You can just install a washer / wavy washer on the stock bolt to remove the play. Its something like 12x14x0.6mm. If you take a skateboard wheel bearing and pry the seal off they are the perfect size
I actually went the other way from XT which I had for like 5 years to SRAM NX which I now run on 3 bikes. Had to change the clutch on the XT twice as it just fell apart. The 11 sp3ed NX when adjusted properly shifts great and really had zero issues.
Trying to work on a bike with a Shimano derailleur after using SRAM for only 1 year is a nightmare I dono if I can go back now. That lockout switch is game changing. Other than that I see little difference performance wise between them for my low level bike skills. I do like srams shifters better though.
I’ve always wondered about sram, only ever had shimano… looking at the cost of the Gx axs… I can’t justify it…. And I’ve never had a problem with slx, deore or xt. Plus plenty of pro teams still use shimano 😂
I can’t complain. I bought a top-of-the-line remedy about four years ago, which had a full X01 set up. I bent it one time, and SRAM text just happen to be at the bike fest. I was at and immediately fixed it, just by bending it back and checking it with their hanger checker. Other than that, to this day, it still shifts, extremely crisp, and extremely reliably. However, I love this little tip, because when this derailer goes, I will not be springing for a new X01.
For years I used SRAM and then I used a friend's bike, which had a shimano xt, so I decided to try the slx series on one of my budget versions of the bike and for the last seven or seven and a half years I have completely switched to shimano. It's much simpler to adjust, it's more precise, somehow it's feels softer, smoother, they change gears beter and they're cheaper. I've been using shimano xtr for the last two years, super quality, super precise, extremely resistant, I can only say good things!
i started on Shimano, but back before i started building bikes i bought one with a top-of-the-line (at that time) X0 drivetrain and found it was nowhere near as smooth or durable as my XT-equipped bikes. i like SRAM's brakes' performance better than Shimano (use Shimano, anyway) but find their drivetrains to be lacking.
I've used both SRAM and Shimano drivetrains, and honestly, I've found the differences between them to be negligible. You can't go wrong with either one.
I have an NX and GX, they both wiggle like you noted, crazy that it was deliberate by SRAM. Also it is very obvious by the way you have to disassemble that they didn't intend for you to find this out. Great video, thank you so much!
Apple lost a lawsuit because they deliberately made software updates to Iphones that would make em slower, Not saying this is the same thing, But I am saying, something... 🤔🤔
I tried a NX because it was cheap. Next day I ordered a TRP tr12 G-spec and never looked back, until I got the amex bill. Since it came from arbutus routes I told my wife it was gardening supplies. All good.
Love the video. Bought the goooooold XX1 Eagle piece and installed it on my GX mech. Super easy, looks cool but now there is horizontal play along the length of the new bolt that wasn't there before. Everything installed as in the video. I didn't reinstall the spring washer under the B bolt piece though. Think this is the issue?
I’m so happy how my Microshift Advent X performs. I paired it with XT 11-46T cassette. Not 12 speed but it’s lesser complicated. Anyway, 10 speed is all i need…
Hi - Hilarious video - I love it. I also have the SRAM GX derailleur on my bike. Do you have a website link to the exact parts I need to do this upgrade? Please and thanks!
Hey dude thanks, glad you enjoyed the video I got you: Iv'e been trying to find the part number from Sram, It could be: RD-SPP-A0 Google this: SRAM X01 Eagle B-Bolt and Limit Screw Kit Or SRAM B-Bolt/Limit Screw Kit XX1/X01 Eagle 52T depending on which site you're on. That's the one, available in black or GOOOOOLD, if you want to be that guy. I bought it here: www.theinsideline.ca/sram-b-bolt-limit-screw-kit-xx1-x01-eagle-52t.html
Thanks for the tip. I presume this doesn't apply to the GX AXS (last Gen)? I can't detect any play in mine and every review I've read or watched says the GX shifts just as well as XX1 (without the bling)
Hey I actually am not sure which mount the GX axs uses, i guess open it up and see if it has the single bolt or two piece, I have some memory of someone saying this can be done to axs too but I'm not 100%
Thank you! Great video. Clear and informative. Going to try that too. And get a replacement derailleur (frekin' frenchies, man) whatever, rear mech. or something. BTW, do you have Finnish roots? Something in your english and in your humour seems nordic to me.
Great video. Would this help with the horrible chain slap on the GX models? I “upgraded” to the GX AXS and it’s noisy from all the chain slap. My chain stays are guarded though I think the cage is just very flimsy. Would love to have your thoughts on this issue. Cheers!
Cheers! Hmn I read somewhere that it'll fit the GX AXS too but can't remember where that was so can't promise it will fit. However, if it does: I feel that it definitely reduced some chain slap, since there's less movement in general, Unfortunately it won't save the weak clutch on the Sram mech's 🤒
@@Frorideism thanks for the reply. I keep reading the clutch is garbage on the AXS. It’s not too bad when using the smaller cogs in chattery sections. I guess due to more tension on the chain and the retracted position of the mech. Thanks again. You got another sub here.
@@dennisrod5808 Oh yeah for sure I really feel they need to update that thing..! or at least have an option to increase the spring strength, It's strange because I feel the chain is most secure on like... 3rd to smallest cog. Smallest I get a lot of slap, so I actually shift up when going really fast so I won't get as much slack - Very counter intuitive haha! No worries dude, I love chatting about these things , welcome to the party my man! 🥰
I have a NX because i found it on alltricks for 40 euros last year and decided to buy it "just in case", now i've been riding it for almost 6 months and always wondered why it wobbled so much... On a 11s it skips gears too sometimes because of that. How it that kit called? I'm gonna buy that thing ASAP man
Had some succsess with NX by installing a washer inbetween the hanger and derailleur mount that eliminated rotation in b-bolt joint and made it stay fixed in one position. It mostly eliminated excessive chain slap and made shifting significantly better
Hey my dude! some other guys has been wondering the same and I THINK it'll fit, but hands down I'm not 100% sure, so up to you if you want to try it out. Iv'e been trying to find the part number from Sram, It could be: RD-SPP-A0 Google this: SRAM X01 Eagle B-Bolt and Limit Screw Kit Or SRAM B-Bolt/Limit Screw Kit XX1/X01 Eagle 52T depending on which site you're on. That's the one, available in black or GOOOOOLD, if you want to be that guy. I bought it here: www.theinsideline.ca/sram-b-bolt-limit-screw-kit-xx1-x01-eagle-52t.html
The SX has a plastic body which hinges in the middle on a steel pin, this gets a lot of play very quickly. I think the NX is alu and thats why it lasts longer. GX is like the SLX from Scamano however a little more expensive. I was hoping that the new UDH system would be used on the GX cable operated derailleurs which would help with the hanger flex that some suffer from. My group rides e-bikes so were eating drivetrains for breakfast. Mid groep models GX/SLX are the way to for your wallet, Your hack is definately noted, great content 👍👍👍
Except 12 speed Deore has its lifespan measured in minutes rather than months, good luck with shifting when all the pivot pins develop so much play that you can’t shift into half the gears on the cassette, oh yeah they’re also not serviceable or replaceable so that’s great too /sarcasm. I’ve had Shimano mechs struggle to last even half a season of reasonable riding, any never from hitting them off stuff, they just disintegrate from normal use. SRAM nx, gx and apex I’ve got on the other hand, just keep replacing chains when they’re worn and everything else just works, on a side note my sram chains even last longer than Shimano mechs do.
@@CJmtb91 lmao NX straight up sucks. My bike came with it and it rattled from day one, no amount of bodging helped it. I've changed jockey wheels for ones with bearings, i've made it stationary in b-bolt and fixed the play there, but it was still noisy, shifting bad, and even dropping chains with chainguard somehow. Binned it and replaced with Deore, all problems gone instantly. Worked with NX shifter and cassette better than Sram derailleur ever did. Completely destroyed one derailleur undershooting huge jump and exploding the wheel, went to the store next day and got a new one for 30$. Funny how you say it's "non-serviceable", when on Sram mechs you can't even adjust clutch, and half the mechs are known to come with bad clutch out of the box. Deore is literally XT but a bit heavier, while NX is like a trashed worn out GX sold new.
@@fpsgenerator Nice try but i doubt that entire paragraph ever happened. Sram and Shimano pull ratios are different enough that it doesn't work well (i've tried that same mix and match myself and it shifts like utter dogshit), using an NX shifter with a Deore mech will never work properly, sure it might be "acceptable" for some people but it's never going to shift as well as it should if it was matched properly with the correct pull ratio shifter/mech. NX i've used was the 11speed variety and worked great, Apex 11 speed also great, 12s GX Eagle also great. Shimano on the other hand, XT 10s mech died in 6 months, XT 11s speed also dead in a few months... Deore mech, I went through 2 in one season from the pins in the parallelogram developing so much play that it would skip in every gear. Granted 12s NX isn't particularly great and SX straight up sucks, but Deore is the biggest scam in the bike industry, it's nowhere close to XT. I'm not even hard on mechs, I never hit them off anything, but shimano just doesn't last if you're buying anything below SLX. Same goes for shimano brakes, everything below XTR that has servo wave sucks balls, constant wandering bite issues, brake fluid leaching through the phenolic pistons, levers are made of literal cheese and bend by just looking at them the wrong way... Tried, Deore, SLX and XT 2 and 4 piston varieties and they all had the same problems, multiple XTR I've tried on mates bikes work perfect though, and most reviewers also confirm XTR seems unaffected... so it's clearly a design problem on the lower models, again typical to shimano to design in problems that buying the top end kit solves lmao... SLX is just heavier XT, but Deore is not, whatever material they are using for the parallelogram in Deore is soft as hell and the pins wear away at the points they are pressed into. Deore 11speed was even worse. Deore isn't serviceable though, oh you can put some fresh overpriced shimano branded friction compound into your adjustable clutch... gets completely overshadowed by the shifting often being absolute trash with the clutch engaged and the fact that you need to keep buying a new mech every few months when they develop play in the pins you can't replace - which shimano know is a problem because on the higher end mechs the parallelogram is both a different design and made of a stronger material so they don't wear out in the same way, also not a problem on any Sram mech i've seen or used in the last decade. I don't care about not being able to adjust my GX mech clutch since its been fit and forget for nearly 2 years now, just replace the chain whenever its a bit worn and keep it clean, other than that haven't touched the drivetrain, far less maintenance than shimano ever was - and I used to hate sram and love shimano, but since shimano moved the production of everything below Dura-Ace/XTR out of japan and started cost cutting everywhere to undercut competitors they just aren't as good quality as they used to be. Even Microshift AdventX is better than Deore these days.
Ill be trying this on my axs gx and axs xplr derailleurs. I can feel the play in each of them while my x01 axs bike has none. Im already abusing my xplr rd by asking it to run 2x, maybe this will help with the chain drop.
Is the replacement kit original for the sram X01 DH (Hex5), because the main srew is black, or for the Sram X01 (Hex5), where i only find kits with a silver screw? Thanks for your answer
Hey the kit is original for X01 and XX1, I was also a bit confused because the colors of the o-rings are red in some kits and black in others lol. This was the one I bought: www.theinsideline.ca/sram-b-bolt-limit-screw-kit-xx1-x01-eagle-52t.html
@@Frorideism thanks a lot, i have the sram Gx and i have so much play in it, after a disassembly i find out that the coating of the main Bolt ist completely rubbed of. So the new Kit becomes the sram X01 one : )
Didn't know about it. Personally I'd run Shimano always, but didn't want to change my hub so I replaced my drive train a bit ago with GX. I can say it shifted just as shitty as always straight out of the box. A ton of fucking with it and it did get better, like 80% less shitty eventually until it went back to it's old ways. Will try def this mod and see what happens. Too bad you didn't put a link or the part name but I guess I can figure it out. Funny video noneless, keep it up.
Crazy that there's some sort of consensus that Sram shifting is bad haha! I thought it was like 50/50 but doesn't seem like it at least in these comments. Oh and about the parts nr, it may or may not have been part of my evil marketing scheme to not include it, so I can actually partake in some conversation with my viewers instead ;) Here's a comment iv'e posted on it, so you don't have to search by yourself: Iv'e been trying to find the part number from Sram, It could be: RD-SPP-A0 Google this: SRAM X01 Eagle B-Bolt and Limit Screw Kit Or SRAM B-Bolt/Limit Screw Kit XX1/X01 Eagle 52T depending on which site you're on. @@Frorideism haha yeah. I do love my friends that work at Sram but god does it suck at shifting compared. Not sure if it's just me but I have mentioned my issues to them but they keep telling me it's always all my fault, I just have to learn how to shift. I guess that means I have to learn to shift when it wants to shift and how it wants to shift... hahah Like back in the old days when cars didn't have a clutch and you had to learn to shift gears at the precise tempo of the motor!
@@aurisnow Dude honestly this might be a thing, Iv'e been on Sram for a looong time, and thinking about it i'm pretty sure that Iv'e adapted how I shift to not have it fuck up on the daily! I noted it more now that I swapped to instant engage hubs, shifting under load feels like slamming in the gears of a rally car, Hands down, I actually like that feeling, CLONK! 😆 Probably kills the cassette and chain in the long run though Maybe shimano shifts better under load, idk

I don't need the extended range of a 52 or even a 50 ..even a 46 for that matter ..unless i get a heavy bike or just wanna blow out my knees pedaling a insane cadence...shit- man- no is heavy and does not engage as well as sram. Btw thank to your video I know the difference between the gx bolt and the x01 And I could realize that the gx axs has the same as x01 with the sleeve and the red orings I could quickly save the holiday to a Norwegian rider in New Zealand. So thank you!
After some digging: I don't know dude! I did find this read: www.rotorburn.com/forums/index.php?threads/gx-eagle-shitty-shifting-solved.315442/ It's about someone who janked a piece of plastic in their bolt of their 11-speed GX and it made it work better. But scrolling down, you can see people were discussing this even back in 2019. So, it could work, but idk.
Oh no idea dude, maybe try and google if 11 speed NX has same mount as 12 speed, Since the 12 speed one should work with this, if they are the same it should work for 11 speed too? Not sure about the B-bolt adjustment plate though, that may be different, hmmm Honestly I would buy the kit and carefully open the package, sneaaaaky, try and mount and return it if it doesn't match haha

In the end I think they may have ordered it and tested, if you dig through the comments maybe you can ask them if it fitted. It's in here somewhere 😁 Otherwise I mean, carefully open the package, test if it works, otherwise return it maybe could be a thing?
@@Frorideism thanks brother, maybe I should first see if it is split or a whole bolt like on the 12 speed versions. Returning it will be a bit of a struggle and probably impossible for a number of reasons Anyways respect the time spent to reply to my comment. I wish you all the best and Happy new year!
Shimano for me is the best & easiest upgrade - the sram are nearly all long cage which make them much more prone to rock strikes - especially on 27.5 rear wheeled bikes. Shimano gs for the win.

Bro, I bought the kit and I was really excited to swap the lil pieces, but I couldn't get the fucking outside ring out. No fucking way!!! Could u give some advices? An alternative solution?
Dude that thing is a fucking doomsday device similar to the complexity of the enigma machine, You'll need to hire a genious with questionable social skills to break down its contents. .. The key however, is work one side at a time. And use the opening in the ring, like push a pick between the cut in the ring while you hold it still, then use another pick to lift that side up!
I used Shimano for years, always SLX or preferably XT but now have SRAM and I have to say - this is the best drivetrain I’ve had so far. When I say best, I mean in terms of longevity - let alone the cleaner shifting. My ‘crappy’ NX drivetrain has lasted me since I got my Whyte G180 3 years ago! I haven’t changed a single component of the drivetrain at all. Not the chain, not the jockey wheels, the chainring, the cassette etc. Let’s be clear here. I use my bike daily. I commute on it, I take it to the bike park, I go on 30-mile country rides… I do 50-80 miles a week on average.
I bet you tried muc-off lube. That shit is terrible for hard drying buildup. Anything it gets on, it hardens on like shit. There are many other lubes that will not do it, and work amazingly. Just say no to muc-off.
@@Frorideismyeah, once I used the wet, and dealt with that, I never tried the yellow one. I switched to finishline ceramic wet for my climate, works excellent. Have ol Pedro’s syn-lube for backup, always had decent results with it.
nice. @@celticsone_ yes. shifter determinate the amount of cable that the sram cassette needs. today's sram and shimano 12 speed system almost share the same cable pull ratio. rear mechs can be mixed, up until you don't mix shifters and cassattes. but since the deore deraliuer is so cheap and more solid than a sram, no question unless you're a fanboy.

This is so entertaining yet informative at the same time. Loved it!
Why thank you friend
XTR looks pretty lit as well so you have the aesthetic bonus-points there too
i started on Shimano, but back before i started building bikes i bought one with a top-of-the-line (at that time) X0 drivetrain and found it was nowhere near as smooth or durable as my XT-equipped bikes. i like SRAM's brakes' performance better than Shimano (use Shimano, anyway) but find their drivetrains to be lacking.
I've used both SRAM and Shimano drivetrains, and honestly, I've found the differences between them to be negligible. You can't go wrong with either one.
I also recommend upgrading to a xo1 shifter for how much nicer the shifting will feel.
This video was worth it as soon as you said "derailleurere" 😂 I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Everything installed as in the video. I didn't reinstall the spring washer under the B bolt piece though. Think this is the issue?

Oh well close, Swedish
Great video. Would this help with the horrible chain slap on the GX models? I “upgraded” to the GX AXS and it’s noisy from all the chain slap. My chain stays are guarded though I think the cage is just very flimsy. Would love to have your thoughts on this issue. Cheers!
Cheers!
Hmn I read somewhere that it'll fit the GX AXS too but can't remember where that was so can't promise it will fit.
However, if it does:
I feel that it definitely reduced some chain slap, since there's less movement in general,
Unfortunately it won't save the weak clutch on the Sram mech's 🤒
@@Frorideism thanks for the reply. I keep reading the clutch is garbage on the AXS. It’s not too bad when using the smaller cogs in chattery sections. I guess due to more tension on the chain and the retracted position of the mech. Thanks again. You got another sub here.

Time for the T-Type and immersive waxing.
Honestly 12 speed Deore is even better deal than SLX

Didn't know about it. Personally I'd run Shimano always, but didn't want to change my hub so I replaced my drive train a bit ago with GX. What i saw was the Industy got too big and sold out as Chain Reaction was going down hill after 2016 as it was a family business keeping track on small and needed items with much time and thought that was lost its personal touch. It started selling road bike stuff as it became part of Wiggle and was one and the same. It was my one and only go to for mountain bike but then was not having that same stock or at the same vaule for price so more and more i was going other places.@@Frorideism

Love you Sir Jaketh!
Bro, I bought the kit and I was really excited to swap the lil pieces, but I couldn't get the fucking outside ring out. No fucking way!!! Could u give some advices? An alternative solution?
Dude that thing is a fucking doomsday device similar to the complexity of the enigma machine,
You'll need to hire a genious with questionable social skills to break down its contents.
..
The key however, is work one side at a time.
And use the opening in the ring, like push a pick between the cut in the ring while you hold it still, then use another pick to lift that side up!
😂😂 👍💪👌
lol 3+ years on an NX without serious problems.. But this seems like a cheap upgrade 😎
WOAH WOAH NOW YOU NEED TO SELL YOUR FRAME AND YOUR SOUL BEFORE TRANSMISSION CAN BE ACQUIRED
IT'S ALREADY ON CRAIGSLIST AS WE SPEAK LET'S FKN GOOOO
Everyone is going to think you have an ebike 🧐

SX does NOT work.😂
May have gone easy on SX for legal - political, and emotional reasons
I bet you tried muc-off lube. That shit is terrible for hard drying buildup. Anything it gets on, it hardens on like shit. There are many other lubes that will not do it, and work amazingly. Just say no to muc-off.
Dude honestly I love Muc-Off's dry lube :O
Their wet lube is greasy-ass garbage however
@@Frorideismyeah, once I used the wet, and dealt with that, I never tried the yellow one. I switched to finishline ceramic wet for my climate, works excellent. Have ol Pedro’s syn-lube for backup, always had decent results with it.
Just buy shimano mate and dont mess with this crap
But but but.... 🥺
@@Frorideism i didnt want to hurt you mate but this sram toys are for kids 😕
@@JHESSA11 Well I did get it at the same spot I get my Beyblades 🤔
just do'n't buy shitty SRAM, they are waaay to big for MTB...
If you tide electric Shimano Linkglide 10 speed is all you need. Solid. durable. shifts under power. Dirt cheap. Thank me later :D
The best move is buy a Shimano-equipped bike in the first place.
Oooooh If I could turn back time!"

Went the other way. The difference is negligible but i got tired of replacing shimano clutches
nice. SX is garbage. no clutch? even today 90's cummuter bikes has...
and here comes the trick for SRAM shit. you got your bike with any kind of sram deraliuuereuueurueurererrrrr. good, use it until you smash it to a rock (except SX) and than you buy a sub 60$ GOD TIER shimano rd-m6100 for you sram system. works fine until you use sram shifter and sram cassette. and now you got a cheap, adjustable clutched rear mech.
welcome.
will this will work using a sram sx shifter and cassette? thx g
Works fine until you use sram shifter and sram cassette... ?
I was confused by that as well hence why I asked, but he replied. it's above @@sijmes
