As a guy in the late 1970's and all through the 1980's...the low profile B. F . Goodrich and Road Hugger tires were all the rage. They did cost a lot more than regular size tires...but to be the coolest you needed low profile tires. I worked for many hours of overtime so as to be able to afford the B.F. Goodrigh low profile tires.
I rewatched an adventure in building a model car so many times by now, glad to hear you are planning on getting back to it. Also that new kit looks awesome!
I wasn't planning on getting this kit, but Damn guess I am now after watching your unboxing think I will have this one Soon thanks for your unboxing and Look at the kit enjoyed
I built the black one in middle school. Probably the first model I ever built. Getting back into building now that im 47. Thanks for all the videos, very entertaining and informative! \m/
I’m really glad they brought this kit back. I really like it when the old kits are freshened up and are re-released, because I really like it when the price gougers on eBay are kicked in the nuts. I have the black one, and have planned on building it with the tips you have given us if the Adventure’s of Building a Model Car. And, of course, I am really happy you are going to bring that series back and finish it up. I’ve been waiting on you to bring it back for quite a while. I want to buy two of the new ones. One to build and the second one for parts. Thank you for taking a look at this kit, and sharing it with us.
Super glad this was reissued. But agree they should've offered more parts from both old kits to make it a truer 2'n1...specifically intake options and wheels
Built the red one with my aunt when I was very young , One of my first glue kits. Still have some parts kicking around from it. I have already purchased two of these.
Sorry...I write as I think about what to say. I'm glad your not done with this car other car I thought I missed on it. You got some great ideas on what you're planning on doing to it....hope I get to see em. 😊
You had the black one, not the red one....I had the red and not the black and now we'll both have the white beauty! 😎 Wasn't planning on getting this kit, but....yet again, you twisted my arm all the way from Arizona! Dammit.... Keep gluing those fingers together, keep cutting that styrene.... Heeeeree's the producers!
Never owned one of the old ones I will buy one for sure. Revell are doing a fantastic job with box arts these days. Good to hear you are planning to continue the adventure in building a model car build.
Had the black version in the late 1970's. Time to get another one! Liked it better for looks than the red but bought a sealed red version about 20 years ago. Eenie meeny miney Moe..... 😎🏁
It's one of my favorite kits from when I was a kid. Very excited about getting one. Never had the red one always like the black one better. I don't care for the stripes, like the flames. When I get one I'll send you the stripes if you want them
So glad it's re-issued! your series back a few years ago gave me the jones for one but like you said, prices on eBay were out of my range. Just ordered two for the stash!
One of my favs too, metallic dark purple with blue stripes, yea lower the suspension, only on a Nova 2 or a 55, the only thing i remember is the bonnet didn't go down properly because i had too much paint around the firewall...... i was only 20 years old
I’ll bet I built that black car 6-7 times as a kid. Then twice more as an adult. Most recently just about two years ago. And that’s the first time I didn’t do it black with flames ! I had the red one once, but that one wasn’t my favorite. Incidentally, the Cragar S/S wheels from the recent reissue of the 1/24 ‘78 El Camino look great on this kit ! Thanks for another great review !
Some of the Monogram Z28 Camaro's from the same time frame as the black Malibu actually have the same slotted mags. I built the red one and used the mags from that Z28 Camaro, they slipped right into the original tires from the kit. BUT...the tires were Goodyear.
I haven't gotten the new one yet, but it looks sharp. It's cool that they put pieces of both cars in the box. And yes like everyone else it was among my first builds and I had and still do have both the black and the red one. After 30+ close to 40 years the red one held up, and am currently redoing the black one but painted a maroonish metal flake. The red one is per the instructions except I put the rims off the revel 56 Chevy on it. I didn't paint the body it's strait out of the box body color. Hell I was in my early teens when I built them.
Pretty sure the monogram/Revell 39 Chevies, the coupe and delivery, have the same two engines. One with supercharger, and one with tunnel ram. Different front covers, and headers though, other than that, they are the same.
I really enjoyed this. I am miffed about the 2 n' 1 billing. If it was a true 2 n' 1 you would be able to build either of the previous versions, Red or Black. The omission of the Supercharged Induction is particularly annoying because I just never liked the looks of a Tunnel Ram Induction. One last positive note: the new flames are a definite upgrade to the old ones. Thanks for the unboxing and look back at this Seventies Era Icon.
Another great video sir. I'm glad to see a great review of the parts trees from this kit. You've helped me make a final decision to buy this kit. Now I have to buy at least 2 of them. LOL!! Keep up the great videos. Happy modeling. Don 😎
If you were to put a stock style front suspension on this kit, what ideas do you have for a donor? If you are gonna cast stuff I have all the parts and live in the east valley! A good revisit on a cool kit!
I have so many GM chassis I coils use. But I was thinking if using the kits tubular front end. Cut the leaf springs off. And build some sore of Chevelle like fabricated front LSA suspension. Maybe from the NASCAR kits.
Im really glad that they came back with the kit, Iv had the Red version made it into a Post Apoctalyptic build, iv had a few black versions as well. Great Video as always!
Was one of my first models 20+ years ago, dad bitched and moaned about me using real glue and paint so I don't think I even finished it lol oh the good times
This is such a cool kit that I’ve built several times if you need the rims from the red one get ahold of me fred Henry or that BG guy 🤦♂️has my # I’ll be glad to give them to you
my cousin had a real 66 SS Chevelle and we wanted the model to try Different Paint Colors on it. We looked every place that sold models....could NOT find 1 so we went Every where and started asking them to Order some. After some time the black or red 1s started showing up. Anybody know when the first of these started being done??
I've never built this kit. I may have to change that soon. I do have to agree, those old Monoigram tires are not my favs. The tread area has that curve to it that doesn't sit like a real tire.
Are you ever going to go back and finish the 64 Oldsmobile ? I can only imagine every kit box in the background are just full of half way built kits. Malibu is a nice kit. Just wish you would finish.
Orange car with those red/yellow stripes would be killer. My plan is a supercharger w different wheels/tires. I still have PE SuperSport scripts from a Chevelle fret. Bead rolled interior conversion and that is the plan.
I've always avoided the kit because I found the older box art 'cheesy'. I've seen inside the black and the red versions and have been left kind of cold.... especially those awful tires. I appreciate a good 'Street Freak' though. I'll have to dig around for some better tires (Like a good G-60-15 or similar) for the rear and something better for the front. I MAY revisit the idea of building THIS one.
I know, since just recently getting back into modeling, just enough to br stupid, but I can’t find a way to email you, but I have the decal sheet for the 66 Street Rat and I’m not a decal user, unless I’m doing a NASCAR build, and if you wanna take a look at the decal sheet if it’s something you might be interested in, I’d be happy to send it to you. I’d like to email you, or we can go back and forth if we can got it to come together.
I built this so many times as a kid. Love this kit.

@@theragingdolphinsmaniac4696 I don’t deal with them; even if, I have the money, I do not pay inflated prices for anything I buy. Patience is key.
Super glad this was reissued. But agree they should've offered more parts from both old kits to make it a truer 2'n1...specifically intake options and wheels
A good opportunity for a resin caster
Great video thank you for doing a opening box review on this kit. I like this kit. Still want to get the red kit again. Have a good one 👍👍👊👊😎😎😎🤠
Nice comparo of the old & new kits. It would have been nice to get all of the parts from the red version included too. Thanks Luka.
I m sooo glad you did this video.I was gonna buy this kit yesterday but I picked up the 917k Porsche
Built the red one with my aunt when I was very young , One of my first glue kits. Still have some parts kicking around from it. I have already purchased two of these.
got back from my local hobby shop, and this was one I picked up LOL
Nice unboxing!! 🙂
Those stripes, yuck..... Those flames, oh yea!!!🔥
Those new flames are pretty cool.

Just got this one a few days ago. Haven't opened yet , so this is cool 😎. Will be doing wht/blue also. Do want the black & red one.
I've got both the black and red versions of this. Just built the black one a week or so ago.

I've got a couple of the black car and a couple of the red car that were purchased in the late 70's to very early 80's.
very enjoyable video sir … thanks for posting it
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.

Hey Luca, good review of a great kit I'll be getting two of them for my stash,, good show buddy, later, Glen
Looks like a cool kit the malibu

A classic for sure Luka.
😂 Came out in 77...aint no wonder why we felt like they brought it because we were asking everybody to order it 🎉😂😂

Would've loved to see the slotted wheels too.
I love this kit one of my all time favorites!

The only good things about this re-issue is its molded in white ( finely ) and also the decals will be good for 80s PRO street builds.

Its my way or the highway I will be getting that kit
They are SST's. There are more rivets on Centerlines

Looks like they didn't fix the valve cover. Still has the defect one the 427
They should put the old BIG BOSS tires in these kits those were my favorites back then and they were cheap! Anyone remember those!🇺🇸
I was excited to get that kit but now I don't want it because it has to much of the black kit in it
How can I get a hold of you?
.....keep your hands to yourself.......
