Do not take General Airframe and Powerplant in the same day *Nervous laughter* that's literally what our school did, you do you practical test right after too
Thanks for posting these tips, I'm about to graduate college with my Associates in Aviation Maintenance and I'm looking to take my tests pretty soon. Super nervous though!
I took all my written tests and O and P start to finish in 10 days. I just studied 14 hours a day. I didn't miss one question on my oral. Never heard of PTS
If your taking a class you should take notes, highlight the book, and try to understand the topic. The Jeppesen books do well and you can even sum them up by chapter there's multiple of the same type of question in the books, same with prepware. I took notes on those 2 things. so if your in general study general, ask the questions in class about that section and understand it. Since the schooling is so long and your there all day, you should be able to read the textbook ch - do the Jeppesen guide (not ASA) - then do the ch in prepware - then if you don't understand ask the teacher ( that's why you paid them), if your teacher isn't great TH-cam is a great place. The O&Ps project have plenty of time and everything on it you need a reference. So you will have a step by step guide to everything, as long as you know the tools, and how to read you got it.
Thank you for this! It was very helpful, I didn't even know about the PTS pdfs; I'm glad I watched this, I would've been so unprepared now that I'm looking at what they actually will be testing on.
It is so much easier now with the internet. I got my certifications back in 1974. We did have some help with books but no google. It still takes work and dedication but there are more tools at your disposal
I have the General written on Monday, and plan on getting the next two done the same week or at least one other. I'm doing a prep course right now and though they said to do something specific (which I did) in studying to pass the written, I've also gone through a lot of the stuff I didn't know or have never done--refreshing my math skills, working on calculating W&B and CG and moment, calculating mean brake pressure, etc. I don't know if those are on the O&P but I'd like to understand them better since so many questions on the written tests involve answers which are numbers and hard to memorize and match to a particular question. How do you feel about hands-on prep for the O&P? That's what I'll be doing later on and I am going to trust the process, the instructor has different stations with different things he knows I'll be asked to do on the practical and you just do those things over and over. Do you think that is sufficient or would I still need to supplement with some study guides and books?
Has anyone gone to DME who actually gave you the questions he would be asking? Or the projects they would want you to do? It’s a little expensive but it’s worth it, rather then getting random questions.
I don't think that's an option, I'm reading the PTS's right now and here's a excerpt from it "An applicant is not permitted to know before testing begins which selections in each subject area are to be included in his/her test. Therefore, an applicant should be well prepared in all oral and skill areas included in the practical test standard." I believe its randomly generated questions regardless of which DME you use.
Yes, very helpful. Thank you! But hearing that there’s only a few questions from the Jeppeson books is so disheartening because I’ve been studying them like crazy. Ugh.
Use the Jeppesen books for your O&Ps. Use Prepware for the written tests. But no matter where do you get the info. to prepare, understand the concepts, and explain them in your own words.
I am like you and in a Part 147 school. Unfortunately the way our school is set up you pretty much have to go for both at the same time. But I have my general and my powerplant writtens complete. Per some FAR I can take my O+P early for my airframe since I am in my last semester and need it in order to graduate (even though I'm not eligible for the written yet). I'm super nervous. I have just under a month to get it done for both ratings. Busy busy busy.
so i almost there with the test but i don't know where to study for the Oral and pratices . As you said : just read the PTS and study throughout the book . I've been studying on Jepsen Oral guide for a month and i feel like i'm not gonna pass the test. please help !
Son Le Im using quizlet , (this person has them all “KyndraNoel” ) And my brother told me to also read the AMT: O&P exam guide(2nd edition) by Dale Crane . He took his O&P last year around May(2018) and said most of the questions he got where there on the book . I hope this helps ! BEST OF LUCK!!! You got this!! (I honestly feel in the same boat as you. Maybe try to work out before hitting the books? That’s what I started doing )
@@findingpebble8615 thank you so much. i'm studying right now but so much thing to cover and life just got in my way. can't concentrate. Did you passed your test ?
Son Le I feel you!!! No I had some personal issues come up(life) that I had to deal with and I was ALSO finding it REALLY REALLY hard to concentrate and my bad back doesn’t help because I get tired of sitting down fast . I have a friend who is in the same place as us. Seems like a lot of people are finding it hard to concentrate BUT DONT GIVE UP!!! WE COULD DO IT, Just keep studying one more question you’re familiar with is ONE MORE QUESTION! Keep that in mind . What are you focusing on right now? I’m starting with Airframe subjects and I’ll make my way from there. Remember that on your written exams there are codes of questions you missed , DO STUDY THOSE BECAUSE MOST LIKELY THEY WILL COME UP (I’m also currently studying lol)
Son Le everywhere I’ve looked There are different I formation about how to study . Honestly you just have to do what helps you the most try different study methods out. I have also turned to these videos of @ladywrenchhand she has the questions (oral) and you get to answer them before she gives you the answer just a way for you to study. She also has a blog with some helpful information, you should check her out
@@findingpebble8615 yeah i was so concentrated at some point feel like i'm taking this whole thing down quick then things just happen and i lost track.
did they change the rule back to being able to retake only the parts you failed? i know people who have taken it recently and did not have to retake the whole thing
I just passed all my written ones and im studying for my O&P . this is probably the most stressed out I have ever been. I guess I was looking to know how y'all are studying for it.
Moses Talamante It depends on the school tbh. My school was easy, a few hiccups here and there but you’ll be fine as long as you do your part as a student. The hardest part for me was electricity, idk why but I’m just stupid when it comes to electricity related subjects. My advice for you if you ever enroll at a 147 school is to always ask questions when you’re having a hard time and just push through. Most of the students in my school fail because they just give up and don’t care.
@@christopherperez7731 Going for my powerplant right now, but for my airframe oral I used the powerpoint lessons my teacher had shared, the jeppsen flashcards that are on quizlet, the airframe oral pdf thats online and my notes. For the practical I made sure my safety wire is up to par, riveting was acceptable and multimeter skills were good. Other than that I just studied writeups and got familiar with the jobs that my classmates were getting like aileron balancing, 100 hour inspection & rigid line fabrication. If you work slow enough to double check your work as your doing it, i find it helps. If you want any help just message me.
