I have enjoyed flight simulation for many many years, and whilst I am not a qualified pilot (at least not yet), I was inspired to build my own creation and learn from all those talented people in the TH-cam community.
Flight simulation is such a great hobby, and I hope I can give back into this community by sharing stories of my journey (and my mistakes !), learning how to fly the glass cockpit C172, but most importantly..............having fun !
See you in the sky !

With fs2020 and 2024 you can’t polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter 😂 I just can’t believe I fell for their lies again.
A half shell? I’m shocked (and as always a wee bit impressed). Nicely done! When I started thinking about flying other planes I just started building another cockpit…I guess that’s a perk of divorce 😂…nobody to stop me
Comedy gold 😅 and I've added this to my list of re-watches
@Sheza58 thanks. Glad you liked it...!
Honestly, I am shocked that you did this. I thought the immersion of having the full physical cockpit was what you wanted. But I fully understand how the practicalities of that can be an issue. Anyway, I hope you are happy once you start using it. Another advantage of this setup is you could now, if you wanted, switch to other GA aircraft, and the virtual cockpit around you will change with it.
thanks mate. Time for a change and I am very happy with the result. Lost some of the immersion, but traded that off with better viewing, lighting, and head room to protect the noggin. Still feels relatively enclosed. Yes I can (and am) flying alternate aircraft now and the increased viewing across my screens greatly helps with my streaming activity. Beauty of the change is that it was relatively easy with only a couple of the rear verticals to cut down which can be easily replaced should I decide to go back at a point in the future. Appreciate you tuning in.
@CessSim I enjoy trying different aircraft, so I have similar to your new layout. Though in my case I have the view in the pilot position rather than centred on the aircraft. So the prop isn't in the middle for me. I don't have a nice setup with all same screens like you though. I have a 43" TV on my left, three 27" screens in front and a 32" Screen on my right. Haha.
nice. big difference. I like what you did there.
cheers buddy. Whilst I have lost some of that "restricted" feeling typical of a C172, it still feels good and now for my purposes a lot more functional. Will keep it like this now for a while in this never ending sim hobby. !
@ it’s never a dull moment in our world.
If you’d like to have even more immersion, you could sell these monitores and buy a vr headset.
thanks and will be contemplating VR once mixed reality development gets better as I want to maintain the tactile feel of a real panel. I do enjoy VR as my driving sim has it (which is parked next to this rig...). Thanks for tuning in.
Looks like an office cubicle simulator
thanks. Glad you like it. Appreciate you tuning in.
If you weren't worried about cameras do you feel like the full enclosure gives you more realism? I'm thinking about an enclosure build and I have been following your progress for a while. I was thinking about trying to knock off your design but now you're throwing me a curve ball :)!
@Scottforyoutube I wouldn't discourage it mate as I had great fun with the full enclosure. You certainly lose some of the feeling of being confined once roof is gone. If you follow a similar design to mine then you can easily modify. I can always put the roof back if I choose to. Go for it !!
Amazing job! Is the panel to actual scale/size for C172? Im currently building a PA28 series. Also how'd you undock those views is it zoomed in? I cant get rid of the virtual cockpit
thanks mate. Appreciate the feedback. Yes it is scaled 1:1 to C172 although slightly wider (about 100mm) on internal width which was more for comfort than anything. With respects to the removing of the virtual cockpit, I have another video on that with the link here....th-cam.com/video/LcFE4aSSlug/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1NGb85g0-kvxEJNR
@CessSim awesome many thanks
@@flightpathproductions5579 welcome.....
Excellent video as always Cess. Nice and clear to me and I'm sure everyone else😂😉 It looks great! 👍👍Have a Happy New Year buddy. 🥳🎉
@@GManfly69 cheers mate. All the best.
I have it a like even though I have no clue what the heck the darn thing is or how good it looks compared to what it’s supposed to be replicating or copying.
I have not seen it before. You don’t know what I think and shouldn’t assume. An “I think you’ll think” sentence is too presumptuous. I’m the first to comment and it’s still unknown what that thing is. Please treat every video as if you’re talking to someone new. That’s the best decision. Unless I think you’ll think it’s a bad idea. See what I did there?
@bornsvg thanks for tuning in. Feel free to check out other videos on my channel which talk to this sim build in various aspects. Have a nice day....
@@bornsvg thanks for the feedback. Have a nice e day.
i have a actual 1966 172 fusalge, and i had 3 monitors in there and I finnally just cut the whole roof and pillars off and did what you did about a year ago. I kept whacking my head on the roof in VR and to hard crawling in and out of the cockpit and like you I could not see my screens for apps and buttons.. Now i have full view of the screens , way better!
Thanks buddy. Wow what a project you have ! Love to see some pics or posts of your setup if you have them. Thanks for tuning in.
@@CessSim I like the Simionic Glass cockpit. I think I might do that upgrade, 1 reason is my second PC ran the gauges from Desktop pilot and also 6DOF with Simtools but the new Version 3 does not work for 2 PCs so i had to run it on the flight pc, and if i went with Simionics glass cockpit i could get rid of the extra PC !
@@iamcanadian2121 Thanks. One of the main reasons I went with Simionic was due to there being no additional load on your PC. Runs independent. Just make sure you have a decent solid wifi signal that doesnt suffer from dropouts, else you lose connection.
Nice and it opens up possibly flying other aircraft. Have a similar setup and can recommend the COWS DA42. Flys great and the wrap around glass cockpit looks brilliant.
cheers mate and will definately be looking into this now I have more flexibility..........
What about a lightweight sim roof which would fold or side away?
Could do that but I now prefer an open roof (gets quite warm inside), plus I now have a key light off to one side behind right screen for lighting which is much better....
Love the new half shell upgrade mate! Good work
@kingsimaviation cheers mate. Certainly has a cleaner look now and somewhat more functional for me at this stage now with more streams on the way. Thanks for tuning in....
Hi Cess. Nicely explained and makes total sense for comfort and usability. The 172 is a small space and having a 1 to 1 enclosure is certainly not conducive to running a live stream. So the compromise makes perfect sense. I do wonder if you will miss the 'feeling' of enclosure/immersion in the future. I guess you only know when you are back flying😉 It has made me pause with my build. I wonder if doing a full enclosure will be right for me. Food for thought indeed. Like you say there are plenty of other Cessna aircraft to play with! 😊Good luck for the channel in 2025 and hope to see you flying soon. Cheers!
cheers buddy. After 3 years in a full shell and with overall evolution, time for a change (my zany streams will take on a whole new level now!). I am very pleased with the new look and feel. Chat soon.
Interesting take mate. Most simmers, when they build a shell, they want it as accurate as possible to the real thing. I liked the way you did yours with the 3D printed windows bezels and all, but I know it can hinder finding your icons and stuff. I suffered through the same when I set up my 60" displays for my Lear45 build. The Lear has a bigger windscreen so it's not as bad as a 172, but I understand the limitations. I honestly really liked how realistic your sim looked in your past videos. So looking forward to see how it looks in your future vids. Cheers!
cheers mate and appreciate you tuning in and feedback. The sim was great when flying solo as certainly raised the immersion and feeling of being tightly enclosed (as would be the case for the C172), however as mentioned I intend to do more live streaming in the future which will be more for entertaining than anything (plenty of serious pilots already on YT), and as such I need to be able to interact more. It certainly feels better for me now, however I would not discourage anyone from building a full shell. Really depends on what you want to get out of it. Finally, the channel is called "CessSim" so in reality I should be flying other Cessna's........watch this space.
Very nice
cheers mate.
Fantastic work!! I mean it when I say your sim pit is an inspiration.
Cheers mate, great to hear it. I get heaps of inspiration from other simmers as well.
Keep up the great work mate!
cheers buddy. Love what you are doing with Shirley ! Great stuff.
You mentioned half shell. Will that make you a hero in a half shell?
Only if I can be Donatello !
@@CessSim., your channel. Be whomever you want to be.
@@Howie55Aus then Donatello it is !! Now to find the mask.....
Thank you so much for posting this video. This was such a useful tip that actually made my trim responsive for my Honeycomb Bravo. I found the actual sweet spot to be at 8. 10 is still a tad slow. Again, I appreciate this video. Cheers to you and have a Happy New Year.
cheers and glad that it helped you out. Appreciate you tuning in. All the best.
Very cool.... I wonder if there is a way to simple add a camera view to create this effect. That would allow those like myself who need to pop out the screens first for the G1000s to then change camera views similar to how P3D worked. Defiantly gives us something to work with since MS has never done anything with the HomeCockpit view option in the menus.
cheers and thanks for watching. Completely agree on the lack of functionality and support with home cockpit view in FS2020. No where near as flexible as planemaker in XPlane.
Merry Christmas MATE!!!!
Merry Christmas Cess! See you in the New Year!

@djhotdogherb thanks buddy ! The route66 song was ai generated so not an original.
How come when I say thank you the female Controller says your welcome, have a nice flight. But when I ask if she wants to go out for coffee sometime, she ignores me ?
Funny that, same happens to me !
Well I would like to thank you for allowing me to be apart of such an iconic event in the sim community. And although I didn’t get to fly it all the way through, it has put a stamp in my heart. I really enjoyed the journey with you and all the other simmers. I know next year will be greater. PS….the singing at the end was Fantastic 😂😂😂
cheers mate, and thanks for being an absoloute legend !! Looking forward to 2025 !
