But you have to make sure there is no confusion or risk that you are selecting the wrong drive. In my case the ssd I was writing to was significantly smaller than any other drive in my system.

Hi, do I need to partition the SSD before flashing HiveOS onto it? I have already flash it to the SSD using Etcher but the SSD doesn't show up in the windows explorer
i have been using USB drives and they work fine but suddenly they stop working and i need to re install the programs. I have an spare SSD, is it worth it at all moving from usb to ssdd? i am getting really annoiyed doing it again and again the usb drive it seems like the program and the files always get corrupt.

AND they have a new installer...I think it writes the image for you and everything....and I say I think because the new installer doesn't show my SSD for some reason(have it plugged in usb with dongle as usual)...it sees my other external harddrives for my movies but won't see my SSD(Windows see's it..I formated it and all that)..it has a drive designation but still the installer doesn't see it. It is so new that nobody has a video on it and I can't figure out why the SSD doesn't show up.

Just wanted to add..about M2 SSD, some of the boards (AsRock for example) wheren there is more than 1gpu, it disables M2, because it shares bandwidth. Also why to use something which is more fragile, uses more energy etc.., then clasic good old USB Drive.. I tried SSD and M2 for nciehash.., worked, but ask yourself why.. Also M2 Can be used for pluging another Gcard if your board supports it.

Yes, you can. The adapter is usually easier so people dont have to dismantle their desktop to install/remove one. But if you can easily put it into the motherboard that will definately work.

@@UIMcocodog hmm 🤔. I'm not sure what you mean by installer. Are you talking about the program that flashes the OS to your HD? You should be able to flash onto your HD either way. Maybe I'm not understanding your question. But the easiest solution to the unknown problem is buy a $15 Sata to USB if you can only get it to flash VIA usb. The other thing I can think is something in your BIOS settings is wrong. Again I'm not sure I understand your problem. Sorry.

I bought a brand new external SSD, flashing HiveOS succesfully. Plug out and in. But IT DOES NOT SHOW ON WINDOWS! Cleaned, formatted, tried again but it is not visible so I cannot put my rig config file :( I am going nuts for hours to fix this... any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
You don't need the config file. Plug it into your mining rig, will boot to it. THan ask for your Rig ID and Password. You have to go into HIVEOS and create a new farm and new rig and there it shows your RIg ID and password. Log into it and your done.
Moving it to an ssd that previously had windows with an Asus board causes all sorts of issues with the UEFI, and will send you to the bios after each power on/reboot. Such a silly problem to have. I'll have to figure out how to make hiveos UEFI bootable for it to accept it and boot straight into hiveos, instead of being stuck in the asus bios. Interesting enough, if I disconnect the keyboard, 50% of the time it will just boot straight into hiveos... I will never by Asus motherboards for mining again....
@@TheHobbyistMiner yeaup, even when i disconnected the sdd and put the usb flash drive back in, boots to bios. clear the cmos and UEFI keys still boots to bios. re flashed both usb and ssd didn’t help. Turning on CSM works but it disabled features i need.

I think I understand what your doing. You have Windows on one SSD and you want to install HIVEOS on the other? So you can dual boot? You should be able to run the program I mentioned in the video and select the SSD of choice. If NOT, the program may look for HDDs that are USB. In that case I bought a cheap USB to Sata with Power Adapter to make these SSDs.
a better way to do it would be to use parted eg sudo parted -l (lists all disks, note in this example sda is what were copying to and sdb is what were copying from) sudo parted /dev/sda (this is to select the disk to be formatted) print (print will list the selected disk info, good for checking u have the right disk) rm (delete existing partition, my not be needed) 1 (number of partition to delete) mklabel gpt (only needed if not already gpt) mkpart primary ext4 0% 100% (formatting command) quit (to exit out of parted) dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sda bs=10M count=800 status=progress this way you can do it all on hive os and it will transfer the hive os a lot faster from the usb to the ssd, less than a minute for me 0xdc0e08b3ce77025b412153c65c7df60218d00620

I would move to SSD. Hiveos recommends not using USB Thumb drives long term

I believe you need a Sata to USB adapter.
what's the advantage of using A SSD, i just leave a usb pluged in with the OS on it

Your correct. Make sure 4G Decoding is on, and if your board supports Mining Mode, it is on.

Sounds simple but did you format the SSD? Before installing HIVEOS.

does one worker count as like one "rig" or like 1 gpu
One worker counts as one rig with as much GPU as u can fit into it.

I think your referring to the config file. You can add it or when it boots just put in your info and it generates it on the system automatically.
