The NEW Game-Changing Hybrid IndyCar Engine! | Romain Grosjean

  • Hey guys, I am back with another video detailing the new game-changing hybrid engine coming to IndyCar. Covid delayed the implementation of the new hybrid engine until 2024. This delay gives us time to analyze the differences and create new strategies for the season in 2 years. One main takeaway that we get right now is that the new engine guarantees more power, which means more traction and more torque out of the corners. I am super excited to see how this new engine shapes the future of IndyCar.

      @@rodbrown8306 Everyone I have heard is saying the higher number over 900hp and who knows how much more power Honda or Chevy will get out of it when they develop it.

      The power of the 2.4 engine will be 800 hp, 50 hp will be provided by the p2p and 50 hp by the ERS, totaling 900 hp in its first stage. Then they will have to increase the power because the cars are very heavy and need more than 1000 hp to go well on road circuits. They will have to improve the brakes, improve grip a lot and add more downforce.

    Romain, long time F1 fan here. Saw you at Long Beach (amazing race) and decided to do a few laps myself in iRacing. Gotta say, I am liking these IndyCars. Way simpler but also less bs. and I totally agree with you, coming out of the pits and being able to constantly push without MGU and tire management is much better racing. It's like the old F1 days. Definitely will follow along IndyCar some more but I still don't like the ovals.

    • @aperson5062
      @aperson5062 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Longtime fan of both. Definitely prefer the road courses and street courses. But check out the short ovals where they run road course wings instead of the speedway wings, Iowa and World Wide Technology raceway. They have more tight racing than the bigger ovals, Texas and even Indy. If it was up to me, Indy would be the biggest and fastest and at least it is low banked and they would drop Texas.

    I really like your videos. We watch both Indycar and F1 and will follow you wherever you race. I like Indycar more because it very seldomly has one team winning almost every race, every season.....year after year....you know where I'm going with that. Although we're enjoying seeing that team struggle this year. 😉
    On a personal note, I hope you and your family get to see each other a lot while you race here in America and the distance doesn't pose a huge problem. I'm actually quite excited about the hybrid power unit in Indy. If they use it as basically a rechargeable push-to-pass, it should retain the purity of the racing while opening up more overtaking options late in races. I legitimately think Romain could have won at Long Beach with just a few more seconds of P2P, but in the current system, when it's gone, it's just gone. This new system has the potential to create an environment where intelligent use of braking and throttle control can produce a late-race advantage that simply does not exist with the current engine.

    Apart from the driving and competitive aspect, what is it about IndyCar that has enabled you to adapt and to be quick so soon? You truly look like you’re having the time of your life whenever we get to see you during a weekend, but what is it that has made you feel so comfortable and “at home?”

      @brogansmith1342 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously I can't just speak for him, but I have an educated guess: F1 cars are *so* advanced these days that they basically demand a very specific driving style, and tyre degradation is much more of a factor. Grosjean's best moments in F1 came when he could push hard and make brave overtaking moves. Indycar is a setting that rewards that kind of driving much more consistently than F1.

      The H has become such a money drain, even F1 is getting rid of it in 26. The MGU-K is similar to a normal hybrid system as it harvests energy from the brakes. If finances were not an option, I could see an H system on the ovals as there is minimal braking, but for as few ovals as they're running right now, that would be just a waste of time and money
