I’m really scared of storms, so as a means to overcome it, I’m taking the exposure therapy route by watching videos of people who literally camp during this sort of weather. Seeing how enthusiastic and calm you were reassured me that my fear isn’t something to become terrified of. Nature isn’t our enemy. Thanks for your bravery!
Ikr? I feel like I’d freak out. I’m not afraid of storms really, but it’s different to experience it inside your home where you know you’re protected, and in a camping tent 😰 I don’t think I’d react as calmly as he did to a tornado warning 😂
there's nothing that tops an old home with a front porch built for summer storms sitting on a swing bench or a rocking chair experiencing the storm without many of its dangers
I slept in my tent with my dog through a storm just like that last summer. the next morning, I left everything and went home. when I came back the next morning after another storm had gone through the previous night, the tent had collapsed. So glad I listened to my gut and didn't try to ride out a second night in the tent in that kind of weather. it was nerve racking to say the least... but I was hell bent on having the experience and now I can say I did that!! and lived... my dog slept right through the whole thing...haaa!! nothing bothers him at night...
When I can’t fall asleep, I watch your adventures. I especially enjoy the storms and your various tents. I feel like I and all your fans are with you hiking or setting up camp! Soon I’ll be living in a travel trailer near a creek and hiking in the forests of Arizona.
ive started listening to luke just before i sleep and funnily enough i search especially for the stormy weather ones...it'a a nice peacefull way to fall asleep with lukes voice and a storm.

Thank you.

My brother and I, when we were younger and camping on the beach, we were caught in an all out monsoon it seemed. We could feel the ocean water coming up under our tent, and the rain pounding us from above with wind beating the snot out of us. I still love camping in the rain as an adult... but with a hammock and an extra large tarp in addition to the hammock cover. Love what you do, Luke! Be safe and keep up posting!
Hi Luke, I hope when you got home some hot food and a warm bath awaited! The only adventure I had this past seven days was to clean 26 years of junk and living out of our garage. My honey did quite the job sorting, and I did all the heavy lifting. We filled a 10x 7x4 dumpster full. We gave away anything useful.
Awesome! The joy of this channel is the demonstration in REAL weather conditions, and the expert advice on how you handle it. I thought you would have set up a more “closed” tent configuration, but you had that open to the elements! That water bucketing down from that corner is an example I hadn’t thought of, to funnel the water that way. Thanks Luke!

Hey Robert I love the rain also. I survived the World Trade Centers first Bombing by minutes and a month before 9/11 I was working on the 104 floor but was out for hip surgery and then 6 years ago I was diagnosed with a giant brain tumor. There was one in our 24 hour Ration packs. I am going to scroll about and find more of your adventures. Stay safe.
I've commented on that 10'x10' Aquaquest tarp before, but i can't say it enough - it's the perfect all around shelter. I've used mine in place of a tent or to extend our dry space at camp with other people. Best purchase ever. And that forest! Rain and a hot cup of coffee, yes indeed. I grew up in a Commercial fishing family and the trip to and from Alaska from Seattle is some of the best scenery. For me my happy time was dog watch. Sitting with the wheelhouse windows open, The heave smell of pine and salt water and a cup of hot coffee with the heavens laid out above as you just cant see them in a city or town. Sometimes Id hang my head out the window or even after watch in the predawn dark I would walk to the bow, Kneel and rest my head on my arms looking down at the bow cutting through the water. Sometimes the phosphorus was so thick it would light the wake up like a small flashlight. If we had Porpoise in on the bow you could track them and see there every movement. Then getting to share that with my daughter was the second happiest day of my life. Seeing her fall in love with the sea and nature as I did. True Happiness is sharing your bliss with those you love.
Good video Brother. I wanna join the club lol. Rain and Inclement weather is my absolute favorite as well. There's just nothing like it. Especially on an Adventure. Stay safe out there..
That storm treated us similarly here in Matthews. We had maybe half hour of rain w/10 minutes of hail. But in our case, the sun popped right back out w/rainbows in tow. Be safe my friend !
I remember a backpacking trip we went on in northern New Mexico. We got into a storm that dumped over an inch of hail in the ground. My sisters were freezing and my Dad made the right call. We all turned around and headed back to the car. Disappointed with the outcome, but I knew we did the right thing and avoided someone getting sick or hurt. That trip taught me exactly what you were talking about being flexible. Great trip, fun video! Thanks!
Sweet!!! I too love hiking & camping in the rain. My dad always called me his little puddle duck...Lol. Great video, as always!! Thanks for taking us along.
Oh hell yeah! ! ! Luke, Tony, count me in: I LOVE trips in the rain. I'm from Seattle, Washington where most of us have webbed feet anyway, so yeah, the rain is never an issue. My wife hates the rain the thunder, but I love it. There is nothing like a hot meal, hot coffee and the sound of the rain pounding on the tarp or tent and free light show you get from mother nature. Thanks for sharing that hike with us all. Wish I'd been there with you! ! ! Brian
Something so lovely about the sounds of fresh rain when you're tucked up warm in bed...this is one of the most realistic sounding I've heard, thank you!
Hey Luke, these are the videos that are adventurous! And i love them! Getting to see new areas in the forest, never know what you will find! Awesome share!
Luke your so SOOO right sir, one,, too me your mindset makes or breaks you. Where others will fell you will flourish with the right one. An in the hour of your deepest darkness you " I pray so very hard, an know there will be a sunshine" if you keep pumping your knees! " this was a thing a sixth grade football couch told me." You never stop! My belief in the good Lord, my family, is what makes me believe in myself. So when you have an awesome excitement of being in the woods under dire circumstances, you pop out a five minute shelter an set your mind at ease an enjoy a so so cup of coffee. You sir are blessed!
Ancient Boreal Forests are gorgeous, definitely have to watch your step in them for sure. That was a wallop of a storm! Good stuff man glad you're safe.
The rain sounds great. We haven't received rain like that in a while. It rained in the city of Lubbock. I live outside the city limits ☺️☺️. Thank you for sharing your journey. God bless
All your videos always great to watch and learn from. I appreciate all your time on doing what you do for all of us viewers, thank you Luke and always be safe. Luis
Amazing Adventure, loved it!!! I will start watching your videos more often, i truly loved it, love the rain and the storms and the camping, the tarps, the coffee. Great Video. Thank you so much for sharing.
I also love tarps! Yes, I agree a tarp shelter can be pitched anywhere even with trees absent. I noted you never use hiking poles, manufactured or self made. Either can be used to set up an emergency shelter. I've used two lengths of willow branches to set up a Swedish ground shelter that will defy very strong winds. My survival bag in my van (full time van lifer) includes a safari 10X10 Aqua Quest and an emergency two-sided blanket from a ground sheet and for a visual rescue needed set up. I love your tarps color, and that of your apparel and pack. Great adventure with great survival advice...you rock, Luke!
Once again I am absolutely astounded by the high-quality Taster's Nasty content in Luke's videos. I love the over-night camps, the day trips, the honest dialogue, the cinematography, the musical conclusions, and of course the agenda-free gear reviews; but the Taster's Nasty content on this channel is off the hook. It keeps bringing me back again and again. Some rain, a tarp, and a cup of the Nasty is all a man needs to find peace in the great outdoors.
Love all your videos, but especially your hiking and backpacking videos. This video gives me Les Stroud vibes, your camera skills have came a long way. Keep up the great work, looking forward to your future videos 👍🏻
Be careful out there, black bears are not always afraid of people. A man that was very experienced like you said the same thing you did and was pulled from his tent in the night by a 500 lb. black bear and eaten. It only takes one time to end up dead. I always have bear spray and guns, it pays to be careful.
All my life I've had a love for thunderstorms as long as they weren't too close for the lightening to strike by me. I even have Cds that have the sounds of stormy nature. I am now in the mid 60s live alone and find myself more concerned when severe whether approaches. Is this normal? God can be quite frightful with weather but we have to trust Him to keep us safe. That's why I'm confused about my fear. It's great to see your videos as they help fulfill the life experiences many of us cannot attain. Thank you for the work you do. Setting up the cameras for different shots must be hard. Thank you for your effort. It means a lot to many people.
I'm always learning from watching your videos. Thank you. I have been camping since I was a little kid. But never paid any mind to it because the grownups do all the work. Now that I'm older. I enjoy camping even more but have noticed all the mistakes I've made with my gear. Watching your videos Has shown me how to buy the correct gear and enjoy my camping even more. Thank you very much.
Luke, thanks for all the work. I had a disaster at the races last weekend but really enjoyed the camping and thats very much down to you and Suzie. I'm going for a trip out tomorrow for a coffee in a local forest. Thanks man SP
One time I went camping I woke up one morning and the forest was on fire after a dry thunderstorm and God was with me that day Lucky for me I ran down the mountain pretty quickly maybe 20 minutes
I spent quite a few years working for a ski area in northern New Mexico. Your comment about black bears being scared , reminded me of a couple of times while using a mulcher to stop some erosion. I had a 100 foot of hose stretched out and turned around to find a very curious bear about half way between me and the truck. They eventually walked away. But not before hanging out long enough to make me nervous. We were probably 5-6 miles from paved road or anything. Anyway just sharing fond memories
Great video, Luke. Awesome stuff. 👍🏽 makes me want to get out and explore some of the mountains and bushlands in my local area down here in Australia. Thanks for the inspiration, mate. Cheers
Enjoyed every minute of this trip. I've had some moments before, where I wondered if I was going to make it back one piece. At least I'd go out happy. 😁
I need to get one of those tarps myself, but I'd probably go with a different Aquaquest model instead. I build my gearkit around optional visibility. There are high-vis items in the kit (including some items I can simply reverse to a reflective side), but the primary configuration is designed to blend in.
When I seen the Mayfield tornado approaching on stream, I turned the scanners on. Within minutes I hear someone report a train car was thrown across the road. You'd have to find a decent Boulder. Remember, them trees are flying missiles, even shredding itself into missile splinters. The tornado myth of they dont crawl up mountains is proven very wrong as well. Although you'd wanna be on the opposite side of the tornado direction. Great thinking with the rock idea, I don't think many would of thought of it. Simplest precautions can save your life.
Saying his final goodbye, drinking disgusting coffee, whilst a mega storm cell takes over....and Luke is laughing, saying it was a good_death lol!! does Suzy know she is married to a mad man ?! jk thx for the trip, awesome!
Hope you have a handgun with you when you go on these treks alone. It’s always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. 👍 Stay safe out there.
I love tarp camping! I have ridden out some hellish weather underneath of a 6 x 8 tarp. Some think that I am weird for taking a tarp and a closed-cell foam pad on even a day hike. You never know what can happen & tarps are so fast and easy to set up. That was intense! I love going backpacking in the rain; it is nature's crowd control.
Cell phone gps even with an app like Gia is super dangerous in remote areas. There’s a reason search and rescue use high end stand alone units- they rescue people who get lost using phone gps on a regular basis
Hello I really enjoyed your videos I am a retired US Marine in the second Recon. Your Ventures are fun to watch bring back a lot of memories when I was young. At this present time I am totally living off the grid in middle of a forest have been for the last 9 years getting away from it all love the story about the rain yes it is fantastic here in Oregon we don't get much lightning especially along the coast but we do get some hellafied wind storms and Ice storms we see winds up to 70 miles to 100 miles an hour but my place Stands Strong it's not a cabin I have an A-frame and I have a canvas tent under the A-frame covered in tarps again enjoyed your videos.
Ive been blessed this past christmas with that Garmin watch. It was totally changed the way I hike in the backcountry. It helps me get away from pulling out the phone to navigate.
Awesome video! I love camping in rain as well. I often plan camping trips based on storms and my family thinks I'm crazy. That forest was amazing as well. What a great place!
I think there's something almost genetic about being able to relax in a rain storm. Anciently, we knew instinctively, threats tend to hunker down during a rain storm, so you also can relax.
Elaine: [sobbing] Oh, God. I'm so sorry. I don't even know where I'm going. J. Peterman: Well, that's the best way to get someplace you've never been. While you were hiking out, what you were saying reminded me of that Seinfeld episode. Great work and thank you for the content!

Thanks!
What an amazing storm! I love being in the middle of storms like that. Love camping in storms also. Thank you for sharing your journey 😊
Sweet!!! I too love hiking & camping in the rain. My dad always called me his little puddle duck...Lol. Great video, as always!! Thanks for taking us along.
4:37 it really looks like someone standing in the distance by a tree. I know it probably is just another tree, but man it looks creepy af! 😳
I noticed that too. If figure it was Bigfoot.
Do you take emergency things with you in your bag? Maybe extra snacks or something in case you get stuck or lost?
I LOVED this video, I would have been terrified being out there in that storm, you are the best!!!
Oh you would be just fine.Confidence!!👌
I believe that if I can servive in the woods like that I probably won't be afraid but I'm afraid of running into a 🐻
Oh hell yeah! ! ! ! Brian
I find storms relaxing.
Something so lovely about the sounds of fresh rain when you're tucked up warm in bed...this is one of the most realistic sounding I've heard, thank you!
Fantastic storm, it’s great to experience these trips vicariously, also a lot warmer and safer, thanks again.
Good evening .Luke. I watch AB Camping all the time. ..thank you for the video's .i hope you and Susie are doing. Good.
Tony & Bruce would have had a blast with you!! They love that weather!! Thanks again for your videos. Always learning from you. Keep safe.
Thank You for taking us along on this adventure! !!
Production quality on this video was fantastic Luke! Loved it!
Maryann here again and I do love Tony and Bruce’s channel.
Would have been a great night to camp! I sleep so good when the rain beats on the tent 👍
I just love that build-up before a storm , It's calming in a way for me and that kind of weather is perfect ,with all the winds
Love all your videos, but especially your hiking and backpacking videos. This video gives me Les Stroud vibes, your camera skills have came a long way. Keep up the great work, looking forward to your future videos 👍🏻
Love the Aquaquest tarps..great products. Prayers for you that all is well. Thanks for sharing
I bet that forest is very creepy at dusk, especially by yourself. You're the man for doing this.
More like naturally beautiful.
Depends how many Japanese horror films you've seen 😂
Always a pleasure to stop by and have a coffee with Luke. Peace.
This storm would've been a perfect test night 😂
That looks like the CCC forests we have around here. Replanted in straight rows by people with machines after logging.
That's what I was thinking.
Yes, old logging roads, trees planted in something resembling rows, and most all of the trees are 'young' - certainly not an old growth forest.
Cheers
The sheet under the seat is genius. & this why I keep coming back Luke (-:
Enjoyed every minute of this trip. I've had some moments before, where I wondered if I was going to make it back one piece. At least I'd go out happy. 😁
Great attitude 👍
Been watching Tony and Bruce since he started. Love them and now I’m glad I found you! Enjoyed this very much and can’t wait for more.
You and Tony and Bruceie are the only campers I watch. Love you both!
TARPS, you got to be kidding.
The forest that was covered in moss was just so surreal. And the storm that passed over you was a blast to watch from my nice warm house.
Good point.
Love the rain sound on the tarp so crisp, puts me to sleep, thank you for all your hard work, be safe, hope you do not get sick from the cold and rail
Awesome video! I love camping in rain as well. I often plan camping trips based on storms and my family thinks I'm crazy. That forest was amazing as well. What a great place!
Love the sound of falling rain.
We sit on our patio to listen to rain drops falling on our roof.
I think there's something almost genetic about being able to relax in a rain storm. Anciently, we knew instinctively, threats tend to hunker down during a rain storm, so you also can relax.
Nature requires patience and respect, just like people. Enjoyed this video. Not much rain in Southern California. I
also watch Tony's videos.
Hi Luke, I am also a big fan of the rain so this was a perfect video for me, thank you.
AB Camping is a must see. His dog Bruce is a border collie and he is a great mate for the trek.
I find the sound of rain so relaxing I use sleep sound apps to fall asleep to
When the film goes all the way back to the vehicle at the end, I feel better knowing he's safe.
