- 1 Bans (ban what is strong, target ban, then ban counters)

Hi, ranged assassin player for Big Ding Energy, the team who ran Juice Pirates in the HeroesHearth CCL Grand Finals.
In response to the Juice Pirates part, we definitely DID choose the Rehgar offlane to hide Juice Pirates, but it's also just good in the comp in the first place. Bloodlust is good on core DPS, and Cleanse guarantees Sanctification's cast. I'm planning on doing a short video talking about it soon and going into more depth :)
The "favourite" strategy in draft for me to watch is when our captain bans everything one of our teammembers shows in an attempt to force him to pick something good and play good. Pure genius.
well when someone has a 35% win rate with lets say a genji, yeah im banning the fuck out of that because that's whats known as a handicap

I ban my teammates' low-winrate Genjis then say "oops sorry I didn't see you hover it" all the time LMAO

Goood stuff man, really need more videos like these out in the community. I think a huge frustration of storm league is the fact that people play what ever they want to play and give no thought to draft. I think draft is way more game deciding in HoTS than something like league

it would be interesting to make 30 to 40 videos for drafting part. I think it would give a lot of knowledge not just pick/ban but how one should play according to the our team and opposite team to the role they are in and also according to the map. It could give general idea of how to play the game as a whole for winning better. Thanks for the video. It would be more interesting if you can do in-depth video on this. This could be an interesting research area.

I feel like you're missing some things that may be necessary or at least desirable on some maps
* Kill security - burst damage doesn't necessarily cover this. It'd be weird to say Kharazim brings burst damage, but he does have kill security
* Peel - self explanatory
* Global mobility - never actually necessary to draft a global/pseudo-global, but very desirable on some maps
* Burst protection vs sustained healing - it's not always necessary to have both, but you do leave yourself open to counters
On that last note, I don't think it's strictly necessary to have both burst and sustained damage. It's not a bad idea to do it by default, but some of the most lopsided drafts are to min/max on a type of damage that the enemy can't handle. Such as Guldan and Thornwood Vine Lunara vs an Uther.
I would say it's simply important to think about burst vs sustain on both the damage and healing side, but that neither is strictly mandatory.
By meaning "Kharazin has secure kill" you mean he can dash to the target that's low and kill him, + dash back to an ally? Or his 7-sothing-kick ultimate?
@@iLovG mostly the first part, mobility combined with good damage makes him a good finisher for his role. SSS can help too of course
You don’t need to draft “peel”. That’s baked into whichever tank you’re picking.
Tank: Someone who can peel for their team and take a hit themselves, because peeling enemies away from your team usually leaves you open to their retaliation.
Anyway, that's peel covered.
Global mobility: Is a counter-specific and/or map-specific thing. For a winning team comp, you're good enough if you have someone who can doublesoak. It's not forbidden to draft globals earlier, but the point is that you'll still want to cover that laundry list with the first three drafted heroes. If they have global mobility on top of that, that's nice.
Kill security: is not really a thing in itself. How easy it is to secure kills depends on your engage and your follow-up combined with the burst. Kharazim fills/supplements the role of a dive assassin with those moves, which makes him a good pick alongside another melee assassin or aggressive bruiser. If only Kharazim dashes after the target, the enemy team should be able to throw enough cc and damage your way to make that move risky enough that it's not worth building your team comp around it. Again, it's a neat little extra, but you shouldn't pick Kharazim for chasing kills. He mainly fills the healer role and is pretty good anti-burst. (Bronze Ally, Divine Palm) Especially with Seven-Sided Strike, he can act as a second burst damage dealer.
Burst protection vs sustained healing: Those are considerations for healer pick. If you build a burst comp, you'll want a healer with some burst protection either through armor/protection or high heals. A healer specialized in sustained healing isn't going to do you any good if the teamfights are always decided within the first five seconds.
Conversely, if you build a sustain comp, a burst healer will run out of steam too quickly and your team won't be able to press their advantage in longer fights.
Medivh can be picked to counter a burst comp. He works both for sustain comps and burst comps, but especially with burst comps, you'll need to make sure that the rest of the team has the rest of the list covered. If you need waveclear, campclear, burst damage, healer, tank or follow-up, pick a hero to cover those first. Medivh can add good sustained damage and great engages between portals and Leyline Seal. Don't use Leyline Seal as follow-up, because your team will hate you. Fully substituting him for a healer is a bad call, because it forces your team into picking heroes with good self-sustain, which significantly limits their options. That's something you can do with a competitive team where you can practice this off-meta comp with the same teammates over and over.

What about Burst heals and Sustained heals - what you would pick would be map specific OR maybe comp specific/Counter healing
18:36 for me, nova we can flip on level 16 to mage with this explosive. If you are missing wave clear, level 10 + 20 take precision strike and use on lane. Try it, it's working.
It's kinda wasted tho imo. Maining Nova and for my experience, it's a better Idea to ask your team to come up for your lane shortcoming and then run tripple tap. Yes, you will have no wave clear ever, but it's similar to League of Legends jungling. You will rotate through all lanes and make sure your enemy can never relax and if possible gets killed. If you can pull it off well, they will have more severe laning problems than you do. In most cases, AA-shell build is optimal for that, meaning you go extended pinning shot, extended decoy, AA shells, TT, pinning shot second charge, lethal decoy and lastly TT upgrade.

First, I disagree on the fact that you keep 2 last picks for map obj.
You're not going to first pick Tassadar in BoE, you're going to first pick Valla or Raynor.
Overall these not are far from being the best heroes of the game but on this map they bring way too much to be picked in 4th or 5th position.
Greymane is extremelly valuable too
I understand your point but i think Paradox was refering more to the solo laners on the last pick, and used dragon shire as a example.
If you pick you solo lane first is because he's broken anyway, which he suggests for first pick. But if its a counterable pick, it's better to pick it as late as possible so you dont get a miserable match

I have a question. I main Orphea but she has such a low ban rate. Why is that? I think she has two very good ults that can change a team fight. Is it because she is relatively easy to counter because how heavily channel reliant she is?

Actually, I think it is because there are more preferable ban targets, like Kael or Li-Ming in lower leagues, Rehgar/Etc/Greymane/Hanzo in higher leagues. Also, there are not many Orphea players, because you need invest quite a bit of time to become good at her. Orphea becomes a ban target when you recognise an enemy player as an Orphea main, because she is quite impactful when played properly.

Btw, you can ask the same question on HOTS forums or Reddit and receive a couple of essays describing all the up- and downsides of Orphea in ranked, qm and brawl. TH-cam is not the best place for these questions.
Personally, I think she is very strong and has insane sustain(Nexus Heroes that keep getting buffs...yey) but her abilities are short range and telegraphed and it does require some time investment to play her well.
Is there actually a grandmaster nova player? Maining her and I always wondered, since nova i.g. is so frowned upon, as soon as you softpick her

It's definitely hitting some of the intended audience. I never learned how to draft, always seemed scary to jump in to a SL game and screw up the draft, basically losing before we started.

Abathur's pretty good in high MMR, for what it's worth. He's very often a first ban in Grandmaster. He just has a really high skill floor.

In Americas server we dont have unranked draft because people only play quick match most of the time, followed by brawl and then ranked. Feelsbad
@@mvrsts I've never played Unranked. I don't see why I would. If I want to get into drafting, I'll play Ranked. The ranking is gonna sort out who I'm playing with and against.
