Great Video dude!!! Tony Hawk 1 was originally meant to be nothing buy downhill racing tracks, but when they found how fun it was to just ride around instead, they made all the levels like that.
Tony Hawk's favorite ever level was the downhill track, hence why Activision made downhill jam on the wii, which apparantly didn't do very well.

i trust rockstar, they would make an awesome skateboarding game! they did it before!
but... look at GTA Online. it's basically a pay-to-win game by now.
Rockstar would probably squeeze every cent out of the players in a skateboarding game too.

Around the time THPS 1 and 2 came out there was a THPS forum on a site called Delphi and some of the better players on there were doing incredible lines in THPS 1. Really pushing what you thought was possible in those early games. The developers had a meet up with fans at a skate park in my town and I met a guy named Aaron who worked for Neversoft, he gave me a bunch of spiderman stickers and a spiderman poster and was a really friendly guy. Once other kids there found out who he was I remember everyone swarmed him and were asking a bunch of questions, it was great. One kid really wanted to know if you could skate outside of the Burnside level in THPS1, it was a huge rumor back then. :)

A buddy and I used to play thps3 with zeroed out stats to make realistic lines. Then one day we came across a used copy of thrasher. @@mistamontiel00 I played thps back when I was little and picked up thps 1+2 and like it. Ppl say it feels like real skating, but I disagree. Its an arcade style game and just unrealistic. Imo, the real skateboard game of today is skater xl. There's challenges but only to !ale you better at the game. Other than that, it's all about finding spots and doing a line and making a video. It gets to where I take like an hour to make my line perfect which is what real skating is. I never played thrasher though.

THPS was a game-changer but it's really wild to see other games from around that same time trying to cash-in on the craze in their own way... it's like seeing an alternate-universe THPS. I take offense to the PSX version of THPS4. That game was awesome, having a ps1 game that had most of the iconic features of the ps2 Tony hawk games in a PSX games was very fun since you couldn't really play THPS2 with the same insane combo mechanics that most ps2 games had. THPS4 feels like playing THPS2, but with revert, spine transfers, balance meters, linking grinds, pivots, triple flips etc.

Ayy, I just wanted to say man, I absolutely LOVE your channel. I've been interested in skateboarding pretty much since the original THPS came out when I was a kid, but can't actually skate due to the fact that I use a wheelchair. I kinda lost interest in it when I was a teenager, but fell down a skating rabbit hole on youtube after watching some Richie Jackson and The Gonz vids. Your channel popped up, and I've just been going through your back catalog for like...a month now. I really love and appreciate this channel and all the skate history and stuff. Super cool.
Why don't you have a Patreon? I feel like if you had one, you might be able to do this as a full-time job eventually. I know that I'd love to throw some money your way.

I remember playing a demo disc that had thrasher on it at a buddies house, we both played it for days! The whole vibe is what really makes it special. First off it starts you out in free play, then you can actually start the contest without backing out into the menu's, so it felt really natural once you warmed up you could play to get the point requirements. The clothes are baggy, the music is dope grungy rap, fuck the police vibe, it really made you feel like your skating the streets. The level design felt like a real city or actual real spots to skate. The flow of the game is what i really like, it's much slower, you spin slow and tricks actually spin pretty close to real life, so it made doing complex tricks more satisfying. I liked tony hawk games played the shit out of them all once I was younger, but now 20 years later I'm still playing Thrasher. As you get older you just want to play for a bit, so i really like that, you can play the whole game in roughly a half hour if your decent. If you guys want another great game, I recommend Dave Miras freestyle BMX which also does the 90's vibe justice.

Rocket Power: Agreed, everything played terribly but snowboarding was far and above the worst.
Street Sk8er: Yeah, not that much to it and not that much to keep you playing.
Street Sk8er 2: Levels were surprisingly big with multiple paths. Kept discovering new things and then only had like 30 seconds to run through them to the next checkpoint. Was cooler to mess around in free-play than do the races.
MTV Skateboarding: The delayed ollie literally makes this game unplayable to me. I could not get over it.
1Xtreme, 2Xtreme, 3Xtreme - haven't played them. Apparently having a copy of ESPN Extreme Games pre-rebrand can net me some cash?
Grind Session: Interesting selection of pros and a cool way of laying out levels with the tech lines and adding time back in. Too bad it is sort of awkwardly bare-bones caught in between Thrasher and Tony Hawk.
Thrasher: I am literally playing that right now. The controls do still trip me up but I am really enjoying getting better at the game. High scores really do mean getting smooth, solid runs instead of doing long, tense combos.
Tony Hawk 1: Classic.Tony Hawk 2: The classic-est. I know how you feel with knowing it so well - me, personally, I DID draw Garibaldi from SSX Tricky as a kid because of how well I knew that.
Tony Hawk 3 (PS1): Haven't actually played this one.
Tony Hawk 4 (PS1): Tinkered around some to see what it was like. It really is weird to compare it to its next-gen version. Still a solid game and still very playable.
Good luck with the whole PS2/Gamecube/Xbox collection. There's some real weird games you haven't gotten to yet...

Street Sk8er gave me so many hours she hours of playing it to death man I loved it. I couldn’t afford tony hawks till ages after it came out and bought it 2nd hand. I bought street sk8er for either £5 or £10 and got tons of money’s worth out of it. Plus the disc was a cd you could play it’s music. Soundtrack was incredible

THPS1 is still my favourite skateboarding PS1 game, probably because it was the one I played the most. I still remember getting it Christmas Morning in 1999. Its soundtrack also inspired my taste in music as I got older. I love that game, and I still have my original copy, but it is showing its age.

I'm thinking about porting thrasher to the Sega Saturn roughly. Anyone know if the 3D models are ripped? Might do street skater since it's easier and more arcade/Sega like

    THANK YOU
Iv been trying to remember thrasher for a very long time, I wanted to listen to the theme song that I still remember from where I was super young.
I remember playing it on a demo disk and I thought up in till now it was a Tony Hawk game. But you reminded me that you get chased at the end and set a lot of bells off for me. THANKS

excellent list! personally I would switch THPS 2 and thrasher skate and destroy. though THPS2 was a better built game, thrasher was a more important to skateboarding as a whole. thrasher was the only true depiction of what skateboarding actually was and went beyond what tony hawks pro skater presented. tony hawks pro skater showed skateboarding from the perspective of a professional. big name sponsors and pulling off tricks with ease was the theme. thrasher showed the perspective of the average skater. small homegrown brands, every trick felt difficult and getting kicked out of spots was the theme.
my personal top 3 would be thrasher, thps2 and grind session in that order.

man there is such a hole in the industry for a skating game, Rockstar needs to make a new skate and destroy. as well done as their maps are on the gta series they could knock the level design out of the park and nowadays they would have the ability to really smooth out the gameplay

Ok, was the team behind 2Xtreme, the same group that did "Skitchin" (1994)? because the look and feel is so similar- except, of course, that Skitchin was amazing!

I feel like THPS4 for PS1 is neat to play if only to see how they interpreted the PS2/Cbox/Gamecube version for a previous gen system

I can agree on every single word you said about THPS2. I guess it's my all time favorite video game and School 2 is my favorite level as well. Would have been Philadelphia but the physics vs level object/layout dimensions doesn't make completely satisfying and proper lines on the Love fountain ledges.

I suddenly recalled a very old fever dream like memory of me and my sister player a weird skate game where you have to finish a track while everything looking dark and dangerous. So I came here and now you reminded me of the name of the game. MTV Skateboarding

I tell it in Rocket Power video and I'll tell it again - stucking in air is NOT a glitch but a feature which is very usefull for getting points
