Looks like you got it working pretty well with the webcam.
Something I also look for with these camera solutions is how much demand they place on the CPU and GPU. As I understand it, TrackIR does most of its processing in the hardware, so it consumes very little system resources. However, most of the camera alternatives I have tried ended up taking about 5-20% of my pc's processing power.
I have also only ever tried using my android phone's camera, and always ended up with a similar outcome you experienced using your iPhone in this video.

A couple of Track IR things - You can tweak the response sensitivity in the application. I actually use the reflective sensor on a baseball cap and it's just as good as the emitter in my environment. It allows me to lean a bit more forward than your setup may be and no headphones, although I have headphones on most of the time anyway because I route coms through them. To temporarily disable the tracking for fine knobs and switches just press F9 then F12 to turn it back on. All that said, the eye tracking looks pretty interesting. XBox support would be great.

Thanks for those insights. Have used Track IR for over 10 years and really like it. Loving using Beam with nothing on my head.

I placed my phone in portrait mode instead of landscape mode and also used the rear camera instead of the selfie camera. There was a tiny bit of jittering, but I'm not sure if it wasn't due to the turbulence. I hope that the webcam will eliminate all of it. Also, there's setting 'head tracking filtering'. It adds a tiny bit of input latency but makes things smoother.

    Worth mentioning:
Beam Eye Tracker does take resources from your CPU and GPU for Tracking. Track IR has an integrated Processor in The sensor that does the tracking. Therefore, if you have a weak system for MSFS anyway, you want to consider that impact.

      Thanks. That is worth mentioning.

Thanks for the add-on here. A small correction from our side: There should be no GPU load (unless you have the Eye Tracking Overlay or Privacy Filter turned on). You can verify that inside the Windows task manager. For a close to zero load on your CPU there is the iOS extension, which allows offloading the processing to your FaceID-enabled iPhone/iPad.

    Thanks for the video.
I have one of the cheapest cameras from Logitech, the C270.
    A 43" 4K monitor is at a distance of 1 meter / 39.3".
It works perfectly, and in my opinion better and more configurable than TrackIr, mainly due to the particularity that with Beam Eye, when you lose your objective, the image remains stable, with TrackIr everything flashes and we lose immersion .
Furthermore, the option of being able to try it first to see if it is worth buying is also incredible.
I already bought it, as I need Steam for MSFS it's not a problem for me not to be separated.
    My best regards.

Opentrack has a few bundled software that already does the tracking. Works pretty well with a few of them.

I tried this with both a regular webcam and my phone, but it's all jittery. Maybe because I wear glasses (with a blue reflecting coat), or the cams just go at 30 fps, while my trackir at 120 fps. It's not precise at all, it just wouldn't stop moving.
I prefer trackir with the reflective on top of a cap than any eye tracking I have tried, by far.

I'm using Beam.Eye Tracker in conjunction with Elgato's new Facecam MK.2 - 120fps at 720p. For me it works just flawless. but I'm not wearing glasses. I think a webcam which is capable of higher FPS is crucial. All the best!

Grass Monkey is the best head tracker. And beyond cheaper than either of these two face recognition peripherals.

    • @XJoukov
      @XJoukov 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

not on all points, Grass Monkey does too take resources from your CPU for Tracking. Track IR has an integrated Processor in The sensor that does the tracking.

I own a Grass Monkey puck. It’s not cheaper than just using a web cam. I’m currently testing OpenTrack with NeuralNet vs the Grass Monkey to see which is smoother. My webcam is 1080 60fps.

#1 I have a Grass monkey Puck aswell and its just not up to it during the day ( the compromises I had to make where not reasonable ). I did like the fact that it was 'wireless'
      for the Emmiter.
#2 I also have/ HAD TrackIR and found it good but too easily damaged, for it's price it's build is a joke.
      SOOO
#3 I can't use for IL2 ( witch I find rediculous in this day in age ) IS the 'TOBII 5' that I bought in total confidence for IL2, not thinking for a second it was not supported.........
I have, DCS 'Mossey' but I find IL2 more easy to 'pick up'
I guess I'll be driving my Truck Sim's ( whoo hoo I hear you say ) and learning the 'Mosquito'...
