  • Before tiling a floor it is often necessary to strengthen the floor using a sheet material such as WBP plywood or tile backer board. This video demonstrates how to fix WBP plywood to a tongue and groove wooden floor. More info an tiling floors can be found here- www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/til...

Thanks . I have 18 mm WBP ply I was going to use. I won't be tiling the floor, it will probably be laminate . The ply was to provide a study base for the stone shower tray. I will add noggins as you advise though, at least under the tray area. Thanks again.

Great video! I've seen so many professional tilers only put 6mm ply down and they wonder why the grout cracks 🙈

Hi, we are shortly having Novilon Novawood vinyl from a roll (not tiles) laid in our bathroom. The current flooring is Amtico tiles, presumably stuck onto plywood. After we have removed the Amtico tiles, what thickness and type of plywood should we use over the floorboards?
    Thanks!

That ply looks pretty thick when you get to the door won't it leave a step ?? And affect door closing?

Love your videos, I'm plying a en suite floor over moisture proof chipboard I'm using 9mm ply and screwed every 100mm to secure it ready for tiling is this a suitable thickness for ply to lay down? If I lay ply any thicker there will be too much of a raised edge to the laminate into the bedroom.

I'll be totally renovating my bathroom, starting end of January, one question- what do you do if the floor level in bathroom is raised above the floor outside door? Cheers and all the best for New Year

Cheers for the link on your other video. Quick question on this one. I'm gonna be covering my bedroom floor with 4mm plywood on top of the existing chipboard... Do I need to leave a small gap all the way around the room near the skirting board or flush up to them?

What would you recommend for levelling out a floor that has some (possibly) asbestos tiles, some missing, lots of adhesive. Was gonna lay a latex screed over or else plywood like a video above then tile over with modern vinyl tiles.

what I do is use 13mm plywood and draw lines on the board every 150mm so you put the screws exactly at 150 doesnt really matter but thats what i do, the board you used it way to thick in my opinion 13mm for any floor is suitable and then use 25mm screws, but make sure all floor boards are secure put a couple screws in where needed!, hope this helps in the future if your doing any more tiling because it seems you just gave yourself a headache! good video nevertheless :)

If you wanted to keep the height of the floor down so you don't need a ramp. Could you not remove the floorboards, then lay ply directly to the joists? about to tile my bathroom floor in the coming weeks so would be good to know.

I'm doing our small (7' x 8') upstairs bath and cannot remove the existing subfloor because the walls literally sit on it...so I'm forced to lay 18mm (3/4") ply over the rough subfloor. I don't want squeaks and the 100-year-old subfloor is pretty uneven, so I'm nervous about simply plying over the top. I've thought of using a moisture barrier or caulk to add some padding and take up some of the unevenness. What do you recommend? BTW, I'll be using lifeproof's laminate flooring (floating floor).

Handyman please advise. I have removed three layers of vinyl in order to fit new vinyl. The previous plywood subfloir is in a poor state removing the vinyl has pulled many layers of the wood off. Is it safe to put on a thin sheet of plywood on top and then install new vinyl.
