I live in Canada, we have moose to spare.
I mean I watch my fair share of nature shows, that has to be the most tolerant rattlesnake I've ever seen
they are kept really cold so they don't move during the service. if you watch the video again you can see him kinda start to get warm a bit- that is when the guy got bit. shouldn't have had the church so warm-lol

If they are fed and know you aren't going to hurt them, they won't bite you. I used to have 9 sidewinders and a Mojave green when I lived in California in the 70's... Would go out at night and pick them up off the dirt roads. I used to pull the sidewinders out of the cage set them on top and pet them. His problem was he wasn't watching what the snake was doing... When they coil back like that it means they are getting pissed and getting ready to strike. If they stay extended that means they don't feel like they are in danger.

The danger in Australia is very exaggerated. Most people rarely see snakes let alone be bitten, although it does happen. Our crocodile management is also second to none, with only one or two people a year being attacked. Compare this to Africa and Asia where many hundreds are bitten and killed every year.
@S i lived an hour north of Townsville in Ingham for a year in high school and had 3 snake encounters......2 being dangerous. An Eastern Brown wrapped itself around our toilet and also a Taipan swam in front of me in a creek during our senior retreat. I never had any spider encounters though........luckily. Oddly enough, the thing I got warned about the most, were goannas and blue box jelly fish at the beach in the summer.

I once went to a church in Amsterdam where you can watch a man play with his trouser snake.
Come to think about it, that might not have been an actual church.
Haven't been to church in a long time, but I'm pretty sure there's a verse or something like "Thou shalt not tempt the lord thy god"

There are also some old testament lessons where those who go with full faith are protected, but those who doubt and test/check (e.g. Lot's wife) get an undesirable outcome.
There's a difference between testing to gain knowledge and understanding, vs testing to see if, say, God's reliability ranks with Toyota and Honda among midsize cars in accident protection.
(A pet peeve of mine is fundamentalists who don't discern well - by definition, fundamentalism is adherence to black vs white, with little inclination for gray-shading - anyway, these people who happily use all kinds of technology, but then get tripped up in the nuances of scientific complexity. Example: a vaccine with a 99% effectiveness rate and a 0.001% side effect rate is better than a disease with a 10% mortality rate. One in 10 of these pinheads would die to avoid the 0.001% (1:100,000) side effect.

As a Christian I feel like I gotta say, these people are nuts. I believe in God, but medicine and science, and not messing with poisonous animals is good thinking. The bible doesn't say be an idiot and mosh around with snake necklaces, it does say "as a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his foolishness" though.

From the point of view of a teacher in rural US, the absolute instant little Jeremy said he wanted to be a preacher or go to divinity school or whatever the career talk was over. Kid could be the next Einstein and that counselor would be done. There may be a separation of church and state in theory in public schools in the US, but in practice in the rural US, Christianity influences things dramatically. It's rare that it gets to open advocacy by school officials, but individual teachers do it without any repercussions and telling Jeremy that being a Nobel physicist instead of a batshit preacher is liable to get you fired.

Also, I am from southern Appalachia and these churches are quite rare nowadays. I also studied religion in graduate school and the funny thing is that the part talking about handling snakes in Mark was added much later than when the first manuscripts of Mark were written.

Interesting fact: snake venom contains an anti coagulant. In simple terms, blood wont clot, so you bleed a lot more from a small injury.

He did go to the hospital I've seen this one before his friends did not take him home like he wanted they were actually smart guys and saved his life by getting him to the hospital disturbing fact his father was a snake preacher and died of a snake bite that's when his son took over the Dr's also said if he gets another bite he probably won't survive
