      This idea is as old as the marketplace.
      Will we ever see it?
      No, because it might / will destroy the business model olf the ingame market place.
      Sales might drop to 30& - 20% of the current ones, I guess.

    Junk is the correct description! It’s seems they want to charge you for everything, especially for scenery that most people would assume would be included in the “Game”. They have perfected the “art of the scam”. Aircraft that are not poorly developed that really are nothing but junk. I bet every simmer has 3 or 4 aircraft that they purchased and only flown once. MS/Asobo are only interested in getting your money!

    As for a “try before you buy” system, prehaps the implementation of a timed “demo” which allows you to use the product for let’s say ummm, 2 hours before you as a user can either pay to keep and unlock it permanently or decide its not for you and then delete the add on

    How about splitting the rating into half a dozen quality categories, such as (for aircraft):
    1) Texture resolution and quality
    2) Level of moving features/animations
    3) Proportion of panel controls that operate
    4) Sound quality
    5) Faithfulness to real world equivalent aircraft
    6) Handling/flight dynamics
    These qualities could be scored by multiple choice radio buttons with guide legends (for consistent scoring).
    The overall score could be calculated by the website (not the user) using a simple rule of thumb (say, a weighted average).
    The whole thing could be handled by the initial data entry screens, and result in a simple 1 - 5 number (of stars) as at present, - but this number would be more reliable.

    Introducing a “traffic lights system” on every single product on its description page, which denotes either 🟢=low LOD/memory intensity 🟠=medium LOD/memory intensity 🔴=High LOD/memory intensity, would be an excellent and well received approach for XBox users and PC users alike!

    I totally agree with you! The fact that MS allows so much junk shows that it is about Money First, and Quality After. So, we have to get Informed First to buy the good products, as there are Excellent products. The customer, as for anything in life, has to do their homework! I CERTAINLY do mine... The fact that there is no "Try before you buy" option, shows they want to trap customers to Get Money First!

    Many good ideas for improving the marketplace. On the try before you buy front, it's not necessary to reinvent the wheel. The iOS app store and Google play store have what I think are good marketing models in that you can get apps for free albeit with ads. If you like the basic app you can buy the upscaled version. There are some apps that have several upgrade paths to purchase more features. Something similar could be done for aircraft models in the MSFS marketplace.

    "Brian" needs to look at the filter section which allows him to filter out liveries if he wants. Also, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Just because one person thinks a product is junk doesn't mean everyone does. Proof of this is that most products have both one star ratings AND five star ratings from different people. I think an awful lot of people fail to understand that not everybody flies the sim like everyone else. Someone who wants a hyper detailed study level aircraft and would rather die than start ready to go on the runway, is a different target audience from someone who just wants to jump in and get flying within moments. You won't find a single aircraft that's perfect for both camps. Furthermore, genuinely bad products will get genuinely bad ratings and so the dross will naturally sink to the bottom.

    Strongly agree with your suggestion to refine the ratings system. Also, it would be very helpful if product descriptions included some guidance on whether the product works well on 'low end' systems (e.g. Xbox S). As it stands, I have to guess, so I tend not to buy products that I think might not work well (e.g. complex airports and aircraft)

    I would love to see MSFS incorporate an in-game community center where people can upload/download liveries, airports, and other mods for free. It doesn't matter so much for PC, but this would be a nice feature for Xbox users since we're forced to use the marketplace. Bethesda (which is also owned by Microsoft) does exactly this with Skyrim and Fallout 4, so it is in the realm of possibility. However, Microsoft/Asobo probably likes the extra revenue that they get from charging people for stuff that would be otherwise free on PC

  • @tel7625
    @tel7625 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I buy stuff very rarely and only once I read that that its reviewed well and is stable with the rest of the sim. It's the performance issues some addons can bring that is the problem. It shouldn't get onto the marketplace in the first place if it causes CTDs or any other performance hits.

    I was scrolling through the MSFS 2020 Market Place and I found items that have nothing to do with flying, one example is trains and boats that are supposed to enhance scenery, which are absolutely useless! Also, many of the items in the Market Place that are marked down in price by a large percentage, have low ratings, that indicates such items are junk.

    I find the Marketplace too jumbled, you have to scroll through so much stuff to find something you might be interested in, so there needs to be a proper filter where you can narrow down what you're after.
    That said, I've only ever bought two items from the Marketplace, everything else has been through third party sites.

    One thing I note the market place frequently has products the same as the developers who produced them such as Orbx, this can lead to duplicate purchase especially where for example a scenery / mesh has previously been released by the the developer who originally released the item. How do you get your money back from the market place.

    I have been a simmer for over thirty years...and Can pick up on the good the bad and the UGLY...
    The first red flag was the "Cenutry of Flight" music...that was an OK sim but to me..MSFS 2002 ( PROFESSIONAL EDITION) was a better sim package..(I still use it...
    The second red flag was the intro if X box and the monthly fee to play...I like owning my own software and depending on a monthly (cloud ) service just doesn't appeal..
    The third was the preference of people who use hi end towers (and high priced) to get the nod on new devolved programs left a lot of laptop simmers out in the cold..so if you don't own a high powered gaming tower..or Xbox gamer console you are sol...
    They ( MSFS 2020 developers)
    need to got back to the k.i.s.s. principle or this beautiful looking sim could tourn out to be a big flop..
    There needs to be a MSFS 2020 light with the basic livery..(Trainers..Cessna.150..172..182..
    Piper 140..Warrior..Arrow..twins.Baron ..Aztec..jets Citation.Lear..military F4.T38..B52..F18..helicopters
    Hughes..robinson..may a V2..
    That it...nothing but flying aircraft...
    No boats cars ot trains...
    JUST AIRCRAFT...( Flying cars ..maybe)
    That is the way I feel about it old school simmers probably feel left out an neglected..
    I don't own MSFS 2020...
    AND I FEEL FINE..

    There's so much crap in there!!
    But it's a bit of a non issue, at least to me. I think whatever retail experience you pick involves sifting through the crap, whether its buying new shoes or choosing veg at the grocers, so I don't see how the marketplace differs. It's pretty easy to find reviews on TH-cam and Facebook groups too, same as you would with other products.
    Theres lots of high end aircraft that are conplex to learn and a number of excellent sceneries, if you are treating it as a simulator the investment in time is big, so I would wonder why you even need a big marketplace anyway - theres years of use in the Commanche or wilga for instance amd thats before you even look at the fantastic airliners available.

    The market place is a used car market. Some products are really great, a lot of it is crap. How many people have parted with money and felt victimized. More than you think. It’s buyer beware! There are no standards of quality from MSFS which is odd considering these products are representative of the core sim. It’s even more critical if you’re on Xbox because a lot of products just won’t work. And how would anyone know if a scenery is too resource intensive to work on consoles. There are a lot less reviews dedicated to consoles.

    Wish there was a difficulty category for planes in the marketplace. Personally, I don't like to spend the whole evening using Simbrief just to fly a bit. But I can't know if I can fly a 320 in the same simple way as the default planes in MSFS until I've bought it. Like for example the Fenix plane which I don't have time to learn. To me, wasted money. I like to fly but I'm not a realism fanatic to the tips of my fingers...

    • @jamisonr
      @jamisonr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm the complete opposite. I'm a beginner too, but I play with all help disabled and I go from Simbrief to flight, use the ATC panel manually and all that. So when I buy a new plane, I want the thing to work as close to real life as possible. Think I'm going to buy the $70 PMDG 737-800 because of the known quality. I guess we are two sides of the same coin.

      There are a good number of trusted devs but they can all have their occasional 'wobbles'; however the reputable guys will always issue fixes if the original releases are somehow below par.

Please Asobo/Microsoft let's have the better aircraft and stop giving us this pile of crap. I have never seen a company so intent on destroying itself as this lot are. I think your video and some of the comments you made demonstrated that one man's junk is another man's treasure - for example, you mentioned "the cream of the crop" as including the UK mesh, but to me that's a pointless thing to buy - there's a new sim coming out in just a few months, and the return on something like that is minimal. You also made a point of saying that there's nothing of much value in the "New Releases" section, but there's a great helicopter in this week's offering - but then I know you don't like helicopters, so that's probably junk as far as you're concerned.
    Nobody is forcing anybody to pay any money for any of these downloads - you either buy them, or you don't. Yes, I've been burned by some duds, but then that's life, it's not exclusive to MSFS.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You seem to be misreading my intents there Dave: I actually don't mind helicopters and in fact *do enjoy* flying them from time to time.
      Your later comment, is inconsequential to the video's subject - it's not a case of 'well don't buy if you don't want to' & more of a case of there being to much junk around in the Marketplace - two different subjects!

    • @wombleway
      @wombleway 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Huddison I'm sure there's plenty of junk on PC too, from sites that vary in their reputability. I think what I'm trying to say is that, if you look at the list in the Marketplace of "Best Sellers" there's plenty of things that you and I wouldn't buy, but others clearly have - there are people like you and me that want something that flies well and is modelled accurately, but there are others who just want to blast around in something that looks like their favourite plane and don't care what it flies like... Who are we to say that they're wrong, and that they shouldn't be able to fly what they want? I don't have to like it, but then I don't have to buy it either. I can't see the point in buying a Transit van (as per this week's releases) - it's a flight sim! But for the same reason I can't see the point in buying the Juice Goose either (which I know many members of the Discord - yourself included, I believe - have bought and enjoy). Is that wrong? I don't believe it is.
      We're all capable of making a choice as to what to buy and what to ignore, and I don't feel the need to complain to Asda (other apps are available) that there's a lot of stuff in there that's crap - and for that same reason, I just ignore the crap that's in the marketplace and leave it for someone else to buy if they want.
      Hopefully that makes it a bit clearer.

    I don’t know but when MSFS 2020 first came out on Xbox it was great! But after the third update, I think or 4th, it went down the man hole. CTD, stutters, and occasional mishaps started popping up, they did fix some of it but the ctd’s still come about. The Xbox may not be able to handle all the innovations that a PC might but it’s not a useless machine, I thank that Asobo and MSFS might want to really QC their updates, right now the updates are what I really fear. 🪖😀👍👍🇺🇸
