Hi alex. I am a filipino immigrant here in the US, we moved here few months ago. I am also an A&P aircraft mechanic in the philippines in a large MRO company doing heavy maintenance on a commercial jet airliner ( boeing,airbus&embraer), worked there for 2 years with a local license and months of appreniticeships and technical trainings. Also finished my bachelors college degree in aircraft maintenance...
Sad to say, left my dream job to be with my family in the US permanently. I would like to ask you if I could apply a job as an aircraft mechanic or will I land a job as an Aircraft mechanic without any FAA license considering my experience, credentials and educational background?

I understand :/ you are in the land of opportunities make the best out of it. Yes you can apply and get a job without an A&P in general aviation but not sure in bigger companies. The pay will be a lot less unfortunately, but hey you never know

Thanks for the video! I have one more semester left of school, I'm eligible to take my airframe oral and practical along with the generals and im so nervous on taking the test. Haven't been studying as much as I would like because I'm more focus on powerplant at the moment. I cant wait till I become certified
Make sure you study! It’s a lot
FOCUS on general and airframe first. Take your time. Go at your own pace. Study to UNDERSTAND the concepts and not memorize questions. Enjoy your time studying as well as your O & Ps exams.

great video my friend. no bs just good advice. im looking at moving out of Los Angeles with the idea of lower rent and finding an AMT school somewhere but im not sure where to land. Colorado (with a $12 minimum wage and great overall health) seems like the best bet, it has spartan college and a couple others im considering. What do you think the best place for attending A&P school is right now & how do you feel about the big name schools versus finding another alternative? its a weird time and i dont have a job right now so im pretty much free to move anywhere i want. all i need are job opportunities and decent minimum wage regulations if things stay the way they are. top priorities are school availability, rent, and minimum wage per state. its a tough call
Thanks for reaching out. To be honest I will try an alternative that is not a big name school usually they are way more expensive I paid about 13k vs + 20k in big schools. There’s a great A&P school in South Florida but it is pricey!
Hey man, I am a junior(11th grade) in high school I live in California I am looking forward to become an aircraft technician what do you think is the first thing I should look into coming out of high school?
I recommend you start looking for a Part 147 AMT school in your area and apply for as many scholarships as possible usually they won’t cover tools so if you have a job start saving money to buy good quality tools like Mac Marco or Snap on, I try to save 3K +

Also you can find a place in General Aviation where they have the program where you can get the license thru OJT (on the job training) and they will show you how to apply for the A&P license by experience. You still have to study and work hard but at least you will make money while you are learning and get your license instead of paying 50K+ to an AMT school, is up to you. I liked the experience of going thru school but nowadays a lot of this institutes are outdated and give you classes that you will never need. You have to do your research and try different ways. Hey Rayan, that’s great! Yes I totally understand it is a lot to study. If I was you I would put 1-2 hours a day to study and reinforce what you learn in the classroom and make it your new routine. Trust me it will make a huge difference

Make sure the curriculum in your school is approved by the FAA in the USA if you are considering working in the USA. Also, most companies in the USA require proof of US citizenship in order to be considered for employment. I hope this helps.
Hello 😁Alex, From my research, I can see that the Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) is a certification, not a degree. If I would like to study the whole degree, for example, to learn how to program a computer, I would go on the field of Computer science, there I could get my Bachelor of science, Master and even a PHD. If I would like to follow the same concept but for being a the same career as you, in what field or program would I apply for?

You'll need to go to an actual college. Most community colleges in America have an A&P program where you can get just the certificate but you can also get an Associate's degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology. Now as for the bachelor's route, sometimes a college has a whole Bachelor's in AMT but that depends on the college. You cam transfer to a 4 yr uni after you get a 2 year associate's.
Now this route isn't really something people take until later on into their career bc quite frankly you dont need a degree of any sort to work as an A&P, just need the certifications. The only reason to get one is if your looking to get into management and that's when employers would like to see some sort of higher education. Hope that helps you.
Also just to further clarify getting an associate's or even a bachelor's does not give you a more in-depth understanding of the subject. Its not like, to use your example, computer science where the higher you go the more deeper you go into the subject. An associates in AMT just fluffs it up the degree with gen ed credits and and bachelor's further fluffs it up with management and business classes. Anything you need to know to get the job done and be the best mechanic possible is contained within the core A&P classes in the certification.
@@kibibisiri7782 Im looking to join for a community collage but i didn’t understand the concept like will i get the A&P certificate after completing the collage for 2 years or i have to give o&p's exam first then the FAA will give me the certificate..! Im olso new in usa as a immigrant i can read & write properly but not fluent in speaking... And after completing the 2 year collage how long it will take to get the actual job?
@@safwanchowdhury2792 you have to take the o&ps and a multiple choice test called the written for the FAA A&P certification. You can complete an associate's degree in aviation maintenance but if you never take those FAA exams after it'll just be a piece of paper. The degree is what qualifies you to take the exams. And don't be worried about finding a job I can say with full truth, they are out there and they are hiring. You'll even be able to probably get a job while in school at a little hanger somewhere to gain experience, thats what most people do. Or even get a mechanic job and leverage a pay raise as you earn your airframe and powerplant certs. This is a thriving career field as long as your able bodied and willing to work hard.
Hello.. l have a question . I graduated school. Now I have the opportunity to get Avionic certified it's a 6 months program or AOS associate of occupational science, this is 4 months program... which one do you think I should do?
Hey Chelette! I would go with the avionics training it is SUPER valuable on the marketplace! But before you take either path make sure you ask yourself “is the path I'm taking going to help me get closer to my end goal?”
I think I'm soon gonna ba lisenced AMT but my lisence will come from the Philippines, I'm in California right now, do you think my lisence will be considered when I start to look for a job here?

do the logged hours ever expire? I want to get on the job training for an A&P but my current job has me out of town from may-october so id only be getting training for 7 months out of the year. also you may have said this in the video but what if i average 60hrs a week could I accumulate my time faster or would the extra hours be disregarded?
Im from out of the United States and want to get FAA licence and soon ill become immigrant, so do i start from scratch? I dont have any licence but I have working experience on 737ng, 777, 787, 320ceo& neo both, 330, 350 and very little experience of 747 in line maintenance around 9yrs of total experience. And what r the advantages i can get on the basis of my experience???
Thanks for the video. I'm looking into a school offering a 14 month course that's gives certification upon completion to go test. Does 14 Months sound right because every I hear from and what I read is saying typically 18-24 months for the course. The school is faa accredited just wanted to ask your thoughts on the course only being 14 months

What do you think about National aviation academy V Aviation institute of Maintenance?
Definitely not the cheapest option but they have a great program plus you can test for your O&P’s as you go IF have high scores and show up every lesson etc. Also look for scholarships I got my course paid for I only had to pay for tools and books.
The FAA keeps track of Part 147 schools in the US and Canada. They publish quarterly statistics on test scores per school and their standings in a national average.

Curious, what health conditions, if any, would prevent one from being hired as an Aircraft Mechanic (A&P Mechanic)?
Unlike pilots, mechanics don't have to take a medical examination to qualify. But I'm pretty sure an employer won't hire you if a condition will prevent you from accomplishing your job or being away for extended periods for treatment.

Yes absolutely but it will be to the employers discretion.

It’s harder but not impossible!
It is harder but they are still hiring. Some companies are taking advantage of the pandemic to significantly lower the pay but it will increase as things get back to normal.

@@user-nd7gz4mz8t It may depend on the area/country you are living in. I live in Los Angeles. LAX is getting back to normal fast. LAX is the 3rd busiest airport in the world, that's why it may seem more noticeable than other airports. I'm starting to receive calls from employers looking for A & P mechanics. I believe that in four more months (August maybe) most airports will be operating "normally" here in the U.S (IF people follow the CDC guidelines and there are no COVID cases surge.) 감사합니다

The FAA is trying to increase the number of women in aviation. Women performing aircraft maintenance in the US are scarce, especially for airlines. Mayor US airlines are trying to increase the number of women in the aircraft industry. I fully recommend training to get your A & P license.

Most schools offer Associates Degree for A&P I know of one college in SoCal that has a bachelor's option so if you want a degree instead of the certification form schools do offer it.

He puts it in the link n those are the schools that are FAA certified. If that's the only one in Los Angeles thats the best one to go to really.
The waitlist @WestLA is about 1 year to a half to get in. Possibly more cause of covid and the campus going virtual 3 days and 2 days on site. If you reside in LA WestLA or Spartan are the closes, if ur in the surrounding regions of LA county or dont mind driving or living in other regions of SoCal check out Orange county CC, Antelope Valley C, San Diego CC but keep in mind theres a waitlist at WestLA so you might wanna find out at those other schools how soon you can be admited.
