Thank you Nicko for 40+ years of great music with Maiden. We all wish you health and a long happy retirement. Gonna miss your "aaiiyyyyy...!!". Thank you once again from all the boyz and girlzzz!!❤🎉
I'm 54. I remember seeing Nicko on the powerslave tour at the age of 14!! His unique style made Maiden what they were through the 80's! What a legend!!
Dam , the retirement of Nicko is very sad indeed . I guess he really needs to do this though . Best wishes to Nicko , he has done his duty as a drummer with Maiden , i salute you !
I am truly gutted. As a life long Maiden fan it hurts but I 100% understand the reasons for his decision. It can’t have been an easy decision for him to make. I was lucky enough to meet Nicko and speak with him a few weeks after losing my mum. They say never meet your heroes but Nicko was one of the rare exceptions to that rule. He spoke to me as a person, not a fan, not someone who’d recently lost his mum just a human being. I’ve seen him on stage with Maiden too many times and next tour will not be the same but at least I can treasure the memories of seeing him play with Maiden all over the UK, from my first ever gig until now Nicko is and always will be the best drummer in the metal Universe
Thank you for sharing your interaction with Nicko. He was always so wonderful with the fans whenever I saw the band on tour, and he always had time for them. Drumming is incredibly physical and hard on the body, so 42 years is an incredible achievement. Nicko gave his all behind the kit and was totally spent at the end of every concert. It's hard and courageous to move on so much respect to Nicko for making a completely understandable decision.
me to im crying here he was one in a million im shocked that he was replaced so soon. ive not even processed what has happened only like a few maiden songs as well not the biggest maiden fan but nicko was one of a kind he was someone very special guy one in a million massive part of maiden for so many years. His looks and personality and his skills and his loyal and dedicated and his galloping drums he was someone unique and really amazing. im gutted there will never be another nicko or another bruce dave adrian jan steve once you start replacing members of bands its never the same band i do think it could be the end of iron maiden soon in the next few years they might all retire and do orher things 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Thanks for commenting. I think the first few weeks of no longer being in the live band may be quite hard for Nicko. There may be a period of a kind of "grief" as he comes to terms with the end of this very long chapter. But this will clear space for him to start exciting new ventures and activities and, of course, spend more time with his family and friends ... and then a new fun and joy starts. :)
Sad to see Nicko retire but I’m sure he has gave it good thought and made the right decision for himself. With his recent health issues it might have made the decision an easier one to make. Regardless he will always be a legend and held in high regard by the maiden fans. Will this be the last tour for the band. Unsure, someone fresh behind the kit I’m sure will bring a new energy to the band. Let’s just enjoy every moment we still have the band around. Nicko, thank you 🙏
nicko had that feel to maiden with long hair his skill of drumming was second to none amazing guy im in shock and horror he has been replaced so soon i thought they would wait until after xmas for a new drummer. It was less then 24 hours when they said that sinon is now taking nicko drumming im gutted that has happened nicko was one of a kind and his personality and drumming he cant be replaced he was one of iron maiden band members for over 40 years and very hansom as well
Hi Lisa, I don't believe you are alone in feeling that. It's understandable for fans to feel that way and be given a chance to process that Nicko is leaving the band. However, I believe, due to Nicko's health challenges, that this has been in the pipeline for a while and the band probably felt that they wanted a seamless handover from Nicko to Simon. Nicko is a very special band member, but his health must come first and he has made a difficult but brave decision. Iron Maiden will move forwards in 2025 with Simon Dawson, but we will never forget Nicko.
Next up from the band : Iron Maiden Swan Song 50th Birthday Tour. There will be no next glorious chapter. Hopefully the last studio album and that's that. From now on Maiden train engine is down to 70 per cent. All in one day. No drummer can fix that hole. Simon fella can't fill Nicko's enormous shoes (or lack thereof). No drummer can. If I was Steve, I would cancel the 50th Tour. No matter what the cost. Irreplaceable. The only repleaceable member is Janick. And that's it. All the best to Nicko who pushed it as far as it could go. Up the Irons. Gonna miss your noise in the ether boys.
I do fear that you may be right, that this may well be the beginning of the end. A world without an active Iron Maiden in it is not one that I'm ever going to be ready for but time is the enemy of us all. I'm sure that Steve, being as driven as we all know him to be, would want to go on beyond the 50th anniversary tour, all things being equal, but I'm equally sure that he won't allow the band to become just a shadow via a slow drip of retirements, and maybe a 50th anniversary is as perfect a place as any to bring the curtain down. That said, I did fear that when I saw them on the "Legacy" tour, that it may have been my last time but then I saw them again last year and they were as good as they've ever been. So come Manchester next year, I shall take it all in and add those new memories to all the others...and then whatever happens, happens.

I agree Iain. Nicko was the engine behind Iron Maiden and helped create their intense sound.
I saw them at Aftershock festival in October and I'm glad I saw Nicko play with them then. Congrats on your retirement!
Good luck to the absolute legend 🙂
God Bless you Nicko,a joy to watch you and to meet you ,.Very Happy Retirement !

Once you've heard the "Listen with Nicko!" tracks on the 12" reissues, you're never quite the same again 🙃
All the best Nicko!
