- Is the Sawstop table saw worth $1400 dollars? I'm reviewing and testing my Job Site Pro table saw as well as capturing the brake activation in slow motion. This is the best portable table saw you can get in my opinion. Not only does it have the saw stop feature but the other features like the fence and cart are great. If you're working in a small shop or garage this saw is perfect because it's so portable. It's easy to load in the bed of a truck to take it somewhere too. Good review thanks for doing it. I’ve had the same saw for over a year now and have cut everything, cross and rip, up to three-quarter inch ply, hardwood and softwood, and MDF with no issues whatsoever. So only thing I would disagree with is the comments about the blade that comes with the saw. I haven’t switched it out and all my cuts have been fine with it. Is the saw worth $1400? I think the answer lies more in what anything comparable will cost and what your fingers are worth. I’m glad I bought the one I did.

2 weeks ago I cut off a 1/4" of my middle finger, broke the bone on my ring finger, have 6 stitches in pointer/ring finger and took a chunk out of my pinky. I WISH I had had a SawStop! ER visit, two visits to the hand surgeon cost me a LOT more than $1400. I will be buying one!

I've had mine for 14 years and love everything about it. The contractor saw was not available at the time so I have the Industrial Cabinet Saw. Even without the safety feature, it's an amazing table saw.

I like that safety feature. 1400 seems reasonable considering the quality of the fence , cart and safety. Considering it costs 79+ bucks to reset the brake you have to be very careful with what you cut so as to not to trigger the safety device. I wish there was a saw for careless people like me which does not kick back lumber that gets pinched in against the fence.

I would love to see a video testing how wet the wood has to be go actually trip the brake. I’ve been told pressure treated wood isn’t actually wet enough to set it off. “Most of the time, if at all”
A friend of mine set his off when a drop of sweat fell and hit the the blade. So it would be interesting to see with treated lumber.

I need a table saw so bad but it is not in the cards. I suffered from a job site injury back in 2013. I have not been able to go back to work due to the injury and the medications I am on. Also I suffer from depression because of this whole mess. I am trying to get some tools so I can get into wood working so I can get out of the depression state.
Bosch Reaxx saw also has a mechanism to get the blade out of the way. It is a two use replaceable cartridge for getting the blade out of the way. It doesnt damage your saw blade at all. But it is not a low tolerance cabinet saw. It is a Jobsite saw, you loose out on the quality of the build.
May I recommend to you a "Bug-A-Salt". It's a fly killing machine!

If you ever decide to do this again you should wing the hotdog through faster to see if you can get at least a gash.

Thanks! They say you can sometimes save the blade but I wouldn’t trust it even if I could separate it. I would worry about the welds breaking on the teeth and flying in my face.
Much cheaper than a trip to the emergency room. My grandfather cut off multiple fingers so this hits close to home. Good product.
Everyone always tests the saw stop with the "finger" moving laterally and resting on the table. I would love to see what would happen if someone fell on a fully raised blade from above. Although that is likely not as common as the classic test it would cause the most damage.

HAXMAN thank you for the review and video. Quick question. Would you use the Jobsite pro to build kitchen cabinets?… I sold my 3HP cabinet saw because it was basically a catch all and I needed the room…. Ive had a Bosch 4100 for years and went back to it because my shop is out of a single car garage. I find it pretty accurate but I think the motor on it is getting tired..
Absolutely! Of course the main problem is going to be maneuvering a sheet of plywood on the tablesaw. If you have an outfeed table and a helper you're good to go.
Seems like a great saw. I've never used a saw though. Any suggestions for something simple but useful to build that would break it in?
Start off with some small plywood projects. You can get half sheets at the lumber store to make them easier to handle.

Okay so, Like if you only touched the wood and pushed the hotdog into it without actually touching the hotdog would it set it off? Basically asking if it's your own bodies electrical signal transferring through the hotdog or metal or wet wood that shuts it down? 🤔 like what would happen if you tossed the hot dog at the blade without physically being in contact with it or if you were wearing rubber gloves or something? Hope someone can answer lol 😆 debating with my husband on the matter and my stance is that it wouldn't shut off it you weren't touching it or transferring your bodies electrical current and his stance is the hotdog and metal and water are conductive and that's what shuts it down. I argued that electrical currents can still travel though wood. Just has higher resistance than say water, so if the machine touched anything conductive why wouldn't it shut off. Anyways looking forward to the answer lol 😆
It would go off if you threw the hotdog. Moisture content plays a role in conductivity. That's why wet wood will set it off. It's not the wood, it's the moisture setting it off. Since I made this video I've set it off a couple times when the blade hit an unseen nail as well.
Quality piece of gear it seems. Brake cartridges are highway robbery though haha.
Only $79 for a replacement and a saved finger. Maybe take a second look at that complaint.
High impact plastic housing, electronic trigger of explosive actuator, aluminum brake pad (machined or cast).
On the medical side, $79 vs $1000s for doc to sew it back on (if they can) plus lost time recovery.
I really dont think if you actually triggered this thing with your real finger that your going to complain about $79.
@@millenialfalcon8243 Personally, I hate seeing the waste. You should be able to send it back to the manufacturer and have the charge and crumple zone replaced. All of those electronics being thrown out for one use is crazy. Especially if it can be triggered by wet wood or an accidental piece of metal.
Why did you not have an "A-salt gun" on standby to deal with the flies. If you are not aware, look them up. I think they are right up your alley.

The original Saw Top owners were patent lawyers, who tried to get other manufactures to license their system. Being rejected, they lobbied the federal government to require that their system be used on all table saws. Failed. They then developed their own saws. They stopped Bosch from selling a similar (due to broad original patent) system that didn't destroy the blade. They are now made by the company that sells Fein
If I bought a saw that expensive I'd be scared to touch the blade too lol, freakin thing self destructs.
00:54 actually Bosch has a saw that does( it works in a different way though) but Sawstop filed suit so Bosch had to stop selling them in the US. It's called the Bosch Reaxx.

Festool does count though. Different price-range, but it looks like they licensed this technology from Sawstop and use it in their TKS 80 table saw.

We have actually built a grey (gray?) water system that catches the water from our washing machine. It stores it in a basin and we built a water wheel to turn the water so it keeps it from getting stagnant

I like to work with gloves, leather and cloth gloves. How would the saw act if it hit my finger with a glove on 😳
It would snatch your glove and pull you into the saw but it would still cut off after contacting your skin.

Kick back is the #1 cause of injury with table saws. Sawstop leaves that out of the marketing of course. They did everything they could to stop Bosch from selling their superior system that doesn't require a cartridge change and doesnt ruin the blade when deployed. Just sayin!

Yes. The saw is worth thousands more. Just ask someone who cut off a finger or two. Your ripping blade IS NOT a recommended blade. The anti kick back feature slows down the reaction of the blade stopping. Even if only by a tooth or two. Get the right blade. Your fingers with thank you.

Sawstop is a false sense of security. People still get nasty injuries using these saws. That tilt mechanism is also terrible if you want any kind of accuracy.
As I say every time I see one of these videos, I want to see a piece of meat thrown at the blade at high velocity.
There are videos where people slide a hot dog as fast as they can into the blade and it barely scratches it. You can’t outrun the trip sensor.
How about you put your actual finger stop using hot dogs

I get the sentiment but there are quite a lot of saw injuries. Imagine if all saws had something like this... Well it just so happens that they don't because SawStop threatens litigation (Bosch) to stay competitive instead of investing in innovation. I'm not sure they really "care" about safety if the only way to have such safety is to buy their saw - or the licensed Festool TKS 80 monstrosity. Now, if I had room for a contractor or cabinet saw I may consider a SawStop but at $1,400 + for the job site pro - it just isn't a good enough saw to justify the price.
I am just a hobbyist so I am going to hold off a few more years for patents to expire and then grab a saw from one of the bigger tool companies with a similar safety feature (and that doesn't destroy your blade).
Here's a fun thought experiment - if the SawStop Jobsite Pro cost $15,000 would it be worth the price? How much would be too much?
