    I've been trying this style the past few months - minimal editing, ugly thumbnails, and being just plain real. I'm calling it "Journal Series" and I'm loving it so far, although the views fluctuate quite a bit, but I'm okay with getting a lot less views knowing that the connection with the people watching these are way more stronger than when I was making prank videos. I also try to make the thumbnails bland because I don't want to have to out-scream the videos around me, I don't want to distract someone from scrolling. I'd rather attract people who actively type my name into the search bar.
    Also, I love the story telling aspect of TH-cam thats trending a bit right now, but I do think that people stretch a bit too far to make an intense story out of the most mundane. And this is because they're posting weekly obviously, it's hard to find a worthy story 52 times a year - so I think people should allow for there to be nothing in store sometimes.

      crazy to see you here, I love the realness, back in the day it used to be impressive if you could edit at a high quality but now everything is so over edited that, realness gets more appreciated, MrBeast noticed that too and is slowly but surely slowing his pace down and showing more personality in his videos

    I've not been enjoying watching TH-cam and it's all through the recommended that makes me want to continue if i open TH-cam on my smartphone but otherwise, I'm not at all hooked anymore but instead of watching I upload maybe thats why and its something that all TH-camrs experience. Does that make any sense or am I going insane?

  • @AmiYamato

    When you're watching TH-cam to relax, slick edits can be tiring on the eyes (and brain). Also I think everyone is now doing the same kind of fancy editing and nothing stands out anymore.
    Simplicity is most welcome.

    Completely agree, Jay. I think authenticity is essential now more than ever. TH-cam is oversaturated with Mr. Beast-like creators, and to me, the ones that stand out are the ones carving their own path. I will say I think I am seeing this more from a thumbnail and title point the most.

    I've noticed the same thing. I think TikTok has created such a fast paced, optimised experience that to actually feel something real and connect with someone has become rare. That's why i'm taking the same approach with my channel. when i go to record a video my main focus is how can i be as honest as possible. Might not grow as fast as if i took a different approach. but it feels more real and meaningful. And i think in the long term, It will be the reason why i see success. Great Video!

    Totally agree! I think the last little while, TH-cam has felt "too polished" and almost unapproachable in some videos and it's too emotionally taxing to watch that. I've found myself drawn to smaller, more casual creators & video styles too - glad more people are feeling the same way.
    I think even MrBeast in his interview with Colin & Samir mentioned creating more space for emotional beats because that seems to be what's resonating lately, so will be interesting to see how everything shifts!

    Being real and being yourself on this huge platform has become highly underrated. Many creators today, especially smaller channels feel like they have to be over the top with their content, otherwise they won't gain views. Now, while that may get quick views by being "over the top", what they may not get is a true audience. An audience that watches their content for the person, rather than for the flashing lights and loud noises. Being authentic and real comes through and I think people miss that. People are craving authenticity.
    Great video, dude!

    Honestly I’m SUPER excited about this and almost feel relieved in a way. I’ve wanted to get into YT for YEARS in the gaming niche, but I felt like I HAD to do some sort of crazy challenge or become an expert in one game to provide all the secrets ever about it, and have crazy ass editing on top of it. I’ve never been interested in creating any of that and I don’t even like watching that myself.
    I’m hoping this means a shift back to simple gaming videos with authentic reactions and reviews more often. The “golden age” of YT gaming videos IMO. I’m excited to see what happens 😊

    Excellent. For years I've been chasing the right process or formula, to the point where I just stalled out on youtube recently. I am in a space that is highly copied and frankly I'm sick of it. For the past few weeks I've been considering what I can do to be different than the others, and maintain my excitement. Authenticity is the word that's been rattling around in my head for a while. I'm going to take your video as a sign that maybe I'm on the right track. What the hell, what can it hurt? Thanks for the effort you put into these videos and, oh yea, the thumbnail thing too. hehe.

    I wanted to do this style for a long time, its so connective and feels like freedom but the problem is that I do gaming videos, I really enjoy them a lot and don't want to give it up. Since the target audience are kids, most gaming videos have fast paced editing for it to perform well and it sucks. I would just say f**k it and do it anyway but i'm afraid that I won't go nowhere in this type of niche.

  • @therealsey
    @therealsey ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes! Been thinking about where I'd like to take my channel. My number one thought was precisely what you do here. Just talk to the audience unfiltered, no crazy edits, just pure thoughts that might help someone going through the same things that I'm going through.
    The best part about it is, I've always viewed TH-cam as a distraction. Rather than promoting others to remain distracted, I think I want to gear my content towards people actually clicking away and getting off the platform, rather than binging, as "counter productive" as that might seem.

  • @BoxingNow
    @BoxingNow ปีที่แล้ว

    I 100% agree. A couple of months ago my channel was demonetized due to "reused content". As a result of being demonetized, it opened my eyes to how this platform is failing on several fronts. Here is one good example... TH-cam requires you to have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch time hours to get monetized. I have over 400,000 subscribers and less than 2% of those people actually watch my new videos. My content is not pushed to my subscribers they never see my new videos. Same can be said for me, Im subbed to certain channels and I havent seen videos from them in years. They are still making new content it just never gets to me. There is no incentive to subscribing to someone's channel. So why make it a requirement to get monetized. The entire "subscribe" model is severally flawed. I dont subscribe to channels because the stuff I watch is someone shown in my recommendation feed. More so than ever, the recommendation feed is filled with crap.

    This is true Jay, and I definetly feel the downsides of Mr beautification of youtube. However, this "new" era of youtube is the old youtube, where you have to rely heavily on your own personality. Not everyone can be huge, anomalies, and it's hard for a normal person to differentiate themselves on a social media platform when the selling point is personality.

    I feel like trends come in large waves and then the water pulls back out for a reverse and then we notice trends swinging in the opposite direction. I hope the authentic trend will last some time, and hopefully when things inevitably swing back the other way it can be more refined and more balanced than the super flashy perfect editing styles we’ve been used to of late. People need to connect and i think a whole lot of us are tired of the noice and we know that it is no longer worth our attention.

    I am currently trying to make simple gaming videos, Minecraft builds, and that kind of stuff. In the beginning, I was trying to put a lot into it, making a really good edited fancy vid, it was an exhaustingly long process for me, and I was getting very little traction outside of my bulb.
    Last month I started doing simpler, but longer, commentary videos with me just casually explaining what I was doing here, and surprisingly views got way bigger, I see that youtube started recommending such videos to a wider audience the next day after publishing. Interesting things are happening.

    The algorithm is so huge now that everyone's experience on TH-cam is now a very different thing. My experience has been that I get a lot more recommendations that I want with that "real" feel you've been talking about. The algorithm is shaping to people's tastes as they grow. I'd say one of the things that you're experiencing and Mr Beast is experiencing, is just growing up and being interested in more mature things, and then the vocal YT audience might also going through the same thing.
    And this was the right bet from you! Congrats! I'm seeing how it's already paying off with 12k in 1 day, making this video the 2nd best video on your channel already!

    I've been telling people about this very thing for months now! Because so many creators I watch, I really just enjoy listening to them. I don't even pay attention to their edits. I just enjoy hearing their thoughts...honestly the edits can be distracting. I read sooooo many comments about how people want more authenticity, and for you to trust that you have your audience's attention, without being over the top.

    i make lets play videos i dont mr beastify my videos i try to keep them real and down to earth only shouting at myself for being a moron, but i think ill keep myself the way i am, im tired of being shouted at by creators, tired of OTT video. im too old for the shouting stuff.... So for me on my channel i use my cam in my videos to connect to people and just chill. i stopped bothering with tags. i stopped doing a lot of the background work.
    i still try with my thumbnails and titles but the content is jump cutty and chill

    I just had someone give me advice to follow more of the "how to go viral on TH-cam" advice but I too have been feeling as though authenticity is what I need to be led by. My growth has been steady but has taken time. I have never had what I would call a viral video. My videos sometimes only get a few hundred views but sometimes it is those very videos that touch someone in a profound way because I often hear from that one person that it helped. So this video gives me more confirmation that maybe I should just keep doing what I have always been doing.

    Agreed ! I am just starting out my TH-cam journey and I have noticed that the content I enjoy creating the most are the more realistic and relatable workout videos and day vlogs. No fancy editing or cameras just sharing my hobbies and passion. I also enjoy watching these style videos more and more now. I found my self getting bored in the other style of videos with higher production because there is a repetitiveness to them now. Anyone else agree?

    I agree with you, being yourself. No crazy editing. I have a gaming channel and All I do is cut matches for videos. Using Canva for thumbnails. I find being simple much better. It's more relatable!

    100% agreed, dude. One of my favorite channels is someone that just talks for 15-30 minutes with no edits, no cuts, in her car, in portrait mode. I think people are tired of being 'optimized for', they just want someone to show up and be real and provide value.

    I agree with this 100%. I feel that seeing these style of videos are just like you said, AUTHENTIC. I think it can help people want to create more videos as well because it takes a lot of the "overthinking" out of it. Just create and see where it goes. Appreciate the video. Subbed!

    Really a calm, breath of fresh air. I got tired of scary images, super fast-paced subtitles and a sound effect every 0.5seconds. I think it's overstimulating and makes you feel like a hamster on a wheel. I make a point with my videos being calm, not too flashy, and slow. We need to reconnect as humans. Not every piece of information needs to be delivered at 4x speed.

    AI is also going to drive this trend. As AI becomes more perfect in it's ability to create epic realism imagery easily the natural push will be for something "imperfectly real". I'm curious what something so intangible will look like.
