    I have the same jacket but made by a British designer called 'One True Saxon', it was called 'The Jungle Parker' and is identical to this but not in camo, just a plain greeny brown colour, it's an awesome quality jacket and mine still has the mosquito net too :) They still pop up on ebay for around £50.

    The big pocket in the back could be for carrying a shelter half . Two soldiers carry one half each and pair up to put their halves together , making a shelter that they share . Their combined body heat makes the shelter warmer than a single person tent , and each soldier has a bit less weight to carry . I bought two shelter halves from a retired US Marine some years ago . They're shaped like a rectangle with a triangle on each end sort of like this with grommets around the edges . A single shelter half can be set up into a lean-to shelter . Good video , I'm a subscriber .

    I think it's very fashionable. It has the look of Givenchy, but would go better with the Bruno Magli jackboots. You must get the diamond encrusted 16 gauge shotgun to complete the ensemble...especially for wolf tracking. Très chic!

    The zipper is in the right place for high mobility. When the zipper is too low, and You duck before managing to lift jacket a bit, the zip will surely rip at the bottom. So everything is fine with the zipper, but it is a bit colder.

    This type of “jacket” is actually called a smock. It’s made for heavier load outs but is not truly load bearing. If you wish to see a good example of a load-bearing smock (up to 15kg), search for the “stealth smock” by UF-Pro. It has an internal padding system for the shoulders, hips and lower spine, as well an belt running through the inner liner. I have one, it’s rather expensive but I ca use it in lieu of a backpack on forest trips up to 4 nights at +5 C or higher. It will fit my entire sleeping system (lightweight hammock, silnylon tarp, and insulation) in the back pocket, as well as alcohol burner and cook kit, water filtration system, rain poncho, first aid and fire kit. I only wear a hydration pack (source tactical) on my back but it is high enough not to rub against the large back pocket when loaded.

    Hi Lars, another excellent video. Even better are the Team Lars comments, these are excellent: thank you all. The on-body carry of essential field items is an outstanding feature. Greetings to the Pink Nija, my own 6 yr old Thai daughter (she would be a coffee-coloured Nija) - she loves the Pink Nija appearances as we watch your videos together. It is the father-daughter relationship that she loves. Thank you all from Greg in Thailand

    Never had this one during my service, but the pockets are for: 4x 2 mags, one for the mess kit, one for the canteen, the one with the smaller ones that look like they're made for pencils is for the gas mask (the small 'pencil pockets' are for the autoinjector syringes against VX or Sarin gas), and the big one inside on the back is for carrying some spare clothing that would also cushion the backpack. The metal rings help fixing the backpack and the net inside the hood is not a mosquito net but was meant for facial camouflage. The two ribbons on the inside front help to keep the trousers up.

    I just bought mine today at a thrift store for $13. Mine has a detachable rucksack though and is missing that mosquito netting. It feels very comfortable, but it rains alot in Oregon. Will probably carry a US military poncho in it.

  • @The.Omnipotent.1
    @The.Omnipotent.1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s not a mosquito net as such, it’s more of a shroud with the same camo pattern on. When pulled down over face, the face is invisible! I love this jacket. There are various versions, the older one was much softer material, but wears out much faster- the press studs tend to tear out, but the inner shoulder load bearing part is normal material. On yours, that is waterproof material which gets very sweaty with exertion (at least it does with me 😂). The rest of the material, however, is much stronger, not as soft, much better wearing!

  • @perrymathias

    good point about need for a winter jackets to be super breathable and quite as sound travels so much father in the cold and precipitation is crystallized and just fall off.

  • @The.Omnipotent.1
    @The.Omnipotent.1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just bought one of these, they are absolutely brilliant, nothing else like it out there! Mine is a bit worn, one of the press studs has torn out, the others are beginning to go because they are so tight to open. I’ve got the matching rucksack. There aren’t many reviews on it that I’ve been able to find. If I can find it I’ll put a link to the diagram showing what all the pockets are for, I think the one Lars said about pencils, is for a gun cleaning kit. The pouch in the back is for a folding sleep mat, like the German ones, which will also pad the rucksack. In the hood there was a camouflaged net, for covering the face. Mine is missing. The camouflage was designed for the Alps and also for urban fighting. I’m trying to get a second one for when my first wears out, that’s how much I love it!😂🤓

    Hi. Great vid explaining this jacket. I have the M83 field coat, as I like the print, but I managed to find one of these only last week. Really well made and I will be using it for wild camping here in the uk as the pattern really lends itself well to our woodlands at this time of year. I have the backpack and trousers too. The hood mesh is a sniper bale, apparently, not a mosquito net.
    All the best.

    the jacket takes your old fashioned waterproofing really well (the bees wax and linseed oil), the hood should have a button further back on the top for the tab to make it fit better on a bare head, (fold over and button up, lifts the front)

I liked to have unique camo no one else had seen before ,plus it's history I've can pass on to my grandchildren, if they are so inclined to have an interest . I'm having a very hard time finding the Danish flectarn that will ship to the states , I really liked yours . Stay safe !

      Hi, you can but Danish M84 "Flecktarn" in the US here: www.military1st.com/colors-m84/ And this Russian shop have suits in the Russian copy of M84, and they ship world wide, if you like the Russian style Gorka or sniper suits better: kamuflage.ru/en/kostjum-gorka-sfera.html kamuflage.ru/en/kostyum-gorka-5-sfera-s-zaschitoj-kolenej-loktej-i-kopchika.html kamuflage.ru/en/kostjum-snajper-2-rip-stop-sfera.html kamuflage.ru/en/kostjum_gorka-4_anorak_rip-stop_sfera.html
      Otherwise try this Danish store. They send to the US. But only Danish Language. Try Google Translate though, should it be??

    Great test lars Ive been pontificating over purchasing the M70 for a few months and you have answered some of my questions. our climate is much like what you have in this video often cold and moist. The concern I had about it as a load bearer is you tied into wearing it for the whole day. They are as cheap as chips in NZ $39.00 for the jacket and M83 trousers only $15.00. I was also a bit curious about how it would fit with a pack so great review

    • @andyh5978
      @andyh5978 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought one earlier in the year (also cheap as chips in UK) and I agree with Lars overview, I really like mine and its astounding how much stuff you can pack into it, in reality its a webbing system with sleeves! The alpenflage camouflage is surprisingly good considering how bright it is. I'd recommend getting at least one extra size than you think you need as it's a bit of a bum freezer otherwise, they're made to go with the trousers which come up high.

    Got one a couple of years ago, it's a great camo pattern in autumn/early winter, the red looks brown to the human eye at a distance so it's not actually that ''funky''! It is a very well thought out piece of kit if you can get over the funky red patches!!!

    Thanks for the Video. I have used my M70 jacket and pants for deer hunting to carry some ammunition and my knife as well as a few other supplies but I try not to load the pockets too much. I have some old Fin BDUs that are reversible to white. I really like them. I do have 2 poncho capes in the Swiss pattern. They can make a great bivy with a plastic bag at the feet or pack. The red disappears at distance on the old Swiss pattern. Liked the vid.

    Awesome video as always Lars!
    This is a nice jacket! I have one myself. I got it for under $5. I also have the pants and a poncho of the same pattern. I think the poncho is from a different model, though, as it uses different buttons.
    The pants are great! They have bracers built in and huge thigh pockets. They also have areas on the hip that unzip for breathability.
    For the backpack that goes with this pattern, don't get the one from Varusteleka, as it has been modified and doesn't have the clips to attach to the jacket.
    Good luck out there Lars!

    I have the trousers and I agree it is well made stuff. I like having them around to throw over some other pants and go outside in cold, wet weather with no worries. The pants have some waterproof material over the majority of the front of them which is great. They have built in suspenders and no belt loops which is pretty different for me, and the suspenders are just barely long enough to work. They are ugly but functional and they were very inexpensive! Good stuff!

    I have the entire set but the older model. The pattern is a bit more detailed and the large pocket on the back is different. The backpack is terrible because it has no straps so it kills your shoulders. It is fine for a pair of clothes or a poncho or some food but nothing heavy. The trousers come up high so the short zip on the jacket really really helps with freedom of movement. It is a great set of camo. Unfortunately my jacket was not stored properly by the previous owner and the large pocket on the front right side had dry rot. I ended up removing the pocket and I have had no further issues. With a wool field shirt under the jacket I have been comfortable up to -30 C.

    1. I wasn't convinced about the function of the red in the camo pattern, and..
    2. The water absorbing thing is a big issue for me. It rains a lot where I live in Northern England.
    However, I still like it. For the rain I will use my Danish army waterproof mac :)

      Matthäus Alteration Take a look, in this store you can find a lot of cheap and quality stuff. From surplus, and a new also. Many things I bought here, and I don't need to order and wait, because a store is a few min by foot from me. :)

    Was that the Varusteleka 12 ga. shell holder that you had in the pocket at 5:50 in the vid? If so, how do you like that piece of kit? I was thinking of ordering but wasn't sure I'd like the double row design (thought it might be too bulky). What are your thoughts?

      Hi again. Yes, the Swiss poncho is cheap, but it seems to be made of much stronger material than the Jerven bag, at least after this review. :o) th-cam.com/video/impA6nYGzlQ/w-d-xo.html

    Nice vid. Seems like it would work well with a Gore Tex liner. Laughed at your fashion comment. It's camo. It could be the ugliest thing, but if where you're going is ugly and it conceals you, it works!

    There is a hardware store, Mills' Fleet Farm. They sell such surplus items. Not many. I'll check there next time I go. Right now I use a U.S. Army M-65(model 1965) filed jacket, olive drab, for sentimental reasons. The M70 looks more useful. How many pockets are too many?

    Lars - have you ever reviewed or do you have any experience with Swedish M90 Thermal Parka and Over-trousers? I'm considering that combo for winter camping this year

    That looks like a nice jacket but many years ago we were talking about load bearing jackets as an alternative to a pack or webbing but then thinking about it, it seems when you stop and have a break or a brew up you have the take the jacket off to relax unlike a pack or webbing that is easy to slip on or off quickly. Great for a day hike but not for any serious traveling for me, I even find overfilling the pockets on normal combats to be uncomfortable, I have a few different packs I like to use for different trips.

      I agree, but I think it will be fine for leaving main camp for a scout or hunt. I do not like over filled pockets either, but the large pocket will be good for some backup gear.

    • @chrisosh9574
      @chrisosh9574 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At least with a blanket or ground pad in the back pocket, you won't get a chill in the kidneys. That pocket is even bigger than the ones in the old English poacher's jackets.
      I think the camo pattern is not that bad, maybe you could do a video modeling the different camos for the fashion concious woodsman?

    If the jacket is as oldschool as the famous Bundeswehr Parka, then this sturdy material inside of the jacket might be a layer of plastic. I had an old school Bundeswehr Parka once and I cut the plastic out because it was noisy, I think it sheds rain (although the cloth is wet in this case) and maybe prevents the backpack from rubbing the shoulders too much, I am not sure.

    I just bought this jacket about two months ago. I assume you bought it from Varusteleka? ;) My jacket doesn't have that heavy stiff material on the back, but I do have the mosquito net in the hood. Also greetings from Finland!
