addition. It’s worth the $60 in my opinion. I’m glad they did it this way instead of making bowser’s fury a stand-alone game because then it would have been disappointing. As sort of an expansion to 3D world I think it’s great
Wii u ports shouldn't be 60 point blank.
Fr bro. At least from what I could gather the new additions are insubstantial. (The online being short and Bowser's Fury being short and kinda repetitive) Would rather not buy the same game twice

My daughter was still a baby when I had this for the Wii U. Shes 7 now. She loved Odyssey so I'm sure she will like this, especially since its multiplayer.

Is Bowser Jr only playable via local or can an online friend jump in as him?
6:50 Watching Mario struggle to hit that blue Piranha Creeper is so frustrating. I really wish they gave the full game 360 degree directional movement.
Frankly I don't think there was enough waffling in this one
I'm not one for buying remakes or games that have been re released from a previous generation console, but for this game I was more then happy to make an exception. Brought it on Wiiu on its release in 2013 and it's one of my all time favourite games. It's great to be able to have it on the switch with more content. Wonderful game.
Wait until people get mad because they have to wait for bowser to appear to break all the fury blocks

Finally I can play the sequel to 3d land, my favourite Mario game

As a non-Mario game switch owner this title does look interesting to me. But I’m still not sure. It’s worth it, but also for someone who never played Mario games and is not sure they will like the platforming? Or are there better entry games for that? I’m annoyed that the price almost never goes down to try it out.
Thank you for the amazing review, you guys truly know how to review video games unlike IGN who gave this gem of a game a lousy poor 7/10. Clearly this game does not deserve a poor 7. Thank you for being critical, presenting the limitations and flaws of the game along with the wins while showing love for this game.
I think I could easily say this is the best Wii U port Nintendo has put out
All we need is Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch and then my Wii U will be pointless.
*Question:* In the Wii U version there were section were you had to use the microphone to trigger some actions. The Switch doesn't have any microphone (I guess), so how do those sections works on Switch? I don't know if gyro is used in the Wii U version, so same question.
My guess is they probably just changed how it was activated. Doubt they're gonna remove the level entirely
@@NCozy Just looked up, they remove the microphone functions. It's all automatic now.

CAUTION: Beware when reading comments there's a lot of spoilers especially regarding boss fight

Wait, so there were some issues here and there, especially with multiplayer, yet the game still got a 10/10?
10/10 does not mean perfection, if it did it would never be used.
@@apemayor3046 10/10 literally is the definition of perfect. That's why you grade something lower when it's not, well, perfect!
