Loved this video!! I know two people that raise goats. One is an F.F.A. member. She takes her goats to the fairs for show. She has won numerous ribbons. She had a goat named Dory. She got loose one day. They looked all over and couldn't find her. Someone saw her on top of their camper trailer!! So it was Finding Dory, that they named the goat for. The other, lives in Missouri. She has show goats as well.
To make "ice cream" from my goat milk I make chocolate pudding and then freeze it. It is delicious that way and the texture is creamier than the ice milk.
Yeah Laura, great job milking your goat for the first time. I have never milked a goat, but I have milked cows. We had a milk cow when I was 11, and my brother and I took turns milking "Betsy" every day, morning and night. It does make sense like Sam said, not to be to gentle, because it tickles them. I never thought of it that way before.🐐
Great video! You caught on fast Laura! Surprised there is no "processing" like boiling. You just need to strain it! Loved seeing the yogurts you made with the goat milk! Wonderful to see the kids getting involved.
Good job! I milk the same way Sam does! The thumb and first finger pinch off while the other 3 fingers use to squeeze the milk out. I can taste what our goats eat when it’s like 3 days old. We make ice cream, butter, and cottage cheese. We want to make more things since we will have 3 in milk here soon!
I was taught that you squeeze the teat like you would a bag of frosting when you're decorating cupcakes or writing on a cake. Hold your thumb and index finger to kind of trap the milk in the teat and then curl your other fingers in around the teat. Also, she doesn't look really thin. Dairy goats tend to be on the thinner side. If you want, you can add just a handful of black oil sunflower seeds to her feed when you milk her. Has lots of fat and protein. You can get the sunflower seeds pretty cheaply in the wild bird seed section of your local garden center. When I had a milk goat, I'd hold the bucket with one hand and milk with the other. Takes a little longer but I was able to quickly move the bucket if needed. Also, as you're milking, your arm is going to be kind of touching her leg as you reach past it. Press your arm against it a little more. That way you can feel her getting ready to move before she moves. My arm also helped to block her from kicking the bucket.
This is really helpful! I am considering goats but not sure I can handle it all on my own. Are you planning a video on their care? And you did great for first time milking!
We have added it to our list. You’ll enjoy goats! They are very hardy and don’t need a lot of pampering….provided you have good strong fencing so they try to get out!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! I totally feel your pain, but those are some lovely teats! I am trying to learn with a little Nigerian Dwarf, and I am actually selling her, lol.... she was sort of gifted, and gave us two beautiful mini Nubians though, so we are happy about that! I have two bigger dairy goats, a Nubian, and an Alpine who are about to kid real soon! Nigerian Dwarfs are cute, but for a homestead I really would go with the bigger breeds. Bigger and easier teats to milk, and 3 to 4 times as much milk for the same amount of effort. This is why we are keeping her kids though, mini Nubians are a great little breed that still gives a lot of milk!
It’s hard to learn how to milk a goat! I remember when I first started milking ours. I was shocked at what it took. We have Nigerians and they give so much less milk then that! Can’t wait until our cow is giving us more milk this June!

Good job, Laura for the first time! I am sure it won't take you long to get better at it.
Oh I'm glad you got to milk your goat, you did very good,
Thank you!

Ooooo! Do you make from scratch pudding or use pudding mix??
@@TealHouseFarm yes, but you could use a mix if you wanted to.

I’d love to learn to make cottage cheese!
Great info/video. Loved the kids being involved. Never a dull moment. 🤣 the yogurt with fruit on the bottom looks great. Thanks for sharing!
Never dull or quiet around here 😂

I love that tip! It is a lot like using a a frosting bag ❤️

I can’t imagine milking a smaller goat…it’d be hard to squeeze something smaller!
@@TealHouseFarm lol, it is! I guess for some homesteads they find it to be worth it, but I love my big girls for milking!

I’m going to have the firearms of a sailor 😂😂 💪
Thankyou!
Welcome 🥰
As my mother would say, “ Practice makes perfect.” I don’t think it will take you too long to master milking Laura.
I hope not!
They do have milking machines for goats
You’ll get better.
My son could only drink goat smoke. He had an allergy to cows milk. Used it many ways.

Well now I want a milk goat 😒
