I have enjoyed flight simulation for many many years, and whilst I am not a qualified pilot (at least not yet), I was inspired to build my own creation and learn from all those talented people in the TH-cam community.
Flight simulation is such a great hobby, and I hope I can give back into this community by sharing stories of my journey (and my mistakes !), learning how to fly the glass cockpit C172, but most importantly..............having fun !
See you in the sky !

193 - VatPac Team Canberra (YSCB) Landings
Unfortunately I was not able to live stream for this event, however I did manage to grab a few of the guys coming in at Canberra (YSCB) which had both tower and ground controllers on in VatSim.
Great to watch the guys from the ground for a change, and I hope you enjoy it (especially the last one !!)
Apologies in advance for the audio.......

@@peterrowney5180 looked good to me. If only I could see you !!!
I was one of the obs (observers) on vatsim at Canberra and was listening on that particular aircraft pzz was slightly doing things to deliberately to get attention.
We had to call supervisor on one of the aircraft (none of the VFR regulars). The tower was going insane.
I think I was listening to some of that and detected a little frustration coming from the tower. Sounds like an aircraft wasnt playing nice !
Yes all good Jason
OK please feel free to reach out if I can assist any further.
I can see the model
Yes you are
??
Your apologies accepted. I also must offer mine as I got sidetracked with other stuff and didn't join in but enjoyed the replay in Part 1 and Part 2. Just creating your flight plan so I can give it a go.
thanks Howie. I must have a significant audience in the USA as majority of people dialled in for the last 30 mins of the stream. .... Thanks for your ongoing support, greatly appreciated.
Did you model the side panel dimensions from the real plane?
Not quite. Initially I used a combination of dimensions that I grabbed from various internet sources, plus the side profile of the C172 from the Pilot Operating Handbook. Purposely, I made the windows larger than normal to take advantage of the 55" screens. Its pretty close but not 100%. The overall width (inside) is about 70mm wider than normal C172.
Loved every second of this video. Out of curiosity, did you consider moving the screens closer so that the gap is not visible?
Thanks mate. Appreciated. Due to the physical frame size and proximity from glareshield to rear TV you cannot move closer on my setup. The side TVs are about 30mm from the outside edge of the frame so pretty close. Have a build series where I show the Fusion360 model which may be of value to you....thanks for watching..
I absolutely love your cockpit. This is very close to what I am planning to build. Any plans to do a video on the entire setup?
Thanks for the feedback. I have done some historical walk thrus, but certainly due for an update. Will look to post something soon....
My apologies people. The stream dropped out with a PC software crash........Part 2 (about 18 mins) in a separate stream..........
Haha good stuff! Great demonstration that airspeed is what matters, groundspeed is irrelevant to flight!
thanks mate. Although targeted as a "Silly" video, you are correct in that points out what airspeed does with respects to generating lift....thanks for tuning in.
@@CessSim Silly, perhaps, though many seem oblivious to such concepts which we understand as basic physics. Similarly to those "supersonic" Atlantic crossings by 777/A350 etc passenger jets fortunate enough to encounter decent jetstreams! I've seen little Cessnas with 65-70 knot IAS readings showing 5-10 knot groundspeeds in the opposite direction, but never a vertical takeoff or landing. I assume that although these would be perfectly feasible, you'd be hard pressed to find either a responsible pilot willing to take off or land in winds anywhere close to V2/climb out or landing speeds, or such winds stable enough or aligned well enough to not have at least some gusting or crosswind component sufficient to deem an attempted takeoff or landing a bit too risky for any pilot wishing to remain alive let alone certified! Though what a sight to behold that would be! Thanks for the vid.. I'm wondering if any other sim external views would be available to show this with decent enough perspective to see it in action in a way a layman might be able to wrap their head around what is actually happening!
Because the wind was coming towards you at 50 that was generating a lot of lift. You don't need a lot of ground speed if the wind coming at you. It would have been a different story if you had a tailwind
@@flightsimdeskuk Thanks and yeh I get that. Point was to put a C172 in a 50knot head wind which you wouldn't do....hence Silly !!
@@CessSim Yeah, I saw the point. Maybe I read it wrong, but you seemed surprised it took off so quickly. Lol. Would be interesting to compare with x-plane 12 doing the same thing. I believe they have been working on the model for interacting with water recently.
How have you created this video, no VR headset i can see but VR panoramic views? Do these pedals work with Quest3 VR
I have 3 cameras working in parallel (Logitech C920). I use Streamlabs OBS for recording and streaming. Dont use VR although I have heard is pretty good.
Great video. Do you have the plans / measurements on how to build available?
HI and thanks for tuning in. I have a few plans of general layout dimensions etc but not full detailed engineering drawings. This will take some time as modelled in Fusion360. Will look to develop this over time. If you want to reach out via my about section (contact email) I can perhaps help with some general layout drawings but will be brief.
There is no denying....msfs has nailed the graphics. 2024 will be very interesting
Yep. Definitely..
Well, colour me impressed. 😂

Cheers Peter. I am so rusty.....!!

now that is Silly !! Like your thinking though and will add it to the list...........
A issue. You failed to do a celebratory loop de loop.
trust me this series is going to get a lot sillier.........
loving the series my friend!!! you should try landing there the opposite direction...now that would be a funny challenge!!
Good idea, but considering you thought of it first, I challenge you to do it !! I will be waiting.......
@@CessSim you got me…challenge coming up..
Your cockpit is best of the best for me. Looks cozy and I would love to fly inside it :)
thanks for the feedback. Yes is quite snug and that is on purpose to replicate the "feel" of being inside a C172. Is a great hobby and many many many hours have been put into it (and still do !!).. Thanks for watching.......
Hahahaha abandon ship! Should try a VR water take off.. it ain’t pretty 😂
Looking forward to doing some flight simming one day in VR. I hear ya !!

Sounds good mate. Keep me posted...........
Looks awesome. What operator station are you using?
Apologies for the late reply. Running off the same PC as the sim, with separate monitor, desk and keyboard.
@@CessSim All good and thanx for responding. What I should of asked is are you using something like FS Flight Control?
@@user-lt7lt1qu4h no. Its just a dedicated monitor and keyboard so I can set up the sim and then get in and start the aircraft cold and dark without a keyboard and mouse in the cockpit.
I did this with my Longitude cockpit last year, and unfortunately losing the pop out instruments was the killer with it. Dedicated avionics units like yours are the best answer to that issue, but one thing I did to get around that (though not wildly efficient or practical at all🤣) was I used two PCs, each running their own license of MSFS. Then, when I'd start a flight, I networked them together using YourControls. On the PC that fed my G5000/GTC pop out screens, I just left the model config files alone which allowed the pop-outs to show. Then, the second PC which was used to give me my 3 exterior views (left, front, and right) on my monitors, I disabled the interior model. It worked great, but was definitely a hassle for sure. Plus, not to mention the biggest issue with ALL these options, the loss of windshield effects (icing, rain)....that one really sucks. Great video, sim is looking great!
Cheers mate and yes is a bloody shame this doesnt work for everyone. I have had to turn off icing effects in FS2020 so the option is no longer. Also I interpret rain through the sound as you correctly state the windscreen effect is gone. With that in mind though, a much better experience with the virtual shell now gone. Thanks for tuning in.
lol. Ha ha ha ha. Ok, im going to get the motion set up and try this. Also, you should be in Neighbours.
cheers mate. Have a few of these "Silly" videos coming out to hopefully add a little humour to the community. My wife doesnt completely agree though !!
And here I am thinking I was the ONLY comedian...
you aint seen nothing yet mate.........stay tuned
damn - what a shame the windows are part of the interior model !!! For me I think I'd rather have the lack of rain effect but the better all round vision with just rain sound
I agree. Rain doesnt really bother me but icing does..just need to watch that temperature !!
brilliant - i need to try floats - looks like it could be fun
I've only ever nearly thrown up twice in a aircraft. Once was in mountain wave in the training area, positive/negative/positive/negative G's second was when my examiner on my instrument flight test was doing upset recovery testing, and he had the plane going every that way and that, positive/negative Gs
that wouldnt have been a good experience !!
Seems to be not a issue for every aircraft..I fly the Cows DA42 and the cockpit disappears, but the glass top hatch stays in place and works in the rain like it should.
Thanks for the feedback. I only fly C172 so can only talk to that aircraft. Looks like models are built up slightly differently. Shame not the same approach for the C172 as used for the DA42.
@@CessSim I'm currently sitting in the MSFS C172 with a windscreen, but no inside shell (modified the Model build files)...I'll keep in touch with how far I can go with this :-).
@@seattime4075 Cool. Keep me posted. Love to hear.
😂😂😂….
glad you liked it buddy...!
On the last FS2020 developer live stream they mentioned that allowing individual zoom in each render window is on the backlog for 2024. Maybe if we are lucky they will fix the home cockpit mode as well.
Fingers crossed although I dont have high hopes personally.
I guess you could make your own custom models with just the glass or something.
yeh bit of a pain in the proverbial, but I can live with it if flying with FS2020. Not an issue in XPlane........
@@CessSim I was just about to ask if you had ditched Xplane... :)
@@ScottDube1 No still fly both but if I am to be honest I do feel much better about FS2020 now with this mod. Certainly brings it out more.
Great video. Love what you've managed to do here. Look so much better.
cheers buddy. Yep one of my pain issues with FS2020 that whilst not perfect, is much better now..........
That looks absolute killer mate. well done xD
cheers buddy. Appreciate the feedback.
Thanks for the shout out Jason - Really pleased this tweak worked for your set up (so good to see one of the best sim builds now able to fly properly in MSFS 2020) - and it hopefully will work for others - maybe MSFS 2024 addresses the issue??? ps You forgot to mention you have your Whiskey comass back !! Remember you can make very minor adjustments to the view by editing the "eyepoint" manually rather than the large movements which the arrow keys give - even the zoom can be minutely adjusted
cheers buddy. Great tips and thanks very much. You are a legend mate !!
Wow, that’s amazing! Thanks very much to your good self and Tim! I have a couple of screens of gauges through Air Manager so I’m really hoping this will work, but sounds doubtful maybe. Thanks for sharing!!
Hi c310sim6 - I am Tim - I use AirManager - this tweak works fine as AirManager gauages are rendered outside of MSFS so not effected by the interior model being removed
Excellent!! That’s great news, I’ll give it a go when time permits. Thanks for that, and thanks again for sharing this tweak. I currently move my viewpoint in my 310 to the centre and poke my head up through the roof to have a view of left and right wings (no good for a high wing of course) but this makes the view a bit weird and unrealistic. Thanks again.
Depending on your set-up you could also try removing the exterior (the line above interior) - these together will remove the entire plane. (Obviously tweaks at your own risk)
I wish I wasn’t using a pop out for my GNS530…nicely done
Hi Shaderrehomesim - I am Tim - my thoughts are that this only stops the default interior being rendered, so if you have an "external" GNS530 (ie an add on) then it may well be fine as the variables for those displays are still all calculated - this should only remove the default interior model - may be worth looking to see if there is a freeware "bolt on" GNS530 and maybe trying it
You should be able to use arrow buttons to adjust your up, down, left and right location, maybe?
Thanks for that. Have used these to setup current view. I reckon have it as close as I can get it to look fairly good.
wow....looks amazing..
cheers mate thanks for the feedback.
Do you still have the windshield? Rain/Ice effects still work?
I did test rain and from memory was ok, but you have raised my attention on this again. Will test that again today.
Hi mate. Tested and you are quite correct in that rain/icing will NOT work with this mod. I will post another short video to advise people. Fortunately for me I rarely fly in rain conditions so I am fine with it.......thanks for pointing this out.
Wouldn't it be nice if the "home cockpit option" did this and auto popped out the available panels when you load in with that on? Then we just need the ability to translate the additional render windows instead of just pan/tilt/rotate we have now.
Yep. I think this proves to us cockpit builders that FS2020 isnt really geared or setup for us. I dont think it ever will be to be honest.
what?!!! it's just simple as that? we're waiting for this since the very first start of msfs!! why Asobo guys didnt't tell us? we asked thousand times on the forums, on youtube, on the socials media...got to share it to my cockpit builders bros ! big big thanks to you and to Tim !! awesome tip ! just wondering if it works on every airplane...
Thanks mate. I know strange right?
Hi WillsWings (I am Tim) - Yes this should work on any aircraft that has the models.cfg - generally fsx legacy aircraft (some payware may not work as they compile the models differently to stop mods/tweaks)
Asobo only care about Xbox $$$ and taking commissions from selling dodgy products on the marketplace.
you beat me to it. i just did this myself. just havent made a video yet. lol
I'm curious if your GTN750 will work with this enabled. Hopefully it can be opened from the top menu with the cockpit disabled?
Sorry mate. I reckon you should still make the video though as you have a different aircraft.........
