    My boyfriend got his multi tool yesterday and had nothing but problems with it. He thinks he got a bad one from the factory. After seven hours of tinkering over the course of two days (yesterday and today) it’s finally in a useable condition, but he’s not very thrilled with the tool. The pin that holds the small tools was misaligned causing the hot swap bar to bind causing the tools (including the knife blade) to flop out.

    Really like the design and options. The clumping would drive me mad, i am used to the big Swisstool since early 2000s and this one is super elegant, need one tool, pull it out. Maybe in future iterations they could make these small cuts in the retention that makes this possible and also make it tighter, looks all lose and wobbly. Sadly i could not buy one, in germany we dont use creditcards all that much and they dont offer paypal at kickstarter:/

    This will be my first decent multi-tool, I found the fact I can put brass scales attractive, but, because I live in Australia, I can't carry a knife. Being able to remove it is a win for me. There doesn't seem to be any multi-tools without a blade except for the (bladeless) Rebar. (Big $ here compared to the US). Can't wait for it to show up.

    • @edwardfletcher7790
      @edwardfletcher7790 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      In QLD you can carry a pocket knife perfectly legally.
      In other states you can carry a multitool or pocket knife with a lawful purpose. Eg: Use it for work, part of my toolkit, going fishing, going to mates place to fix his car etc etc
      Our knife laws are aimed at gangs (who mainly carry kitchen knives ) & scumbags, but have badly impacted the EDC community ☹️
      The law is basically at the discretion of the individual Police officer, if you're a 15yo "gangster" you're in trouble, if you're a 33yo tradie it's not going to be a problem.

    • @conradchester1246
      @conradchester1246 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When I decide to get one, I'll be swapping out the blades for the safety blade/seatbelt cutter since those are legal to carry anywhere in Australia.

    • @edwardfletcher7790
      @edwardfletcher7790 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@conradchester1246 FYI it's 100% legal to carry a Swiss Army knife in QLD. It's specifically mentioned in the law.
      Other states tend to vary wildly based on location. Carrying a Surge is probably the norm in Darwin, but might get you in serious trouble on a Sydney train.
      Most states specify that you need a "lawful reason" to be carrying a knife or multitool.
      That could be "Going fishing", "Going to a mates to fix his Ute" or "My car is old & breaks down a lot".
      The Laws unfortunately seem to be written to give police discretionary power based on person/place/attitude rather than having able to simply prove : "I'm a Tradie not a meth addled Street kid with a carving knife".
      I'm an Electronics Tech and I've carried my SAK daily for 40yrs, I'm not stopping now because crims are attacking each other with cleavers.

    I can't tell how deep the carbide insert cavity is, how much material is behind the insert? It seems like a possible failure point on those pliers. Either way it's an interesting tool. I may not be replacing my leatherman just yet, but I'd like to see what they produce next. I'd definitely jump on a modular mini-tool with a similar form factor to the powerpint.

      I agree, I think the concept of the GOAT is brilliant, with the ease of swapping, but the form factor is just too big for my edc.
      I’d like to build a blade-less power pint 2.0 (to complement a real knife), with some decent shears, the ability to properly use a t-shank jigsaw blade and perhaps a scalpel or craft knife. The ability to easily customise would be huge.

    I ordered mine early in the Kickstarter campaign, but when I finally got it I had a lot of trouble with the scissors. They don't have enough spring tension to open back up between cuts and they unlock when the blades are together. Also they are very loose when closed into the handle and they fall open. I tried replacing them with the cutting hook, but that falls open too. Everything I try to put where the scissors were is loose, and I can't get the pivot screw on that end any tighter.

    Great overview! Even though I don't have mine yet, there are things I already want to swap around. That's why I ordered some of the "extras" like the bottle/can opener.
    Near the end of the video, you mentioned "this is not a replacement for the Leatherman Wave or Swisstool MX Clip..."

      @@christopherroth7239 I don't think they were comparing it to anything. Dom talked about it as did Gideon Tactical. @@hificat101 Anyone can say something is priced too high but if they are not backing that claim with data then it's just their opinion. No TH-cam reviewer has any idea what leathermans, or any other manufacturers, producrion costs are. So again, if any of them are going to compare pricing they need to compare tools of comparable quality made in the same country. Anything else is just them talking to hear themselves talk. I guess the main thing I am saying is don't let you tube reviewers opinions about prices stop you from buying what you want.

    That big screwdriver with the hex cut out is probably designed that way on purpose. Seems obvious that the point of the hex is a major stress riser and its positioned right across the face of the tool. The guys designing this are definitely smart enough, highly doubt thats an oversight. More likely engineered failure. That thing is so big, someone will end up using that as a pry bar in some crazy situation and breaking the whole tool. The way it comes, you just break the one part.

    I would buy the Arc, but the spring loaded pliers on this are calling me.
    Will try it out for the price of the Wave+!
    Edit: received mine, so far it’s pretty impressive. It even arrived with the first change already implemented!

    I’m a leatherman guy. I’ve had tons and will continue to have them. Just got the Arc. But I have a problem, knife laws prohibit blades where I work. One crabby person and I’m suddenly a felon. I’m 110 percent interested in making this my work day multi tool.

  • @Steve_C548
    @Steve_C548 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have about decided to get one of these. One thing that made me stay away from the many well designed import multi tools you have shown is the steel they use. I always thought something like the Multi-force would still be a bargain with decent steel at twice the price. 2 or 3Cr steel is just not worth it at any price in my opinion. Here you get pretty decent steel. I think 420 HC gets a bad rap, and is plenty tough for my uses. So in a way you get the upgrade steel and for not a whole lot more you get the added modularity, all for less than half the price of an ARC. Kind of waiting on the Roxon Flex, but I like the outside accessible big 4 like on the GOAT.
    Something I immediately wondered about was a SOG style bit driver in the plier end of the handle. Maybe design or patent prohibited, but would be handy and allow doe a bit driver option there allowing for another tool arrangement on the inside.

    Great videos on these tools. However, I still have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere. Where are GOAT Tools and their parts made? I've done internet searches, looked on reddit, and even the company's site. Can't find it. I've paid as close attention as possible to videos and don't see "made in ____" anywhere. Can anyone tell me where they are actually made?
    OH, and thanks for highlighting that 711L Hex Bit extender and giving a link for it. That is going to be my bit extender regardless of what multitool I choose. The next amazon order I make it's definitely going in the cart!

      @maxlvledc  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All made in China, basically there is no way to start a Multitool company differently. Eventually he wants to make it usa made...but that will lead to significant price hikes.

    • @form4li7y
      @form4li7y 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@maxlvledc Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. I spent the better part of an hour trying to find that info. Tried videos, reddit, official web site and multiple searches with google, bing and even a bit with duckduckgo. When I didn't find an answer I figured it would be china. Wish he would have been upfront about it. Than I wouldn't rank the company any lower than Gerber or SOG. Between the hiding and some of the design choices of the tools, I'll consider GOAT last.
      I get that producing in America can lead to a cost issue. It's a valid reason to produce elsewhere to an extent. Getting a new company off the ground is one of them. It's hiding it that gets to me more. When companies get cute by trying to side step with "assembled in America." try to hid it all together, or use "made in the USA" as a reason to price gauge, it makes me want to pass and look at clones. If what I'm buying is china I might as well reward the honesty, save some money, and take advantage of some redesigns.
