Good honest review of the ups and downs of having a simpit. I have triple 55 tv and 5 touch screens that allow me to fly near enough any plane, but you are right, the messing about you have to do is a right royal pain in the arse....
Interesting video. I think your sim is one of the best Cessna sims I have seen. If you are interested in the procedures aspect though and learning to fly in a sim, have you considered a third party Cessna? The Airfoil Labs one is very well regarded. I bought their new analogue guage one, but they have a G1000 version also. It has the ability to simulate many failures and also allows you to do things like walkaround aircraft checks. Having said that though I am having difficulties getting it working properly with my multi-computer setup. Most third party aircraft seem to expect it to all run on one PC
cheers mate. To be honest I actually was considering this but havent gone down this route for a couple of reasons.... 1. Not sure if I can strip elements off the plane to make it look like I want from Planemaker 2. The walk around I am assuming would need to be done via the operator station and once loaded I tend to turn the Op station off for performance reasons (dont need to generate a 4th monitor). Having said that could do the walk around from the Op station and then turn off before getting into the aircraft. Do you know how flexible the plane is to modify in planemaker?
@CessSim I guess the issue would be that if you stripped things off the plane or modified the positioning of the parts, you'd see those modifications when walking around it. It might look rather odd
thanks mate and completely agree on the physical vs VR. Having said that I reckon mixed reality isnt far away and that would be a potential game changer for those with physical cockpits as provides the best of both worlds......
Love it! I have a similar set up and the cost is expensive but it's only money, lol. I bought two boat seats from amazon and they're perfect. NORTHCAPTAIN S1 Deluxe High Back Folding Boat Seat(2 Seats),White/Charcoal,Stainless Steel Screws Included
Cheers mate and good idea. I was actually thinking of something like that from the marine side and will check it out further. How have you mounted them?
@@CessSim yes, I built a riser from wood wrapped in carpet, I installed a piece of plastic on the bottom of frame for easily sliding back and forth in the sim
Thanks mate. Appreciated. Due to the physical frame size and proximity from glareshield to rear TV you cannot move closer on my setup. The side TVs are about 30mm from the outside edge of the frame so pretty close. Have a build series where I show the Fusion360 model which may be of value to you....thanks for watching..
Huge fan of your setup…the side panels just really add to it. The fact I’ve got mine setup for MSFS works against me in that…I’m so jealous of those. Also jealous of having the operator station…may have to try something like that myself. Just amazing setup…
@@flightsimdeskukthank you! I can’t tell you how many poor practice instruments were harmed during the making of my cockpit…but many 3D pieces were sacrificed. CessSim’s setup looks very clean/refined to me and I really like how he customized the visuals to work well with those side panels.
@shadetrehomesim I think the same goes for most flight simmers. Even those that aren't trying to make a realistic looking cockpit. If its not instruments then it's controller hardware, flight sim addons or computer or screen upgrades. Flight sims are never "done". Lol
I had a similar configuration of entering from the rear and used two Volvo 70 front seats aquired from a scrapyard. They look the part and are mounted on low rise boxes and move foreward and backwards on small wheels. It was difficult to enter & exit as one seat had to be pushed forward & the other back. I have since moved from Qld to WA having demolished & rebuilt the shell. It now has side doors with monitors bolted to the doors and the rear is enclosed with a rear facing opening for cooling on those +40c days.No use to you with your monitor set up but the Volvo leather seats could be useful at $40 each? We might pass each other at 5000 feet one day. I copied your flareshield design. Onwards and upwards.
cheers mate and thanks for the feedback. Good to hear from a fellow WA lad !! I figured would be an issue with the seats and I reckon the only proper way around this is to set a J-rail design similar to the airliners, but pretty far down the priority list. I want to get the Yokes self-centering first (with perhaps some force feedback). Thanks for tuning in mate !!
Great looking sim, you can be proud 🎉 Are you using headsets when flying with a copilot and using the microphones to communicate with each other? Like an intercom.
@@CessSim me too. Maybe I just haven’t figured out the correct “opening settings” for the mic, or I need better microphone foam or something so it doesn’t pick up ambience as easy.
The PC alone was A$7K. TV's another $6K. In total I reckon the setup owes me about $20-25K...............plus a crap load of time in designing and building
oh my lord. actually I am a CFI and I had plan to make one not only for myself but for my own student . I never thought it is that expensive. holy molly@@CessSim
@@user-kp3fw4zd3c You can go cheaper. Don't have to run such an expensive pC if not getting 3 x TVs at 2K and 4K resolution....Have seen many good setups for less than 10K.
Mate you have def created a beast of a simulator! I look up to your build and would say it’s one of the nicest 172 home sim i’ve seen.
cheers buddy and thanks for that. Nice to hear and does make me proud of what has been created (although always room to improve !).....
