Is it better to sweeten our sweets with Dates?
That depends on how much of the sweet you intend to eat. Dates also contribute to the total calories, albeit a little less than jaggery/sugar. But think, would a puranpoli sweetened with dates be a puranpoli at all?

Ans dya mam,
साखरे मध्ये fakt sucrose असते. पण गुळामध्ये आणि मधा मध्ये काही प्रमाणात fructose, इतर minerals like iron असतात. त्यामुळे साखर खाल्ल्याने रक्तातील glucose लगेच वाढू शकते. पण fructose che रूपांतर glucose मधे होण्यास वेळ लागतो त्यामुळे blood sugar लगेच वाढत नाही. परंतु साखर, गूळ किंवा मध सगळ्याच्या कॅलरीज साधारण सारख्याच असतात.

Even if there is no difference between Glycemic index of white sugar and jaggery, still the the process followed in manufacturing sugar and jaggery is totally different. Preparation of sugar crystals from sugarcane , sulfuric acids and dangerous chemicals are used for whitening sugar. While
Preparing jaggery doesnot undergo so much of chemical process. So from the view of calorie content sugar and jaggery can be same, but other wise do have jaggery as better option than sugar.
