The Survival Russia Channel is about "The Reality Of Survival". I live on a Homestead in far away Russian wild nature. Here is no room for "TV" Survival.
Only Reality counts here. Survival Russia promotes the philosophy of always carrying equipment and never to be parted from equipment which will affect chances of Survival.
So did the old timers and pioneers of both the East and the West.

Your philosophy of never being separated from what you need, and pocket practice, have become a part of everything I do.
Your channel is awesome,
Great great job!
That's awesome and how it should be :) Thank you!
Every infantryman in the German army used to carry a mini-pouch of possibles that we called "Engineer's pack" ("Pi-Pack") - and it contained a few nails, some steel wire, thin hemp-rope and a few safety pins etc. Even nowadays I have a piece of steel wire in my ultralight "Fire & Repair-Kit". ATB, Gereon
"Pionier Pack" :) You can never go wrong with nails and wire :)
19ghost73 farmers are always Hunters in Germany are in Texas well lot of Germans live in Texas
Well...our daily life in Germany as farmers of any kind (crops, cattle, wine...) is vastly different from anything in Texas, that's for sure. ATB, Gereon
Did it include Meth?
I have a fair bit of kit in my wallet that's similar in idea, sewing gear, ferro rod and old reciepts for fire,
I'm the last guy in the room you'd expect to have a seamstresses tape and spare buttons to repair emergency wardrobe emergencies lol,
But I'm often the only one in the room who does.
In olden days trappers and pioneers used to burn down a cabin and/or barn to retrieve nails when moving from one location to another.
Very interesting indeed :) Thank you Steve.
Steve Taylor yes your right,I read that in a book about pioneer living, back in the days nails where expensive to buy because they where very labor intensive
Often they were also too far away from a blacksmith as well.
In those days most folks had carpentry skills so rebuilding was easier than developing blacksmith skills
Finally, someone else carries nails and wire around. Almost thought I was the only one to do that!
I can't recall any place that you have shown us that is not lushly overgrown. Your soil must be fantastic. Of course, there is the rain and snow. So much moisture helps. Nails and wire? We say duct tape and bailing wire.
I don't remember who taught me about carrying nails, but it was about 15 years ago, and I've had them in my possibles kit ever since . . . and many more in my jeep, where the weight doesn't matter that much. I'm glad to hear that your list of topics will last for years, and I'll be waiting to watch your videos for as long as your list lasts. Thank you for making awesomely useful videos!
This guy speaks through these videos like you are right there with him. I appreciate that so much. He's sincere. I hate videos where the presenter is arrogant or know-it-all types. Love this channel.
Lars talking about Nails definetly tops the Braveheart speech in passion for me
Nails have always been prized. Many years ago when early settlers moved they would burn the old house down and collect the nails afterwards. Now you see random nails just laying in the road or ditch and no one bats a eye.
so funny when you pause this video and come back, hit play and Lars is saying "Blah blah..blah blah blah blah" lol. This is awesome! lol Great video as always Sir :-)
Lol, when you said nails and copper wire I was like...
He's going to make batteries?! 0_o
I do not ever think I have ever heard of keeping nails in a kit before but it really is rather brilliant.
Totally agree, I always Carry nails if I'm going into the wilds for more than a day, I did see a seminar with Mr Canterbury a number of years ago when he mentioned the importance of carrying nails. A friend from the German army also told me about how they carried these items, but your right you don't see to many people mention the importance of carrying such items. Good advice as always keep up the good work Lars, thanks for your videos look forward to the next.👍
I like how high up the blind is. I would add zip-ties, they are great for binding things together.
Then the smell of human will not be on the ground :)
Hunting platforms come in many guises and can be the difference between eating and not. I found hunting squirrels to be much more productive up a tree. For some reason they come closer than on terra firma. Why? - Curiosity maybe, don't know for sure. But I use a crossbow pistol with home made lunt lead (specifically for squirrel) arrow heads. Greys are a particularly nasty pest here in the UK and quite tasty.
First time I noticed was while up a chestnut tree waiting for a fox to take some bait so I could photograph her and hopefully cubs. Then realised that an entire family of squirrels were sitting watching me watching for foxes.
Interesting perspective :)
Cheers!
I really enjoy you sharing your outdoor (and other) know-how! Keep up the good work! And thank you!
Hi Lars,
You hit the nail on the head about the survival programs today. Love your videos and subed. I like seeing new countries, the way of life and the wilderness. I also like your jacket and wondered if it was waterproof rain gear or part of a parka layering system . Especially the camo color and pattern.
Nails make a lot of things stronger and faster. A old man in the USA
Good idea on the nails. I have always found that carrying a bundle of good rope can get you out of some bad situations.
Hello sir.
Love your videos and enjoy seeing so many different things about the nature in your country. I am in the Uk and you videos make me realise what a tiny country we have here. You have a huge amount of natural forest that we do not have.
The Russian people seem so strong and need to be to survive in those weather conditions that you show us.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Both Nessmuk and Kephart preached carrying nails in the ditty bag. My friends used to laugh at me for always having a few nails in my ditty bag. I even carry a few drywall screws as well. They are invaluable to have along on a long trek. Hope all is well with you and your family Lars.
Awesome hunting stand Lars, the view of that field is second to none. What a great spot to hunt!
You nailed that one bro! Tra-la-la la-la! 👍🏻
LOL :) Thank you LR :)
I personally believe that most people would fail to survive in an area of thousands of square kms where there is only oneself and the wild creatures. To many survival is a kind of game rather than truly knowing how to live off the land, knowing what to do if illness strikes or one falls and breaks a limb. Well, surviving is most certainly not a game and if one finds oneself out there without having any tools that survivalists, bushcrafters and so on take for granted, again these people would fail miserably. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and skills with us, Lars, this has been another informative video and it brings the truth right home. Take care...
In the Swedish Armed Forces most experienced soldiers would carry a "Jaeger-stick", a piece of wood which you could make tinder from, that's about the same length to fit just right into your uniform cargo pockets. The stick would then be wrapped on one end with steel wire and the other with hemp wire, some people would also put stuff like fishing line or other forms of cordage on their sticks as well.
Very interesting. Thank you for the info friend, and have a great weekend too :)
Nails and bailing wire same idea works well.Yes It's a good idea to have a field planted , I like this field for hunting ,plant goodies around the edges berries Pears and apple trees and don't forget the plums the more you have to eat more game you'll attract. Never be stingy always plenty even for Mama's pies .
I carry 2 large nails in my bag. I use them like you would an awl, or stake, or whatever. Makeshift tool. Love your vids sir.
I hope we can see the tree stand in use during your hunting season.
I have a plan on going there soon. I will bring you guys along :)
Cool video. Really tall hunting stand you have, nice view. Saw Sergeis videos with the tractor. Funny to see same spots on different channels. He too has a video from the hunting cabin.
throatnotchingtroutzzz ny russians pretty scratchy but I saw that video to and I think they kept mentioning that they were happy Lars wasnt their because he would eat all the bacon.
Yes he would eat all the bacon for sure!! And the Super soup (Cуперсуп) too. Do not be mistaken. he always carry one in his survival food pouch (I am sure, noticed it several times). He is just more discrete about it than the bacon. :o)
You are right. Really light and nails are really useful. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nails are very handy so are zip ties they work great for building stuff. light and you can carry ALOT take care brother hope to hunt along soon
Lars, I love the way you think. Keep sharing! Simple, but profound. Take care.
Your hunting setup is outstanding, I bet there's no trouble getting meat in freezer.
Thanks for sharing my friend.
Huntarama : I agree with you 100%. You should not plan to "rely" on fire. And I will take one step further. You should not plan on "relying on anything other than your knowledge and experience. You will only be setting yourself up for potential disappointment. As the Marine friend says... Plan A rarely ever works, so you need an excellent Plan B, and a great "Plan C. Come to think of it, I was a smoker back in those days. No wonder fire was so important to me ; )
You also mentioned a good thing about the importance of taking what you need assessing the situation no over kill backpack just to take a stroll in the woods half-hour away from your house. I do share your philosophy on most aspects of the reality of survival, especially carrying a saw and food.
Lars, Chris Thorn over at Drop Forged Survival showed TH-cam how he carried his Nails in an Altoids Tin in his Bug Out Kit. And since he lives in Texas and chose to Bug Out EARLY from Hurricane Harvey, he didn't need them. But he DID Stress that Nails should be part of everyone's Kit. It just makes a Rough Situation a little easier. Take Care.
Yep, nails make a lot of sense. Especially the large ones like you showed. That is indeed one of the things I never considered.
Nice tree stand Lars...I gives a real good field of view..
The hunting camp vids are gonna be Awesome!
Another fantastic video, I wish we could get some rain here. Great idea with the nails, they are very handy to have. I like that hunting stand you built, makes a huge difference. Have a great day my friend!
If you trim the tops off of the trees that are the legs of your stand, they won't cause everything to sway in the wind. Easier to not miss that way. The crop looks like oats. Black bears here love oats. Since the vipers are a dangerous nuisance, why aren't they routinely killed? This is especially true where kids are around. Thanks for the video. Nails and tie wraps are part of my kit.
Totally agree with the nails, I have three tube containers with different size nails kept in the car for when I need them.
Great video thanks for the tip. I have used a roll of stainless steel wire and safety wire pliers as they can spin the wire and make it very tight. If I had my choice between this and nails I would take the wire and pliers, as the wire for me has many more applications. Thanks for all your great videos. Cheers!
Always good practice to carry a few odd items in the pockets, it's better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it 👍🏻 atb Lars
Glad you got the vehicle running before the coming winter.
I use steel wire all the time on my allotment, only this week I used it to fasten together some pallets, wire trays together to build a huge compost bin
I have admired and respected most of the content on your videos, but I can't believe you would venture out without the ability to make easy fire. Guess it just comes from spending more days and nights than I can remember where fire was just so dang important. Like you, I carry probably 1/4 of what many feel necessary to survive. It really has so much to do with experience. When I vas a very young man back in the early 70's, I would go out for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, and often never run into another person. After one particularly long, cold, and snowy adventure, upon return, I realized that about all I had used out of my fairly well appointed kit was matches, my canteen, my cook pot (and food/fishing kit/.22 rifle) and my knife (which was just a slip joint pocket knife), and pretty much in that order. Fire, as well as a couple of other items were way ahead of my knife. Unless you are just amazing with friction fire in the rain, I think I would always have a ferro rod somewhere close by.
Mark Ashcroft- or you smoke cigarettes- a smoker is always two steeps ahead of the game. My opinion is you shouldn't plan to rely on fire but its a hell of a good back up and their are times when its saved my A&*. If I planning to stay out fire is not how I plan to stay warm- If I have to spend a night out by accident fire is what saves your life. If I go for a day hunt I make sure I can light a fire and I now take a saw but if I am planning to stay out I take a sleeping bag , A fire just scares all the animals away .
I said that the only tool I had with to make fire was my knife, remember ;) Fire was such a low priority on this little trip. Have a great weekend friend :) (I can't believe you went out with matches. Just kidding)
Mark Ashlock I
I don't carry nails but I'm a huge fan of steel wire. That works in urban and rural settings. I'll probably have to scrounge up some extra nails and make a small bundle for myself.
the nail thing is a very good idea, can't recall who tipped me off on the idea way back when, but i carry a bundle of concrete nails these days. very hard material. can be sharpened to make stuff. plus don't bend too easy.
you should do a video of starting a fire with a magnifying glass, it can be used to make a fire naturally with the heat from the sun if no other tool's to create fire is available, it also useful for other thing's such as needing to inspect object's with a more clear view etc.
Great statement, " It's all about planning!! " Absolutely brilliant.
Before all the gadgets like portable electric fences and metal tree stands came along, I've seen Canadian hunters make tree stands not just for hunting but to sleep in in bear country, it gave you a little bit more security as long as the bear wasn't determined and tried to wait you out at the bottom of the stand!
You are correct that you don't need a lot of gear in your farm wood lot. If you get turned around and don't know the direction home just sit and wait for a train to rumble down the tracks and then follow the direction of the sound to get home.
That will work if I'm not too far into the woods, or if it's not raining. Rain drowns out all other sounds.
I use 3 large 6 inche long nails as my lite weight stove , push the nails in ground to hold up a cups canteen , and use either a meth trianga burner or a hexi tab as the heat source .Keep up the good work , very interesting seeing what people in other countries do outdoors .Me I'm from NZ .
Another enjoyable video. I don't blame you for not wanting to eat the snake. I'm pretty sure you can find something else in those woods that would taste a lot better! Lol, I would definitely watch the snake episode if you do decide on that!
I got itchy watching you scratch all those mosquito bites.
Nails also make good tooth picks 👍🏻😂
Great video as always Lars!
Two videos in one day? Must be Christmas! XP
That's quite the tree fort you've got there. I wonder what will happen to it as the trees grow.
Nails are pretty useful!
Glad to hear you've got a good list of video ideas. I'll try to keep watching until you run out :)
Great idea. SOS step one survival spoke about this a month ago. Both have great points.
10 Days in the hospital...th/at's a serious snake. Thanks for 'nailing the subject' about that item.
You had me rolling with your comment, delivered totally deadpan, "I don't know if you know it or not, but nails have been used for quite a few years to build solid structures." LOL!! Very true, and I think this practical tool has been overlooked most of the time. Question for you, have you taken shots at big game from your stand in the trees before? I ask this thinking about the elk I shot last year. I didn't realize how little I was balanced on a narrow ledge until I fired. Just the bit of recoil made me fall over, and I wasn't shooting a cannon. -But the elk is delicious.
"I don't know if you know it or not, but nails have been used for quite a few years to build solid structures." Such sentence reminds me of "Today, which is the day after yesterday" and I can only say "Awesome!".
Have an idea for you about nails......use the nails designed for nail guns. They are glued or taped in a straight row so the fit in a magazine like cartridges in a firearm....they could be separated into whatever number you wanted, stacked, with their heads staggered.and taped up or wired......anyway maybe you already thought of this, but thought maybe i could help.....yours is a kick ass channel, always learn lots watching...
Lars around your hunting area for long term animal attraction I would suggest Huntarama new and improved salt/mineral blocks. They are quite portable and i have tried them with a game camera and they seem to work . If I get time I will post a video of how to make them. To-morrow i am heading out to check some more I have set out with a game camera although I forgot to GPS the location and its about an hours walk into the forest so im not overly hopeful of finding my game camera. They dont work that well around farm land as the fertilizer used largely meets the animals mineral requirements they seem to work best out in the deep bush, perhaps at your hunting cabin.
Huntarama baiting, cameras, what's next drones? Come on....hunt!
J Peters. Excellent idea I,M saving up for one. These days I find a SD card a lot easier to carry than a 100 kilo deer-Dam old age.
J peters took your advice and just went out and hunted but then i thought no I will get my camera out and video the F^%$#U& Gumboot ducks that just announced to every animal within 5 miles that Hunterama,s in town. Didnt see the very shootable deer siting 10 yards away. LOL i guess I just have sit in the spa watch the football and holler for a beer
I read a book by Eugene C. Morris called Hunting With Spears. He describes in detail how he hunts all kinds of big game from a tree stand. He uses other interesting techniques too but the tree stand in this video reminded me of that one. It was a great read for anyone who is interested. Just a heads up, there are some political tangents here and there. Gotta respect the guy for his accomplishments and passing on his knowledge.
catching up on what i missed.gr8 info here.ty Lars
Great video Lars, beautiful forest land!!!!
Something I've always wanted to try was Grouse. Ive done lots of quail and woodcock hunting, dove etc but never had the chance to hunt grouse
Love your channel! So glad I found it thanks to FNB's Siberian Fire lay video.
Thank you :)
Thanks for sharing! Enjoying the content you provide!
The black viper was an awesome thing to see.
I carry an assortment of nails n screws in my truck... along with a small bale of steel wire n roll of duck tape. They do come in handy!
I feel, after taking survival courses from a 30yr retired SERE trainer, that survival hype is, just how people use to live, that's all, it's living
Cable ties are super useful too :)
Great video Lars, really enjoyed that one. Me and Nephew watched this together, he has a request for you mate. His name is James and his ten and his question is: on your next video, can you please say "Get to the Chopper" and "Who is your Daddy and what does he do"....... he is a Huge Arnie fan and thinks you sound the same. lol. Cheers mate. ATB Moose & James
No problem mate :) Thanks guys :)
beautiful forest!! just supported you on patreon. love your videos.
Thank you Mark! :)
The farmer comment about nails and wire is so true. It applies worldwide.
It does I would guess :) Have a great weekend Rich.
I know this is old and late , prob never to be read.... but I just want to say THANK YOU.. for not doing the survival nonsense and eating a snake.... Cant tell you how tired I am of seeing PROFFESHIONALS eating snakes and or drinking pee. That may appeal to a 10 year old but I don't know many 10 year olds that need to know that.I have subbed and making my way through your content. your thoughts on environment, survival and being an out doors man are very much on par with my own.Keep it coming.
Super video, amazing nature.
I prefer to carry a few bricks and mortar to improvise a house. Kidding. love your videos!
Lars, don't know if you see that documentary/film, but it's awesome (ok, ok, tell me how I should pay for your copyright :). We can see several of the traditionnal Russian techniques and teachings there which you share to us. Very, very interesting. I spent 2 years with the Inuits here, and I confirm you that we share many and similar things with you guys,, the last real human beings of the North. Take Care Komrade. Oh, this film, was suggested to me by one of your followers, Circumpolar Bear Cult.
Love your videos, keep pumping them out.
What a fantastic view! You nailed it 😜
How far north is that place you live in, for example compared to Finland? It just seems like autumn isn't that prominent there yet.
Finland is country 1,160 km in length, roughly situated between the 60th and 70th parallels north. Lars' homestead is approximately 40 km north of the 58th parallel north. And I will say no more :)
Thanks, I didn't mean to pry his exact location, haha. Just wondering, since autumn is in full bloom here in Finland.
Thanks, like Oktober I like to know the general area of youtube filmers to get a rough idea of their area. I love seeing new places. Just a old man who likes to travel on Utube now.
great video ... I started to add more them in my setups. what kind/size or length was used to build this ladder S.R.
thanks for sharing. What can't one create with them C.R.
The bigger ones I showed are used for this stand. 5 - 5 inches / 10-12 cm long.
Good point with the nails. Thanks
I am going to carry screws now being they fit the same bits that go to some guns i carry. Great isea
Great video as well I carry a few nails myself, mostly for practising in trap making
Thanks Steve :) There's a bunch of traps you can make without nails. Here is one, if you have not seen it already :) th-cam.com/video/IXYNpPueP2w/w-d-xo.html
your right ,the nails are not necessary for traps, but a great thing to have and useful for lots of other stuff to
thanks for the link
much appreciated
Farmers do make great inventors, they must fix it or fail!
A couple of sticks of heat glue comes in handy on occasion
Great! I just stuck some in each of my bug out bags/food stashes. Thanks for the great idea!
The copper wire that comes from satellite tv line is amazing. Wife and i call it miracle wire.
Thats a great idea. thanks lars.
Lars dont want to be critical but I will be: Dosnt the height of your hunting stand put you out of range of most animals with a shotgun. You will end up stretching he barrel. Such an angle will also make it dam hard to hit anything
Evening Lars,Just thinking about the nails in a kit, what size nails and minimum quantity would you suggest? A question about the hunting platform, have you thought of putting roof on it, you could use the newly serviced cooker up there lol .
The ones I like and use is 10 - 12 cm long. Carry as many as you like, but 20-40 is a good number. I can throw a canvas tarp over the stand if needed. I will show that when I get there for hunting.
In your opening shot it looks like in the right top corner there a bunch of other houses is this a small town or all your land ? Kinda looks like a small neighborhood
Have you ever heard of the biolite camp stove? For longer trips it might be useful for keeping your cameras charged.
Lars, great video. A you said it's nothing, but for us non,Europeans, its fantastic. Just away from the back yard, Eating from the forest? Bear is it ok and worth it,? If so Show us. Nails are so useful hardly any one out of the real wilds like Russia carry them? what tool would you use in the fixing of nails, True a perfect tool would be best but bulky, where multi tool increases usage when needed. Cheers
Thanks Lars ,
Looks like a fantastic place to hunt Lars! Good luck! How big are the Moose in your part of the world?
Great video 👍😀
We use the same type the three stand .
Another great video, thank you!
In the US you are not aloud to drive nails on a managment area for hunting we use climber or ladder stands and straps
I don't know how useful a hunting spot like that could be for survival though. I don't think modern day hunters who go out into the Taiga for several weeks with minimal equipment rely on nails.
I don't know of any hunters going to the Taiga for several weeks with "minimal equipment" :) Such a stand will be perfect for sitting in and conserving energy, after setting as many traps as possible, if a person should be in a survival situation. A stand increases the possibilities of spotting game.

They certainly don't go in with months supply of food. They hunt most of the food they eat. I would consider that 'minimal equipment'.
Conserving energy and staying in 1 spot is great in a situation where you know people are coming to rescue you. Otherwise would moving and trying to find your way back to civilization is the best option no?
